Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival. This film, Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Award in 1992. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.
Early Life and Background:
Ray's grandfather, Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury was a writer, illustrator, philosopher, publisher, amateur astronomer and a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious and social movement in nineteenth century Bengal. Sukumar Ray, Upendrakishore's son and father of Satyajit, was a pioneering Bengali author and poet of nonsense rhyme and children's literature, an illustrator and a critic. Ray was born to Sukumar and Suprabha Ray in Calcutta.
Ray completed his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics at Presidency College of the University of Calcutta, though his interest was always in Fine Arts. In 1940, he went to study in Santiniketan where Ray came to appreciate Oriental Art. In 1949, Ray married Bijoya Das and the couple had a son, Sandip ray, who is now a famous film director.
Literary Works:
Ray created two of the most famous fictional characters ever in Bengali children's literature—Feluda, a sleuth in Holmesian tradition, and Professor Shonku, a genius scientist. Ray also wrote many short stories mostly centered on Macabre, Thriller and Paranormal which were published as collections of 12 stories. Ray wrote an autobiography about his childhood years, Jakhan Choto Chilam (1982). He also wrote essays on film, published as the collections: Our Films, Their Films (1976), Bishoy Chalachchitra (1976), and Ekei Bole Shooting (1979).

আমার জন্ম থেকে চট্টগ্রামে বড় হওয়া। তাই যখন প্রথম চাকরিসূত্রে ঢাকায় আসি তখন খুব একটা পছন্দ হয়নি এই ঢাকা। সত্যি বলতে আজও ঢাকা আমার খুব একটা পছন্দ নয়। রাস্তায় বের হলেই দেখা যায় মানুষজন ছুটে চলছে, তাদের সবার কিসের যেন তাড়া। এখানে মানুষের জন্য time is money। অবশ্য সবাই এখানে টাকার জন্য ,চাকরির জন্যই আসে। কিন্তু এরমধ্যে একটা ভালো দিক ও আছে, মানুষকে এই শহর productive হতে সাহায্য করে। লন্ডনে ফেলুদা বই টা পড়ার সময় যখন লন্ডনের ব্যস্ততার কথা পড়ছিলাম তখন একইসাথে ঢাকার কথা মনে হচ্ছিল , আবার খুব করে লন্ডন শহর টা দেখার লোভ হচ্ছিল। এত সুন্দর করে লেখক লন্ডনের বর্ণনা করেছেন যে লোভ হওয়াটাই স্বাভাবিক। তার উপর শার্লক হোমসের বাসস্থান। এবার আসি মূল গল্পে, আমার মনে হয় রঞ্জন দত্ত মারা যাওয়ায় ভালোই হয়েছে। তা নাহলে এতদিন পর স্মৃতি ফিরে পেয়ে নিজেকে খুনি জেনে বেঁচে থাকাটা বোধ হয় বড় কষ্টের হতো। ফেলুদার আরেকটি সুন্দর গল্প দিয়ে মাসের শুরু হলো।

ফেলুদা এট ইটস বেস্ট।ক্লাসিক ফেলুদা।স্মৃতিভ্রম এক মানুষের বন্ধুর খোজ করতে গিয়ে সুদূর লন্ডন ভ্রমণ একেবারে!এরপর কেচো খুড়তে গিয়ে বের হয়ে গেল সাপ।তবে সবকিছু কেমন জানি বড্ড সোজাসাপ্টা লেগেছে।বরং একটু কঠিন দেখালে আরেকটু বেটার হত।

