The Song of the Sirens

Rate this book
The first book in the Depth series—a fantasy full of immortal clans, forbidden love, and a war waiting to begin.

Exiled for a crime their mother committed—falling in love with a mortal—the Valenor sisters have spent their lives as outcasts, marked as Nomad Sirens in a realm ruled by ancient immortal clans.

When the High Immortal Gatekeeper is murdered and the passage between realms is left unguarded, Gabriella and Estelle are drawn onto opposite sides of fate. As monsters slip through the breach and lost magic returns, Gabriella must choose between upholding the laws that cast them out… or siding with her family that craves freedom.

Estelle isn’t just chasing danger—she’s falling for it. A dangerous connection to a rebel leader threatens to unravel everything she thought she knew about loyalty, love, and the price of freedom.

Told through dual points of view, The Song of the Sirens is an immersive forbidden-romance fantasy about sisterhood, rebellion, and the dangerous weight of legacy—perfect for readers who crave slow-burn love stories, morally grey characters, and epic battles that decide the fate of realms.

ARC READER ———— minor spoilers but not enough to spoil lol

Now listen I was EXCITED for this book since I seen it on tiktok. I had high expectations because the promotion by the author herself gave me goosebumps ! I really thought this would be a 5 star read. The plot and the characters seemed so goooddddd but it wasn’t executed well.

It was marketed as a dark adult fantasy it felt like a YA fantasy, there was nothing dark about this other than the random quick deaths that were supposed to have an impact but didn’t because the writing wasn’t good enough.

I do think that the next book could deffo be improved !! She just needs a better editor.

I’m not gonna lie, I can tell that taylah used the help of AI. Like a lot of AI. Maybe I’m wrong but the quality of the book felt hollow like it was created by AI. If this gets improved then the next book could potentially be much much better.

It’s a shame that I felt like this because I was excited 😔

It’s a typical booktok romantasy but even the romance aspect was so bad so maybe if there was no AI this coudve been good.

I unfortunately had to DNF this book, which I literally never do, as I just couldn’t get past the poor writing. Such a shame as I’ve been really looking forward to reading this book for months. For what is meant to be an adult book this reads like young YA, with short choppy sentences throughout. There’s also an unnecessary use of the (-), which makes me think that AI/chat GPT has had a hand in this book.

The characters and romance were underdeveloped, honestly it feels like all the tropes you could think of had been thrown in for the sake of it without adding anything at all to the actual plot.

The marketing was amazing but disappointingly it did not live up to the hype in the slightest.

Thank you Taylah for this e-arc!

I was SO excited for this book! I liked the premise of it — dual POV of two siren sisters who are drawn to opposite sides of fate, immortal war, rebellion, morally grey characters, and a world full of magical creatures — sirens, witches, vampires, shifters, faeries, and nymphs. I thought this novel had potential and some intriguing aspects, but ultimately it did fall flat for me.

I liked Estelle’s character and could relate to her at times, but I struggled to connect with the other characters. And I found the romances to be very underdeveloped. I know this was described as being perfect for readers who crave slow-burn romance, but unfortunately the romances/attractions felt very insta-love/insta-lusty, without any real depth, so I wasn’t invested in them.

This book is marketed as dark fantasy, however it read more YA, and the writing was not as succinct as I hoped it would be. I will say the ending of this book took me by surprise, which left me curious as to how things will play out in the next book — but unfortunately the majority of this novel didn’t deliver.

DNF @ 56%

I am so sad 😭 I wanted to love this. So so badly. But at 36% I was utterly bored. I decided to push past 50% and hoped that it picked up… but it just didn’t.

Here are some pros of the book before I mention why it was ultimately a DNF.

• This is a very unique idea and storyline
• The author did a fantastic job building a sisterly bond and showcasing how complex sibling relationships can be
• There are a lot of good “moments” between the main characters

Now for my issues with the book…

The story gave me the sense that it picked up in the middle of something bigger, which sometimes left me feeling like I was missing important context. I think a bit more background or setup would have really helped ground me in the world and the characters’ journeys. The world-building and some of the side characters also felt a little underdeveloped, which made it harder to fully connect. Even with the romance, I was hoping for more spark. Things like banter, tension, or those little moments of longing that make the chemistry leap off the page were just not there. With some added depth in those areas, this could have been an even more engaging read.

