Ignite is a fast-paced, fun, and entertaining read. I like the characters and the storyline is different than any other new adult/contemporary book I have read.
The story touches on many different topics, including romance, grief, family relationships, mystery, accepting one's past, and growing up. While this made for a potentially touching and gripping story, it ultimately led to a busy plot that lacked the development needed.

Lauren is a likable character that is easy to relate to. She does have her faults and makes some wrong choices, but she feels like a real person. She is put into an unimaginably tough situation, and while I think she could have made some better choices, she handles things as best as she can.
Dean Powell is an intriguing and charming love interest. I like his mysterious vibe. However, I did not fall madly in love with him along with Lauren. I just didn't understand many of his actions and he felt TOO perfect at times (I know there will be another book from his perspective, so maybe that will give some insight). I liked him overall, but was not captivated by him.
The children that are now in Lauren's care are the highlight of the book. They each have their own distinct personality and I grew to love them. I loved seeing Lauren form a connection with each kid.

I do wish the story focused more on the children and Lauren's relationship with them instead of the romance. The romance is okay, but it feels rushed almost. It just did not click with me. While I like Lauren and Dean and the bond they started to form, I did not buy into their desperate need for each other.

The plot is also weird for me. Like I said before, there are a lot of things going on and each one is developed minimally. It might have been better to just focus on a few things instead.
I did like the mystery aspect. It really intrigued me, and I enjoyed seeing the plot lines come together in the end.
Either the book should have been longer or taken place over a longer period of time to adequately work out and expand each element.

The writing did make the book feel fast-paced and easy to read, but it's almost too easy to read. The writing is very basic and simplistic without a lot of flourishes. Maybe that is why I had a hard time really connecting to the story. There are quite a few pop culture references that I enjoyed, but, to me, the writing lacked richness.

The author said that she had a lot of problems with the editing of the book, and that is evident in the writing. She did a blog post about it, here is the link: http://lilyparadis.com/?p=893
I think it is important to mention this because it explains a lot.

This book has a great foundation and premise, but I do not think it was developed to its full potential. I can tell that Lily Paradis has talent and put a lot of work into this story. I am definitely looking forward to her future work.
There is something special here, I just wish it really had the chance to shine.

I don’t know what happened in here. But it was going okay at first half then it just started to become so… stupid.

wha-happen

Like I said, the first half was okay. I like how the two main characters (Lauren and Dean) met because there’s  a certain farytale-like feel into it. I mean hello, I inhale this kind of stories and even though Ignite has Insta-attraction, I wasn’t that annoyed. I kinda liked it actually. I even like the two main characters individually, and that rarely happens.

But then the clicheness started happening. Of course THE GUY HAS ISSUES. OF COURSE THE GIRL IS TRYING TO REPEL HER BECAUSE HE’S A MAN WHORE BUT SECRETLY SHE’S FALLING IN LOVE WITH HIM. OF COURSE THE GIRL’S BEST FRIEND SAID TO PURSUE IT BECAUSE HELLO THE GUY IS HOT. WHO CARES HOW MANY GIRLS THE GUY DATED AND THAT HE’S A DOUCHE.

If you are this BEST FRIEND, please change.

And also, this is the stupidest part of all IMO; Things are started happening in her life and there are questions that the answers are OH MY GOD ARE SO OBVIOUS BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER, but with some unexplainable reason, the main character, Lauren, cannot figure it out.

tumblr_inline_n0iy2ydquy1ryj2q81_zpsdd9f09b3

Maybe she’s missing.. brain cells? I don’t know.  There’s a lot of unbelievable things that was mentioned in here that made me scratch my head. It made me say ‘BS!’ a lot of times and thank the book gods that the cover is pretty and the writing was okay, because those are the only things that kept me going.

As you can probably tell I didn't like this book. I don't know whether or not it was the editor fault (link here if you don't know the story) or the book was bad from the first draft but I didn't like it.

This book was all over the place. The plot was either confusing or non-existent, and even though the premise was interesting the actual story was just a complete, gigantic NO-PLS-STOP.
This book was full of problems. I couldn't stand reading it and I skim-read the last 10%, which was just ridiculous.

What should have been a boring day waiting in-line at the DMV, with a highlight of a conversation with a handsome stranger ends up being a life changing experience. Newly twenty-one year old Lauren Lindsay collects more than her new ID after she receives a call from her uncle Jed to inform her, her step mother has passed away leaving everything to her; including legal guardianship of her three step siblings.

In obvious shock Lindsay struggles to understand her step mothers decision. Her father has previously also passed away and Lindsay is estranged from her own biological mother, with her relationship with her step mother not being much better as readers we can see try and come to terms with her family dynamic, as well as navigate through her new ready made family.

 photo 544A100B-A351-4F62-8151-20D7AEA746B4_zpszv1gbpp2.jpg

Although it's a serious task Lindsay has undertaken, I would consider the book heavily Young Adult and know without a doubt my younger self would have ate this up. Her handsome stranger at the DMV also turns out to be a friend to one of her step sisters and his offer to help forms another relationship in Lindsay's life. The relationship with Lauren and Dean has a slow, suspension-filled build up, they go from strangers, to becoming friends and falling in love - throughout the book there are references to 'Fate' and 'Princes' etc and this is also shown in the innocence of their relationship.

 photo 26698CA3-2A5E-4138-AC79-FDAEAE73A487_zpslutowtig.gif

“I love you, Dean Powell,” I whispered as I fell asleep, warm in his arms.
“I love you, Lauren Lindsay,” he answered and kissed my lips, then my forehead. “I love you.”