গতকাল রাত্রে ঘুম আসছিল না। সকালে আবার ক্লাসে যেতে হবে। শত চেষ্টার পরেও যখন ঘুম এল না চোখে, রাগের মাথায় দুইটা ডিসোপিন (ঘুমের ঔষধ) খেয়ে ফেললাম। আশা করেছিলাম এর পর হয়ত ঘুম আসবে কিন্তু... ঘুম ও বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করল। আজকাল কাকে ভরসা করব? ঘুমের ঔষধেও যে ভেজাল।
ঘুম যখন আসছে না, কি করা যায়! ভাবলাম ASMR চালিয়ে চোখ বন্ধ করে শুনতে থাকি। এভাবেই যদি ঘুম এসে যায়। যেমন ভাবা তেমন কাজ, ইউটিউবে ঢুকে asmr খুঁজতে যাব, অমনি সামনে মিরচির ফেলু গল্প চলে এল। আর সকালের ক্লাসের কথা যেন ভুলে গেলাম আর চালিয়ে দিলাম "লন্ডনে ফেলুদা"।
এরপর রাত ভর, ফেলু মিত্তিরের সাথে আমি, তোপসে, জটায়ু ঘুরে এলাম লন্ডন থেকে।
গল্পটা আহামরি খুব সাসপেন্সের না। ফেলুদা’র অনন্য গল্প গুলা থেকে একটু আলাদা তবে মহারাজা সত্যজিৎ রায় যেভাবে সাজিয়েছেন, পুরাটা সময় মন্ত্রমুগ্ধ হয়ে শুনে গেছি!
মিরচি বাংলার অসাধারণ উপস্থাপন অডিওবুক শোনার এক্সপেরিয়েন্স টাকে নিয়ে গেছে সম্পূর্ণ অন্য লেভেলে।
পুরা সময় কিভাবে যে কেটে গেল জানিনা। যখন গল্প শেষ হল তখন টের পেলাম বাইরে পাখি ডাকছে মানে সকাল হয়ে গেছে। এরপর উঠে একটু পানি খেয়ে বিছানায় গা এলিয়ে ফেসবুক স্ক্রল করতে করতে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছি আর চোখ খুলেছে বিকাল ৪টা নাগাদ। মানে ঘুমের ঔষধ আসলে ভেজাল ছিল না তবে একটু লেটে রেসপন্স করে এই যা আরকি।

এখানকার অনেক রাস্তার নাম বড় বড় পাথরের ফলকে লেখা থাকে। একটুক্ষন চলার পর সেইরকম একটা ফলক চোখে পড়ায় ব্যাপারটা বুঝে নিলাম। রাস্তার নাম বেকার স্ট্রিট। ২২১ বি বেকার স্ট্রিটে যে শার্লক হোমসের বাড়ি সে কে না জানে? ওই নম্বরে যদিও সত্যি করে কোনও বাড়ি নেই। কিন্তু কাছাকাছি নম্বর তো আছে। ফেলুদা সেইরকম একটা বাড়ির সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে গম্ভীর গলায় বলল, 'গুরু, তুমি ছিলে বলেই আমরা আছি, আজ লন্ডনে আসা সার্থক হল।
বেকার স্ট্রীটে না এলে লন্ডন দেখা সম্পূর্ণ হত না এটা বুঝতে পারলাম।
গোয়েন্দাগিরি'র সাথে সাথে এই গল্পে বর্ণবৈষম্য, প্রতিশোধ এই জিনিসগুলো বেশ ভালো ভাবে দেখিয়েছেন লেখক।

Londone Feluda takes author’s iconic detective beyond India for the first time, and it’s fascinating to see Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu explore London while tackling a new mystery. The setting adds a fresh flavor to the series, and the cultural contrasts are portrayed with Ray’s usual charm and wit.
I listened to the audiobook version, and it was quite enjoyable — the narration and background effects captured the mood well and made the experience immersive. However, the mystery itself felt a bit lighter compared to some of Feluda’s more gripping adventures. The suspense was mild.
Overall, I’d rate it 3.5 stars — entertaining and atmospheric, but not among my top Feluda favorites.

ফেলুদা, তোপসে ও জটায়ু প্রথমবার লন্ডনে। তাদের প্রথমবার লন্ডন চোখে দেখার অভিজ্ঞতার বর্ণনা হিসেবে গল্পটা পড়া যেতে পারে। রহস্যকাহিনি হিসেবে একদমই উঁচুদরের নয়।