I think this author is extremely talented and with a little restructuring, this book could be something truly special.

Song of Sirens: MAJOR SPOILERS CONTAINED
Honestly, this was one of the best reads I’ve seen out of a first time author in a long time. That being said, it lacked depth for me, I wish I had more knowledge of the magic system, the hierarchy; in that I did not get where the real rift between the sisters was coming from apart from that it was stated early on that one wanted structure, and one rebellion based off their parents deaths long ago, there was no other buildup on that. I finished this book with no actual understanding of the magic system, bloodlines, or what makes higher mortal so special apart from being older than everyone else. I was also disappointed by the lack of detailing, there were so many scenes in the book that could’ve been so rich in depth and knowledge and understanding personal motive that just weren’t there. I finished the arc copy of this book expecting there to be another 20 chapters at least, to dive into real emotion and thought in what these characters were doing. Again, not a bad first book for a new author, but really lacked emotional depth for me. I did enjoy the cliffhanger at the end of the book, but there could’ve been so much more emotion written in to that scene. Why didn’t she see her sister from where she was looking down into the fountain of youth? I completely understand that this was a fantasy novel, but emotion is what makes a character sing and I wish there had been more of that.

I was so lucky to receive an arc of this debut novel and it did not disappoint! 🌊

I’ve always been fascinated by sirens so when I saw Taylah was writing a fantasy book with sirens as main characters I knew I had to read it.

Also, I cannot pick a team between Estelle and Gabriella! I love them both and I understand their respective choices… But the end…seriously??! Why did you do this to us? 😭 Hopefully there’s a sequel (please please please)!

It was wonderful to see the author’s writing journey and behind the scenes. Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us! 🩵🩵

This belongs on every romantasy lovers TBR.

What an adventure that I was not ready to leave, I need the next book.

This is that story that is well paced and will have you questioning which sister you side with the whole way because both of their views are valid and emotion filled. The world was unique and awe inspiring and has me wanting to learn more about each of the immortal clans, their roles in the current state of affairs, and how they plan to move forward.

This story is told in POV’s from siren sisters, Gabriella and Estelle, with one POV chapter from Harlen, the older brother.
I enjoyed the shift in emotions as I was taken back and forth between the siren sisters, opposites in every way.

Estelle is accepting of mortals and exiled immortals alike. She even runs a pub where everyone is welcome and safe, magically hidden from the immortal leaders. She is a rebel who despises the clans for exiling them due to their mother’s “crime” of falling in love and having children, and would happily see them all fall apart.

Gabriella believes in the clans, hoping to one day be accepted into one despite her exile. She is a rule follower and while she loves her siblings, she is blatantly against their ideas and rebellious behavior. She despises her mother for getting their family exiled.

Harlen is an extremely rare male siren who has fallen for a mortal woman he hopes to give immortality to-the exact crime their mother was exiled for- I’m wanting more of Harlen and Sienna in the next book.

A war is rising and everyone must choose sides. Will this be what divides the siblings?

WOW. That's all I can say, really 😍

This book is so beautifully written, i found myself in awe at how immersive and mesmerising the words were.

I'm already emotionally attached to all the characters, and so I'm excited to see what happens next 👀

And that ending? Excuuuuse me? I need 5-7 business days to digest what happened. Very few books can shock me like that, so I will need to be treated for whiplash 😅

Thank you again, Taylah, for choosing me as one of your ARC readers, I enjoyed this book SO much and can't wait to read all of your books to come 🥰

Swam all the way here from TikTok
So ready for this read 😍😍😍 🌊 🌊 🌊

**** EDIT ****
I read it 👀😍😭

Everything I knew it would be!
This book is everything I knew it would be!

Last year I lost my passion for reading after I
Started a very toxic job that just burnt me out, it was horrible to lose something I loved so much and I kept saying to myself I need to read again!

Well one day I was scrolling TikTok and I came across Taylah’s page and instead of scrolling on, something made me stop and stay and I’m so so very glad I did because this book reignited the fire I missed.

Siren’s are my favourite mythical legend and just hearing about this book had me gripped immediately, I was looking for any updates I could get about a release date but the ever so lovely Taylah let me be one of the lucky ones to ARC read her book.

Let me tell you, from the prologue alone, you’ll be gripped!
You can clearly tell so much love, passion and thought has gone into this book - every detail is so descriptive you can literally imagine yourself right there in the page with the characters.

