Hmmm, I'm not sure what to say??
Well, I've got something to say but it's not wonderful.
I read my first R.J. Scott book last month and loved it!
I was eager to read another and was rather disappointed this time around. Hate it when that happens :(
The writing felt vastly different. Major housekeeping attention was in order and being a re-release I would have assumed fine tuning would take place before presenting it to the world again. I found this oversight odd.
I liked Finn and Niall. I enjoy opposite attract romances. I love cops, especially bossy cops. Should have been a win, win, win!
However, I don't like being told and lots of telling occurred here. I didn't feel we were given 'enough' to feel their connection. Or...at least, I didn't feel it. And it was way too fast.

Too short? I think so.
Dialogue could have been stronger? Yes.
Cleaner edit? For sure.
Potential there? Absolutely!

I am not writing Scott off my go to list, but I certainly hope my next read goes smoother.
*fingers crossed*

This was a short quick read that I liked and wished was longer. Finn Hallan is a member of the elite Norwegian Emergency Response Unit, code name Delta. When the team is sent to respond to a hostage situation on an Oil Platform, he has to face demons he thought he had buried a long time ago. Scottish engineer Niall Faulkner’s skills in oil platform decommissioning takes him to the Forseti platform at the worst possible time. When he’s captured by terrorists, his only thought is that he will never get to tell his lover how he really feels. This book was full of action. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

I did enjoy this book, but, for me, it seriously lacked substance because it was so short. Too much happened too quickly and there was a lot of emotions between the two MCs that we weren't able to see and experience, rather asked to assume. That didn't really work for me.

Fleshed out a bit, this could have been an excellent story, but at its current length it is merely a good story. Recommended for those military lovers who have to read everything military related.

Who knows, maybe we'll see more of Niall and Finn in the continuation of the series? I would welcome it!

Reviewed for Boy Meets Boy Reviews

This pains me more than anyone could know, and is my first one heart review since I started writing reviews with the unicorns. I like to think I can find at least one good thing about a story and run with it, but this was just a hot mess.

I hope with all my heart that this story has gone through another edit with a decent editor by the time it was released, because there are significant problems with this story that cannot be overlooked as anything but sloppy.

”All Finn did was chuckle, the bastard, then guide Finn back for more kissing while twisting his fingers and tugging on Niall”

Copying Finn’s movements he loosened the tight buttons on Finn’s jeans and finally managed to get his hands inside Niall’s pants.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m confused……..

I had to read the above out loud to my partner to make sure I wasn’t crazy, but the look I was given, provided me with my answer. This is not right.

I don’t like to be picky about grammar or spelling, because I know mistakes can and do happen, even with a million edits. But this is a waste of my time. I know writing is hard, but I think the basics of it should be that you get the characters right. This isn’t an accidental misspelling of a name. To me this is a draft copy, not something to be put on the market as finished work. I would be pissed if I paid money for this.

Feeling bitter about that wasn’t going to get me through the story so I laughed it off and continued…...

But it just got worse. After their first night together we are suddenly months into their relationship and this laziness continued. There was no relationship building, or plot building. I was supposed to swallow this conspiracy without any context, background, or build up. That doesn’t work for me. If a story is light on one thing, it better be descriptive and layered in other areas, and this was light on everything. I was not convinced that these two characters were a solid couple, or even a couple at all, and I certainly wasn’t convinced after the drama was over, and they were making their confessions. I didn’t care about either of them, and what would have made this story better, is if they all died.

Like I said above, this read like a first draft. All the ideas were jotted on the pages, but nothing was refined. I felt like my time was wasted, and the one shining point in all of the words was that it was over quickly. There is no way I would have finished this if it was longer.

I cannot recommend this story in it’s current form, and I’d urge readers to read other reviews before taking a chance, unless this goes through significant rewrites, edits and polishing.

