Rate this book
She was born in a world of wonder, yet possessed none of it.

When an enigmatic enchanter appears with a promise — to awaken the magic buried deep within her — a journey begins, one that dances through light and shadow. Love and loss. Hope and ruin. A war brews on the horizon. Hearts will shatter.

And she must ask, “Can something so broken ever be whole again?”

Can insignificance become infinity?

OMG
I mean, wow. First of all I can't believe that this masterpiece was written by a 15 year old girl.

This was magical. In the start I felt like I was reading a fairytale book and then it turned into a proper Romantasy with action. It had everything I like in Romantasy Books.

And the characters, amazing. Everyone single one of them. I loved the FMC, she had a such strong and fierce personality.
I love the MMC so much. He was so in love and simp for her.
The Villain character was very heartbreaking and honestly in the end I didn't hate him.

Yes, there were some plot holes but honestly they aren't much of a big deal, you can ignore them.

I read it on KU.

Won’t rate it cz it’s got 5 ⭐️ and I feel bad. The description was over the top and I started skipping maybe if the character was like 14 and acting like that I would find it reasonable but idk, age was never mentioned so I couldn’t excuse it 💀 but the book could be someone’s cup of tea (younger audience) not mine…

ARC Review - When you were counting the stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

💗🗡️🐰✨

I loved this book! The writing was beautiful and the plot was great! I loved the names of all the characters! All of them were unique and fit the world the author created. The way the story was written kept me hooked.

Elyar was such an amazing FMC! She was written so well. She was strong, compassionate, sweet, and warm-hearted!
Keal was such a flirty and hot MMC! He was charming, but he also had so much depth to his character. The tension and the chemistry between them was chef’s kiss. 😘

Orthan’s love for his wife was so strong, and I could feel it through the pages. His grief was so powerful, and even though he was a side character, I felt his pain.

The way Keal decided to raise and be there for Thalen, Orthan’s son, was something I didn’t see coming, but I loved it! 🥺

The little pictures in the chapters were so cute and added so much to the book. They made each chapter feel special. Such a lovely touch that made it even more magical!

Overall, this book was such a beautiful romantasy, and I’d definitely recommend to everyone. 🤗

Hi, lets start with: this book was beautiful, the narrative, and its flow, and the fantasy world-building, just amazing. This is the perfect story for romantasy readers.

If you like the chemistry between MCs, this is your book; it has yearning (not liking or having a crush) beyond physical attraction; it has the trope "he fell first, but she fell harder." The type of love that is shown through the poets describing the inspiration behind his poem, the dancer feeling the song through the way their body moves, or the artists describing their need through their art, innate actions that were destined to be together.

I'm a sucker for this style of male MCs. Keal might seem like the MC that just hides the truth behind pretty words, but he proves his love by his actions, not only words; the words are just the result of his actions. This MC isn’t just here for the "I’m traumatized and hope to be loved," he decides to love first and persevere; there's a growth from the typical male MCs; he's more than the flirty type of male MC (that doesn't change that he's part of my book crush list, which this year has grown a lot).

Elyar's narrative is very interesting since, through the first half of the book, it's way of describing the situation at first is a way to compensate for the loss or absence of a part of her. On the second half of the book, her character growth is awesome through the book; she is no longer searching for approval or being praised by the world but to earn a place and her own power. I also love that she's not only kind but also unwavering on her convictions and her self-confidence without being stubborn (she's badass).

I liked the battles and fighting sequences, since it's hard to add fantastical powers to the actual actions within a battle, so well done. And how both of the MCs fight together and for each other makes their relationship show the love isn’t fickle or dependent on their emotional state.

I know this is going to sound weird, but I loved the main villain, the origin of his goal, and the choices he makes. It showcases that there are moments where pain and loss can make you want to burn down the world.

Since I don’t want to write any sort of spoilers, that's all that I'll say, but I believe that this is an amazing debut novel. Thank you, Divya Sree Dasagari, for sharing with me Elyar's story.

A 4.75 ⭐️ actually.
First of all, I loved this book! Why? Because why not! The way it’s written my- the descriptions, metaphors n all have my heart. Reading this book felt like living g in a fairy tale. The storyline and plot was on the point. Through out the book I shall garentee you, you can not get bored at all. The book hooks onto you from the very beginning!
Now talking about the MCs - Elyar, she is bold and confident and calm and composed at the same time.
Keal, Aahh his words! I might just get lost in those moments where he talks alone!
And, OMG!! Orthan!! He is definitely the show stealer in the entire book. His story and him!! God save me I’m falling in love! I want a man who loves his wife like that! Like Orthan. This is another example for- ‘I will always fall for the villain’

Why did I remove .25 ⭐️ - the book I personally felt was too long. The chapters were small and too many. As a reader who wants one chapter for one situation, the chapters felt too many, and personally methinks, the book could’ve had ended much quicker than too much exaggeration. But well it was definitely worth reading!
RECOMMENDED!!!!