Oh! The characters are so well thought out, full of personality, strength and fierceness, you really get the depth and understanding from their POV’s, you are in their mind and choices with them.

You meet multiple characters within this first book however unlike other books I have read where it becomes overwhelming, Taylah has done so well to keep the content smooth and readable, it keeps you gripped rather than feeling overwhelmed by too much happening where you cannot make sense of the contents BUT don’t get me wrong, so much happens within this book and OH MY GOSH!.

You won’t be able to resist the story of two sisters who each crave a different path.
It’s got all the good plots of rebelliousness, rule following, forbidden romance, many mythical fantasy creatures you will meet and obsess over.

Also The ending 👀

To wrap up let me just say you won’t be sorry you picked this book!
Enjoy your journey, I know I did!

Book 2 is ready now right? 😩 right? 🩵

Thank you Taylah for sharing your baby with us!
We will be here cheering you on!

I was beyond lucky to be selected to be an ARC reader for the Song of the Sirens and man, it didn’t disappoint!
This book was so beautifully written. It was engaging, captivating, immersive. How Taylah was able to incorporate all the different elements from the realms is beyond me. Each one introduced and given its own spotlight. The relationship between Estelle and Gabriella was addressed so thoughtfully and seeing them grow individually was breathtaking. Seeing them explore their forbidden feelings through what is right or wrong when it came to their life, mortals and men… I loved it, I inhaled it and I think it is going to stay with me for the longest time 🩵🩵🩵

The love and passion in which Taylah has put into this book can be felt throughout every word. They way in which she has introduced us to the world she has created, and the marketing - not only do I feel like I’m in the presence of a new upcoming author, a dark horse but someone who feels like a friend. Who wants us to enjoy every moment with her and it is truly inspiring 🩵🩵🩵

I can’t wait for release day and to support the Depth series with ever fibre of my being - it truly deserves it🩵🩵🩵

As soon as I saw the Arc sign up of The Song of the Sirens by Taylah Walker @tsots.official, I immediately signed up and to say I was excited and incredibly grateful to be accepted as an Arc reader would be an understatement. This is Taylah’s first book and holy crap she did an amazing job, it was absolutely brilliant and I loved every second even despite some heart breaks.
Her ability to capture both sister’s emotions and struggles as well as the choices they make was done so well and you couldn’t help but feel and understand them both in their fight for survival. We meet many characters through out the book some you love, some you hate and some you love to hate, but all working towards one goal: Power and survival
The world building whilst descriptive was also easy to follow and the magic system diverse. Also loved that even with multiple POVs, each chapter followed really well. I seriously can’t wait to read more.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!

This was EVERYTHING I look for in a fantasy. Sirens, vampires, witches, banshee's .. you name it, this book has it. Not only does it have numerous groups of creatures and clans, it is action packed and has a romantasy element to it also 😍

I devoured this book in less than 24hours. The writing style was impeccable, the world building was second to none, and this book has pulled me out of a reading slump to put the cherry on top!

GIMME BOOK 2 NOW 😍

Would give it a 6 stars if i could i absolutely loved it!!!

From the very first promo Taylah ever posted, I knew that I had to sign up for the ARC and wow, it did not disappoint. The way the promo images perfectly match the book’s vibes??? chef’s kiss >_<

I loved experiencing the story through both sisters’ perspectives, each on completely opposite sides of the war, and seeing the lengths they’d go to protect and support one another. It honestly made picking a side almost impossible because I could understand each of their feelings at different points in the story. That said… I’ve officially chosen Estelle as my fav(for now at least! ><).

The characters were all so distinct and memorable, and the setting? I can picture myself exploring the land of Asterra!
Also Taylah!!! With that ending you gave me I have so many questions, so you better hand me book 2 asap!!!

Big thank you to Taylah for the ARC, I am beyond grateful to get my hands on this before release! Thank you, thank you!! 🫶🩵

I finished this book and kept clicking my Kindle to turn the page… what do you mean that was the end? I’m not ready for it to be over. I want to stay. I want to keep flipping pages.

I absolutely loved the writing style, it's immersive, rich, and beautifully paced. Not once did I feel overloaded with information.

