⭐⭐️ - Not my cup of tea
I really wanted to enjoy this, especially knowing it’s from an indie author, but unfortunately it didn’t quite land for me.
The writing style often used short, abrupt sentences with few conjunctions, which at times made the flow feel a little disjointed. The dialogue, written in London slang, had personality, but sometimes it seemed to take up space without adding much to the story’s progression.
The opening could have been expanded to draw the reader in more fully, and I would have loved deeper, more vivid character descriptions to help me connect with them on an emotional level. As it stands, the characters - including the FMC - felt a bit distant and underdeveloped.
Overall, the book gave me the impression of being an early draft with potential; the structure is there, but it’s still waiting for those rich details and connections that make a story stick. The adverts that caught my attention highlighted glimpses of some potentially great moments, but they didn’t quite reflect the pacing and content of the full book.
I think with more fleshing out and refinement, this could really shine.
