Revik, the infamous Sword of the seer world, lost everything when his enemies destroyed the mind of his wife, Allie, and stole their unborn child.

Determined to fight the last battle, Revik hunkers down in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, training seers and humans alike for that inevitable confrontation. Aware of the slim odds of his own survival, Revik longs to rescue his child from the clutches of the Dreng before he dies...even if that means killing her to prevent the pain and torment he endured as the Dreng's slave.

Unfortunately, the Dreng know his weaknesses all too well. In a final confrontation over New York, they force him to choose between saving his race but sacrificing his daughter...or betraying both races to keep the last of his family intact, and maybe get his wife back alive.

“Bridge of Light” is the seventh book in the “Bridge and Sword” series by JC Andrijeski, a series that keeps breaking any boundaries bringing the plot to a new highs with any new instalment, and this present one is no exception, much to the contrary, I will even argue that this is the ‘pivotal’ book in the series, fans of Andrijeski’s other series already know, those new to the author will be happy to know there is a very bright light at the end of the bridge (sorry, not sorry, I couldn’t resist… really 😊). But we are not there yet, here is a battle to fight, revenge to be taken, heartbreak, confrontations, and an impossible choice to make, the eternal choice between blood and love before reaching that light in the near future 😉.

Andrijeski’s fluid, fast paced, vivid and always delightful writing style, excels in getting across the actions elements with the added bonus of a good social critique, without disregarding the harsher romantic aspects of the story. A clear recommendation for any fan of intelligent dark (the darkest!) urban fantasy and/or parallel science-fiction worlds, with a single caveat: the ride eventually ends and could let the reader experiencing some sleep-deprivation, as it is very, very difficult to put down, a known side-effect of Andrijeski’s writing, but don’t they said that sleep is overrated anyway 😉. Andrijeski’s series isn’t fluffy fantasy to cozy up to with a nice beverage in your favorite armchair to numb the hours away; you will still cozy up, but you would like to make your ‘tea’ of choice a little bit stronger.

Set in a world reminiscent very reminiscent our own, albeit populated by “Seers” and Humans. Seers possess psychic abilities and are subjugated by the humans who use them for their own purposes. JC Andrijeski’s world feels very familiar and deeply alien at the very same time, populated with highly interesting characters, both seers and humans, that often blur the line between good and evil, which makes them all the more believable and relatable and captivating. Adult urban paranormal fantasy at it best, aimed at mature readers, with open views, all those who crave full dimensional characters and good stories, with a good side dish of action and entertainment, and enjoy following the evolution of the main characters through a wide story arc, those who are not afraid to cross some narrative lines in the name of a good story and explore brand-new perspectives on themes of love, bonding and fate, welcoming multidimensional characters that try to walk the moral line while finding a way to survive their own personal struggles.

I first read this book when it was in its “prior life” as part of the Allies War series. I really enjoyed it again, enough that I wanted to try it again in its updated version as book 7 of the Bridge & Sword. I’m not sure if this is good or bad news but it’s been long enough since my prior read (and/or the changes are subtle enough) that I couldn’t find obvious differences. That’s irrelevant for newcomers to this series, however, because whether or not subtly different it’s a wonderful book.

The Bridge & Sword series really is the dark, gritty science fiction and apocalyptic series promised in its Kindle blurb. I generally don’t like apocalyptic stores but this one grabbed me and didn’t let me go. I frankly don’t understand how JC Andrijeski did it. Perhaps it was the quality of the characters, both lead and supporting cast. I definitely love the lead characters of here, the dark and dangerous Dehgoies Revik (the “Sword” of the series), with his harrowing back story, and his lover, partner and bride, Alyson Taylor (the eponymous Allie of the original series Anne - and the “Bridge” in the renamed series). Revik and Allie have amazing chemistry and they’re (sexy) romance is a total pleasure. See ing the different sides of Revik, so starkly portrayed in this book both in its dark ferocity and in its gentle side in his love for Allie, and seeing how he bonds with Magyar, Dori, Wreg and Jon as a team to try to save Allie and rescue the baby, is pure reading pleasure. The Dreng may have thought they’d win when they seemingly destroyed Allie’s mind and stole Ravik’s and her unborn child, but they’ve not seen anything yet. Revik will fight to the very last battle no matter how impossible the odds - and we readers get to enjoy the benefit of this.

Highly recommended.

This book was a tough read for me. I loved some aspects but I absolutely loathed others. Let’s start with the bad...

Going into book 7 I am completely tired of the overly complex descriptions of the barrier, constructs, shielding, light, etc. I think that this far into the series if the reader doesn’t get it they aren’t going to. I feel like chapters of the book were literally spent explaining these concepts which did not add to the overall plot of the book.

Normally this series is action packed and I did not get that to nearly the end of this book. So much time was spent inside of the character’s heads. More time was spent explaining their thoughts than anything else.

but when it’s good, it’s really GOOD...

