The thing I loved the most in this book is the cliffhanger! It ended on such a strong note so thrilling yet so frustrating at the same time. The story became so intense and interesting towards the end that I couldn’t stop reading. OMG that cliffhanger i loved it 😍 but seriously, where’s the second part? 😭🥺
The story begins with Sumit, who lives in Pune and plans a trip with his 5-6 friends to his ancestral village, Konkan, where his grandfather lives. He always finds peace and comfort there compared to city life. As planned, they reach the village and spend some lovely time with his grandfather, enjoying the simple life away from the city hustle. Later, in the middle of the night, Sumit suddenly wakes up and starts walking toward an old door that had been locked for almost 50–60 years. As he opens it, he feels like he’s being controlled by some unknown force like someone else is making him do it. Seeing this, his grandfather gets angry, while Sumit stands there confused, unaware of the story behind that mysterious door. That’s when his grandfather, left with no choice, begins to tell him an old story a story about the cursed village of Gufasare, its dark past, and the terrifying Demon’s Den.
The story follows a group of friends who find themselves in the eerie village of Gufasare, where no one seems to be awake everyone appears to be in a deep, unbreakable sleep. On the walls, strange words are written: “Don’t sleep, don’t stop, save yourself.” As they arrive in the village, they are forced to uncover its secrets when one of their friends falls into a coma like state shortly after they first reach the village. The group tries their best to help their friend, and in the process, they uncover shocking truths about a parallel world, demons, and the village’s dark curse.
The plot becomes darker, spookier, and more gripping with every page. The parallel world element makes the story even more intriguing. I especially loved how beautifully the bond between Sumit and his grandfather was portrayed. This book is a perfect read for the spooky month of October! 🎃📖
This novella masterfully blends elements of dark thriller, suspense, and horror — pulling readers into a world where ancient secrets and eerie energies collide.
The story begins with Sumit’s visit to his grandfather’s house in Konkan, a place drenched in mystery and silence. The author beautifully sets the tone — an old village, a stubborn grandfather guarding secrets, and a closed door that hasn’t been opened in decades. What begins as a simple family visit slowly turns into a haunting journey of forbidden truths and supernatural forces.
When Sumit encounters the mysterious chest and faces his furious grandfather, the tension peaks. The revelation of the village of Gufasare and the Devil’s Den introduces chilling questions — Do parallel universes exist? Is black magic real?
The author keeps the suspense alive till the very end, skillfully balancing fear with curiosity. With its dark atmosphere, emotional depth, and thought-provoking themes, this novella isn’t just a horror story — it’s a psychological exploration of faith, fear, and the unseen.
A must-read for readers who love thrillers that make you question reality itself.
This book throws you right into a chilling world where black magic rules and even light feels unwelcome. It starts off with a grandfather's dark secrets finally unraveling, setting the stage for a spine-tingling ride.
A group of friends steps into the unknown, bound by a promise that no one gets left behind. Their courage in the face of fear is what really drives the story—it's not just about survival, it's about loyalty.
The atmosphere is haunting, with forgotten places, monstrous forces, and the constant question of who will make it out. But in the middle of all that darkness, their friendship shines bright.
If you're into supernatural suspense with a strong emotional core, this one's for you. It’s eerie, intense, and oddly heartwarming at the same time. 🖤
As long as life feels normal... you believe you are safe. But the moment the doors of darkness open — there is no way back.
The story follows a simple man, Sumit who visits his grandfather during summer holidays. But less he knew this holiday is going to be the biggest plot twist of his life. It's obvious that his grandfather is hiding something but wouldn't tell until one night a mysterious force drives sumit to the basement and then the mystery starts to unfold. The best thing about the book was grandfather's character. The way his character is so perfectly written makes the book more interesting. The author did a very good job here.
It's a short read but long enough to stay with you and grab your attention. It's a world of secrets, mystery, fear and spooky vibes. It's fast paced and the story setting is amazing. The bond between characters is beautiful and inspiring. The writing style is simple and elegant.
