Frank Carvale is arrogant, ambitious, and willing to do anything it takes to get ahead. He's clever, too, but maybe not as clever as he thinks. A chance meeting with a magnate in Hong Kong could either be the big break he needs—or the biggest mistake of his life. A financial thriller set at the heart of the international economic crisis.
I completed the entire series from 1-5. Its the story of the subprime crisis retold. It reads more like a novel than a graphic novel. Swank illustrations and characters etched to remain in your memory for a long time.
Its the usual story of lust, greed, money, millionaires and of course dictators in poor countries living off the riches of the land by selling it short to the richer countries.
Really enjoyed the flow and the details to the stories apart from wonderful visual effects - internationally told. Highly recommended. I will assure that for those who are interested this is unputdownable.
The story wasn't so bad but it's not my cup of tea. The story tended to just dump so much information all at once and at most times in a very vague way which left me so confused as to what's happening. A few other things that I hated is that it could be so vulgar and have so much sexual content just to show off that the characters could do whatever they want just because they got money.
Overall, it was interesting to see how money moved fast from place to place, this wasn't for me so I don't have any intentions to continue.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with the digital copy for an honest review.
2.5/5 not much to say about this one. i thought this would be a cool and interesting read but most of the time i was lost with all of the financial jargon. and didn’t much care for it. i suppose the target audience for this wasn’t me, maybe people who like wall street jargon would enjoy it better. the illustration was pretty good though!
It's interesting I guess. Movies have done this type of financial crisis type thing so much better while making it easier to follow. You probably need to actually work on Wall Street to follow some of this.
Classic Belgian-inspired book with too much explanation of everything, completely functional artwork but intriguing story even though character-development is weak.
Graphics and art were good - really good in fact. It's mostly the only positive I can find though - the story feels familiar and one that I've seen so many times. I'm not sure there are any strong female characters, and there's a couple of cliche's that really didn't sit well with me. I thank the publisher for the chance to read the book, but it wasn't a book I could really enjoy.
I received this book in return for an honest review. Thanks to Netgalley for linking me up with the publisher!
I don't give a crap about finance, so I was pretty lost through this one, though I did get most of what was important I guess. I just won't be looking to read the second part with any amount of excitement because it's just a subject that doesn't interest me. But if you are a fan of movies like "Wallstreet" then this may be for you. It's all about the harshness of the financial markets, and what massive assholes stock traders are.
Excellente BD avec une intrigue passionnante qui explique simplement la crise des subprimes. Un vrai thriller dans le monde de la finance oú on s’attache aux personnages et on apprend le fonctionnement complexe de Wall Street.
