Summer Star tells the story of when Dylan, lead singer of rock band Blue Phoenix, met Sky, a regular girl trying to escape from a bad break up.
They literally crash in to each other one day, down a country lane. Both running away from life, and straight in to each other.
This time we get the beginning of Summer Sky from Dylan's POV.
When I first read Summer Sky, the first Blue Phoenix story, and where it all began. My favorite parts had been when Dylan and Sky first met. I loved how they came to be at the cottage at the same time. Those first scenes where they were getting to know each other were the best. Everything was all quiet crushing, and learning about each other, perhaps finding themselves at the same time.
"Every funny thing you say, every time you blush, even just being in the same room fills me with an unexpected urge to kiss you. I don't understand, because this isn't what I want."
They say you can never really get the feeling back, of reading a book for the first time. With Summer Star, it kind of felt like I was. It was like reading a different book, but also one I love, I already loved the characters and the story, but it felt new and different.
"When you look at me the way you do, I love and hate it at the same time. When you don't look at me the way I want you to, that's even worse."
Dylan's POV is so different from when we read it in Sky's POV. Dylan is a Rock God and desired by millions all over the world. When he meets Sky, he isn't in an entirely good place. He is battling inner demons, and needs to be as far from the world of Blue Phoenix as he can get. We get to be inside rock god Dylan Morgan's head, as he is blown away by beautiful, and unique Sky. Hearing his reactions and thoughts was awesome. You can even see his transition from the man he was when he crashed in to Sky, to whom he becomes after spending a few days, with the girl who slowly steals his heart.
"Summer Sky, you're not who I want; you're who I need right now."
Again, this POV shows just how versatile author Lisa Swallow can be. Reverse POV's never usually grab my attention, but she made it feel like reading a whole new story. It was gripping, funny, and started my addiction to Dylan Morgan all over again. I'll never tire of anything that comes out of the Blue Phoenix world.

Summer star is book #1.5 in the Blue Phoenix Series and is the retelling of Summer Sky from Dylan’s POV. I’ve been converted to male POV books and this one has again reaffirmed why they are so good.
Dylan is a conceited, obnoxious arsehole but I absolutely adore him!!!
Some of his thoughts and actions in this book should make you hate him, yet instead I think they make him more likeable.
I could feel the despair and misery his rock star life was causing him and I just wanted to reach into the book and hug him!
I love Dylan and sky together, they bounce off each other and the banter they have reminds me of two teenagers. Their relationship is simplistic yet incredibly complicated and deep.
It was so lovely to see Dylan’s desire for Sky, all those times he just seemed like a dick in Sumner Sky was actually him trying to prove he was a good person.
Poor Dylan is broken and weary but Sky doesn’t take any shit from him. Seeing Sky’s one liners and jabs at Dylan from his perspective actually make them even funnier.
This book makes me want to reread Falling Sky just to convince myself they really do get a happily ever after.
Summer Sky felt youthful and innocent but Summer Star has a much darker undertone. I suppose because Dylan’s world is a much more intense, darker place and this really comes through in Dylan whenever he interacts with the band or management.
All of Dylan’s behaviour somehow seems justified though perhaps a little selfish at times. Even though I knew how this ended I was still rooting for them to be ok lol
Summer Star is the perfect companion novel for the series, I loved it.

Loved Dylan's POV, I thoroughly recommend this series ...
I absolutely loved the Blue Phoenix books …. All of them in the series so far. This novella takes us on a journey through the first parts of the first book Summer Sky and it’s written from Dylan Morgan’s point of view.
Dylan Morgan (Rock God) and lead singer for the Rock band Blue Phoenix is arrogant, tattooed, egotistical and fighting with his ideals and beliefs. His brain is fried and he needs time away from the rock star life, so he retreats to his childhood holiday place. There he meets the smart mouthed and insecure Sky who is very hot and cold with Dylan from the time they meet.
Sky believes that their “relationship” can be nothing more than just a “holiday romance” and so we see this view now from Dylan’s POV and how he thinks regarding his initial relationship with Sky. I won’t go into too much detail because if you are a fan of this series of books, this is a must read and I don’t want to spoil it.
I loved this novella, it really helps me understand Dylan a little more and I see beyond the persona he wants to portray and behind the Dylan that he really is or wants to be. I am looking forward to more books from Lisa soon and as always I give this book a five-star rating.

