isn’t it a bit weird to anyone else that the characters just keep hanging out with the janitor?? THEY think he’s actually the janitor and NO ONE is questioning why he’s always with them?
this was better than the last one, but in all honesty, i think it’s just the plot that’s a bit wack. ↓↓
so this rlly popular singer falls down the stairs and dies. but she makes a deal with the grim reaper to become his wife in exchange for her to live again, BUT she doesn’t remember that. So the grim reaper comes up from the under world to protect Sophie because she’s basically only a soul, and the god of the underworld wants sophie’s soul bc well idk he needs it. OK SO he protects her bc the god of the underworld (idk his name) is doing everything to kill her right? but then we just keep talking about college and romance and stuff like that.. but where's the part where she's actually dead?? there is nothing of her being dead. instead we have a overly quirky FMC and a weird love triangle.
anywho, thank you so much NetGalley, Violet Karim and the publisher: Wattpad WEBTOON book group, for letting me read an early galley of this book! even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped, I still had a good time and am very grateful!
.... when's the third one coming out...? 💔😞 BC THE WAY THIS ENDED?? (I might be addicted)
I am REALLY enjoying this Webtoon!!! It took a turn in the mystery aspect, which I had an inkling that it might. Ever since Sophie died, I’ve wondered who it was that pushed her down the stairs. My top two thoughts were her best friend and possible rival, Hanna, and her aunt. The second one would be really devastating, because she’s her manager and guardian. So that would be the ultimate betrayal.
While we still don’t know who did the pushing, we finally found out how two-faced her aunt is. I’ve been feeling iffy about her the entire time, but I just need to know why now.
Also, the story has started to take on a final destination type arc. Because she escaped death, the world is trying to set things right by making her a target. So it’s like everything is out to off her.
I will be continuing this via WebToons, just so I know what comes next!!!!!
Death of a Pop Star, Volume 2, continues where the first volume left off, with Sophie falling out a window and dealing with the confusion and heartache of her aunt lying to her.
Like the previous book, volume 2 takes its time with the plot, allowing for more character-driven moments and subplots to shine through while still adding higher stakes.
It also gives us a lot of questions, such as: What is Hanna’s perspective on her friendship with Sophie? How much does Hanna know? What does Sophie’s aunt have to gain by doing the things she does? Also, what will Sophie do after that cliffhanger?
It’s a fun read, and it’s exciting to see the supernatural elements of the story coming into play more. I also appreciated that Eli and Sophie had a few bonding moments this volume. While I don’t find their relationship particularly swoony (so far), I enjoy watching them interact. Additionally, they’re the heart of the story, so the more time with them, the better. It raises the emotional stakes the more they bond.
Thank you to Netgalley for the Advanced Reader Copy. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series so far, and I hope to continue reading more of it.
A popstar meets final destination in this webtoon adventure. Sophie is a young girl in college taking a break from her singing and acting career. She has a few friends that make up her circle. Grim reaper, a reaper, and a girl named Lina. Sophie finds herself in a friend triangle due to those who hate her, but share mutual friends they dont want Sophie to hang out with. Jealousy comes from a couple characters which lead to unfortunate communication. Sophie has been avoiding one accident after another when her reaper friend keeps saving her. Is it merely coincidence Sophie keeps finding trouble or is trouble finding her? Sophie's home life isnt what it seems. She lives with her aunt and feels she is being lied too and betrayed. Even if they make up, is it enough or is it just to cover up for more lies? This vol. was interesting and quite simple. I want to see where the characters end up after that cliffhanger of an ending. Will Sophie get her life back? Or will she find a new life she can trust?
Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | WEBTOON Unscrolled for the digital ARC for review.
I really enjoyed this second installment. I think that it was a lot better than the first volume in terms of plot development and relationships arcs. The stakes have also really risen since the first volume. I like what the author is doing with the characters and how much closer they got in this volume. I am excited to read further as it seems Sophie will finally find out about her true fate and the reality surrounding the appearance of Eli and Julien. I also love the romance aspect to this and am really hoping that she ends up with Eli!
Definitely a cute read that I think will just improve more and more with volumes to come. I recommend this if you enjoy graphics with cute art that are character focused, but with an interesting plot to boot.
0 stars romance - there was a romance but nothing explicit 0 stars language - there was maybe 1 cuss word 10+ because the grim reaper is a main part and that could be confusing for some readers
Thank you so much Girl’s Life for a copy of this book! This review is my own facts and opinions.