An elite team of anti-terrorist specialists with a code name that demands respect? Check. Action-packed adventure with a side serving of love developing between men who would not normally consider each other as anything more than a one-night partner? Oh yes. And one of the most unusual settings I have ever found in gay romance—an oil platform about to be decommissioned? Put on your seat belts and get ready for one wild ride!

Finn is paid to be a hero. On call most of the time, he has been trained to be one of the best, and he is as proud of that as he is fierce when confronting the no-good lawbreakers who make his life, and that of all other men of the law, much harder than it should be. He is not the type for flowers and chocolate, and he has no interest in geeks, but when he meets Niall, somehow all those “rules” fly out the window. Not that he admits it at first, but when danger almost takes Niall from him, he realizes that some rules are there to be broken.

Niall, although he is a geeky engineer and thinks he is nothing special, is the real hero of the story for me. He overcomes his fears and manages to more than hold his own in a situation that would have most men give up. Honestly, what he manages to do, and how he keeps it together once the terrorists take over the platform is admirable. Shaking with fear the whole time, he still gets things done, and gets them done well.

If you like alpha men and the guys they fall for, if you enjoy unusual settings and spine-tingling action, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is hot, you will probably like this novella. It’s short, to the point, and an adventure I don’t think you’ll quickly forget.

Finn is smitten the very minute he casts his eyes over Niall. He didn't hear a owrd of Niall's presentation, Finn was just listening to his voice. Niall reacts similarly, upon their introduction. After several nights together, Niall is ready for more, but Finn isn't. Then Niall gets caught in the cross fire in a hostage situation, and Finn's team is sent to rescue him. Finn just needs to keep his head on straight to be able to tell Niall how he really feels.

A delicious short tale. Finn and Nial are well suited to each other, both in and out the bedroom, but Niall wants more and Finn doesn't. I loved that Niall found himself thinking what would Finn do, if held hostage, and that Niall clears his head enough to shout help.

It is short, just under an hour reading time for me, but I don't think it would have worked as a longer book. The author is clear and concise and get the point across, and that point is Finn needs to admit to himself, and to Niall, just how he really feels about him.

Very well written from both Finn and Niall's POV. I found no spelling errors, but at some points the names were in the wrong places, it should have said Finn but said Niall or vice versa. THIS is the only reason it gets 4 fangs and not 4.5. The other half came off for its shortness.

4 fangs.

Having never read RJ Scott before, it took me a short while to get into it, but as soon as I did, I was hooked.

Alpha, Delta is a short, quick read (I read it in one sitting) and even in that short amount of time I was hooked on the action. There is romance between the two men — however, if you are not a fan of M/M romance, obviously, don’t read this.

I like that RJ Scott seems to have an even focus on the romance vs. the action in this book. A lot of M/M “romance” or “erotica” simply focuses on the “forbidden” aspect of the genre, instead of having any actual plot or character development. And, again, for a short book, she did both of these well.

There’s not much I can summarize that isn’t already in the book description, though I will say that even if you know absolutely nothing about military bases or oil platforms… You’ll still understand the book and follow along. It’s not written for geniuses or idiots — another happy medium met.

I don’t know if it’s worth $2.99 (which is its price on allromanceebooks.com ) but if you like M/M romance (as I do), sexy Scotsmen (as I do), and well-written stories, then grab it.

I so need to read more of this authors books. As this is a short story I read it in one sitting.
Finn is part of a Special Forces team. He's a hot alpha male. As soon as he sets eyes on Niall he wants him. Niall is an engineer. When his life is in danger Finn will do anything to save and protect him. I love these two characters. I would have really liked this story to be longer so I could read more of these two as a couple.
If your looking for a quick m/m story then this could be the one for you.

Have to say I was slightly disappointed with this. The story itself was quite interesting and imaginative but the length meant that everything was rushed although I did like Finn's humour. What put me off the most however were the numerous editing/formatting errors, and that is certainly NOT typical of an RJ Scott story. Who cannot take the time nowadays to check that waste should have been waist?? Very poor ARe. 3 stars only I'm afraid, sorry RJ.