Ranjan Majumder, a handsome CA shows Feluda an old photo from his childhood and asks him to find out who the boy standing next to him is, what his identity is, and where he is now. Due to a childhood bicycle accident that caused him to lose his memory, he cannot recognize the boy, and he asks Feluda to solve this mystery.
Ranjan Majumdar's Background
Feluda contacts a chartered accountant, Dharani Mukherjee, who is a fellow club member of Ranjan Majumdar. Mukherjee describes Majumdar as a reserved and quiet man. He confirms that Majumdar lived in England as a child.
Searching for the Unknown Boy
Feluda obtains a list of students from St. Xavier's College in 1952. He and Lalmohon visit one of the former students, Dr. Hiren Basak, a homeopath. Dr. Basak recognizes Ranjan but not the other boy in the photo. He tells Feluda that asking other classmates would be a waste of time, but he gives Feluda the name of another former student, Dr. Jyotirmoy Sen.
Feluda, Lalmohon, and Topshe meet with Dr. Jyotirmoy Sen, an allopathic doctor. Dr. Sen immediately recognizes Ranjan, saying they were close friends in college. He describes Ranjan as an "eccentric" with strong nationalistic feelings, possibly inherited from his grandfather who was a freedom fighter. Dr. Sen confirms that Ranjan's father was a doctor in England who returned to India after a dispute. He also confirms that Ranjan's bicycle accident erased his memories of his time in England, including his friends there.
Next Steps in the Investigation
After the meeting, Feluda and Topshe visit Ranjan Majumdar. Feluda informs him that the boy in the photo was not a classmate in Kolkata. He then asks for permission to publish a picture of the unknown boy in a newspaper advertisement in Kolkata and Delhi. Ranjan agrees on the condition that his name is not mentioned.
Feluda's newspaper advertisement proves successful when an Australian tourist named John Dexter contacts him. Dexter identifies the boy in the photo as his cousin, Peter Dexter, and recalls that Peter's father, Michael Dexter, was in the Indian Army and had seven children. Armed with this crucial information, Feluda informs his client, Ranjan Majumdar, who becomes determined to find his long-lost friend. Ranjan immediately arranges for Feluda, Topshe, and Lalmohan Ganguly to travel to London to continue the investigation. The trio flies from Bombay to London
Feluda reaches London with Topshe and Jatayu, checks into a clean, affordable hotel, and sends the duo to explore Oxford Street while he phones his doctor-friend Bikash for leads.
Topshe and Jatayu brave the “ocean of humanity” at Oxford Street, visit Selfridges, and Jatayu buys a fountain pen before they have tea and return.
Feluda learns of an elderly Bengali doctor, Nishanath Sen, who may know the client’s family, briefly meets him, and schedules a proper visit to his Richmond home the next morning via the Underground.
Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu travel by Underground in drizzly London to meet Dr. Nishanath Sen in Richmond, where Sen warmly hosts them and confirms he knew Ranjan Majumdar’s father, Rajani, since 1948.wikipedia
Sen recounts Rajani’s “peculiar” family: revolutionary-turned-heart-specialist father Raghunath who pushed Rajani to Britain, Rajani’s practice at St Mary’s, son’s schooling at Warrendell (Epping) and Trinity, and Rajani’s abrupt return to India over a slight from a British patient.wikipedia
They learn Ranjan is now a chartered accountant, implying his UK education didn’t carry over in India; after coffee with Sen and his wife Emily, the trio head back from the station.
1. Investigation at Warrendale School (Epping):
Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu travel to Epping and visit Warrendale School.
Their goal is to verify whether Ranjan Majumdar was a student there in the late 1940s, and whether Peter Dexter studied in the same class.
Mr. Manning, a school official, checks the old registers.
He confirms that R. Majumdar was indeed a student in 1948, but no Peter Dexter was listed either in 1948 or 1949.
This means Peter Dexter’s connection to Ranjan could not be established here.
2. Next Step in the Investigation:
Feluda decides that Cambridge records may reveal more about Peter Dexter.
He also suggests publishing an advertisement in the Times personal column, asking if anyone has information about Peter Dexter of Norfolk.
His reasoning: an ad might bring personal details which formal records cannot provide.
Chapter 8
1. The Advertisement and Mr. Archibald Cripps
Two days later (Sunday), Feluda’s advertisement about Peter Dexter appears in The Times.
The very next morning, a man named Archibald Cripps calls Feluda, saying he has information.
He arrives soon after: rough voice, rude personality, racist views.
Cripps reveals:
Peter Dexter died long ago in Cambridge while boating on the River Cam.
He drowned because he could not swim.
The Dexter family had five brothers and two sisters.
He knows only about George (army officer who went to India after Independence) and Reginald (living in India on a tea estate, but fatally ill with cancer).
Cripps offends Feluda with racist remarks about Indians. Feluda firmly dismisses him, but extracts the critical clue that Peter Dexter indeed studied at Cambridge and died in a boating accident.
2. Journey to Cambridge
Since time is short (they will return to India in two days), the team sets off for Cambridge the same afternoon.
Cambridge is depicted as a beautiful university town filled with colleges.
At Trinity College (where Ranjan Majumdar studied in 1951), records confirm that Ranjan and Peter Dexter were classmates.
3. Interview with Mr. Hookins, the Old Gardener
A college official, Mr. Taylor, cannot help much since he joined only seven years ago. He refers them to Hookins, an old gardener who has worked there for forty years.
Hookins is over sixty, still active, and has a friendly relationship with students.
When Feluda asks about accidents on the River Cam, Hookins remembers:
A tragic case where an English student drowned in a capsized boat.
The boy didn’t know how to swim.
He dimly recalls that maybe another person was with him in the boat.
He thinks the English boy might have had an Indian friend.
But he cannot clearly remember whether the Indian student was also in the boat.
Hookins says he didn’t see the accident start; only heard cries of “Help! Help!” and rushed to the riverside.
He cannot confirm beyond doubt if another student drowned with Peter Dexter. He apologizes—his memory is blurred as this was the same day as his wedding, which is why the event stuck in his mind.
Chapter 9
1. Testimony of Satyanathan (Ranjan and Peter’s Classmate)
Feluda and team meet Mr. Satyanathan, a classmate of Ranjan Majumdar and Peter Dexter at Cambridge.
He confirms:
Ranjan and Peter were best friends, though they often quarreled.
Peter despised Indians generally but accepted Ranjan since he “looked half-English.”
He himself often suffered racial abuse from Peter (called him a “dirty n****r”).
The boating accident:
It happened on the day before Whitsun Sunday.
Peter and Ranjan were together in the boat.
Ranjan jumped into the water to save Peter but could not.
Peter’s younger brother Reginald Dexter also tried unsuccessfully.
Reginald spread the allegation that Ranjan deliberately let Peter drown, but most dismissed him as biased because of his racist hatred for Indians.
Ranjan left Cambridge soon after a bicycle accident and returned to India.
2. Feluda’s Suspicion and Second Visit to Hookins
Feluda feels uneasy: Hookins (the gardener) probably concealed facts earlier.
They visit Hookins at his home.
Feluda’s questioning corners Hookins. Initially evasive, he finally confesses the truth:
Peter and Ranjan were arguing fiercely in the boat.
Peter attacked Ranjan.
Ranjan, holding the oar, struck Peter.
Peter lost consciousness and fell into the water.
Ranjan only pretended to rescue him — in reality, he caused Peter’s death.
Hookins lied at the inquest to protect Ranjan, testifying it was an accident.
Reginald, however, told the truth, but his testimony was disbelieved because of his open racism toward Indians.
Official verdict: Death by accident.
3. The Telegram
Back in London, Feluda receives a telegram from Ranjan Majumdar, stating:
“Can recall everything. Return immediately.”
Meaning: Ranjan’s lost memory is now recovered — he remembers being responsible for Peter’s death.
This sets up a tense return to India.
4. The Twist in Calcutta
On their return, they discover a shock:
Ranjan Majumdar has been murdered that very morning by an unknown English visitor.
Next morning’s newspaper carries another news:
In a hotel on Sudder Street, an Englishman named Reginald Dexter was found dead, apparently by suicide with a revolver.