The book had a 'Party of Five' feel and as hard as it was for her, I really enjoyed this aspect of it. It also had the slow build up of plot, engaging the reader in asking questions Lauren has yet to ask surrounding her parents and their relationships. I also thought Dean could have been explored a bit more as we largely had Lindsay's point of view to go on, this being said there will be a second book from Dean's perspective. My rating reflects to me, as a reader acknowledging I am not the Authors intended audience and although I can't fault her for that; I do suspect het targeted audience would throughly enjoy this.

5 Stars*****

I cannot believe I am giving 5 stars to a debut author and also a YA I rarely read these but let me tell you I grabbed hold of this one and couldn't put it down. This had sweet romance, the light feathery kisses where your stomach has butterfly's and likewise a good amount of real emotion a balance and I honestly couldn't find much to fault.

 photo F195658F-9872-4FD4-A430-99567C52F03A_zps5hcycen2.jpg

What's it about
Lauren Lindsey has lost her father previously and is living independently studying and getting on with life, but life has a way of changing our paths and that is exactly what happened when her uncle Jed rang her up to hurry to the hospital. Lauren ends up being the guardian of her 3 step siblings she wants to run far away, I mean should she do? how does she take care of three other people other than herself when her path as she thought was set.

Mysterious Dean Powell is sexy, handsome and has a past but when Lauren sets her eyes o him she can't seem to walk away from the new family she has been given. Dean is a family friend and his sister is best friends with Laurens step sister, he stays close and helps Lauren to be the parent she needs to be.

Sometimes we don't ask for the paths that we are given but there are reasons for change and I am a true believer in things happen for reasons that's exactly what happens here.

Lauren and Dean embark on a journey together to fulfil life and feel, Lauren needs to make choices and choices can be difficult to make when you don't think its the path for you. Saying all this she learns what it feels to be loved and cherished and how friend and family are there to support each other, this had that butterfly feeling but lots of fun and sexy moments or lovely moments is probably a more accurate word.

 photo 0E5291AB-BB8C-4A97-8CBB-6195BE8ACC30_zpshpfndt0p.jpg

Dean has a past a bit of a man whore past because he's not wanting people to get close that is until he meets Lauren, he wants her to be it and to trust him they both need to open up to who they are, what they want and to just be happy with each other.

Lauren to me was a lovely sweet character and in all honestly I'd be proud of her if she was my daughter.

Dean is sexy, handsome, appealing but protective of his family he nurtures Lauren, his sister and Laurens Siblings.

All in all I loved the flow of the story, this is A YA but it has an NA feel to it, it has no smexy moments but lots of feathery light meeting the new boy feels.

This book should be called Drowse instead of Ignite because all this girl did was freaking sleep.

How do you have the time to sleep when you're looking out for 3 kids(and going on ski trips without them)? I mean, have you ever babysat before? You need to stay awake not only because you're going to miss picking them up from school; cause the kids kept breaking things while you were taking a siesta but also because the hot guy you have a crush would just enter your house while you were in your dream world ridding unicorns with him. What kind of dumbass!

Why this book didn't work for me:
1. the reason Lauren's uncle and his wife couldn't take the kids seems not good enough Please, try again.
2. irresponsible main character
3. stupid best friend
4. love interest

5 stars! 5 freaking huge stars!

Love love loved this book.

I found the lovely Lily Paradis on Instagram and was lucky enough to purchase a signed copy of Ignite, which was literally signed, kissed and delivered to me!

The synopsis doesn’t do this book justice, it is so so so much more!

A lot happens and so many details are shared about these characters pasts that you can’t help but glue yourself to the pages.

Character development is a huge part of this story line. The plot flows seamlessly throughout and some serious twists are thrown at you as the reader.

Whilst a lot was happening, Lily pulled it off. She hooked you in, she messed with you head, she made you fall in love (mainly with Dean Powell – no complaints!) and then she delivered everything you didn’t know you were waiting for.

This novel really did surprise me. I felt that you could feel the emotions both Lauren and Dean were experiencing.

One thing that really jumped out at me was Lauren’s anxiety. I really enjoyed reading her story and observing how she overcomes so much and accepts her past, essentially embracing her future.

It is hard not to fall in love with Dean Powell. Like it is impossible not to fall in love with him.

“He was wearing glasses. Who was he, Clark Kent? No one looked this good all the time. It just wasn’t possible.”

He is handsome, has a dazzling smile and a heart of gold. He may have a shady past and terrible reputation but Lauren brings out the best in him and it is truly beautiful to uncover.