The reason I signed up to be an ARC reader for this book is because I've been in a romantasy and fantasy book slump for over 2 years and I wanted to end it.
I absolutely loved this book. It was so good, I read 300 pages in a day. Every character, every detail, every scene, was magnificent. I fell in love with the Keal, the MMC and his love for Elyar, the FMC, my heart still flutters when I think about them. I'd loveee to say more but I might end up spoiling the book and I hate spoilers.
Divya Sree Dasagari, thank you, for saving me from my romantasy and fantasy book slump. I love your book so much and I look forward to more of your books.

This book took me to a world full of magic, where every constellation rewrites your destiny, with every lavender blooms hope and the serene moon hums lullaby.
Elyar (FMC) possesses a perfect mixture of grace and boldness. She knows how to bake and how to drive a blade right through the heart.
And Keal (MMC) who is he? Is he just an enchanter who loves to find new excuses to kiss Elyar Or their is something more to it? (Ofc not gonna spoil the plot ;) )
Loved the vibe and THE villain .

This book was the best fantasy book I have read so far. I never had a crush on a fictional male character and I even use to thought that how do girls get a crush on male characters who doesn't even exist but you gave me every reason to love Keal Amber Ravenholt.
I giggled, cried, kept the book aside after a cute scene imagining it. This book made me feel all the emotions. And after every chapter Keal gave a new reason to love him.
I am also working on my debut novel and I am proud to say that you are my inspiration Sree. I am 15 currently. And you have became one of my favorite author. Can't wait to read your second book.

I just finished this book or should I say this book finished me?
This book was a perfect read for me nobody would be able to say that this was written by sree at the age of 15 and is her first self published novel.
This story follows Elyar our sweet loving protagonist with lavender eyes peacock blue hairs but she always felt different cause she doesn't have the powers everyone else seems to possess. There comes keal our MMC who comes out of nowhere one day and introduces himself as an enchanter and wishes to help elyar but is there story this simple? There's a lot more that unfolds as we read through the novel.
The first half part of the book is from the author's pov setting every plot, characters, surroundings and mysteries perfectly. The rest are dual pov which is perfect as we get too know the thought of the characters.
One of the books strengths is in uniqueness as we know how in every story there is a villain and there's a hero but how many fantasy books are there which gave even the villain a perfect ending cause villains are not born but made. But this did. It did the perfect justice of each one of its characters.
The only reason why it's not a 5 star is because it took me some time to get invested in the story during the 1st part and it took me time understanding the names and place set but didn't that happen with every fantasy book we read?
Overall I would say it's a must read from my side.

When You Were Counting the Stars by Divya Sree Dasagari....it was an enjoyable fantasy read with a well-built world and interesting characters. The plot follows Elyar, a girl who feels different because she doesn’t have magic, and Keal, an Enchanter who offers to help her. As the story unfolds, there are twists, shifting perspectives, and a good balance between action and emotional moments.

I liked how the author gave attention to side characters as well, making them feel important to the story. The worldbuilding took me a little time to get into, but once I did, it was easy to follow. The writing style is clear, and for a debut novel written at 15, it’s quite impressive. I am really so shocked that it was one of best read for me !!!

Overall, it’s a solid fantasy romance with unique elements that make it worth picking up. And I'm pretty sure, everyone who'll read this book are going to love it so much 🫶🏻❤️

"'When You Were Counting The Stars' left me utterly breathless! 🥹❤️ Keal and Elyar's story is etched in my heart forever. The way the author masterfully wove the narrative had me completely immersed, like I was living the story alongside the characters. I devoured every word, and now that I've finished it, the ache of missing them is almost unbearable 🤌😭✨️. My heart still resonates with the pain and joy they experienced, and those war scenes? I'm still reeling from the emotional impact 🥹🩷. If you're looking for a story that'll capture your soul, look no further. This book is a masterpiece that will leave you spellbound and yearning for more. Trust me, you won't regret it!"