Hate to be a buzz kill but I found this book really boring! It was just a big repeat of the first book (which I loved). They were together so often the story didn't really have any additional elements. Would recommend skipping this one and going straight to the second.

What did I like? I am not a huge fan of cliffhangers but lucky for me I had all the books before I started so I was able to read right though all of Sky and Dylan’s stories. It was interesting to read the first book again from Dylan’s point of view and believed when I say that this does read fast so you can jump into the next book. I really enjoyed these two and loved the action and mystery that built up in the storyline. The characters are fully developed and really enjoy life as you will find. If curse words offend you then this is not a series you want to read but if you are tuned to real life then go for it.
What will you like? Interesting and complicated people that have lives that none of us average people will be able to understand until you read these books. I know that life for them is hard and they go through so much but as you read the story you will see the turmoil and distress that some of them experience. Living life is complicated enough but to add fame to it makes it unbearable for some. This series gives you a good look at the other side of the pond and the people that make up the rich and famous. I received this from the author for an honest review with no other compensation.

Summer Star by Lisa Swallow
Summer Star is another look at the beginning of Sky and Dylan, this time from Dylan's POV. As was the original, this one is well written and absorbed me fully. I was mostly struck by how well Dylan was portrayed in Summer Sky, I really had gotten a good feel for his inner workings. It should lead in well to Falling Sky as that one swaps POVs.
Summer Star is another look at the beginning of Sky and Dylan, this time from Dylan's POV. As was the original, this one is well written and absorbed me fully. This was the first part of Summer Sky but told from Dylan's POV. I absolutely loved seeing his side. I already love the characters and story so it was nice to see it from another angle.

Oh, how I love the Blue Phoenix Series! Summer Star is told in Dylan's POV and can I say how much I LOVED IT! Lisa Swallow has such a special way of writing that it seemed like a whole new story!
Dylan Morgan is the lead singer of the famous rock band Blue Phoenix. He is tattooed and seriously arrogant. His brain is fried but it keeps fighting against his inner demons, so Dylan takes a break from his rock star life , cuts his hair off, and runs away to his childhood vacation place. There, he meets Sky and we find out from his POV of how he felt when she kept him at arms length as she labels it a "holiday romance".
I can't say enough how much I LOVE Summer Star. The story was so much more entertaining from Dylan's spoiled rock star view and that's saying a lot as I LOVED Summer Sky! It showed the evolution of Dylan coming back to reality and I came to understand him so much better. Actually, I fell in love with Dylan all over again. Do yourself a favor and read this series! As I tell her all the time, the next book CANNOT come out quickly enough!

Ever wanted to truly be in the head of a messed up rock star? Messed up when he's stone-cold sober, no less. I've read all of Ms Swallow's Blue Phoenix series and this one seriously gets you deep into Dylan's psyche. Not a nice place to be - even after you've seen the inside of Jem's head in Rising. But it's always the quiet ones you have to watch until they snap...
Yes, Dylan's a self-proclaimed dickhead. Narcissistic to a fault - the number of times he admired his own body made me wonder if he was into women at all. But somehow, Sky seems to hold his ticket back to reality...and Mr Rock God wants everything she can offer.
While the events are the same as those in Summer Sky, this book gives you a deeper understanding of the circumstances behind them. Even that legendary bacon sandwich that Sky (and I!) will never forget...I was shocked to discover that it almost didn't happen. As to why, well...luckily, I don't do spoilers, so you'll have to read this one for yourself.
Five stars. Now I need to go reread the rest of the series. You should, too.