Feluda contacts a chartered accountant, Dharani Mukherjee, who is a fellow club member of Ranjan Majumdar. Mukherjee describes Majumdar as a reserved and quiet man. He confirms that Majumdar lived in England as a child.
Searching for the Unknown Boy
Feluda obtains a list of students from St. Xavier's College in 1952. He and Lalmohon visit one of the former students, Dr. Hiren Basak, a homeopath. Dr. Basak recognizes Ranjan but not the other boy in the photo. He tells Feluda that asking other classmates would be a waste of time, but he gives Feluda the name of another former student, Dr. Jyotirmoy Sen.
Feluda, Lalmohon, and Topshe meet with Dr. Jyotirmoy Sen, an allopathic doctor. Dr. Sen immediately recognizes Ranjan, saying they were close friends in college. He describes Ranjan as an "eccentric" with strong nationalistic feelings, possibly inherited from his grandfather who was a freedom fighter. Dr. Sen confirms that Ranjan's father was a doctor in England who returned to India after a dispute. He also confirms that Ranjan's bicycle accident erased his memories of his time in England, including his friends there.
Next Steps in the Investigation
After the meeting, Feluda and Topshe visit Ranjan Majumdar. Feluda informs him that the boy in the photo was not a classmate in Kolkata. He then asks for permission to publish a picture of the unknown boy in a newspaper advertisement in Kolkata and Delhi. Ranjan agrees on the condition that his name is not mentioned.
Feluda's newspaper advertisement proves successful when an Australian tourist named John Dexter contacts him. Dexter identifies the boy in the photo as his cousin, Peter Dexter, and recalls that Peter's father, Michael Dexter, was in the Indian Army and had seven children. Armed with this crucial information, Feluda informs his client, Ranjan Majumdar, who becomes determined to find his long-lost friend. Ranjan immediately arranges for Feluda, Topshe, and Lalmohan Ganguly to travel to London to continue the investigation. The trio flies from Bombay to London
Feluda reaches London with Topshe and Jatayu, checks into a clean, affordable hotel, and sends the duo to explore Oxford Street while he phones his doctor-friend Bikash for leads.
Topshe and Jatayu brave the “ocean of humanity” at Oxford Street, visit Selfridges, and Jatayu buys a fountain pen before they have tea and return.
Feluda learns of an elderly Bengali doctor, Nishanath Sen, who may know the client’s family, briefly meets him, and schedules a proper visit to his Richmond home the next morning via the Underground.