Now, a lot happens in this book but it all fits nicely together, it all makes sense. I feel as though I still have some questions, which I’m hoping may be answered in Arclight when it is released, which is Ignite at Dean’s POV.

I’m not even going to mention the editing issues, I’ve read Lily’s blog post, which you can find HERE, regarding her struggles and honestly, this novel was way to amazing to be picky over something like that.

I honestly think this book deserves a heck of a lot more recognition. It is definitely fangirl worthy… it would totally make an amazing movie!

“The second our eyes met, I knew something has changed. Kenzie was right. He looked at me like he could see into my very soul, and it felt as if I couldn’t breathe.”

I will definitely be cherishing my copy of Ignite, not only because Lily has signed it to me personally but because it is one incredible novel.

3.5 stars

I finally decided to download this book when I saw they had it free for a day on kindle... Yeah I normally don't like to E read and I really don't like to free download books, BUT I'm waiting on a book shipment from both Barnes and Nobles and Bookdepo so I figured why not.

I really liked the concept of Ignite. Girls family passes away leaving behind three step siblings for her to take care of. Ignite was creative and, yes it's been done before but not in the way Lily has presented it (at least not that I have read). The story is sweet and overall it flows well. Something else that I really liked in this book was the way the romance was constantly building all leading up to this one moment. It was again something new and enjoyable.

The characters in this book were too me hit or miss. Laure was fine, but I had a hard time connecting too her. I think if the series continues she will become a stronger and more likeable character. Either way one moment I loved the girl the next I wouldn't. The sub-characters aka the children in this book are sweet and well written... Then there's Dean Powell..... HE IS WHAT MADE THIS STORY!!! He is a strongly written leading male. I really really enjoyed him. He was the perfect amount of both mystery and romance. Filled with great one liners I was never once let down by his character. His bad-boy past was something new for us to read. I wish that the story did take a little more time to focus on her relationship with the kids and less on time with Dean. With that being said I'll lead into the few issues I had with this book.

I know Lauren is learning how to do this parenting thing but sometimes I got so mad at her choices and wanted to reach inside the book and throat punch her... BUT by the end I think she was getting way better at the whole new mom thing. Then there was a slight issue with something said in the book. I can't go too heavy into the real reason this bothered me because I don't want to spoil anyone... But at one point Dean says he doesn't drink because of past issues, and then in one scene in the book one of Lauren's girl friends says Dean shows up to this event every year drunk... It was something so small but for some reason it really stuck with me (I think once you read it you'll pick up what I'm putting down). Then there's the editing
issue. There are a few minor ones in this book, nothing to insane, nothing that was so bad that it should keep you from reading it. I know the issue has been brought too her attention and has been addressed by Lily in a strong and honest way which I really respect... Link here -->
http://lilyparadis.com/?p=893

But back to the posi things... This story heavily relies on the romance and it's a good thing. It's really what did carry the story. It's just a sweet little nugget and was something I found myself staying up late to read. If you want a nice wear a big sweater, drinking tea, and curling up for a quick read book this is a book I would recommend to you. If you like romance but find NA to heavy, Ignite would be perfect. Yeah, there are a few pitter patters in the plot, BUT I think as a possible series cute romance it hits the nail right on the head. I like that Lily brought so many new items to the table with this book. I look forward to picking up future books by Lily Paradis, and if this series does continue I will be getting the next one.... Gotta know what happens with my boo Dean.

*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.*

If I hadn’t been so busy with work these days, I would have probably finished this book in a few hours. It was that good. I loved it so much and it killed me every time I had to put it down.

“Lauren,” Kenzie managed finally as she dramatically fanned herself, and then me. “
You did not just meet him last night.”
“No really,” I said when I could speak. “He kind of swept me off my feet. Literally.”

After finishing this book I wanted to start reading it all over again. I grew so attached to the main characters. Lauren and Dean are two characters who’ve been through so much because of personal problems. They are both flawed because of their pasts, but that makes them fit so perfect together. Lauren is so strong and I’m so proud of her about what she reached in the ending of the book. I would never have been able to do it. She struggled a bit at first, but then she just overpassed everything. She is brilliant. Yes, I’m super proud of her.
Dean is sexy, funny and so mysterious. He’s also very protective and the family he has left is so important for him. He basically stole my heart from the very beginning. I finished this book a few hours ago and I already miss him so much (I might have book hangover… okay, I probably have..).
For one moment, when the mysterious parts about him and Lauren were about to be revealed, I was scared something very bad or wrong will be revealed. My heart was pounding so fast at that moment. And I loved how it turned out!!

“You and your rugged sexuality better scoot over,” I whispered. “Unless you want to be responsible for making me pass out on this plane. I’m not sure that flight attendant knows CPR.”
“It’s okay,” he said, lowering his lips all the way to my ear so they touched my skin when he spoke. “I’m really good at mouth-to-mouth.”
Holy shit.

The whole storyline is just ... * sighs* It was heartbreaking, sad, funny, heartwarming,…
I seriously don’t know what I expected from this book in the beginning, but I’m 100% it’s so much better than I ever could have imagined. This book is SO GOOD. I can’t describe it otherwise! All the minor characters are so nice too. Especially Emma. She's so cute and she made me laugh a few times. I loved how much she loved Dean! Lauren's dad also stole my heart in this book. He must have been an amazing dad. What he did for Lauren and Dean is just indescribable.