The world and lore are introduced seamlessly through the characters, making it easy to sink in and stay there. It flows and leaves you wanting more. You can tell so much love and time has gone into this book. And so much happens that I’m left wondering how Taylah managed to deliver it all in 416 pages!

The magic felt unique and fresh. It had similarities to magic and creatures we already know and love, while still adding it's own flare of originality. I loved seeing each being’s powers and capabilities and I still feel we’ve barely scratched the surface.

The lore and the very fabric of these worlds have so much depth; laws, clans, High Immortals, Immortals, Mortals, mythical creatures, and glimpses of culture. There’s rebellion and there’s order, but no clear path of right or wrong.

We follow three siblings who have been outcast by actions not of their own doing. While one sister longs for nothing but to belong, the other two siblings have carved something for themselves from the hand they’ve been dealt, the brother choosing to take what they want for love, the other sister putting everyone else first until she decides to act on her own ambitions.

I felt so drawn to Estelle from the beginning. She’s raw, she cares deeply for her siblings and for many others, and that shines through in her relationships.

Gabriella’s journey, as her long awaited dreams meet reality and start to unravel leading her to step into what shes meant for.

And Flora. FLOOORAAA! Oh my god, don’t. She was perfect. I liked her immediately. She’s a little ray of sunshine in a sea of storms.

This book gave me moments where I was grinning ear to ear, moments I gasped, and moments of I had tears streaming down my face and I couldn’t stop reading.

The ENDING?? 🫣 I can’t. What do you mean it’s over already? I need book two NOW. 🌊🌊

From the moment TSOTS first popped up on my FYP, I knew I had to read it. I’m beyond grateful to be one of the first to experience the start of what feels like an epic fantasy series. I’m honoured to be part of the journey and I absolutely cannot wait for more. 🫶🩵

What to expect:
• Sirens 🧜‍♀️
• Forbidden love
• Morally grey characters
• Mythical beings: shapeshifters, spellcasters, vampires, fae & more
• Immersive world building

ARC Review

The Song Of The Sirens

By: Taylah Walker

I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this amazing story.

This isn’t a story just about sirens but about two sister that have opposite points of views and different philosophies and believes ; strong vs logical.
We see both points of view to follow in the book.

✨There is an epic quest to find answers and solutions
✨Forbidden love stories that will torn your soul.
✨ Magical Creatures
✨ Political thinking
✨ Found Family

The message in the book is not just about the romance; is about community, equality, justice ; what is fair and what it would be ideal.

In a world where sometimes laws don’t make sense and are unfair, we should make the difference.

The author makes you think and also provides two ways of thinking.

I cannot wait for book 2 I finish and I want more, I need more!

I really hope the Phisical book includes a map, it is necessary to navigate Eryndor.

I had the absolute honour of being a ARC reader for the song of the siren.

This book has gotten me out of my reading slump I’ve had for the last month. Such a great story that just captures your attention. The world building makes sense and doesn’t get confusing. The characters are fantastic. I had a favourite from them start and then it ended up swapping part way through!

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone.

The ending cliff hanger has me desperately needing the next book!

The fact that this is Taylah’s debut novel blows my mind!
I’ll admit, within the first 5 chapters it felt like it was going to be a 5 star read for me. The character development, the world building, the pacing. It was all spot on for me. No notes. Well one… when’s the next book? 👀
The Song of the Sirens had me emotionally attached to the characters and what they were going through. I was holding my breath at times, laughing along with them and ultimately my heart broke for them. This was a book that I won’t ever forget and will definitely be reading again in the future!

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN??
5 🐚 🐚 🐚 🐚 🐚 across the board 🩵
I had the please of receiving an arc of The Song of The Sirens for and honest review. I finished this book soon after getting it and I loved it so much I had to reread it so I can know whether or not I actually loved it or because theres mermaids, Sirens and vampires OH MY! Nope I really do love this book, shocker I know 😂 If you like Sirens, mermaids, vamps and other immortals PLEASE please please add this to your tbr. Its gonna take you on quite the ride. In the best way possible.

There was a lot going on and it was easy to keep up with. I appreciated the fact that whenever someone or something new was introduced there was a thorough description and its own time to shine bright. Whenever there was a description as each detail was mentioned I could see it in my head fitting together like perfect pieces to a puzzle.

I didnt expect to get attached to certain characters let alone that quick and all I can say is.... FLORRRAAAAAAA!!