They learn Ranjan is now a chartered accountant, implying his UK education didn’t carry over in India; after coffee with Sen and his wife Emily, the trio head back from the station.
1. Investigation at Warrendale School (Epping):
Feluda, Topshe, and Jatayu travel to Epping and visit Warrendale School.
Their goal is to verify whether Ranjan Majumdar was a student there in the late 1940s, and whether Peter Dexter studied in the same class.
Mr. Manning, a school official, checks the old registers.
He confirms that R. Majumdar was indeed a student in 1948, but no Peter Dexter was listed either in 1948 or 1949.
This means Peter Dexter’s connection to Ranjan could not be established here.
2. Next Step in the Investigation:
Feluda decides that Cambridge records may reveal more about Peter Dexter.
He also suggests publishing an advertisement in the Times personal column, asking if anyone has information about Peter Dexter of Norfolk.
His reasoning: an ad might bring personal details which formal records cannot provide.
Chapter 8
1. The Advertisement and Mr. Archibald Cripps
Two days later (Sunday), Feluda’s advertisement about Peter Dexter appears in The Times.
The very next morning, a man named Archibald Cripps calls Feluda, saying he has information.
He arrives soon after: rough voice, rude personality, racist views.
Cripps reveals:
Peter Dexter died long ago in Cambridge while boating on the River Cam.
He drowned because he could not swim.
The Dexter family had five brothers and two sisters.
He knows only about George (army officer who went to India after Independence) and Reginald (living in India on a tea estate, but fatally ill with cancer).
Cripps offends Feluda with racist remarks about Indians. Feluda firmly dismisses him, but extracts the critical clue that Peter Dexter indeed studied at Cambridge and died in a boating accident.
2. Journey to Cambridge
Since time is short (they will return to India in two days), the team sets off for Cambridge the same afternoon.
Cambridge is depicted as a beautiful university town filled with colleges.
At Trinity College (where Ranjan Majumdar studied in 1951), records confirm that Ranjan and Peter Dexter were classmates.
3. Interview with Mr. Hookins, the Old Gardener
A college official, Mr. Taylor, cannot help much since he joined only seven years ago. He refers them to Hookins, an old gardener who has worked there for forty years.
Hookins is over sixty, still active, and has a friendly relationship with students.
When Feluda asks about accidents on the River Cam, Hookins remembers:
A tragic case where an English student drowned in a capsized boat.
The boy didn’t know how to swim.
He dimly recalls that maybe another person was with him in the boat.
He thinks the English boy might have had an Indian friend.
But he cannot clearly remember whether the Indian student was also in the boat.
Hookins says he didn’t see the accident start; only heard cries of “Help! Help!” and rushed to the riverside.
He cannot confirm beyond doubt if another student drowned with Peter Dexter. He apologizes—his memory is blurred as this was the same day as his wedding, which is why the event stuck in his mind.
Chapter 9
1. Testimony of Satyanathan (Ranjan and Peter’s Classmate)
Feluda and team meet Mr. Satyanathan, a classmate of Ranjan Majumdar and Peter Dexter at Cambridge.
He confirms:
Ranjan and Peter were best friends, though they often quarreled.
Peter despised Indians generally but accepted Ranjan since he “looked half-English.”
He himself often suffered racial abuse from Peter (called him a “dirty n****r”).
The boating accident:
It happened on the day before Whitsun Sunday.
Peter and Ranjan were together in the boat.
Ranjan jumped into the water to save Peter but could not.
Peter’s younger brother Reginald Dexter also tried unsuccessfully.
Reginald spread the allegation that Ranjan deliberately let Peter drown, but most dismissed him as biased because of his racist hatred for Indians.
Ranjan left Cambridge soon after a bicycle accident and returned to India.
2. Feluda’s Suspicion and Second Visit to Hookins
Feluda feels uneasy: Hookins (the gardener) probably concealed facts earlier.
They visit Hookins at his home.
Feluda’s questioning corners Hookins. Initially evasive, he finally confesses the truth:
Peter and Ranjan were arguing fiercely in the boat.
Peter attacked Ranjan.
Ranjan, holding the oar, struck Peter.
Peter lost consciousness and fell into the water.
Ranjan only pretended to rescue him — in reality, he caused Peter’s death.
Hookins lied at the inquest to protect Ranjan, testifying it was an accident.
Reginald, however, told the truth, but his testimony was disbelieved because of his open racism toward Indians.
Official verdict: Death by accident.
3. The Telegram
Back in London, Feluda receives a telegram from Ranjan Majumdar, stating:
“Can recall everything. Return immediately.”
Meaning: Ranjan’s lost memory is now recovered — he remembers being responsible for Peter’s death.
This sets up a tense return to India.
4. The Twist in Calcutta
On their return, they discover a shock:
Ranjan Majumdar has been murdered that very morning by an unknown English visitor.
Next morning’s newspaper carries another news:
In a hotel on Sudder Street, an Englishman named Reginald Dexter was found dead, apparently by suicide with a revolver.