I never wanted to kiss anyone more than I did when Dean Powell opened his beautiful, sleepy eyes and looked at me.

This book is basically perfect to me. Lily’s writing style is also very enjoyable. She knows how to keep the reader entertained and describing feelings are one of her stronger points in this book.
Lily, this is more than amazing for a debut novel! I can't wait more of your books!
I cannot wait for the sequel of Ignite: Arclight! Apparently it’s in Dean’s POV! So I’m super excited!

“I’m so proud of you,” I said over her shoulder. “I’m so proud of you that I’m going to stop at the store on my way home.”
Callie pulled back. “Why?”
“Because,” I told her. “I’m going to bake you a cake.”
“You suck at baking,” she said.
This was true.
“Okay,” I said, “I’m going to buy you a cake.”
“Cool.”

I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.

Have you ever heard of koi no yokan?”

I shook my head.

“It’s Japanese,” he explained as he trailed his fingers lightly down one of my arms. “It doesn’t have an English equivalent. Roughly translated, it’s a term for the feeling that you have when you first meet someone.”

“Like love at first sight?” I asked, tipping my head up toward his.

“No, not quite like that. It’s more like you know that a future love with that person is inevitable, but it doesn’t exist in that moment.

When I pick up a YA or New Adult novel, I am usually looking for four (heh heh Divergent joke) things:
1. An MC that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out.
2. An extremely good-looking, well-toned, sarcastic love interest with a mysterious past.
3. A sassy but overprotective best friend that not-so-secretly ships said love interest with the MC.
4. An interesting and gripping plot that I don’t get bored with.
Well, I found all of those things and so much more in IGNITE.
The characters are always my favorite part of a novel, and I fell in love with every single one in this book.
Lauren, the MC, is a strong and witty character, and while she does do some stupid things, what hormonal 21-year-old doesn't? I can most definitely say she passes the test for #1, and for me, that’s saying something.
Dean puts #2 in it’s place. I have a lot of things to say about him, but I think that my feelings can be summed up in four (again? I’m on a roll) simple words: hot guys with glasses .
I can’t get too much into the other characters without spoiling the plot, but trust me when I say that you will fall in love with them just as much as the main characters.
There’s nothing particularly striking about the setting or plotline; there’s no vampires, werewolves, assassins, or magic involved. But what’s wrong with that? Everyone needs a break from high fantasy once and a while, and this is the perfect book for that.
There is only one thing I didn’t like about the plot, hence the 4.5 instead of 5 stars. I’ve been skiing since I was four (okay, really, that wasn’t planned) (also, yes, there is a point to this story). I’m also on a ski team. So, I guess you could say I’m pretty familiar with skiing and the slopes. There is one scene where Lauren goes on a ski trip with her friends. Okay, this is going to be hard to explain without spoiling, but there is a part in the book that is very unrealistic and mostly confusing. I don’t know if I just didn’t understand the scene correctly, or if it was just not caught in the editing process (I have an unfinished version, so maybe it has been corrected since then). Here is the spoiler version for everyone who has already read the book:
Overall, I 100% recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun, romantic, realistic-fiction novel. I will absolutely be convincing all of my reader friends to get a copy!
Also, this is going to be a series (which I am extremely excited about)!!! There is a confirmed book for Dean’s POV in IGNITE, called ARCLIGHT. I especially can’t wait for his take on the events in IGNITE. I also can’t wait to see where Lily takes this story, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more books by her!

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of this from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to Lily Paradis!!

Characters: ★★★.5
The moment Lily Paradis likened Henry Cavill to Dean Powell...I JUST. MY GOD. What a hottie. Dean is kind of too good to be true. BUT MY GOD I still reallly like him. Lauren is likable but she's very similar to lots of NA female protagonists that I've read -- indecisive, sometimest TOO scared, and definitely scarred in the emotional sense. However, I did FEEL for her. I was rooting for her and Dean.

Plot: ★★★
While I've read similar stories to this in the NA genre, I liked the aspect of Lauren taking on her step siblings and the struggles she faces between going back to her life at college and being the permanent guardian of three kids. The execution was fine, but I felt alot the problems a person would face in taking on 3 kids at the age 21 were solved a bit too easily like her money situation. I still have TONS of questions about where all this money comes from.

Writing: ★★★
Really refreshing because there were no sexy times. As NA enthusiast, I've just come to expect, but it was surprising and like I said refreshing. I do have to say the writing was bit all over the place. I'm not sure if this was on purpose to keep everything a bit more mysterious until Dean's book though.

Romance/Feels: ★★★★
SO MUCH TENSION. MY GOD THE WHOLE TIME I WAS LIKE JUST KISS ALREADY.

Ending: ★★★
Like I mentioned, it feels abrupt and a bit too perfect, and I feel like I didn't get alot of answers that I was looking for. BUT at the end it says that the sequel in Dean's POV will answer lots of questions. SO there ya go.

