I read this as it seemed like a sweet friends + coworkers to lovers bl manga with gorgeous art but it turned out to be unexpectedly emotional too, made me cry twice. Kinda opposites with Quiet x Sunshine. It's only 6 chapter 😅. I read it easily in 1hr. It was a close 5/5 but I'll give it 9/10 as author forgot bisexuals exist. Like wtf.
Kou is strict with his accounting work, but he's quite thoughtful & caring. He's gay & out of closet which I love to see in a manga.
Eito works in sales, he's friendly, wears his heart on sleeve & gives golden retriever vibes.
They felt like frenemies but E just loves to tease K 😆. With flashbacks, we got to see the depth of their friendship (but not it's start). The longing was hard with these 2. Omg, E even changed hairstyles to be K's type!! Like damn, down bad 🤭.

You know, the tropes where the gay guy falls for his straight bestie? Here's the (not so) straight bestie fell for his gay friend. But they're idiots (it's mutual!!) & they're worried/scared. It gave slowburn but angst happens as my baby K is traumatized by an ex & I cried when they cried, but they finally freaking communicate FULLY (as they do talk well) & it's GREAT.
I really like there's a gay side character & all the office fellas seem fun. Consent was a big theme & I'm glad even the miscommunication was about a legit thing to be worried about. The spice is hot, there's thigh fucking wooop. I'm glad K didn't go all the way with newbie E lol, but I did want a bonus about it NGL.
Bi-awakening is a such a widespread trope in books, I just hate so much that bisexuals are so rare in mangas. Like, it's obvi K was E's bi-awakening & it's lovely how E says he's not-straight & he's exploring himself now with K. But K having worried he's "not gay", I get it as K was burned before. But straight & gay isn't the only option dude, what about the whole spectrum?
Sigh, that sucks as aside from this, this manga is good. I wish the authors will break the binary thinking of gay/straight.

Short and sweet but so freaking cute. I love a good coworkers to friends to lovers. It had the perfect amount of spice and sweetness. My only note is that everyone seems to forget bi people exist.

Loved this one. It hit every mark for me.
We begin in the middle of the story, with Kanda and Ueno already close friends, although they don't seem like it at work. Ueno, a standoffish, by-the-book accountant who's good at his job and stern with others, has been regularly lecturing Kanda about silly mistakes he's been making on his expense reports. While some of their coworkers assume this means they don't get along - more specifically, that Ueno dislikes Kanda - one slightly more observant one says he thinks Kanda's doing it intentionally to get under Ueno's skin. After all, Kanda's the top salesman, absolutely meticulous in his work, so it seems unlikely that he'd mess up that often when it comes to the accounting side of things.
He's right...kind of. Kanda's just doing it so he gets to see Ueno more often, and while it irritates Ueno to have to harass him on top of all his other work, it's not like he exactly minds hanging around his best friend at work.
After work, Kanda spends a solid portion of his week at Ueno's apartment. It started out as a one time favor - sure, you can crash at my place today - but Kanda wormed his way into hanging out there all the time, even using his spare key to get there first and shower before Ueno's even home. Kanda's carelessness - like dripping water all over the floors and coming out of the shower naked - annoys him substantially more than the expense reports, because as he keeps reminding Kanda, he's gay, so it's not exactly like two straight bros hanging out.
Not that it's a big deal for their relationship. We get a few flashbacks to their early days at work, when Ueno was still in the sales department, misunderstood and isolated from most of the others because he's simply not that good at socializing. As someone with an immense natural talent for salesmanship, Kanda is genuinely interested in other people, and quickly develops a fascination with getting to know Ueno - who's quiet but kind and incredibly interesting. Ueno is baffled by it at first - why does Kanda ask him so many pointless questions about himself? Is he on a quiz show? But once he realizes Kanda genuinely wants to know more about him, he relaxes into what becomes a wonderful friendship.
Fairly early into it, Ueno tells Kanda he's gay, just in case that's going to put a damper on anything, but Kanda blinks in surprise then says that's cool, why would he mind. Although he does kind of mind that Ueno immediately tells him it's not like it'll ever be an issue with the two of them, since Kanda's not his type, so nothing would ever happen.
Now, in the present day, they're both being pretty dishonest with each other. Kanda's always had that exchange in the back of his mind, wondering why it is Ueno doesn't seem him as a viable romantic prospect - don't you fall in love with people you spend a lot of time around?? - and even, consciously or not, grows his hair out and starts acting more chipper and ditzy, like the kind of guys he's discovered Ueno does seem to be attracted to.
The problem is, Ueno's been attracted to him for a while. Because, in fact, sometimes you do fall in love with someone you spend a lot of time around, because that only makes sense...they're such immensely good friends, and so comfortable around each other, that it doesn't take much effort to cross those last divides. Except Ueno can't, and he's consistently fighting himself to not see Kanda that way.
After all, he's gone through this before with a straight best friend who said Ueno meant so much to him, he'd like to "try it out" and "see what happens"...and then told Ueno that not only did he confirm he's very much straight, he's become uncomfortable with their friendship, too, because he's experienced too much of relationship-gay-Ueno rather than just great-listening-ear-buddy-Ueno.
So Ueno's worst nightmare is that this will happen with Kanda, too. It'd be nice to date him and all, but it's far more important to keep Kanda's friendship.
Which makes it so much more devastating when Kanda does make a move, and Ueno tries to explain he wants to stay friends, and he loses that, too, without even having the momentary joy of a relationship...
Their dynamic is just so good. Both the friendship and the attraction is palpable, and that excitement of fear of trying for something more. Neither of them is wrong in the slightest - although Kanda is right that he pushed things too hard, too fast, and put Ueno in a situation where he ultimately thought Ueno was telling him he'd felt like he couldn't say no. (That wasn't really the issue, but they didn't sit down and have a full heart-to-heart about queerness and trauma, so the misunderstandings are reasonable.)