Not normally a fan of MM relationships in books, I adore all that is Jon & Wreg. I feel like I know Jon in real life. We all have that one friend who is so screwed in the head they don’t know a good thing when they see it, the friend with the self loathing, the friend who just won’t allow himself to be happy. And then you have Wreg weathering the storm, always there when Jon needs him.

Okay so my man Revik, MY MAN REVIK, sheesh! If only my husband were as devoted as this guy, seriously he loves like no other. I could have seriously used his ability to focus and multitask in college. Always ready to kick some Dreng butt, Revik is on a mission and I was happy to be along for the ride.

I give this book 4/5 for this alone:

“Fuck you, and the horse you rode in on… you sick, skull-faced fuck.” Revik to Menlim

I’m a third through the book. I’ve had to refresh some aspects of it as it’s been a few months since I’ve read the previous one, but I’ve never forgotten Allie, Jon, Revik etc. This is one of the first times I’ve put a bookmark on a piece of work just to remind myself of this moment and the profound emotions it tore from me. I remember wanting more Jon POVs in the other books and I’m grateful to see that his voice is more present in this one. Jon’s storyline hits hard, I could relate to his state of mind so much, every time I cried during my reading, it was for him. He’s just the souls of this book I think.
I read the first few books in one breath, hanging on to the emotional roller coaster by a thread. So far it’s been enrapturing, but I must say there’s a lot of turmoil that feels somewhat gratuitous after a while. They just can’t catch a break it seems! I would honestly like to hear what others have to say or if it’s just my experience (I have been reading more “vanilla” content as of recently) or if it is warranted, because I can’t help but sympathise with the motherly instincts of the villain while also being completely repulsed by other aspects of their character. So far it’s been Heartwrenching, we’ll see how it goes from here.
I’m writing this review as I go: the attention to detail on the writers part is formidable. The mentioning of the uncomfortable Victorian chairs in the San Francisco mansion from multiple perspectives, for example.

Revik has lost everything – his unborn daughter, he got his wife back but they took her mind. So he decides it is time for a final confrontation – he prepares in San Francisco and then everyone moves to New York for the final battle. The Dreng are well aware of his weaknesses - will he have to choose between his child or his race and can he rescue his child from the Dreng or will he have to kill her to save her from becoming their slave?

WOW – there was so much drama and danger in this book after the events in the previous one it felt like a roller-coaster at times. I felt so desperately SAD for Revik as events unfolded that I just wanted to give him a huge hug while at the same time I either felt like crying or wanting to kick some serious butt. There were a lot of descriptions of thoughts and emotions in this book and they were so powerful, clear and easy to understand I felt as if I was there living it with them. I can't wait for the next instalment now.

Please note this book needs you to have read the previous books in the series first.

This was a very emotional ride. Allie is addicted to wires and in a coma. Her daughter cut out of her stomach by her former best friend, Cass. No one knows if the baby survived. Revik is a mess. Jon is a mess as he blames himself for what happened to Allie and thinks everyone else does too. Wreg is a mess because Jon won't allow them to be close. He doesn't feel he deserves Wreg. Everyone is suffering and they are suffering alone.

The part of this book I didn't like although I understand is that so much of the novel happens in the characters heads and their thoughts. At times their inner monologues go on a long time without any action or dialog and it feels long. I think these sections could have been shorter. That said, the story is a gripping and emotional one. If you have read the other books, you will definitely want to read this one if for no other reason that to find out what happens to Allie.

This was a book which I approached with a mix of feelings.  There was a significant amount of trepidation balanced against a desire to devour more of Allie and Revik's story.

And I was right - this is a difficult book to read - Cass's POV sections in particular.  Her complete break/disconnect with reality was handled in such a way that it was a very unsettling part of the narrative.

Revik's grief.  Jon's guilt.

I found myself rushing to read the next sentence, the next paragraph, the next page, in an attempt to get to the climax sooner.  The author didn't disappoint, skillfully drawing all the threads together.

This is an addictive series.

This part of Bridge was a hard one to get through.
With Allie missing, Revik off grieving even when he was active, and Jon not able to get his head in the right place, I got really frustrated at times.
I wanted to slap Jon and Wreg, lock them in a room and bang their heads together. Forget giving them time, get on with it!

Add to that the fast pace of things happening within the group, and the mounting danger from outside, the strange disappearances, and ever stranger surprises!

I had to take breaks while reading because I was actually out of breath!
Without giving anything away, I'll say the end was a dichotomy. Part temporary happiness, part 'What the heck !!"

