Interesting magic system ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This first book in this series was a self-rec in a reader group on Facebook that feeds my gluttonous reading habit. I loved the cover and the concept seemed pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try.

MMC - I would describe as a balance between formal and sweet. More on that later.
MFC - Starts off a little snarky (which I never quite enjoy), but she evened out quickly and was a strong female lead.
Mild OW/OM drama, no love triangle
Pretty instalove/instalust, definitely not a slow burn.

What I liked:
~ Interesting magic system
~ Lovely descriptions of the setting
~ Good story and plot
~ Nice flow
~ No or very little grammar/spelling errors
~ 🌶️🌶️ ish

What didn’t work for me:
~ I need more world-building. I have no clue what world or time period this is set in, except for the obvious references to England.
- The MMC started off as rather priggish and the first smex scene was awkward as hell with him not knowing what to do. Then, he did a complete character 180° and became dominant and wanting to use chains? Wut?
~ The chemistry wasn’t really there for me. It was sweet - lots of ‘gentle touches’, ‘soft kisses’, and even a reference to the MMC having ‘soft hands’. Lord save me from a male lead with gentle kisses and priest hands. I like my guys a little more rough around the edges. But, that’s a personal preference.

All of that to say this; I enjoyed the story and it was a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read with an extra half star for the beautiful cover. If you like sweet romances with a cinnamon roll MMC then give this one a shot.