Je n'ai pas fait exprès, mais me voilà à lire coup sur coup deux histoires se déroulant dans le monde du travail avec des héros où l'un des gays et l'autre hétéro mais se découvrant des sentiments. Embrasse-moi en premier en fait une honnête proposition mais peut-être un peu moins fouillée que Comme dans un shojo.
C'était ici aussi ma première lecture de cette mangaka, mais en même temps, c'est le premier titre de Yamayade chez nous. Elle y raconte la relation de deux collègues de travail ayant appris à devenir amis au fil des années mais où l'un deux, celui qui est censé être hétéro, aimerait voir leur relation évoluer vers autre chose. Comment faire le premier pas ? Et ensuite ?
Dans une narration et un style assez classique, j'ai aimé suivre le cadre de cette histoire. Cela m'a plu qu'on ait à faire avec des adultes qui travaillent dans la même entreprise. L'autrice a vraiment su développer adroitement ce contexte, décrivant leur quotidien, montrant l'évolution des carrières de chacun, traitant aussi des soirées entre collègues ou des rumeurs qui peuvent courir. C'est bien pensé. Cela donne une bonne assise à l'histoire.
Elle ne parachute pas ainsi la romance qui va se nouer entre Ueno et Kanda, le premier étant un comptable respecté dans l'entreprise mais un ancien vendeur, ce que tout le monde a oublié, sauf son ancien camarade Kanda, désormais devenu son ami, mais qui aime le faire vriller au travail pour se faire remarquer, ce qui fait que tout le monde les croit en froid, alors que pas du tout. Elle développe ainsi un petit twist amusant d'entrée avec cette opposition vie privée - vie pro, qui n'a rien à voir, pour une fois, avec la sexualité de chacun, Ueno n'ayant pas fait un secret de son homosexualité, ce qui est rafraîchissant.
Non, les enjeux sont ailleurs. Ils sont dans la bascule entre une relation d'amitié et une relation amoureuse. Ueno a déjà été échaudée par une précédente relation où un ami hétéro a cru pouvoir devenir un couple avec lui mais s'est finalement rendu compte que ce n'était pas possible, ce qui l'a blessé. Il ne veut pas revivre cela avec Kanda avec qui il s'entend très bien. Mais quand celui-ci passe à l'attaque et lui avoue enfin ses sentiments, c'est dur de résister et de ne pas espérer.
L'autrice nous embarque ainsi dans le trope de l'hétéro qui se découvre gay. Je ne me prononcerai pas sur le réalisme de la chose ou la part de fantasme dans ce type d'histoire... Je me contenterais de dire que j'ai apprécié ici la façon dont cela fut raconté. J'ai aimé suivre Kanda dans ses questionnements qui l'ont rapproché au passage d'un autre collègue gay qui le conseille avec tendresse et humour. J'ai aimé les échanges entre les personnages, la mise en avant de leurs craintes mais aussi de leurs aspirations. J'y ai cru. J'ai trouvé cela sensible. Cela m'a touchée. Je suis juste frustrée, comme dans bien des oneshots boys love, que cela s'arrête quand tout commence pour eux. Ne peut-on jamais avoir 1-2 chapitres sur les premiers pas de leur couple ?