I received Bridge, book 7 of the Sword & Bridge series, from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, in fact, I liked the book enough I bought my own copy when it became available. After the riveting conclusion of War (#6), I was excited when this next installment in this intricate and multi-layered series was finally (FINALLY!) available -cuz I really need to know how the author could twist her way out of the startling ending of the prior book. A great progression of the overall thread, and readers get to experience the full power of the Sword- Wow! There were quite a few emotionally powerful scenes- Jon's character really stood out for me. Love this series.

There is so much going on in this series and this book is another piece of that puzzle. It is fast paced and full of action, the characters grip you and won't let go. We pick up 6 months after the last book, War, ends with Revik on autopilot and Jon pretty much numb. The rest of the team is simply in a holding pattern trying to support whatever action Revik decides on. What happens during the book will have you on another rollercoaster, it never stops and you can't get off until the end. The ending leaves us in a calm place for now but there is more on the horizon, of that we can be sure.

I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.

I'm addicted to this world

Book 7 Bridge and Sword Series
This chapter of JC Andrijeski's Bridge and Sword series feels like a culmination or resolution of many of the plot points. All of the previously fragmented story lines in the past six books come to a head.

This compelling couple, Allie and Revic, became real to me in the past few books. Book six's cliffhanger shocked and saddened me. But when dealing with Intermediaries, I have learned to wait for the other shoe to drop.

I'm addicted to these stories right now. JC Andrijeski's worlds are a welcome escape from the present day 24 hour news cycle.

Surprises

Excellent story! Allie is missing intellectually as a result of Cass’s treatment and her baby is gone. Revik is functioning but barely. The love of his life is alive just barely. Jon is heartbroken and Wreg is suffering as well. Read this excellent story as Revik tries to reconnect with his wife. There is so much going on but have Kleenex hand as well while you are reading. The plots and subplots and twists will keep you as enthralled as it did me. I highly recommend this book and the entire series!

My heart broke with the last book. I have to say, this one restored it.

Revik deals with a lot in the the “Allie” aftermath while also trying to find his daughter and Cass. I give him a lot of credit after all he went through. Even what you call the supporting characters (Jon, Balidor etc) are put through the wringer.

There are a lot of emotions (both high and low), a lot if drama and twists and turns in every corner. This book keeps you engrossed. The ending definitely put me in better spirits. Definitely excited for the next one!

The plot thickens

Poor Revik! This poor man was doomed for the hard life from the day he was born and then Menlim happened. I hate that man! Long game of torture and control that won’t stop until all of his little games to have Revik under his thumb and doing his bidding come to a head. No matter who it messes up or kills in the process. This next book is going to be sooo good, I can feel it!

Wow... Just WOW!

....and breathe!!! I don't think I have ever read a series which is so complexely created on both an emotional and physical level! The sheer skill it takes to construct such a multi layered story is mind blowing!
The depth of emotion which this devastating dark story evokes with warp your mind and your soul!
I love it, even though each book leaves me an emotional wreck!!!

Not enough time

I just can't praise this book or even the whole series enough. It's an amazing testament to this writer's talent. The world she's created its scarily not unlike the world today full of danger and uncertainty. Throw in another race and a passionate love story fighting to survive despite desperate odds it's just fantastic.

Heartbreaking...

‘Bride: Bridge & Sword,’ was incredibly heart wrenching... so part of this novel were very difficult to get through. The tragedies and obstacles Revik and Allie endure feel insurmountable. Will their love for one another see them through? Will they be able to carry on and win this battle?

Can't get enough of this world

This book, this series, has kept me up nights reading 'just one more chapter' every night. Revik and Allie are the main characters. They are seers. Are they supposed to save us from the Apocalypse, or are they supposed to cause it? A bit of both, I think.

Good read

Another good read although I am starting to get bored. I can understand why the books are dragging the storyline out as there are so many characters and storyline to intertwine.
Knowing there are 4 more books to go I think I might take a break before diving into book 8. But I will definitely finish the series.

I don't know how this author continues to surprise us in this series, but she does. Sometimes, I get bogged down in the technical aspects of the sci fi. Maybe I just want to read too fast to find out what's going to happen next! Can't wait to see how the child develops.

Bridge: Allie's War, Episodes 28-31, JC Andrijeski
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews.
The world is dying. Everyone feels it, and yet, no one knows.
They said that when the end was near, a Bridge would come, and lead them out of the darkness of that dying world.
Allie Taylor's life was relatively normal...
Until Revik showed up.
And told her she was that Bridge.