Original Blog Post: eARC Review Request: Alpha, Delta (ARe Alphas ) by R.J. Scott

My Rating: 4 of 4 Stars
(Based on Short&Light Read)

This was a really fast read and finished this in just one sitting. Yes, it was that fast and the story was super fast paced. Fortunately, this is written by RJ Scott so all the elements are present and accounted for: romance, erotica, men, gorgeous men, glasses, alpha men, and smaller men. Oh yes, there is the drama of the terrorist attack on an oil rig. Yes, this is trully a fantabulous story, but heck, it is one enjoyable read I just lost myself for an hour and came out grinning.

We have alpha male, Finn Hallan, an Englishman in Norway, working as an elite private soldier for an oil firm that needs highly advanced and learned security force men to protect their rigs in the high seas manned by highly trained employees that range from the nerd to the nerdier. This is where we see Niall Faulkner.

Niall is a Scott and he's gorgeous and a super nerd of an engineer whose job it is to make sure the decommissioning of a rig in the high seas go smoothly and eco-friendly. Oh, and secured. It was in a seminar where he gave a talk that he met this giant of a man, Finn, and their affair began.

It is a few months later and we see Niall off to decommission a rig when the terrorists come in and makes a dramatic, and highly dangerous, entrance. It is up to Niall to keep himself alive and communicate with home base. He has to stay alive, he wants to see Finn again and maybe ask him if they can take their relationship one step higher.

Finn finds himself a rescuer but his heart and mind are not focused. All he knows is that he does not do love, nor relationships, but the thought of losing Niall nearly drives him off his game. He has to focus on saving his Niall or loose everything.

Sounds romantic, right? You bet it is and this is so fast paced and confusing in the turmoil of thoughts and action, I came out gasping for air. Not so much Rambo but one more step and that could have been it.

Another entertaining read from an author who knows how to get our pulses racing.

An action packed novella that left me smiling.

Finn is all alpha male and buttkicking soldier. He's a British cop on loan to the elite Norwegian Emergency Response Unit, who police for terrorist activities in Norway and out into the Norwegian Sea. Highly trained and deadly, he's got a soft spot for nerds, especially if they have glasses. Once he heard Niall's Scottish accent he was gone.

Niall is an introverted nerd whose small, slim stature hides a fierce courage. He has more sass than he realizes and while he loves that Finn is bigger and physically stronger, Niall doesn't have any problem making his desires known, in and out of the bedroom.

Niall's job as a decommissioning engineer of oil rigs for a huge Norwegian company brought him and Finn together and if they aren't very careful and extremely brave it might be what kills them.

I loved that Niall was a hero in their situation. Of course Finn was too, but that's his job and he did it well, but Niall totally rocked it.

Niall and Ewan were great together, they have such a healthy dynamic. It's always nice when siblings have strong friendships as adults.

This is a short story so everything happens quickly. I enjoyed the romance and the way both wanted more but were afraid to ask for it, nothing like a life and death situation to put things in perspective. These guys were so hot for each other every time they were together, barring the life in peril portions, they were tearing up the sheets.

Fun, sweet, sexy, cute and entertaining. I enjoyed this brief interlude of excitement, danger and love.

While at a mandatory safety meeting as part of the Norwegian Emergency Response Unit, work partners Erik and Finn are bored and they don’t want to be there. Erik knows Finn is gay and he’s good with it. So when Finn is distracted by the very pretty Niall, the engineer about to give a speech, Erik teases and then ditches the meeting. So Finn gets to meet the very intelligent Niall on his own. In the span of a short conversation, Finn is pretty taken with Niall and tries to figure out if Niall might be interested as well.

As the two get to know each other and sleep together it becomes clear that Niall is looking for a partner and Finn is out the door nearly as soon as the condom comes off. Very frustrating for Niall.

