“Do you even know what it means to be ruined, my lady?”
Evelyn has no interest in marriage. Not after her sister ran off with her betrothed. So, when her meddling mother tries to force her into one, she claims to have already been ruined.
By a dead man…
Except, Duke Robert is very much alive, and utterly furious to have his name dragged through the mud. But Evelyn proves to be the key to finding who is responsible for his parents’ death.
So he marries her, only to be consumed by thoughts of his wife, and how to make her blush next.

This was an awesome story! I loved the characters and hope to see more of the secondary characters in upcoming books in the series. Evelyn’s friends wear super supportive and each had quirky personalities that made the story even better. Evelyn is betrayed by her sister at the very beginning of the book, when she elopes with Evelyn’s intended. Robert, the Duke in the story, family was murdered when he was very young. He has spent years away from society seeking the ones who murdered them. Both Evelyn and Robert have sworn to never love and find themselves in a marriage of convenience. They also find that they can each help the other as they work together to solve the mystery of Robert’s families murder and Evelyn comes to understand his sister’s betrayal. While helping each other they realize they have fallen in love but neither one has the courage to tell the other. I highly recommend this book!!!
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
Robert and Evelyn had such great chemistry and their relationship from the very beginning was absolutely adorable.
I loved Robert’s first entrance to Evelyn and thought his foiling her plans were hilarious.
I enjoyed how feel good romance it was. Yes there was some drama but I enjoyed that it wasn’t too deep or overwhelming. Also that it wasn’t too much. It was just right, and kept the sweet romance through and through.
Evelyn’s team of best friends were my favorite side characters! I hope to read their stories at some point.
Evelyn is fire and ice. Her quick tongue can scorch with accuracy, and her beauty might cause one to become speechless. Robert is a Duke thought to be dead, only to reappear in society. With scandal as a catalyst, evil a few steps behind, and a marriage of convenience to boot, this story has a quick pace and lots of breathless stares and romantic moments. A terrific read!
As one might expect from a Regency romance, there is no overt passion. Character descriptions are by exception such as mentioning freckles. There is an expectation that the reader will be able to appreciate all that the hero, baddie etc should be, rather than describing them. The only thing that irritated me was the use of ‘Duchess’ to address Evelyn after her wedding. It should have been her/your Grace.
What a love story...so many emotions...please read this book!!!! I fell in love with the characters..the story line..just a true love story..A must read. A huge thanks to MS Wells for bringing such a delight to readers everywhere. Truly, I can't say enough...A MUST READ...YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!
This is the story of Evelyn and Robert, he was supposed to be dead. So she named him as the man who ruined her for marriage. When he finds out, he goes to her at a ball and claims her as his own. And things become interesting, and heated. Tempers flare , and mysteries solved. And an unexpected life becomes real. Thank you ❤️
An unsolved tragedy from long ago waits to be solved while Lady Evelyn trusts no man now, but has ties to the Duke & a marriage of under standing. Her despicable brother in law finally will get what he deserves & her sister will hopefully be free. And other family puzzles will be unwound with Love coming for the Duke & his Duchess!!
In trying to free herself from an arranged marriage Evelyn said she’d been compromised by someone she presumed was dead. Robert was very much alive and for reasons that are explained later in the book, and against Evelyn,s wishes, they were married. The story became more intriguing until a shocking conclusion and a happy ending.
Throughly enjoyed the story line.. charming cast of characters interfacing the, plot. Just enough suspense to keep you waiting for next page. I think you will enjoy the road through the book.
The description doesn't do justice to this book. There's so much more to the story as the plot thickens with each chapter. Be prepared for unexpected twists and turns as the characters true colors are exposed to the light of truth.
Robert had spent years seeking revenge and hoped marrying. Evelyn would aid him. But he got more than he bargained for, for love came along too. I enjoyed the story and the characters.
Well thought out, interesting, fun story with twists and turns. He lost everything to murderers; she gained everything through a fake scandal. Highly recommended for all readers.
Romance, mystery, murder. Dark deeds and a little of everything else. It wasn't just a love story. It was so much more. It told of murder and dark deeds. Of 2 sisters torn apart. Honestly I couldn't put it down, which resulted in going to bed at 2, tired but happy.
The storyline was very good and not just filled with repetitive words. The characters were depicted beautifully and they made the book interesting to read. However, I would like to have known what happened to her sister and her other relative’s relationships.