So the last book ended dramtically with Allie close to death and wire addicted, and Cass and Shadow having stolen her babay from the womb.... Drama or what? Just when I think we're close to an even keel JC throws in more to rock things up. Anyway poor Revik, ( I love that guy) to me he's close to breaking point. His life, so far anyway, has been the stuff of nightmares, he's endured more than anyone ever should, and just when he finally got together with his soul mate Allie he's been torn apart again and again from her. So far they've found their way back each time, but now - is it the end? It looks dire, Allie's alive but in an odd way, pretty much a life support type thing, no-one can reach her mentally, so its just a living shell of a body it seems. Throw in that the Rooks have their baby and where do his priorities lay? He wants Allie, needs her back for everyone's future and especially for him personally, but he also can't let the Dreng keep and use their child. He needs to work on both things at once, but though he's a seer and tough he can only do so much.
It's drama all the way, tears, heartbreak and a very few good moments thrown in. I feel I really know these characters now, don't have to stop and think “what does that mean, how does that work” even when JC writes about how they click – seems to be a before speech thing mostly, I just accept it as part of their ways, a sort of behavioural concept habit....I've come along way since book one, and my usual dislike of this type of fantasy that made me think I wouldn't enjoy this series – how wrong I was! I just love it.
I really felt for Jon too in this book, he's carrying such a guilt complex for unwittingly letting the Dreng get to Allie....he's keeping himself closed off and Wreg doesn't known how to help. Of course the Seers are at times irrational and jealous – just abit !! - and Wreg isn't sure if maybe somethings going on with Jon and Revik, or maybe someoen else....still, he's a strong support when Jon needs it.
I said how I feel I know so many characters here, and I do...even among the new ones some stand out – Dante, the teen PC genuis, and of course Jayden and his girlfreind, though she seems pretty useless, maybe there's something hidden in her.... I keep wondering just how they all are going to develop. Jayden seems a jerk, but then I love Allie and Revik so am biased, but so many people I thought I disliked change over time, when I find out whats behind their behaviours. Even Terian, after reading his novella, I found I had some sympathy for. Cass though – nope, I disliked her from the early days and just can't see how anything can excuse whats she's done. She's being used IMO but she wants to be, she's been jealous of Allie for so long, since childhood even, and yet Allie has done so much to help her, at cost to herself and without thinking of anything but friendship – then she gets treated like this. Nope, for me Cass is just plain evil – JC are you listening? No changing my mind here by giving her some excuse that i've missed ;-)
So its another cracker of a read, long, packed with adventure ( and those battles I still skim....) drama, emotion, and leading on to next book. I'm wondering now how many more we have to go? ? It feels like with the devastation we've gone through and the state of the world at present, we must be at the point where there's an upturn and the prophecied rebuild new world order starts to happen.

Bridge.

Let me state directly up front that as always, I adore the world of Allie's War. The characters feel like good friends of mine, and when friends are grieving, I am grieving a bit, too.

Bridge is a difficult book in many respects. Revik is a mess. Jon is wracked with guilt and shame, and almost intentionally destroying all of his relationships, with everyone, really.

The team is kind of re-grouping, grieving and waiting for some "go ahead" from Revik about what to do next - waiting, really, for Shadow's puppet, Cass (War), to make her next move.

But what's also happening during these pages is some deepening knowledge of our friends, and a good bit of team development - including Jon's team of humans. We get to know the human hacker, Dante a little bit better, too.

Bridge is quiet and introspective - until BAM! Everything comes to a head, the teams are on one hell of a difficult mission - and the whole set-up is a twisted hall of mirrors. It's a climax that catapults you into waiting on tenterhooks for the next book.

(shakes head) Dang.

JC Andrijeski seems to write my favorite book, EVERY TIME. How the heck does she DO it?

(Yeah, you really do have to read the novels in order).

Love love love this series.

Extremely well-built world, characters, and plot. The series covers more than a bit of disturbing topics, at least touching lightly on torture, rape, and others, though not in great detail. the author does so fairly well, and keeps interest up, though I had to step away and read some lighter stories during the process of reading the whole series. Allie can be a real b**ch, and her husband--who started as the PitA)--comes out of this one with SO many Get Out of Jail Free cards due to her actions that it isn't funny.

Also well-written and edited, which is wonderful as that is a growing pet peeve of mine. Relatively few errors and more of those were things like duplicated worlds from the editing process (e.g., the the). All in all, a great read.

BTW, after reading this and the last book (Book 6), I needed a brain break in a major way! Off to more fluffy books and a comedy or two before I finish up the series!

Bridge by J.C. Andrijeski.
4 out of 5 stars.
Allie was abducted by the Shadow and had a 'home' cesarean section delivery on the baby that she had only just found out she was carrying, after which they left her hooked up to wires at the highest setting. Needless to say, that has blown her mind, leaving her unconscious and unable to help herself.
Cass and Terian have stolen her unborn child and are raising it as their own, but Revik is hot on their trail. He's furious at their callous treatment of his wife and is hunting them down, wanting blood.
This is a brilliant installment to the series; it has everything you need to help you get right into it and enjoy it. I actually sat and had a good cry at some of the parts in this story, but if I say much more it'll spoil the storyline for those that want to read it for themselves!
I recommend this book to all those interested in Paranormal, Romance, Fantasy, and Mythological Figures.