Overall Enjoyment: ★★★.5
I really liked this. I thought it was cute and sweet. I definitely want to read the sequel!

Rereadability: Possibly to get me reacquainted with the characters/plot for Arclight.

Final Rating: 3.33 stars!
In the end, I would definitely recommend this to fans of cute sweet romances and family issues.

So, now that my video review is posted I feel better about writing a little something here.

Real Rating: 4.5

At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the book, it did not pull me in right away. Part of that may have been a result of not being in the mood for this particular books as opposed any real fault of the book.

Overall, I loved this book. It was not perfect, there were quite a few grammatical errors as a result of a poor copy editor (as explained in the author's blog post. A very interesting read on her website.), and there were a couple of moments that felt a little unrealistic to me. That being said, I cannot say enough about how much I loved this book. I grew very attached to the characters and the relationships that form between them, and I found Lauren very relateable as well since we are so close in age. I could identify with some of her struggles.

Lily Paradis did an excellent job of creating a story you can invest in and feel attached. I wasn't even in the mood for this genre and a few chapters in I found myself investing. When I wasn't reading it, I was wishing I was reading it. When I needed to go to bed, I kept reading instead. Finding another book after? Impossible. This left me in such a book hangover I must have picked up and put down 6 books and stared at my shelf waiting for a magic book to interest me, but the reality is...none of them were Lily Paradis, and I wanted more.

I'm really excited to see what's in store for her.

More of a 4.5 just because I wanted an Epilogue or something to know what happens next!!

I loved this book, it was so good. It was definitely a different New Adult book, and I liked that. I loved Dean, he was an amazing boyfriend!
The kids were so cute, I loved them. I understood why Callie was so mean, and didn't like Lauren in the beginning.

I didn't like Lauren's mom at all, she was so mean to her daughter and she didn't even care about her. Lauren's dad was amazing, we get to know a little bit about him and who he was in this book, and I absolutely loved him. He loved Lauren so much, and would do anything for her. I liked how things connected in this book, and how Lauren's dad just knew everything.

I cried in some parts of this book, and if you've read it you probably know where. I don't want to spoil anything!

Overall I recommend this book, if you want to read NA, but want to start off with something light and cute, and just perfect.

*I was sent this book by the author and publisher, for an honest review, thanks so much Lily*

“He was wearing glasses. Who was he, Clark Kent? No one looked this good all the time. It just wasn’t possible.”

First I'm gonna pick some specific words to describe the book:

Family / Love / Friendship / Feelings / Tragedy / Sadness / Courageous / hope / lovely / hooked / understanding / help / bound / ... and probably many more.

I loved this book from the beginning to the end. I'm a big fan of the building tension between love characters. This book definitely has this but with his own specific twist of feelings, understanding, slowly breaking emotional walls and the love for each other and the people arround them!

Note: this one countains also a fresh vision on what happens with siblings when the parents die and the oldest one needs to take care of the others. It gives the readers a moment to think about what to do in such kind of situation and how to handle things in the best way. To be a guardian or not to be?

This one gets a 4.2/5 stars! Go on and read it!

I've already heard a bit about Lily Paradis - mainly because Melissa wouldn't shut up about her awesome books, haha - but this one was on my TBR list for quite a while now. I just love the cover and was really intrigued by the blurb of it, so I had to give it a try!

If my rating would be based on the characters only, I'd probably give the book 5 stars - or at least close to that! I got really attached to everyone in this book, probably the most to Dean Powell and little Emma. She's extremely cute and I loved her right from the beginning. Same applied to Dean. He's just ... ugh. Lily likened him to Henry Cavill but I never imagined him to look like that. In my head Dean looked more like ... well, the guy from the Hopeless cover by Colleen Hoover. Yep, I pictured him like that. And it's even fitting because as far as I know he's also called Dean? I think so.

"I never wanted to kiss anyone more than I did when Dean Powell opened his beautiful, sleepy eyes and looked at me."

Anyways, I also liked Lauren. I just couldn't connect with her that easily because her actions not always made sense to me. There were a few scenes in the book where I questioned what, how or why just happend. It confused me to no end, so that's something I didn't really like. On the other hand, she's been trough a lot and suddenly her life changes completely. I don't know if I would have been able to adapt as quickly as she has but considering everything that had happened I think you could be proud of her.

I wasn't really sure if I knew where Lily was going with the plot but in the end I quite liked how everything turned out, even though it seemed a bit too rushed at times. The relationship between Dean and Lauren was something fresh and new to me, because even though there was an insta-attraction, it was all real slow and absolutely not rushed. I really liked that! It got also pretty emotional towards the end when they talked about their feelings and about Lauren's dad and what he always knew would happen ... heartbreaking but also made me happy.

"I love you, Lauren Lindsay. I want to kiss you more than I want to breathe, but I don’t want you to think you’re just another notch in my belt. You’re not. You’re it for me. I want you to have everything and I want to make sure I’m good enough for you. You deserve more than who I was."

