Scott Wolfe #4

Wolfe Trap

Rate this book
Volume four of the ongoing Scott Wolfe Thriller Series.
Scott Wolfe, packed and ready to ship out to a CIA training facility, The Farm, is side tracked by a violent abduction—his own.

While Scott languishes in captivity, tortured for days and weakening by the minute, the CIA and the Department of Justice battle a hidden force within the government—a force that is, for unknown reasons, attempting to thwart the release of former CIA Operative, Mark Gaines.

When Scott's tech support, Story "Storc" Carson, uncovers a connection between the stealth payments and Government Officials, the scale and scope of the treason are revealed as being massive—alluding to a coming coup d'état, or worse.

As forces begin to muster in the escalation, Scott finds himself at the center of a trap. Unable to trust anyone, Scott Wolfe drives himself deeper into a secret war he is just starting to understand. How late is it?

S.L. Shelton

S.L. Shelton, a bestselling thriller author, is a passionate, fact spouting former techie and soldier who is constantly at odds with his need to kick the legs out from under those who abuse their power (Political, Economic or Super). He lives on a tiny little farm on the banks of a tiny little river in the northwestern part of Virginia, where his semi-secret identity is somewhat protected on three sides. Despite deep misgivings about writing on subjects close to his own life, he has penned a series of books about a similarly broken, similarly gifted young man who similarly doesn't have a clue when to stop and re-evaluate life decisions.

Before building his career in the computer field for nearly two decades as a developer, designer, trainer, and a CEO, he had the honor of serving in the US Armed Forces in several roles, most involving explosives of some sort. After selling his successful micro empire in 2011, Shelton retired to his study which he hasn't left since. On most days he writes, but when left alone and to his own devices, breaks his troll like existence long enough to sneak into the sunlight and fire a weapon or two, snap a few pictures or pick some vegetables from his wife's prized organic garden beds.

Though his climbing days are behind him due to injuries (several to the head), he was an avid rock climber, having climbed for decades since his teen years. His three children are grown and living very adventurous lives of their own.

Waking Wolfe is the first novel in the Scott Wolfe Series, followed by Unexpected Gaines, Danger Close, Wolfe Trap, Harbinger, Predator's Game and coming in 2017 Splinter Self. He has also published a Crime Novel and a Back Story Novella to the Scott Wolfe Series.

Scott Wolfe has become an official CIA agent and on his way to begin his training as an operative. He’s excited and eager to get started, but while waiting for transport, the sound of gunfire erupts and his colleague and friend, Nick collapses to the ground. So begins S.L. Shelton’s fourth installment of his Scott Wolfe series. If his readers think this is just a big bang to get things started, they’re only partially correct. This book takes off right from the beginning and there is scarcely a letdown in the whole of Shelton’s narrative.

S.L. Shelton knows how to keep a reader engaged. He has an amazing ability to move through his story dropping enticing tidbits (and bombshells) throughout. There are so many things happening and there's always something important being uncovered. He’s got the talent of intrigue perfected. This is incredibly frustrating for a reader…but in the most wonderful and delicious way. I've learned not to feel too strongly about circumstances or characters while reading, which is nearly impossible to achieve because Shelton is a master at creating characters who are so easy to like…and dislike. He has a habit of changing things up…making me rearrange how I feel about them. This is both exciting and infuriating…and how completely glorious that an author has the ability to do that to his readers. Not many writers do. S.L. Shelton does.

I’ve spent a good deal of time with Scott Wolfe in the recent months. He’s one of those guys that, once you meet him, you really want to keep hanging out with him, and he’s taken me on some hair-raising adventures. None so wild as this latest one. My advice to you, fellow readers? Buckle your seat belt, hold on tight and enjoy the ride. You have no idea what’s in store for you…but I can absolutely guarantee that you’re going to love it.

If you have read the first three novels in this series, then you know that Wolfe Trap will be a captivating read. If you have not read the first three, my only question would be "What are you waiting for?". S.L.Shelton has never failed to capture my attention and not let me go throughout the entire novel. Even the topics that I think I am not familiar with are handled in such a way that I am enthralled with the conversations. I don't feel as though I am reading a book, I feel like I am in the middle of the action. Once again I am not able to think of anything I wish he had done differently. The only thing I am disappointed at is that the book ends and I must wait for the next novel. Send the kids to Grandma's for the weekend, buy an extra copy for your partner, build a fire, open a bottle of wine and snuggle down for a GREAT read!

Wolfe Trap was a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. So much so that I ordered all of S.L. Shelton's other books. I won this on GoodReads and as I do most my wins I will be paying it forward by giving this great good to a friend. Thanks Mr. Shelton

This beeing my fourth five-star review for Mr. Shelton, you might assume I crush for the stories of this particular author. Well, this assumption is totally true!

He is just so damned capable of rising the tension even higher with each new continuation of the epic Scott Wolfe Saga, always spinning the story in new directions and adding other elements to the thrilling mix!

"Wolfe Trap" is no exception in that regard, as the battle between the ruthless forces deep embedded in various corporate and governmental entities and the CIA reaches its boiling point and Scott no longer knows who to trust.

I love the prospect of more from team Monkey Wrench & Gretel in the next novel "Harbinger" and can't wait to discover more of Kathrin's backstory! To bad I have to wait for some time now!

To be able to fully enjoy the complex plot, I highly recommend to read Scott's adventures in order, because otherwise you miss some peaces of one of the intriguing thriller puzzles in modern history! (No exaggeration here, I promise!)

Please hurry up with the next one S.L.!

First off, (for browsers) read the books in sequence! This is a serial and you can't appreciate it until you go in order!

Episode 4 is a great read, with the protagonist finally getting some alone time to fend for himself and see how he operates with his newly found skills. There is a good use of tech and a satisfying sub-mission by CIA instructors to find someone to finally match Scott's augmented abilities. The second personality angle clarified in book 3 gets a proper amount of page time and it's fun to see how the the now limited interaction affects Scott's path.

I am rounding up from a 4.5 if only because episode 3 was a SOLID 5 star read and this episode leaves the topic of Scott's father lying dead on the table - I was very much looking forward to learning more on that front. Onward to Episode 5...

Wolfe Trap will grab you from the first sentence and before you know it you’re on the last page.

The book is fast-paced and action packed. Follow the character Scott as he trains for the CIA. Things come to head and some mysteries surrounding Scott are revealed.

If you’ve followed the series you can see how the characters have developed under Mr. Shelton’s hand.

There aren’t enough words to justify what a great writer Mr. Shelton is. This is a series with movie written all over it. In my opinion, Scott Wolfe can give Jack Ryan a run for his money.

Wolfe Trap (Scott Wolfe #4)

Scott finds himself training at the "farm." Unknown to him, he is being dangled as "bait" to draw out those who want him interrogated and then turned or dead. Scott proves his capabilities beyond expected to everyone, but then everything goes to help in a handbasket. Hang on to your seat, things are going to get real interesting. Thanks for another great read.

Plot twists, intrigue, and action galore!

The plot thickens, and twists, as we learn more about Scott Wolfe, and so does he! But all the new answers only lead to more questions, all while keeping the reader in suspense. Whom to trust? And who will survive?

If you like 007 movies and Mission Impossible, you will love Scott Wolfe!