I can see the effort Miss Taylah has put into this book and I could tell by how well curated and spot on the promo videos were that this book was going to be a top book of the year for me. I hope this one gets a movie!! I NEED IT! Please and thank you.

I genuinely can't pick a side between Gabriella and Estelle. I have a sister and I saw both of us in each of the sisters so I could understand both.. but ma'am that ending??? 😫 why'd you do that to us?? I can't wait for the next book. The multi POV was a great choice in this book because it helps you see each ones thoughts feelings a perspective; Making the decision harder to pick a side.

I can't wait for release day so I can actually talk detailed about the book on tiktok @DPink 🩵

SOME OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES:

🐚 "This man would burn the world if it meant keeping me alive" 🌎🔥
🐚 "Don't be surprised, everyone's offended by everything these days. Even immortals"
🐚 "Love did not save her. It condemned her. I watched my sister choose it. And I watched the Clans destroy her for it"

***Edit****!!!

Omg omg omg!!!! I love this book so much, and I will provide a full review soon, but in the meantime, I have given it 5 🌟!!!

Thank you Taylah so much for the ARC, I didn't realise how much I needed a Fantasy/Romance story about Sirens until now I'm obsessed.

***Edit****!!!

“You’d destroy an entire realm… just to kiss me without consequences?”

“I’d destroy far more than that.”

Thank you so much to Taylah for providing me with the ARC for your debut novel I was completely utterly impressed and obsessed with your story!!!

I found Taylah on TikTok for the first time at the beginning of June 2025 and the way she described her story made me want to go and pick it up right then and there.

I have been excited every day since, and I have loved to watch her journey to releasing this story because I finally got to read it!!! And let me tell you guys... I finished this book within 2 days!!!

This story has it all: sirens, mermaids, Faeries, sorcerers, shapeshifter, and more! The characters are morally grey, and the focus is on the 2 sisters, Gabriella and Estelle, and told mostly from their points of view.

The plot twist shook me, and I could not believe I was blindsided 🤯 I was absolutely rendered speechless for 2 days, I needed to literally process it.

I absolutely loved Estelles' character from the beginning, but slowly, I warmed up to Gabi as well. They are sisters but have different perspectives on life and the world around them, as well as how the world should be. there is no wrong or right side to choose which is so rare to find in stories nowadays.
The world building is incredible and seamlessly blends and expands. I just wanted to dive deeper into the world and see more of it.

I am so happy this book is finally going to make it's debut and I hope so many more people pick it up and read it. I think I will have to listen to the audiobook as well once it's out.

I gave this book 5 stars, and I can't wait to hear what you guys think 🩵

Wow, Taylah Walker. Incredible.
I am so thankful to have been one of the lucky readers to be chosen to get an ARC copy.

"You sang in grief, and the Ocean answered"
Prepare for a title wave of emotions. These characters will win your heart and make you cheer for everyone and their journey.

Not only are they gearing up for war, they are trying to find meaning in who and what they are. Their roles in the fight and each others lives.

If you follow the author on TikTok you would have heard her talk about how each character chose their own path doing what they felt was the right decision. Can't explain it better than that. Other than with the words of one of the Siren Sisters " Where she was the sun, I was the storm- Two sides of the same wave."

I was engaged from the first chapter until the very last. You can feel the love and effort the Author put into her characters and their world.

Beautiful.

Happy Reading; Can't wait to watch you all fall involve with the song of the Sirens.

Firstly, thank you SO much for letting me have an ARC of this book, I feel incredibly lucky and privileged!

Secondly, wow, I’ve been following the hype on Tik Tok for the launch of this book and it did not disappoint me. I INHALED this book in a day😅

This world is so immersive, I found the description of the characters, the world and everything in between so beautifully written. Following both sisters journeys was fun as I have sisters myself and I feel like we have similar traits as we’re very different so I really enjoyed these storylines.

The mystery, politics, history, forbidden romance, pure fantasy was fantastic and different to what I’ve read before which was refreshing! My only little thing id like to have seen more of is the romance have more time to develop and maybe a little spice? But I know it’s book 1 so there’s plenty of time for that and I know I’m greedy! 😂

The ending has left me in a state of shock! What am I supposed to do now?! Talk about cliff hanger🙃😭

But overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I’m so excited to see how this story expands and how these characters develop. 🩵🐚