Each chapter will left you for wanting more. A perfect read for the spooky season. I was kind of going in a reading slump and this book saved me❤️
🥀What happens when doors that have been closed to the past suddenly crack open? Sumeet Shende's "Devil's Doom" is a spooky and evocative story that delves into the dark realm of black magic, unsaid legacies, and the strength of unbreakable friendship. The book immerses you in a universe where shadows are more than just gloomy; they are living, observing, and waiting from the first page.
🥀The narrative centers on a young man whose normal life starts to fall apart when his grandfather, a mysterious character, begins disclosing unsettling information derived from antiquated black magic. You observe the fear growing as long-buried secrets start to come to light, and the feeling of urgency is immediate & intense.
🥀The author masterfully creates a spooky contrast that heightens the suspense by contrasting the innocence of children with the burden of family secrets. This is unique because of its evocative world building. It nearly appears like a character in and of itself because of how vividly the setting a place where even light seems unwilling to enter is depicted.
🥀The author creates a desolate setting that is nevertheless teeming with secret life. In these eerie pages, readers who like deep, sensory heavy writing will be utterly engrossed (and perhaps a bit scared). But friendship is a ray of hope that shines through the gloom. The narrative presents a close knit group of friends who are unwavering in their devotion to one another in spite of the looming disaster. Their relationship is more than simply emotional; it's a lifeline, particularly as they go farther into unknown worlds where every shadow might be their final sight.
🥀The idea of "No one gets left behind" is expertly weaved throughout the narrative, serving as a reminder that love is frequently the source of courage rather than strength. The novel takes surprising turns as the plot develops. A new twist appears just when you believe you have it figured out. The grandfather's secrets are much more complex and dangerous than anyone could have predicted. The author never lets you relax by maintaining a tight plot and tense tension. There are encounters that raise the stakes in terrifying ways, and there are disclosures that leave you speechless.
🥀In addition to being hideous monsters, the demonic powers portrayed represent more profound anxieties, such as betrayal, desertion, and losing control. Because of this, the book has a profundity of emotion that isn't typically found in horror literature. Surviving the darkness within is just as important as surviving the demons outside.
🥀About the characters, they are presented in ways that don't always seem heroic but always feel genuine, they are brave, relatable, and unvarnished. The way that this book combines emotional storytelling with otherworldly terror is among its most captivating features. The purpose of the story is to linger, not only to frighten. The questions still stand after you've read the last page: What do we actually fear? And how far would we go to keep the people we care about safe?
🥀Readers who enjoy dark magic, haunted secrets, & friendships put to the test by fire will find this book to be an engrossing and chilling book. This is ideal for fans of "Stranger Things", but with a darker, more archaic perspective. In addition to being heartbreaking, heartwarming, and eerie, this novel will keep you up reading long into the night. Are you brave enough to go into the dark? Or, when the door creaks open, would you turn around? Discover it in this book. Strongly recommended for brave individuals only.
Book Review: Devil's Doom by Sumeet Shende
Devil's Doom from Sumeet Shende is a dark and gripping supernatural thriller that flawlessly combines elements of mystery, fantasy, and human emotion. Devil's Doom is exactly the kind of spooky, gripping tale that sinks its claws into you and refuses to let go. It masterfully builds a world thick with dark secrets and black magic. What starts as a simple vacation for Sumit and his friends at his grandfather’s place in Konkan quickly spirals out of control the second they open that forbidden old room.
The author totally nailed the atmosphere. What truly elevates this beyond a standard horror story is the heart beneath the scares. There's a powerful emphasis on friendship, trust, and the mantra of "no one gets left behind." And that cliffhanger at the end? Phenomenal. It absolutely guarantees you’ll be on the lookout for the sequel!
If you're in the market for a fast-paced, creepy read that blends genuine horror with strong emotion, adventure, and dark secrets, Devil's Doom is without a doubt a story you need to pick up.
I devoured Devil’s Doom in one sitting and I’m still trying to shake off the chill it left behind. What begins as a warm, nostalgic tale of summer holidays in the serene Konkan region soon spirals into a web of supernatural mysteries, and haunting legends.
The author beautifully paints the idyllic coastal village its beaches, coconut trees, and quiet charm. before slowly peeling back the darkness hidden beneath. The pacing is brilliant, each chapter deepens the suspense until you’re completely trapped in its eerie spell.
