A heart-pounding story that pulls you in. Valda is a true heroine. Her character feels so real, you can feel her commitment and desire to avenge her clan and get rid of the cruel Jarl. Her character is well-rounded and relatable. It's hard not to fall in love with Iskyr, a young dragon who defends what's his and fights against cruelty to others. His sadness and strength when his mother dies, along with his courage to trust Valda, a stranger and a human, are inspiring.

Valda has been exiled from her home and is considered an oathbreaker by most of the others in her land. After 10 years as an exile, a bounty is placed on her head to be returned to her home. She is captured and returned, and finds her clan and father a shadow of their former self. She is told if she captures a dragon and turns it over to the Jarl, she and her clan will be spared.

Where are the last wild dragons? To control a dragon means to have a tool of war that you could use to achieve any ends. Valda admires the dragons, but the conflict in her clan and between clans is too much to pay they much attention.

She is determined to achieve freedom for her clan, but her skills are desired by those who would prefer she work for them. Pressed into a service she does not want in a brutal land she hopes for freedom. In a strange twist of circumstances, the hostile land is native to her. She is comfortable there.

To restore a dragon is more than she could hope for. To talk to one - that is beyond belief.

Best book I have read in quite a long time.

Wow! I've had this series on my kindle for a long time but finally got around to reading it this week. I am so glad I did. It's the best book I've read in a very long time.
Valda and Iskar are such beautifully written characters and I am and always will be a pushover for a dragon story .

Outstanding Hunt

A strong female tracker, full of anger but talented with animal knowledge and weapons use, learns about herself as she's forced to track a wild dragon. She's a little over the top with attitude, but wouldn't be able to persevere without it. Fast read and very recommended.

A cross between 'How to train your dragon', and David Gemmell's 'Legend'. Gritty, strong female main character. Excellent first book in a YA fantasy series, non-stop action, would recommend. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Very slow to get into

Book one I struggled to get into this,had to come back to it at a later date, not sure why, it got better somewhere that when it ended I was thinking of book two.

Read the first 4 books in the series ,this week (yea for holidays) without getting back to review no 1

If Dragons and high adventure is your thing - this is a must read series.
Great story line and characters - sadly the next book is 4 months away :(