গল্পের নাম শুনেই বোঝা যায় এবারে তিন মূর্তির অভিযান সুদূর লন্ডনে, অবশ্যই কাজের সূত্রে। রঞ্জন মজুমদার নামের এক ব্যক্তি তাঁর জীবনের ৫-৭ বছরের স্মৃতি হারিয়ে ফেলায়, জীবনের অনেক কিছুই আবছা হয়ে যায়। একটি ছেলের সাথে পুরোনো ছবি আর কিছু ঝাপসা স্মৃতি তাঁকে তাড়িয়ে বেড়ায়। তখন তিনি স্মরণাপন্ন হন ফেলুদার।without any information শুধু একটা ফটো সঙ্গে নিয়ে সেই ছেলেটির পরিচয়- বৃত্তান্ত জানতে ফেলুদা লন্ডন পর্যন্ত যায়, শেষপর্যন্ত অবশ্য কেঁচো খুঁড়তে কেউটে বেড়িয়ে আসে।

Feluda was originally written by Satyajit Ray for the children’s magazine ‘Sandesh’. The popularity of the series was such that Ray went on to include a few adult themes in the later stories when he realized that even adults were enjoying the series.
I actually read Feluda before Agatha Christie and as such Feluda was my introduction to detective fiction. The best part of the stories is the evergreen manner of Ray’s narrative. I remember reading ‘Baadhshahi Angti’ which was written in 1960s and when I visited Lucknow in 1990s, I could still recognize the places described in the book. The other thing that I loved about the series was that in every story we learned something new – be it about geometry or about telepathy.
Absolutely and irrevocably in love with Feluda and his adventures – forever a fan.

