“If ye want me gone, why do ye keep starin’ at my mouth like that?”Valora MacNeacail steps into the ballroom like prey—willing to be hunted if it means sparing her sister from the same fate. What she doesn't expect is to end the night, bound to a laird who smolders like sin… and claims to be her new husband.
Torrin Gunn came with one to spy on his enemy. But when he learns women are being sold—and his rival plans to take Valora—he acts on instinct, or possibly madness, and buys her first.
Now he’s stuck with a sharp-tongued bride who loathes him… and has no idea she was auctioned off.
He has ten days to convince her to say “I do.”
One bed. Zero touching − unless she asks.
Too bad their enemies are watching… and her “husband” is getting harder to resist.
Ten days, one vow, and a Highlander who swore not to touch her… unless she asked.

Fiona Faris is an American author of authentic historical Medieval & Scottish romance books. She started writing historical highlander romance after she visited the Scottish Highlands years ago with her husband.
Her books have received startling reviews about the humor, the darkness and the romance they have.
She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their two sons. Before she started writing romance, she experienced the various occupations: translator, dog-training, and a substitute English teacher for the most part of her life... However, nothing could ever compare to writing stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands!
I loved this book! Once again, Fiona spins an absolutely magical tale of the Scottish Highlands with the story of Torrin and Valora. They meet at a ball her father hosts to find her a husband to make an alliance for the clan. What she doesn’t know is that it’s actually an auction. Laird Keith wants her but it is Torrin, the Laird of Clan Gunn that will take her home, although not without a bit of trouble from Keith’s men. He did not go with the intent of bringing her home to be his bride but he refused to let a man like Keith get his hands on Valora. At first, she is very weary of Torrin but he gives her a choice, to give it some time to decide if she will marry him or not. The time that follows is filled with little adventures, moments of small pleasures and some tense moments of danger. Love blossoms between them but there are secrets that will cause a few tough moments. In the end, love will win the day and Valora agrees to marry Torrin. But Laird Keith will try one more time to get what he wants and Torrin will arrive in time to save Valora from Keith’s dastardly plan. The two get to have their happily after and I love how their story ends.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
In this next instalment of Tales of the Maxwell Lasses series Valora finds herself at a ball looking to get a husband on the orders of her father. Little did she know that she is actually being auctioned off, Laird Torrin is determined that she not fall into the hands of Laird Keith so he outbid him and bought Valora’s hand from her father. As they were preparing to leave the ball Valora was waiting for Torrin by the doors when she was grabbed by Laird Keith’s men and was pulled out the doors. As Torrin and his friend Noah approached the main doors they heard a woman’s screams and saw that Valora was being dragged away by Laird Keith’s men. Determined that they would not succeed Torrin and Noah sprang into action fighting Keith’s men until they took off or surrendered. He gave the last one a message to give to Laird Keith that they were now at war because of the attempt to kidnap his future wife. So with war looming and a purchased bride in tow Laird Torrin now had to face his council to explain his actions. This is a great book that will keep you enthralled till the end and one you don’t want to miss!! Cherie
Valora is taken to a highland ball by her father, as is the case with many other girls of age. There, she meets Laird Kieth who is disrespectful to her during a dance and Laird Gunn steps in to rescue her. Turns out to be more of an auction and Laird Gunn outbid everyone else for Valora. She must leave her home then, to go to her new home with her future husband. No saying goodbye to her sister, getting her belongings, nothing. That’s when things get interesting for a stubborn, opinionated highland girl..as well as her future husband.
Valora MacNeacail accepted her fate to keep her younger sister Althea safe. When her father told her it was either her or her sister she agreed to go to the ball. What she didn’t know was it was actually an auction to the highest bidder for the hand of young, virgin maidens. When Torrin Gunn outbid Laird Keith he knew it would be war. Can Torrin and Valora find love before it is too late? A nail bitter to the end!

Fiona has done it again. Wonderful believable characters. This is story itself is unique to me. I can’t believe they actually auctioned off their daughters! I loved this book so much I could hardly put it down.
This book is a lovely story of a rescue from a beastly Laird to another unknown but a kind Laird which is rare. It is one of my favorites of this series.