Overall I enjoyed this a lot! I probably expected something different but wasn't disappointed or so. I would recommend this to lovers of romance books who don't mind adding another book-boyfriend to their lists! If you haven't read it, go ahead and do so! I'm excited for the second book (Arclight) out of Dean's POV. :D

UPDATE: Since posting this review, the author has released a blog post explaining her journey through the editing process and what happened to Ignite. It is a very honest and forthcoming post and I hope you all will check it out. http://lilyparadis.com/?p=893

Hmm.. *2.75 stars*

*Disclaimer: this book was sent to me for review in exchange for an honest review*

Full review: http://leaninglights.weebly.com/home/...

This book was a very confusing journey for me. While I thought there were aspects with potential, but that's all it really amounted to for me.
I didn't hate the plot or the characters but this book unfortunately fell flat in execution. It needed 3-4 additional times through the revision process and had several grammatical errors. Many sentences were awkward and wordy. The use of words such as "really," "so" and others like it was extremely heavy-handed.
The plot also had way too many working parts. If it had been tailored down to one or two plot twists, the story would have been much more effective.
I also wants more focus on the family dynamic instead of the romance. The main character did not have her priorities in order to me. I can appreciate her tough position at such a young age but she was 21, not 16, so at the same time, I expected more maturity out of her.
All that being said however, I was still rooting for these characters and even smiling at their interactions from time to time! I wanted to know what happened enough that I kept reading.
Ultimately, I applaud the author for working so hard to publish her first book. It's a hard process and I have nothing but respect for her ambition. I think with some experience and healthy feedback, her writing will have the time to grow, evolve and improve!

RE-READ ON APRIL 27 2015

THIS BOOK NEVER FAILS TO MAKE ME LAUGH, CRY AND FALL IN LOVE. I'M SO INLOVE WITH THIS BOOK. I MIGHT HAVE TO RE-READ IT AGAIN SOON.

FIVE FREAKIN' STARS AIN'T ENOUGH!!!

First of all, I would like to thank Ms. Lily Paradis for sending me a Kindle version of this book. I've always wanted to read this but I don't know how. So yea, I'm really grateful of what you did.

I just love the flow of the story. I love how Dean and Lindsay ended up together. I love everything about the book!!! I can say that I'm just like Lindsay when she won't let anybody in because I, too, doesn't let anybody in. But after reading this book, I kind of made a reflection that nothing will happen of you won't take a risk and give it a try.

I have never loved a book so much before and Ignite changed it. I absolutely loved it!!! I want more of Dean and Lindsay.

This book made me laugh and cry at the same time. I almost came to the point of not wanting to finish the book because it's so beautiful! Good job, author Lily Paradis! I am so excited for the second book. I hope it comes out as soon as possible and I hope I can read it as soon as possible, and yea, I hope I could really read it given my circumstances. More power!

I have to admit contemporary is not my go to genre, however, after hearing great things about this book I had to get my hands on it. When I received the book I realized it was a new adult novel, which got me excited as I have been wanting to read one soon.

I quite enjoyed this book. I was worried it would be a cute and fluffy contemporary..it is not even close to that. There is so much depth to this book. Lauren has been through so many struggles throughout her life, when another curve ball is thrown at her and is put in a situation that will forever change her life. Through her journey she meets Dean Powell, a swoon worthy, sexy male lead..typical right? nope, he has soo much more to him, so many secrets and a hidden path that just keeps your reading to find out more.

I am so happy to have received this book and will be doing a review on my YouTube channel soon.

I loved reading about Lauren's story, and watching het adapt to the new situations that we're thrown at her unconventionally. I loved Dean as well, and his story that fit so perfectly to Laurens. I adored everything about this book; the story, the characters, and also the message. Thank you Lily for getting it sent to me, i can't wait to read more from you! Everyone in the mood for a good contemporary should pick this one up! (:

I wanted to like this book, but....I couldn't. I just couldn't.
This whole story was so unrealistic, I couldn't believe a single thing that happened. Not to mention that the drama rivalled a YA Wattpad story. And hey, I'm not saying I don't like Wattpad stories, I do (well, depends on the story), but Watty stories usually need a lot of work. They might have potential, but they're generally extremely raw.

I had so many problems with Ignite. For instance, why were the three little step-siblings dumped on Lauren in the first place? Firstly, she's not blood related. Didn't Linda (the stepmum) have any family? Secondly, just because her Uncle's wife has 'flare ups' – whatever that means, doesn't mean they can't take the kids. It may have been a bit hard, but if push came to shove, they could've taken them. Thirdly, don't they have any Godparents or close family friends? Fourthly, Lauren has a twin brother, who had just as much legal connection to the kids as she does.
So what then, she has to give up her youth to look after three kids who she'd never even properly met just because she's the only apparent female who isn't prone to 'flare ups'? What about the fact that she's 21? What about the fact that she's virtually a stranger? What about the fact that she's halfway through college?