They aren’t together all the time, Finn is a Delta and Niall is decommissioning oil rigs. But then the unimaginable happens and Niall is in danger. Finn’s attitude of “no strings” isn’t helping here when a crazy from the past causes trouble.

There were a couple of times there were distracting name switches and I had to go back and reread the paragraph again. I liked Niall a lot, as well as Ewan, his brother. Finn was more irritating, his insistence that he “couldn’t love someone…it wouldn’t be fair”.

There’s a lot going on in the second half of the book, with the crazy around. I did like very much when Niall is frozen in place on the boat deck. That seemed a very real reaction – Niall isn’t a Delta, he’s an engineer. But his thoughts of “What would Finn do?” help him through. And I thought the ending was so them.

Not one of this author's better ones

There were a ridiculously high number of proof editing mistakes in this one, wrong tenses, the wrong name used not only on multiple occasions but once in the same sentence the two MCs were referred to with the same name.

It was also very short, so the relationship never got a chance to develop properly and the main plot element of a terrorist coming back from the dead for revenge didn't really work for me.

It was a shame because all the elements were there, interesting setting you don't see often, bit of a mystery element, bit of a thriller element, hot military man, nerdy engineer, instant connections, fighting the feelings, sexy cover etc, but it just fell flat and the name errors just really annoyed me.

It is a very good story but too short though , so we see little of like the love is developed between Fill and Niall. While the action scenes worked better. However I enjoyed very much the reading.

The story starts with Finn, an elite military man, sitting in a boring training class… and I almost did a double take. But almost immediately, the person who comes on stage to lead the next segment of the training is Niall – a super smart (and perhaps somewhat nerdy) man that catches Finn’s eyes. From there, they come together and there are fireworks in the bedroom – culminating in a threat aboard the oil rig Niall is decommissioning and Finn is trying to protect.

This is a very short novella, about 66 pages, and the story and depth of characters and action matched the length perfectly. I learned just enough about Niall and Finn, their fears and their insecurities before the action happened. And this book was packed with action. A majority of the novel takes place on the oil rig that has been hijacked – with Niall doing everything he can to stay alive and save the others while coming to the realization about his feelings for Finn. Meanwhile, Finn is trying to save Niall – and realizing at the same time, he was falling for Niall and was close to losing objectivity. The action was intense and of course, there was a superhero alpha involved!

While I would have loved to have seen their story develop over a longer period of time, it all came together nicely and was a very quick read. This is a good read for anyone who loves a hot military alpha and a super smart man who can hold his own.

When Finn Hallan and Niall Faulkner had an instant connection after a conference meeting they knew it was more than just a one night stand but it takes a hostage situation in the middle of Mother Nature's wrath that makes them see how far their feelings have grown. Will they be able to reveal their feelings or have they left it too late?

I originally purchased this novella long ago and when the author re-released a re-edited version, I purchased that too and yet as much of an RJ Scott fan as I am, somehow Alpha Delta went unread. Then when I learned she was releasing this as part of an anthology for her weather setting novellas I knew I had to find Alpha and finally read it. Boy am I glad I did and wondered every minute as I read what took me so long.

💬Now I should mention I only read the re-editted version so I can't speak to the differences in the original and re-release.💬

Finn and Niall are an absolute dream. I've seen some label them as opposites attract and I guess to some extent they are: elite cop and nerdy engineer but when you look past that I found them to be quite similar and definitely perfect for each other. And once again, RJ Scott has shown her respect for Mother Nature, this time in the form of storms in the Norwegian sea.

I know for some people the connection between Finn and Niall is too quick but I don't see it that way and as much as Alpha Delta is a romance novella, I found at the core it was about survival and what we are able to make ourselves do to get through impossible situations. Sure we see Finn and Niall realize what's important when they risk losing it but at its heart, Niall faces certain death in a way he never imagined but he pushes himself to do what he has to and for me that survival instinct is what made Alpha Delta a must read.

I enjoyed reading Alpha Delta.