“When You Were Counting the Stars” totally hooked me from page one.
Elyar’s world of magic and hidden curses is so vivid, almost feel the moonlight on my skin. Her awkward first meeting with Keal had me swooning.
Yes, some background bits drag a bit, but the fast growing bond and secrets kept me turning pages.
If you’re into fantasy with a brave girl finding her power and a dash of romance,
this book is a must‑read. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

✨ When You Were Counting The Stars ✨
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5.

Okay, I’m still not over how beautiful this book was 😭💫 The fact that it’s written by someone who’s just 15 years old literally blew my mind. The writing is so magical and full of imagination, you can see every scene like a movie! From enchanted forests and glowing creatures to all those little magical details, everything feels alive.

Elyar, completely stole my heart 🩵 She’s not the “perfect” fantasy heroine like , She feels lost and invisible sometimes, but that’s what makes her so real. Her emotions like fear, curiosity, wonder are written in such a genuine way that you actually feel them with her. I loved how she slowly grows through the story, holding onto hope even when everything feels uncertain.

And then there’s Keal 😭🔥 mysterious, protective, and just the right mix of charm and depth. The chemistry between him and Elyar was chef’s kiss! Their bond builds so naturally like it’s slow, sweet, and emotional. Also, characters like Lyanna and others added such beautiful layers to the story; every one of them felt like they belonged to this world.

The first half sets up the story and introduces everything , the world, the plot, and the mysteries. Then the later parts dive deeper into the emotions and thoughts of the characters. I love when a story lets you see different perspectives.it makes everything hit harder.

One thing I found really cool was how the author didn’t just focus on the hero side of things. Even the villain had a story, an ending that made sense. Like, not every villain is born evil, some are made, and that message stayed with me for long after finishing.

The only small thing was , it took me a little time to get into it in the beginning and remember all the names and places 😅 but honestly, that happens with every fantasy book, right? Once I got into the flow, I couldn’t stop reading.

Overall, this book felt like a mix of magic, emotions, and self-discovery 💖 It’s written with so much heart that you almost forget it’s the author’s first novel. I’d totally call it a must-read for anyone who loves fantasy ✨.

Here's the deal, you're someone new to book readings and are interested in romance and fantasy. Then you should just read this book. This was not just a book but an experience . Like the background and the surrounding stage is so clearly and neatly narrated as if it was telling us to live in the moment and watch the story unfold . Elyar Starhaven , the female lead is beautifully narrated , and she is also too relatable for some. And then Keal. No spoilers here so he's one of the most perfect male leads. He is misunderstood. By someone he holds close to his heart. But yet his love for them is unwavering . This story is an emotional rollercoaster , from happy moments to teary-sad moments. You'll get a taste of all kinds of emotions. And also it's recommended that you slowly read this and not just binge read it in a day or two as it will truly hit only when you put your soul and time in it and slowly live every moment and read it . Even though the author is just a mere 16 , it didn't put a stop to her dream of publishing her story and being a writer. Her life alone gives more inspiration than a motivational speech could ever. And also the artwork is crazy good in this. It almost looks professional. This is that slow-burn kinda story that'll surely keep you hooked on for the upcoming story. Hope this story gets a sequel soon. And also not to forget about THE MAN Orthan. He gives you the vibes no other villain could give you. He's one of the best written characters in the story too. Overall , this story has really been an exceptional experience. I think the review is getting too long so yeah I'll conclude it. So long story short this is one of the never missable stories that you rarely find. You'll find this more relatable as the author is 16 which is a very connectable thing. So definitely read this.

"ʜᴇ ꜱᴀᴡ ʜᴇʀ ʟɪᴋᴇ ꜱʜᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴀ ꜱᴛᴀʀ, ɴᴏᴛ ᴀ ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ."

This book feels like falling into a dream you don’t want to wake up from. Set in the magical world of Crysdom, it follows Elyar - a sweet, curious girl who feels ordinary in a land full of magic. When she meets Keal, a mysterious enchanter who promises to help her discover her hidden powers, her life begins to change in ways she never imagined. If this plot doesn't hook you up to the book then I don't know what will because - I WAS TOTALLY HOOKED TO THIS BOOK!

The writing is poetic and soft, almost like starlight turned into words (sorry for the dramatics🫣, but I can't just help it hehe). Every line feels calm, beautiful, and emotional. It would make you feel like you are in a dreamy movie set!The story gives off strong “gentle fantasy + slow-burn magic romance” vibes - something between ACOTAR and a classic fairytale, but with its own fresh charm. I tell you all fantasy lovers, you are going to devour this book!

What I loved most is how the book makes you feel seen - it’s about finding your worth, your light, and believing that you matter even when you feel small.