☆⛤♥⭑premise⭑♥⛤☆ When I first got this book, I was kind of confused about everything and then I realized it was a webtoon and I could catch up on all the episodes there! Once I read the episodes, it all made more sense (duh) and I was super excited to read it! The premise of the whole webtoon is that a recently debuted idol, Sophie Lim, falls down the stairs and dies. When she comes face to face with the Grim Reaper, she begs for life (wouldn’t we all) and it is granted to her. . . with a cost (but I don’t want to spoil it). This second book picks up with Sophie having more and more near death experiences and her friends are trying to figure out what’s happening.
☆⛤♥⭑thoughts⭑♥⛤☆ I really enjoyed this book! The art was amazing and the story was intriguing and not something I have heard of before! I loved all the characters and it had some twists and was a page-turner, and I don’t say that often about graphic novels!
☆⛤♥⭑ending⭑♥⛤☆ CLIFFHANGER is all I can say. Absolute cliffhanger, and I am so excited to read more episodes on the WebToon! Violet Karim, you got me hooked! I am really glad I was sent this book and discovered this story and this world!
☆⛤♥⭑sophie⭑♥⛤☆ I absolutely loved Sophie as a character. She was interesting, funny, clumsy (I felt her there) and a little socially awkward, despite being an idol. I really cared about her as a character and wanted to see what happened to her next.
☆⛤♥⭑final thoughts⭑♥⛤☆ As I write this review, I finished the book last night, and I am still thinking about the ending! I have many other books on my TBR pile but this one might take priority because I want to know what happens next!! This book might have gotten me into the whole WebToon world as well, because who knows what else I could find on there! In short, if you like graphic novels, pop artists, books where the characters are in college, or strong female characters, you will love this book!
The second volume continues where the first left. Sophie’s life in college is complicated, with everyone disliking her and mean girls trying to separate her from the only friends she’s managed to make. They’re successful too. And to her horror, she learns that her aunt who is supposed to be on her side, is working against her too. Eli is the only person supporting her, and she manages to upset even him.
But Sophie should be dead, and the unverse is working on making sure she turns that way. Both Eli and Julien have failed—or not even tried—to collect her soul. So it’s time for the daddy to step in. The volume ends with that cliffhanger.
This wasn’t quite as good as the first volume. It was a bit jumpy, on top of which the review copy was missing several pages, which cut one of the chapters annoyingly. Even with the cliffhanger, I’m not sure I’ll want to continue.
I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
We pick up with Sophie as she works her was through college, deals with friendship and relationship issues, and works towards being an idol again.
I really enjoyed this volume. Sophie has started to gain more confidence, standing up for herself a little more. The ending was rough and hurts my heart a little, but I also can't wait for the third one.
Meanwhile, the boys are dealing with their shit, Eli is jealous of Julien (check this) and the fact Sophie liked him, Julien is still avoiding reaping her soul, and with accident after accident happening to Sophie, its getting harder and harder to do.
After coming back to life, everything seems to be out to kill her. But what hurts the most is discovering that her aunt has been lying to her. Even though her aunt claims it was “for her own good,” things only get worse—especially after she writes something important and her aunt steals it. I really enjoy this series and can’t wait to see what happens next. I just hope she eventually gets the happy ending she deserves.
I liked the overall idea and the drama kept it interesting, but I had a hard time fully getting into it. The story felt a little all over the place at times, and I didn’t always feel connected to the characters.
Some parts moved really fast while others dragged, so the pacing felt a bit uneven.
I still enjoyed it overall and would keep reading the series, it just didn’t fully pull me in the way I wanted it to.
This volume was so good that cliffhanger that ending all of it was just so evil. I am obsessed with this story and I cannot wait for the next value and I truly hope we’ll get an update on the movie eventually.
I can’t wait for these relationships to develop and come to an actual relationship statues lol.
This was such a quick and cute story! I’m so excited to get my hands on the next volume! I had a sneaky suspicion about Sophie’s aunt and I was so right about it. I really do hope Sophie and Eli end up together but we have to wait and see what happens. I still stand by what I said before WEBTOON has some of the best graphic novels.
This graphic novel is based on the webtoon series Death of a Pop Star . This piece of the story focuses on friendship and secrets. It’s a college romance and fantasy saga filled with confusion, confessions, and realizations.
A HUGE thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the eARC! All opinions are my own.
Our FMC, Sophie, has gone THROUGH IT this volume. Having to deal with everything around you crashing down from blackmail, to betrayal, to even coming face to face with death itself on multiple occasions is a lot for one girl to handle. The artwork was gorgeous as usual, and the plot was fast paced and exciting. And THAT CLIFFHANGER!!! I can’t wait to see where this goes. I just hope our girl gets a happy ending.