Another problem was how much of a weak, dramatic pushover Lauren was.
Her Uncle and his wife literally ordered her to look after the three kids, and she just......let them. Forgetting the 'flare ups' joke, it seemed to me that they just didn't want the responsibility of taking care of the kids even though (1 they're older and Lauren's uncle is a lawyer so they'd have a steady income (2 there's two of them whereas Lauren would have to act like a single mum, and (3 they're much more familiar with the kids while Lauren has never even really met them (I can't help pointing out that it seems that Lauren was estranged from her dad....another reason why it's unlikely she'd be given the kids).

Then you have the love interest. Oh my. It just gets worse and worse. Dean's character fell flat from the get go. He was a total jackass at first (and I don't mean in Daemon's swoony style), and somehow Lauren was attracted to him? There was way too much insta-attraction and insta-jealousy, and Dean and Lauren's connection didn't feel one bit sincere.
Oh, and then there's the matter of his past. What. A. Laugh.

Lauren mentions how Dean 'somehow got through her walls', and that she's some kind of ice queen *snorts*, but tbh I don't think she had any to begin with. She's very.....*cough* emotional. Hell, she started crying because of clam chowder and food poisoning! Yeah, I get it, food poisoning has to suck, but she's 21 and she cries over practically everything. She should start carrying a tissue box.

The only aspect I liked about the story was how the six of them, Lauren, Dean, Callie (the oldest kid), Jenny (Dean's little sister and Callie's best friend), Chase (the middle kid), and of course little Emma (the baby of the three kids), were like one big motley family where Lauren and Dean were halfway between parents and older siblings to the kids/teens. It was cute, I admit.

So yeah, I couldn't get through Ignite, and ended up DNFing it, but quite a few of my blogger friends liked it enough, so I guess it's just me really. I'm glad other's enjoyed it tho :)

DNF.

Romance aficionados, brace yourselves. Lily Paradis’s Ignite, a story about unexpected responsibilities, hard choices and inevitable love, is something to check out and add to your excessive to-read list. I’ll give you three reasons why…

“Have you ever heard of koi no yokan?” I shook my head.

It’s unlike most of the books in its genre/category, which is New Adult. Ignite is the kind of NA book I’ve leaning towards to lately. I’ve finally grown tired of the broken, tragic character stereotypes who do nothing but go around banging each other and then declare love later on. The world needs more clean NA books so people can grow out of the conventionalized idea that all the 20-something characters in such books do nothing but get some sexytime. Ignite definitely has zero banging, more swooning and I adore it for that.

“I don’t really know if mad is the right word. It wasn’t my favorite part of the evening, that’s for sure.”
“What was?”
“What was what?”
“Your favorite part?”
He grinned.
“You,” he said. “In my bed.”

It sneaks up on you and suddenly, you’re falling in love. There’s a very quick attraction between Lauren Lindsay and her love interest, Dean Powell, and I have to admit that I wasn’t that convinced at first. (But okay, now that I think about it, I get why Lauren was getting sort of moony-eyed for Dean.) I was wary of insta-love but that was easily squished by the fact that the romance in Ignite builds up fantastically. There’s a lot of things the couple had to get ahead of first- getting to know each other, becoming better for each other, etc. so things took awhile but it was awesome. I loved that there were a lot of little moments (that made my heart melt) and fun banter and ardent longing for each other and after a long time I’m just like, KISS ALREADY DAMMIT.

Holy shit.

The characters grow on you. I really didn’t know what to expect from Lauren but I ended up liking and enjoying reading her. She was caring towards her step-siblings (cute little Emma, quiet Chase, and the ever-stubborn Callie) who were left under her care and I really liked seeing them grow closer and becoming a family. Also, she has her own personal struggles to deal with, putting down the walls around her own heart and all that. Dean a.k.a. dreamboat hottie was quite romanticized physically but I liked that he was also as three-dimensional as Lauren. He got off as a little too moody for me initially but seeing him making an effort to show Lauren how special she was for her and how he wanted to be a better man for her, I couldn’t help but love him. I’m so excited that he’s getting his own POV in Arclight, sequel to Ignite.

“You’re it for me. I want you to have everything and I want to make sure I’m good enough for you. You deserve more than who I was.”

To tie my review up, Ignite was a great debut novel and I was really quite enamored! I can’t wait to read more from Lily Paradis!

I met this author on Instagram as well and I absolutely fell in love with the book description there! So when she was offering her book for a reduced price for Asian countries, I just had to buy it, now didn't I?

Best part though, I purchased and had it personally signed!! My first personally signed book! Can you believe how absolutely sweet she is? And another best thing, this book arrived exactly on the New Year's :D

I was really excited to read this book, and not just because it is a signed copy, but because the blurb honestly was quite interesting.

Ignite is the debut novel of the author and she does a pretty damn good job of keeping my interest throughout the book.

This book started unconventionally with Lauren, going in for the renewal of her DMV license where she bumps into a guy who looks like "Henry Cavill" in author's own words.

Lauren is 21 years old and has lost her father, her mother doesn't even like her and the only one she has left in the world is her twin, Tucker. When she learns that her stepmother had passed away and left her the guardianship of her 3 children, her world is tilts on it's axis all over again!

Dean Powell, the 'Henry Cavill' lookalike she meets at the DMV, is also her father's neighbor and a rumored player. He is also connected to her father in ways, she has still not understood.