Set in Wales (and I love the little Welsh references), this is a fantastic backstory to Dylan and Sky's romance told from Dylan's point of view. I love the reality Lisa Swallow managed to get into her arrogant male character - very impressive and very blokey - a spoilt rock star who really knows he is hot and ripped. It's lovely to see him evolving so quickly as he realises what he needs and tries to grasp the little bit of real world he finds in Sky before it slips through his fingers. What I really like about this book is getting the understanding of Dylan's anxiety and stress - the world of tension he's in before he does a runner from the recording studio. His worldliness shows through as well - he really knows when a girl likes him and is kind of bewildered when she doesn't fall at his feet. His arrogance actually makes you laugh out loud once or twice. Yes, it's a cliffhanger but breathe easy - the sequel is out and we get a very satisfying resolution. :) TIP: read Summer Sky first, then Summer Star, then Falling Sky. Love those Blue Phoenix rock boys!

This was a cute read but if you want to skip it and just continue on with the series then you won't really be missing much.

Dylan's turn to have his point of view, which honestly I enjoyed a lot more. His version as just more entertaining, "Sky danced around waving her hands and squealing every time a piece of seaweed brushes her leg. "Jesus, woman it's only a bit of plant!" He gives the best compliments, "I hope you're not doubting how effing gorgeous you are, Sky. I've spent a lot of time the last few days fantasizing about your t***." I liked how happy and carefree Dylan was with Sky, "I laugh at her strange admission and bury my face into her neck "I like all of you, can I see all.of you again later?" Can't wait to see what comes next from this author.

The Blue Phoenix series has fast become a favourite of mine, especially after Rising, Book #4 in the series!
Summer Star is told from Dylan Morgan's point of view, a companion novella to Summer Sky, and a joy to read! Lots of laugh out loud moments seeing moments happen from Dylan's perspective, and feeling his anxiety at being recognised.
As with Summer Sky, there were parts that broke my heart, but I really did enjoy experiencing Dylan and Sky's story from within his heart & mind.
If you loved Summer Sky, this is a gorgeous little novella that you must read with #ABaconSandwich! <3

I loved this book. Summer Star is Summer Sky through Dylan's POV. It's Summer and Dylan's relationship through Dylans's eyes. It was great to get into Dylan's head. Some of the scenes and dialogue are the same as in Summer Sky but it's in Dylan's perspective. I especially liked reading the first scene where Summer and Dylan meet through Dylan. It's not all the same. We also get to see what lead up to and cause him to take a break. It was great to see thing from Dylan's side and get more background on Dylan.

Summer Star is a great addition to the Blue Phoenix series. It helped me get to know the storyline from Dylan's perspective. It fills in the gaps and further propels my love for the Blue Phoenix series. The quick whit and banter between Sky and Dylan is laugh out loud funny, making my heart wrench for these characters as they progress through the story. Summer Star can be read anytime after Summer Sky. If you are a Blue Phoenix fan, this is a must read!

It was so neat to read this book right after the first one. I got to hear her side of things and then the same story, but his thoughts. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to my friends. Now....on to the next book of this series!!!

I did enjoy reading from Dylan's POV, though, I had hoped we would learn more from his perspective. We don't really learn anything new, but it was still a great read, and very well written.

April 27, 2017This ebook novella is basically the first story in the Blue Phoenix series, Summer Sky, retold from Dylan's point of view. I received this as a Bookbub freebie and so read it in the order it came in - after the second, Summer Falling. I wonder if this is a new trend, retelling exactly the same story from the point of view of another character. Of course, giving different points of view is an age old literary technique. This, however, reminded me a great deal of the Fifty Shades of Grey story told from Christian's point of view - not the story here, but the cut and paste feel to it. I didn't take the time to check, and of course, as it's shorter, it can't all be there, but my impression was that all the dialogue was there again - which, if this is what you're doing, makes sense. I'm not sure I really like it though - I'd rather that two points of view be represented in one book, rather than retread the same ground in this way. Perhaps if I'd been more enthusiastic about it in general, I would have be delighted to retrace my steps. I did enjoy parts of this, but it's not an all time favorite.