If you love magical worlds, emotional storytelling, and characters that stay with you, this one’s a cozy, heart-touching read and If your comfort playlist is Lana Del Rey + fairytales, you NEED this book. And lastly, I have to admit Shree, this book was so good that it didn't feel like you were only 15 when you wrote it! It's so damn goooood!!!👉👈 Also, can we talk about those cute illustrations at the beginning of each chapter?! - it's a delight to the eyes!🙈

when you were counting the stars was a magical book.
author is perfect and great explanation
offers a charming, introspective look at first love through the eyes of its teenage protagonist, an aspiring author navigating the drama of high school and the complexities of her own fictional world colliding with reality. The premise is unique, exploring themes of creativity, vulnerability, and the universal desire to write one's own happy ending.
The novel's strength lies in its authentic characterization. The protagonist is relatable, a character with depth, aspirations, and insecurities that feel genuine for her age. Her internal monologues, often focused on her writing process and how real-life events inspire her work, provide compelling insight into her mindset and development. The romance itself is sweet and filled with playful banter, though the central conflict sometimes relies on easily resolvable miscommunication, a common YA trope.
The writing style is fluid and engaging, making it a quick and cozy read. However, some readers might find the pacing a bit slow in certain sections, with a few subplots feeling less developed than the central romance. Overall, this book is a heartwarming escape, perfect for those who enjoy character-driven stories and the "author" trope. It's a sweet, feel-good read that will appeal to fans of contemporary YA romance and aspiring writers alike.

!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Bro this book felt like someone grabbed fantasy, romance, panic attack, magic, hot guy, cute bunny and said "ok lets MIX EVERYTHING." and honestly??? it works.

Elyar is literally the cutest confused girl ever. half the time she's like "what is happening" and SAME girl. And then Keal shows up looking like he walked out of pinterest with his grey eyes and sharp jaw and "starling" voice and i'm like pls sir calm down some of us are stilll single.

lyanna is the older sister who acts like she knows everything but also cries suddenly and u just wanna wrap her up like a burrito. LOVE her!!

then we got the duke of halthrone being all mysterious behind his mask like he's ruunning a fantasy version of a kpop group. man didn't even show up yet and ppl already simping

and don't even get me STARTED on the wolves scene. I was reading like "girl RUNNN" and then "girl STOP RUNNING U GONNA FALL." somehow she does the both.

the worldbuilding is so pretty i swear i could smell the strawberries and see the shiny everdawn trees and the glowing lake like someone put a filter over the whole place.
Overall the book feels like a fever dream but the aesthetic kind, magical, romantic, dramatic and lowkey adorable.

I would definitely get lost in that forest again. 10/10

When You Were Counting The Stars by Divya Sree Dasagari is a romantasy novel set in the enchanting Everdawn Glade, where Elyar Starhaven — a girl born powerless in a world full of magic — believes she is truly a magidull.
Her life takes a turn when she meets a striking lad, Keal, and their journey unfolds through cute banter, silly taunts, soft romance, and tragic wars.
The true magic of this book lies in its writing — poetic, alive, and filled with soul.
For anyone looking for a fantasy novel to fall in love with, When You Were Counting The Stars is the perfect place to start.

The parts I loved are endless. It’s refreshing to see a female main character who is not only feminine but also fierce. The number of times I smiled and screamed at their cuteness is more than the stars Elyar counted. 💖😭

Don’t forget to feed your love to Carro with some carrots! 🥕

"When We Were Counting the Stars" by teenage author Dasagari Divya Sree offers a refreshingly sincere look at youthful introspection and emotion. The title itself suggests a charming narrative focused on simple, profound moments, likely exploring themes of friendship, dreams, and the bittersweet journey of growing up. Divya Sree shows commendable promise, weaving relatable experiences with a unique, emerging voice. While perhaps showing signs of an author finding her footing—which is expected and celebrated in a debut—the book's strength lies in its authenticity and heartfelt storytelling. It's a wonderful, must-read testament to the power of young authors capturing the complexity of their generation. We eagerly anticipate what this talented author creates next............

"As much as I hate the stars"
I was an ARC reader for this book, and I loved it so so much!
I am not a huge fantasy reader, fantasy books are really hard for me to get into—especially romantasies, but I am glad to say that I loved this book from the very first page.
The doodles were so adorable, and the poetry at the start of each part!
I loved how Elyar was bold and had a sense of self-respect, unlike many other FMCs.
And Keal... I have no words.
I loved this book very very much! Would reccomend!
