Moira and Maureen O’Mara have left their home at O'Mara's Irish Guesthouse overlooking St Stephen's Green. They're off to spend quality time away together, but they aren’t on your usual mother-daughter trip. Oh no, Moira and her mammy have just arrived in Vietnam!
It’s Maureen’s dream to sail on a Junk (who knew?), and as for Moira, she’s come along for the ride under duress. Maureen feels her youngest daughter's floundering, and this trip might just be the making of her.
Join them on an unforgettable adventure as they travel on the hop-on-hop-off bus from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi.
Sally-Ann, who has travelled from Australia, has very different reasons for being in Vietnam. She and her late husband served there during the war, but what’s brought her back to a country she vowed she’d never return to?
By the time the bus pulls into Hanoi’s Giap Bat bus station, these three women's lives will be forever changed.
Michelle Vernal is a bestselling author of warm, witty, and uplifting Irish fiction. Born in England to parents from Liverpool – often called “Little Ireland” – she grew up on her mum’s tales of Iocal families, music, and humour. Later, she lived, worked, got engaged, and travelled extensively in Ireland, experiences that inspire her much-loved novels, including the hilarious Guesthouse on the Green series. Her stories, filled with heart, humour, and unforgettable characters, have earned her a loyal readership worldwide.
What Goes on Tour: Guesthouse on the Green: The Guesthouse on the Green Book 3 is by Michelle Vernal. This series is about an Irish family who own a Guesthouse in Dublin. When Maureen (the mother) decided to retire and move, Aisling (one sister) decided to take over and run the guesthouse. Moira decided to help her while she also worked. The other siblings wanted nothing to do with the place. Maureen is definitely a character. She talks to anyone who will listen and even to those who don’t want to listen. She gets herself into so many embarrassing (to her children) situations. She keeps busy with her groups and friends. She and her friend Rosemary decided to travel to Vietnam. Her children thought she was completely crazy. However, she persisted; but when Rosemary backed out, she was going anyway. Her daughter, Moira, decided to go with her since she had just broken up with her boyfriend and who had vacation time at work. After all, someone had to go with Mammy to keep her in line. Off to Vietnam they went. They were not on a tour; but were going to find their own way across the country, stopping wherever they wanted and going where they wanted. Maureen had her own itinerary in mind which they somewhat followed. As these two Irish women head across Vietnam, the fun begins. The things they get into, the things they see and do are amazing. Michelle Vernal manages to describe the places in Vietnam in such as way that you seem to be with them on the busses, taxis, and bicycles that they use. They meet many interesting people and visit unique and wonderful places as they cross the country. It is an adventure to travel with them. The book is wonderful and keeps you reading. It is hard to put down; but easy to get back into it. I just wonder what the family is going to get into next.
I am enjoying this series - trying not to buy all of them but I already read the next one, "Rosi's Regrets" and have "Christmas at O'Mara's" started from the segment at the back of the book. This was a different book as it took place in Vietnam. Moira and her Mammy go on a trip Mammy planned with a friend who had to have surgery and couldn't go. Moira is recovering from a misguided nascent love affair with a married co-worker and an alcohol problem. Mammy insists she accompany her to her bucket list trip to Vietnam. It was like a travelogue and informative. The trip was better than Moira envisioned, until the end when Mammy fell and broke her ankle hiking in the boonies. Moira is my least favorite O'Mara but I saw her gain maturity in this book. On to the next!
This book was the most interesting of the 3 books it actually surprised me as I thought it might might move slowly I was afraid mother and daughter might spend their trip fighting. Clearly it was time for this mom to step in at a time when her daughter’s life was heading downhill. I enjoyed their day to day experiences as they traveled this foreign country, for sure you did your research of and the area the exotic food they were exposed to. It was exciting to see their personal relationship improve, it could have continued to be stressed., a good trad,
I got this as a free book on kindle and really enjoyed it,I realised it was third book in a series but was about one of the characters. I have now read first two, this was the better one,I laughed and cried in equal measure. I’m lucky enough to have a sister in Australia and travel over a lot to see her and husband. We go on wee breaks when I go over and the mammies relationship with daughter moira, reminds me of me and my sisters younger days, Thought provoking and full of great characters,I’ll read more from this author. Highly recommend
Fun. Not what I expected, which was a romance. This was a story about a mother and daughter getting to know themselves and each other better. If I were someone who dreams of visiting Vietnam, this would probably have made me long to go immediately - lots of detailed descriptions of the cities and scenery. I doubt you'd have problems with reading this as a standalone, but it is the third in an enjoyable series. It reminds me of the Marian Keyes family books.
I have to admit this story kept me smiling the whole way throughout. Even more eye opening was the fact that a trip like this could have gone the exact same way had I been traveling with my own Mother. Very kind and loving read, great message regarding Mother & Daughter relation!
This is the 3rd book in The Guesthouse on the green.
It was enjoyable and it journaled the travels of Mammy and one of her daughters in Vietnam. It highlighted their relationship and mended some bridges that had occured from the death of the father. It was good, but I didnt enjoy it as much as the first two. So on to the 4th.
I laughed and laughed and then I cried as well. Such a wonderful , heart warming story. I absolutely love this series. Oh, to have had the opportunity to spend a trip like that with my Mom. Despite all their peculiarities, this family is a joy. And, the entertainment factor is there on every page. They are a hoot!
Enjoyable book exploring the relationship between mother and daughter who are both struggling after the death of their husband/father. It made me laugh outlined at times , but it also made me think . Well written.
I haven't laughed so hard over a book in years. Loved the series so far and can't wait to read the next book. The writing kept you wanting the books to last and not end. Will look up this author for other books to read hopefully. This one was riot!!!.
Once again I wasn’t disappointed with What Goes On Tour it was like putting on your favourite slippers familiar and oh so comfortable. Having read all three books from The Guesthouse on the Green I feel I know each of the characters like they’re old friends.
Charming novel of a mother and daughter who travel from Ireland for a month long trip to Viet Nam. Along the the way, we experience, laughter, giggles, and and a closer relationship.
This book and the trip Moria and Maureen have taken is something we should all be able to experience..finally getting to know and understand another person is a great gift! You will love every minute of this book!
The characters ' personalities continue to fascinate the reader. They play off of each other in surprising ways. Another well written book which makes one anxious to read the next in the series.
Maureen and Moira O'Mara travel through Vietnam together. Some serious moments but otherwise many laugh out loud moments between the two. As well as dealing with grief and understanding how to cope with life and move forward.
This is book 3 in this enjoyable series. In this instalment, Mammy and Moira head off to Vietnam for a mother/daughter holiday. Moira is not looking forward to the trip. They meet a new friend along the way, and the book details the highs and lows of the trip. Very enjoyable.
Love this series, wonderfully written! I am a fan!
Great characters, can not wait to start the next book! The adventures are fun, I never thought I would want to go to Vietnam, but it was made appealing!
Wow I feel as though I've just visited Vietnam , Mammy and Moira' journey through Vietnam meeting Sally made it feel so real . I eagerly await the next instalment
I absolutely love these books. I sat there smiling and I bet people wondered what I was smiling at. It was Maureen (Mammy). What a character. I love her and cant wait to start the next episode!!!
Thank you Michelle for bringing me such entertainment.