The story follows Sumit, who visits his grandfather’s house for the holidays. His grandfather, deeply rooted in tradition, refuses to leave the village and from the very start, it’s clear he carries an ancient burden. But one night, around 3:30 a.m., Sumit is drawn by an unseen force toward the forbidden basement, locked for fifty years. What he finds there an old chest, faded letters, and his grandfather’s furious interruption sets in motion a chain of terrifying revelations.
In the pooja room, his grandfather finally breaks his silence, swearing Sumit to secrecy before revealing the dark legend of Gufasare village and the ominous force known as Devil’s Doom. From that moment, the story dives deep into curses, faith, and a battle between the seen and the unseen.
By the time we reach the cursed village, the tension is palpable. Every character from steadfast Sadashiv to brave Avantika and mysterious Anisha Aunty ,adds a vital piece to this chilling puzzle.
The story begins with Sumit and his friends taking a vacation to Konkan, a beautiful village, to spend time with his grandfather and enjoy the serene beauty of rural life—an experience quite different from their usual city routine.
The author vividly describes the scenic locations, prompting the group to take numerous photos whenever they encounter a picturesque spot. On their way, they come across two girls stranded due to a vehicle breakdown and decide to help them.
Upon reaching the village, they are warmly welcomed by Sumit’s grandfather and the household staff. They are treated to a variety of local delicacies and spend some relaxing time soaking in the village atmosphere.
The plot takes a twist when Sumit enters a mysterious room that his grandfather had strictly forbidden him from accessing. This moment reminded me of the movie Chandramukhi, evoking a sense of stepping into a story from the distant past.
As Sumit’s grandfather begins to narrate the tale behind the room, the story truly hooked me. This novella presents a story within a story, introducing new characters, deep friendships, and a protagonist driven by a strong desire to help others—adding layers to the narrative.
It’s a dark suspense thriller with elements of horror and fantasy. Folklore always carries a unique charm, and this story captures that beautifully. I especially enjoyed the clever execution of the escape plan—it was a thrilling read.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving me excited for the next part. It’s a short read, but one that keeps you engaged till the very end.

Honestly, this book has outdone itself!! And I just do not mean only with it's characters but also with it's plot and settings. The whole story revolves around a group of friends who are on the way to enjoy vacation in one of their friend's home in a beautiful remote village.
But their vacation takes a wild turn when the protagonist SUMIT is attracted to room in his grandpa's house, which he was told to stay away!! There is some force which is pulling him towards it and this time he listens to it and goes inside and picks the secret which was hidden!!
His grandfather is mad at him but it doesn't stop him from telling the horrific, dangerous and gut- wrenching story which was real, which took place and which the grandfather wanted to buryy!! The story grandpa tells is dark, twisted and filled with suspense.
If you are someone, who loves dark, dimension flows, twisted and horror thrillers, then trust me this is the book that you need to read and have it on your shelf!!
The fact that I was travelling in a CAR, while reading this just enhanced my experience as a reader!! (you will know why the car experience made it more real once you read this book) As someone who loves thriller, this short book is just perfect and lemme tell you this book is less than 150 pages but good enough to keep you questioning everything.
ALSO ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGERRRR!!! AGHHH!!! WHYYYYYY?????
Devil’s Doom by Sumeet Shende is an engrossing supernatural thriller that unravels the dark secrets buried within a family’s past.Set in the quiet yet mysterious village of Guhagar, the novel follows Sumit, a young boy who visits his grandfather during the summer holidays. Everything seems peaceful and pleasant at first — a simple getaway filled with warmth and nostalgia. But the calm doesn’t last long. Drawn by an unseen force to a hidden room within the old house, Sumit opens a door to secrets far deeper and darker than he could ever imagine — secrets that have been waiting for generations to be uncovered.
I loved how the author slowly builds up the suspense. The writing makes you feel the tension in every scene, and just when you think you know what’s going to happen, something unexpected comes up. The story keeps you hooked right till the end, and it finishes on a cliffhanger that honestly left me wanting to know what happens next!