Alerte coup de coeur. Vraiment.
On est sur une romance de bureau entre deux collègues que tout oppose en apparence : Ueno, comptable strict et redouté, et Kanda, commercial charismatique promis à un bel avenir.
Pourtant, en dehors du travail, ils partagent une amitié secrète que personne ne soupçonne.
Ueno est gay et l'a toujours assumé. Kanda, lui, se pensait hétéro… jusqu'à ce que ses sentiments évoluent. Et c'est là que l'histoire devient magnifique. Ueno, marqué par son passé, se protège. Il refuse d'envisager quoi que ce soit avec Kanda, persuadé que cela ne pourrait que mal finir. Cette peur de souffrir rend son personnage incroyablement touchant. Il est dur en façade, mais profondément vulnérable.
Ce que j'ai adoré, c'est la douceur du récit. Tout repose sur les émotions, les regards, les silences, les non-dits. Les introspections sont poignantes, les dialogues sonnent juste. On ressent chaque hésitation, chaque battement de coeur, chaque faille.
Graphiquement, c'est superbe. Les personnages sont beaux dans leur vulnérabilité. le trait met en lumière leurs émotions avec beaucoup de finesse. Quant aux scènes intimes, elles sont soft, parfaitement dosées, et arrivent au bon moment.
Même si c'est un one-shot qui se suffit à lui-même, j'aurais volontiers passé plus de temps avec eux tant je me suis attachée à Ueno et Kanda.

Atenció al titolet no oficial en anglès que ja et dona totes les pistes: "You should be the one to come kiss me. They don't realise it's mutual" xD Doncs això, dos companys de feina, un dels quals és gai a l'armari, però sí que li explica al seu company pèl-roig, amb qui es mostra molt distant a l'oficina per por que es pensin que l'altre també és gai. Mentrestant el pèl-roig, unpopular as de les vendes, "es pica" perquè el gai li ha dit que no és el seu tipus i li fa ràbia que només siguin amics perquè el tracta amb moltíssima amabilitat i sempre és allà quan té un mal moment. En definitiva, que una nit gràcies a l'alcohol el pèl-roig troba el coratge per declarar-s'hi, fer-li un petó i anar una mica més enllà, però inevitablement l'altre es posa a la defensiva recordant una relació passada amb un hetero que va acabar fatal. Després del malentès la cosa s'arregla, però malauradament s'acaba d'una forma un pèl abrupta i espero que hi hagi segona part que ens expliqui com ho gestionen a la feina i si són capaços de tirar endavant la relació malgrat els dubtes de tots dos sobre l'orientació sexual del pèl-roig...

This was so cute!! Whenever I'm in the mood for a manga, I try to look for standalones. Not because I don't like longer stories with multiple volumes, but simply because I buy these in Germany and I just can't pop over to Germany to buy these whenever a new volume comes out :p But so standalone romance stories are really the one for me, and this one is one of the best I've read so far. It's not easy to really sell a love story is just one volume, but in this one, the characters just felt very genuine. You could feel how important their friendship was, and the transition to becoming lovers in this case had very realistic hurdles. I'm very happy I stumbled upon this one, and since the story isn't all that complicated, I kind of hope it gets adapted for the screen at some point, because I think that would be super cute :)

Art is cute, but the storyline is so taboo and nothing new. It's been done hundreds of time and to be honest the characters are lacking the chemistry I was hoping to see and personalities are not fitting for me like others in the same stories, to be honest I was a bit disappointed. To much like others stories in the same genre. Not feeling the storyline nothing making it unique.

OMG I am OBSESSED with these two! I died over Ueno coming out to Kanda years ago and never thinking Kanda could ever like him like that and Kanda always being over at his house and having no problem with him being gay and then slowly developing feelings for him and then being offended when Ueno pushed him away because he didn't think Kanda was being serious. I diiiiied over these two and how cute they were. Kanda being all, you like guys but you don't like me? And Ueno having always liked him because never thought he was an option and having pushed those feelings wayyyy down deep. This was awesome and cute and amazing and I loved these two dorks with all my heart!