Alpha Delta was a very quick read for me compared to other RJ Scott books that I’ve read. Amazon shows the page count at 62 which is a pretty short novella.

Finn is a cop on a special forces team code named Delta. Niall is an engineer with NorsDev and he specializes in the environmentally safe decommissioning of oil platforms.

When the two meet, they are attracted to each other and they have a very hot night together even though Niall doesn’t really do one-night stands. Finn wants more than one night but he doesn’t do relationships because of his job. The heat between these two had me fanning myself at times.

RJ manages to convey all the information we need about these two even though Alpha Delta is pretty short. The story progresses very quickly, skipping from their first night together to a few months later when they are still seeing each other.

Finn is beside himself when Niall is captured by terrorists who take over the oil platform he’s working on. He must put his feelings for Niall aside so that he can do his job and safe his lover.

I love books by RJ Scott. This is the first short novella I’ve read from her; most of the other books I’ve read have been much longer. Still, it has many of her trademark story elements and it had my emotions going all over the place until I got to the HEA and I’m glad I read it.

I really enjoyed this story – it was fast paced and great mix of romance and action! I’m a big fan of RJ Scott’s books and can add Alpha Delta as one of the many reasons why. This a quick but definitely satisfying read!

Finn is a member of the Special Forces team, Niall is an engineer and yes these two are the perfect blend of sexy alpha and loveable nerd. I loved them together from the beginning! Finn first meets Niall during a training session he has to attend, which is definitely not his thing, he’s rather be out in the action. But, the sexy Scottish engineer explaining how to decommission an oil platform catches his eye! The attraction is instant for both of them, smoking hot chemistry, but a relationship is harder. Both have busy careers that keep them apart. Real feelings are brought to light when terrorists take over the oil platform where Niall is working and it’s up to Finn and his team to save him.

I loved the action and fast pace, I couldn’t put this book down until I was finished! I enjoyed the drama and the romance of it, the perfect mix of action, adventure and love! Overall a fun read that I enjoyed in one sitting! I would definitely recommend this story, Niall and Finn are great!

I'm disappointed.
This book is a re-edition, got a new cover and all. Lots of reviews of the first edition recall editing mistake, multiples name swap, even in the same sentence. And this book got re-published without even a re-read.
I'm not asking for new content, or changing plot point, or giving more time for us to meet them before we are told they have been together for months. But just fixing all those easily fixable mystake. It's really confusing a time.
It's a shame because the story could be good. Both guys are sweet and the story is interesting. A bit too much tell, not enough show.
I wouldn't have brought this book, given all the reviews who mention poorly editing. But since I got it for free, I gave it a chance.

While there are some romantic elements to the story (with Finn & Niall meeting and hooking up), this is more of an adventure story. Which is fine, just not quite what I expected :) But don't get me wrong, I really, really enjoyed it. I do have to warn you though that it is a short read … although that doesn’t stop Scott from delivering a heck of a ride.

Finn & Niall meet at a conference and their attraction to each other isn’t what they expect but it also can’t be denied. With their schedules though getting together isn’t all that easy, plus Finn isn’t much for relationships. It doesn’t stop them from falling for each other – it just keeps them from talking about it. Then, the hijacking of the oil platform with Niall on it happens. Now keeping his distance is the last thing on Finn’s agenda.

It’s refreshing that Scott has Niall be as important to the operation as Finn. He doesn’t have the training but he does have a sharp mind and a lot of guts. He’s not willing to go down without a fight and will do whatever he has to to help Finn do his job. There’s a lot of hair-raising moments that will keep you glued to the pages and you’ll feel a little worn out by the time it is all over. But in my mind that’s the mark of a really great storyteller – I got so caught up in it that I felt like I was right there with them every step of the way!

Short so the romance element between Finn and Niall was covered in the three months between meet and danger that we didn't get.
The revenge terrorist plot on the oil platform was quite exciting.
But it was all very short, so everything is necessarily telescoped which perhaps didn't do the story any favours.