This book was interesting enough to capture my interest for the whole time I had it in my hand. The plot, the characters and the writing, got me hooked on.

Dean Powell, in one word, is adorable. He is confident without being cocky. He is caring without being smothering (Hey that rhymed :D).

He also has his secrets and his insecurities, his inability to trust anyone, not even himself. So in short, his fictional perfection indeed. And I loved him from the start.

Lauren, on the other hand is a little hard to like. She swings from being mature enough to being a whiny little girl. Lets face it though, anyone who has been thrown the curve she has, has the right to be a little whiny. But just when I feel that she is has grown up, that she has gone beyond the maturity line, she jumps right back into the little whiny girl area. A character is supposed to grow up and beyond, and this didn't happen with Lauren until the very end. But, yes, even till then, she had my sympathies, because I don't think I would have been able to handle what got thrown at her!

Dean Powell was, honestly the best part about this book! I am not even kidding. He just made it infinitely better. Yes, he has scars (figuratively and literally!), but he has risen up and beyond his past. Just like most of us want to. He grew up, worked hard enough to gain custody of his sister Jenny, getting her away from foster homes.

This was enough for me to fall head over heels for him! I have always been a sucker for those bad boys with a soft core. And Dean had it in spades.

This, book being the début novel of the author, is far better than what I expected!

Ms. Paradis is definitely an author I would watch out for! Not just because Dean Powell's story will be revealed in ARCLIGHT (yup, that's me standing first in the line for her copy! HI LILY!! :D) but because this author sucks you in, with her story, her characters and her writing!

More like 4.5 stars.
Video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6srg...

So let me start off by saying that I loved this book! It was very enjoyable, it was funny and cute, but also had it's slightly darker moments pertaining to Dean's past. The characters were loveable and relatable and, for the most part, the plot was interesting and enjoyable to read about. However, this book did have some flaws.

Cons
1. Some of the arguments in this book seemed very pointless. There was one in particular which really seemed out of place and unnecessary, however it was a very short argument and overall didn't really make me like this book less.
2. It was over dramatic at times. Sometimes things happened, such as various of the aforementioned arguments, that were over the top and seemed out of place. e.g. At one point in the book there was an avalanche, which didn't really need to be there.
3. Sometimes I got mad a Lauren because she was so oblivious to how some of the characters *cough* Dean Powell *cough* felt about her.
4. Dean Powell is unrealistic. I SWEAR THERE IS NO MAN OUT THERE WHO IS THAT PERFECT!
Also there were some editing issues, however they were not Lily's fault, she had a terrible experience with the editors. I urge you to read her blog post about it here

Now the pros :
1. I absolutely loved the writing style. It was really enjoyable to read, it was beautifully written and the writing made me not want to stop reading!
2. I really enjoyed the plot, I thought it was spectacular (for the most part), but it was slightly rushed at the end.
3. I really loved some of the really awkward situations in this book, they always made me laugh
4. It was really funny and I loved how you could see Lily's humour coming through in the book. There was one thing which I wasn't sure if it was meant to be humorous, but it definitely was, which was the line:
"I let out a breath I knew I was holding"
(or words to that effect) which was making fun of that line we all know and hate:
"I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding"
This just really made me chuckle.
5. I really liked Dean's backstory, it was really interesting, and not what I was expecting at all, and I can't wait to hopefully find out more about it in Arc Light!
6. Finally, I loved all of the characters. Lauren was funny and clumsy and I could really relate to her. Dean was just perfect. There's not really much else I can say about him. I also loved the kids and I loved how Callie really seemed like a 16 year-old-girl, not too childish or too grown-up.

This book was fantastic and I definitely recommend it to everyone!

This book was beautiful. I read it in one sitting and then when it was done got disorientated as I was swept away Into this world.

It was so beautiful and the characters were so real and written so well and had the layers of a normal human which is something I love reading. I literally only got this book yesterday after having it on my Wish List for a long time and I couldn't put it down so desperate to read the whole thing and I did. And I'm proud to say it's one of my favourites.

Parts weren't perfect as I did find some points where the grammar was incorrect or sentences just didn't make sense as though some words were missing, That could just be as my book was first edition I don't know but that is a small pet peeve of mine when authors have many errors that haven't been edited. Editors faults not authors.

That didn't take away the fact that I enjoyed the book as an overall and I did it was an incredible read. The mystery and intrigue that was filled within it was perfect. Though the things I'd guessed were as suspected it was written in such a way that it didn't matter that you figure it out as it was so pure and perfect. Lauren and Dean were perfect together and the ending couldn't have been better. The family together was just perfect and they all came together when it all mattered. They pulled together every-time and it was beautiful. They meant more to each other than Lauren ever thought was possible. I just wished she'd signed the papers before the book ended.

I think this book deserves to be read by many many others it was so beautiful and I think Lily Paradis created an incredible book, with a fascinating story. It gave you all the emotions you needed while reading this story and left you testing your own mind while reading it. I'm certain I'd read this book again and I'd love it just as much then as I have today.