রঞ্জনবাবুর কাছে একটি ছবি আছে। সেই ছবি ছেলেটিকে তিনি চিনেন না। তাই ফেলুদাকে খুঁজে বের করতে বলেছেন। তার জন্য ফেলুদাদের লন্ডনে যাওয়া লাগলো। সেখানে গিয়ে জানতে পারলো ছবির ওই ছেলেটির নাম পিটার। রঞ্জনবাবুর সাথে একসাথে ক্যাম্ব্রিজে পড়েছিলো লন্ডনে। তার কিছুদিন পরেই রঞ্জনবাবুরা চলে আসে কলকাতায়। সেই কেম্ব্রিজ এর মালি হুকিনসকে জিজ্ঞারা করে বের হয়ে পরে আসল তথ্য। পিটার ভারতীয় বিদ্বেষি ছিলো। তাই রঞ্জন একদিন তাকে ক্যাম নদীর মাঝে নিয়ে গিয়ে আঘাত করে পানিতে ফেলে দেয়। সেখানেই পিটার এর মৃত্যু হয়। পিটার এর ছোট ভাই সেটা দেখে আর হুকিনসও দেখে। হুকিনস রঞ্জনকে বাঁচাতে চেয়েছিলো। তাই কাউকে কিছু বলেনি। কলকাতায় ফে���ত এসে জানা যায় যে রঞ্জনবাবু খুন হয়েছে। খুন করেছে পিটার এর ছোট ভাই।

All of Feluda's adventures are interesting and engaging, including this. But this was more like a short story rather than an adventure.
A Chartered Accountant(CA) brings an old photo of him and a boy to Feluda and asks him to find the identity of the boy as the CA had lost his memory of the period. Feluda goes to London to find the identity of the said boy. While he succeeds in what he is looking for there, in India something unexpected takes place with the CA.

এক দুর্ঘটনায় কয়েক বছরের স্মৃতি পুরোপুরি হারিয়ে ফেলেন রঞ্জন। ওই সময়কার ঘটনা এক সময় আবছা আবছা ভাবে মনে পড়লে বাবা মাকে জিজ্ঞেস করে জেনে নিতেন৷ এখন চল্লিশ বছর পর পুরনো জিনিস ঘাটতে গিয়ে বেরিয়ে আসে একটা ছবি। ছবিতে নিজেকে চিনতে পারলেও। সাথে দাঁড়ানো ছেলেটাকে কিছুতেই মনে করতে পারছেন না রঞ্জন। বাবা মাও বেঁচে নেই যে জিজ্ঞাসা করতে পারবেন। তাই বাধ্য হয়ে ফেলুদার কাছে আসা। আর সেই ছেলের খোঁজে ফেলুদা লন্ডন যায়।

আক্সিডেন্টে জীবনের ৫-৭ বছরের স্মৃতি ভুলে যাওয়ায় একটি ছবিতে নিজের পাশে দাঁড়ানো এক ছেলের পরিচয় মনে করতে পারেন না রঞ্জন মজুমদার। ফেলুদাকে নিয়োগ দিলেন ছবির ছেলের পরিচয় বের করতে। তা খুজতে লন্ডনে হাজির হল ফেলুদা। বেরিয়ে এল এক চমকপ্রদ ঘটনা। ফেলুদার অন্যান্য গল্প থেকে এই গল্পটি একটু অন্যরকম, তাই পাঠকের ভাল লাগবে আশা করি।

Feluda reads like Enid Blyton now. So many pages of the story are spent touring London, and so less on the actual mystery, which turns out to mostly be a nothing burger. I thought this could get me started on my definite reading of the series, but it seems I have grown totally out of their appeal by now.

ছাঁচে ফেলে লেখা পড়তে পড়তে ভাবছিলাম এই সিরিজের ভাল লেখা আর পাবোনা, কিন্তু অনেকটা অবাক করে দিয়ে এই গল্পটা অনেক ভাল লেগে গেল। শুরু থেকেই রহস্যে মোড়া ছিল এবং কাহিনীটি অনেক জমজমাট ছিল শেষ পর্যন্ত। স্মৃতি নিয়ে লেখা গল্প বরাবরই ভাল লাগে, এও তার ব্যতিক্রম হয়নি।

ফেলুদা এবার ভারতবর্ষের বাইরে পা রাখল! গল্পটাও একদম জমজমাট ছিল। ফেলুদার অন্যান্য কেস থেকে এইবারের কেসটা একদমই আলাদা ছিল। আর লন্ডনের এদিক সেদিক ঘোরাঘুরির বর্ণনা পড়ে আমার অনেক লোভ লাগছিল লন্ডনে ঘুরতে যাবার!