What stood out the most for me was the theme of friendship and loyalty. Sumit’s bond with his friends adds so much heart to the story — their courage and support for each other make you feel hopeful even in the darkest moments.
Overall, Devil’s Doom is an emotional, eerie, and beautifully written story that stays with you. It’s perfect for anyone who loves supernatural thrillers with mystery, strong friendships, and an ending that makes you crave the next part.
If darkness had a heartbeat, it would sound like this book.
Devil’s Doom is an intense blend of mystery, black magic, fear, and friendship, where every page feels like going into something ancient and forbidden. The story follows a group of friends go for a trip and the narrator find out their a haunting family secret tied to a grandfather’s past and a village cursed by darkness.
What begins as curiosity slowly turns into a chilling tale of sacrifice, courage, and loyalty. The atmosphere is rich with silences, half-whispered truths, and shadows that feel almost alive. What I loved most is how friendship glows like a fragile flame amidst all the terror — the more the darkness spreads, the stronger their bond becomes.
Sumeet Shende’s writing is simple yet powerful. He builds tension slowly — every twist catches you off guard, every revelation hits deep. It’s not just a horror story; it’s about what fear does to people, how trust can break and heal, and how even in the blackest night, hope can still survive. One last appeal to the author: please make a 2nd part of this book. The story feels incomplete — I want to know more, even Grandpa didn’t finish telling us everything yet!
✨ Final Thoughts: If you enjoy stories that mix supernatural chills with emotional depth, Devil’s Doom will leave you both haunted and moved. It’s dark, heartfelt, and beautifully unsettling, a tale where black magic spreads fear, but friendship ignites hope.
“Today is my last day because I have nothing to send inside the den. Now that demon will find me and kill me.”
'Devil's Doom' is a horror/supernatural thriller that sends the reader on a suspense ride as the wheels of the scenes spun in the story. A den, a beautiful village and trapped people, with no future in sight.
Sumit, is a CA in Pune who visited his grandpa in Konkan, a beautiful village with his friends with no or barely there connectivity to have some good time. But as the evening progressed, something strange happened and they found themselves sitting around the grandpa listening to his story of black magic, a den with sinister presence and people that needed saving. Sumit and his friends, bound by a promise of “no one gets left behind,” are drawn into a dangerous journey: uncovering the buried truth, facing forces that threaten the very fabric of their friendship and survival. The questions remain - Will fear be greater? Or will the strength of friendship prove mightier?
I enjoyed reading the story but a little more clarity on scenes and segregated chapters would have enhanced the reading experience. The suspense, though was awesome and the revelations here and there kept me hooked.
The book is a good find for supernatural thriller seekers with back story and black magic.

Recently, I read Devil's Doom that literally gave me goosebumps. I have always been interested in horror and spooky stories, so this book caught my attention the moment I saw its cover. The cover itself gave full Hindi horror movie vibes, and I decided to read it at night to make the mood even more thrilling. The story is not only about horror but also about black magic, which made it more interesting. I have watched many movies based on black magic, but reading it in a story form felt completely new and exciting for me. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. The story keeps revealing secrets one after another. But it is not just about black magic, it is also about friendship, courage, and the strength to fight evil. Even with so much fear and darkness, Sadashiv and his friends tried to save people from the evil force. The best part for me was when Avantika tells Sadashiv the full story of the demon’s den village and how she escaped from the trap of black magic. The combination of black magic and demons made the story even more exciting. The author has beautifully connected the past and present, making it easy for readers to follow and stay connected to the story.
"Devil’s Doom" by Sumeet Shende is a gripping supernatural thriller that delves deep into the haunting legacy of generational curses, black magic, and buried family secrets. Set in the mysterious village of Guhagar, the story follows Sumit, who visits his grandfather during the summer holidays. What begins as a simple family visit soon turns into a chilling descent into darkness when Sumit discovers a locked room and an old chest that hides horrifying truths from his family’s past.
Shende masterfully blends supernatural horror with emotional depth, crafting a story where friendship and loyalty stand as beacons against evil. The bond between Sumit and his friends is the heart of the novel - their courage and promise to never abandon one another brings warmth to the story. I really loved it so much.
