A month has passed since Zane last saw Sherry, and in that time, his life has become filled with a restless emptiness. After surviving a dangerous and deceitful adventure, Zane is left craving more. He's begun questioning his own prejudices and rethinking long-held beliefs, a change that is slowly unravelling his daily life.
When Sherry finally reappears, it's under unexpected circumstances—she's been arrested by knights, and her execution is imminent. Faced with the harsh reality, Zane must make the difficult decision to abandon everything he's known in order to save her. But his bravery comes at a steep cost, one that leads him back to a place he swore he'd never return home.
As they flee together, Zane and Sherry find themselves pursued by a mysterious force intent on their capture. Along the way, they cross paths with Zane's old drinking buddies and attend a lavish ball, all without realizing the past that haunts them...or hunts them.

3.5 stars The Hunter's Prey is book two in the Broken Eyes series, and… there’s definitely been a glow-up.
The writing is so much better this time around. My main issue with book one was how everything felt like it dragged. So many expositions, every action broken down like it was part of a user manual. But here the prose tells you just enough and trusts you to fill in the rest. Love that for us.
Sherry is still the same endearingly chaotic menace we met in book one — I was on board with her mischief for most of the book, but something about the last 30%... idk. She started crossing the fine line between quirky and please stop being like that.
Zane, on the other hand? Get out of my head. His internal monologue in the first half was too relatable.
There are a few comedic scenes scattered through the book that genuinely made me laugh.
That moment, with Zane defending Sherry in front of his garbage friends was amazing. 10/10. no notes. I am such a sucker for the “defends her from his friends” trope and this one delivered.
The 80% mark: the plot takes a sudden sharp turn into dark territory, and it honestly threw me off. Yes, there was foreshadowing but the abuse and just general unpleasantness from a character who swoops in like a Final Boss didn’t work for me.

The broken eyes series is a hidden gem within the romantasy genre. I cannot recommend this series enough to anyone who loves dark romance, unique worlds and character driven stories.
For me, it's the cast of characters are what make Hunter's Prey so special. no one surface level. every single character is so exciting to learn about. even when I hated someone I was still dying to learn more about them, read more about them.
And the relationship between Zane and Sherri was perfect. such good banter, such good moments (especially at the end) ahhhh!!!
But it was the ending that made this five stars for me. I did NOT see that coming but it also made so much sense I was like of course!! The last bit of the book had me sweating, flipping the pages like crazy omg. Definitely one of the coolest / satisfying endings i've read in a while.

It's hard for a series to live up to the hype of book 1 but this series absolutely has outdone itself book 2 was just as captivating and I physically couldn't put this book down, like I would litteraly fall asleep reading because I didn't want to stop. Even with the dangers and betrayal i can't help always wanting to jump back into this world it's so comforting. Im not a slow burn girl but zanes reluctant pining and Sherry's naive curiosity is so addictive to read waiting to see who will go for it first, these two live in my head rent free. I love how complex the side characters all are without it being too much or taking away from the story and gives so much more tension to the quest that's usually going on. There is so much going on in this series and particularly book 2 that there's somthing to scratch every itch you have.
