There’s no place like home…

Surviving a pirate-infested hell-scape—complete with a giant crocodile and a fairy with bad intentions—was rough. I’d been hoping for better days when a cyclone of story-magic dropped me and Hook smack in the middle of a place called Oz.

At first it seems like paradise, but as always, there’s a catch. The Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys are terrorizing the townsfolk, and they’re in desperate need of saving. A job made near impossible when I find out that my mortal enemy, Almira, and The Wicked Witch of the West are one and the same… And she will stop at nothing to end me.

If I ever want to get back to C’an Saas and save my own people, my band of misfits and I will have to defeat the strongest witch who ever lived. With the right combination of wits, heart, and courage, we might have a chance. I just have to hope that the dark pirate of my dreams and Prince Charming don’t kill each other in the process...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.

I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.

This was such a great conclusion to the Inkbound Book trilogy! This book immediately picks up where the second book ended and sees Harmony and Hook dropped off into another fairytale, this time in a land called Oz that is being terrorized by the Wicked Witch of the West and her army of flying monkeys. Harmony and her band of misfits are determined to help the townsfolk, especially when they realize her nemesis, Almira, is the same Witch who is wreaking havoc on Oz. Through wit, courage, and heart, they might stand a chance in defeating the witch once and for all.

Shannon has a way of creating worlds that keep you engaged and her weaving bits and pieces of fairytales together made this such a fun read! This series as a whole is a fantastical ride through some fan favorite fairytales, complete with action and adventure, a comical and fierce female lead, an amazing group of misfits, and a slow burn romance that keeps you on the edge with tension!
I loved that this book in particular was a fractured retelling of Wizard of Oz. Seeing mentions about the yellow brick road, the wizard, and munchkins made my Oz loving heart happy!

One of my favorite parts about this series is the epic found family! Harmony seems to gather them all like Pokemon cards at this point. They're a ragtag group of misfits that include Prince Charming, Captain Hook and his crew of pirates, a stealthy group of sibling thieves, and the bestest friend that a girl could want. They're all so different and yet they each bring something unique to the group!

Thank you so much to Shannon for the advanced copy! 🖤

Inked in Emeralds is the final book in a fairytale-esque slow-burn fantasy trilogy. This series has been so much fun to read!

Shannon effortlessly blends the magic of the fairytales we love into an adventurous tale of resilience and self-discovery. This series has everything you need in a fairytale: villains, magic, a determined FMC, the best animal sidekick, tons of mystery, hilarious banter and inner dialogue, and romance sprinkled throughout. The side characters are delightfully funny, and Harmony (the FMC) often makes spur-of-the-moment decisions that kept me feral to finish it in one sitting! It’s such a unique fairytale retelling, and I couldn't put it down. This book is a delightful mix of adventure, humor, and heart, making it a must-read for fans of fairytale fantasies!

What a ride!!! Inked in Emeralds was the absolute perfect finale to this trilogy and I’m still reeling. Shannon Mayer really knows how to mash up fairytales and make them feel wild, fresh, and totally addictive.

We’ve been to Neverland, we’ve battled pirates and curses, and now we’re thrown straight into Oz but forget the technicolor dreamland. This version is chaotic, dangerous, and full of high-stakes twists that kept me glued to the page. Flying monkeys, cursed towns, the Wicked Witch… every chapter had me gasping.

The found family vibes were everything chaotic, loyal, and so full of heart. I loved watching Harmony’s crew fight, grow, and stick together through it all. And then there’s the romance. The slow burn! The angst! That love triangle had me screaming into my pillow more than once, and yes, I loved every second of it.

Harmony herself is such a fierce and inspiring heroine. Vulnerable, brave, stubborn, and determined her growth across these books broke me and healed me all at once. By the end, I was emotional in the best way and didn’t want to say goodbye.

This trilogy has adventure, romance, found family, epic battles, and all the fairytale magic (with a sharp, twisty edge). Truly one of my favorite reads this month. I’ll be screaming about it forever.

I ate this book up! Inked in Emeralds is the final book in a fairytale-esque slow-burn fantasy trilogy. This series has been so much fun to read!

This series truly captures the magic of a fairytale. From wicked villains and clever twists to a strong-willed heroine and her hilarious animal companion, it’s packed with charm. The witty dialogue and unpredictable choices Harmony makes kept me glued to the pages. It’s a fun, fast-paced retelling that balances adventure, humor, and just enough romance. Fans of fairytale fantasies will love this unique take!

This is my top series of 2025! The first two books in this series were action packed and filled with adventure, romance, high stakes, and friendship, and this book definitely continues to deliver! I am sad to say that this is the conclusion to the series, but the author did a wonderful job of wrapping up the story. Shannon Mayer absolutely nailed the fairytale retelling by making a unique plotline that gave us some of our favorite characters but a twist that made them a whole new story. Harmony is the strong, fierce, courageous FMC that you love to celebrate, and it was awesome to see how far she has come and how much she has grown through the trial and tribulation of the first two books. The characters of this series continued to be likeable and loyal, and provided the heart and tight knit friendship that everyone loves with a found family trope. Shannon is a master of the slow burn, and the love triangle in this book was equally maddening and butterfly-in-the-stomach inducing. The best part of this series is that there is never a moment where you know exactly what is going to happen. The author did a phenomenal job of keeping the readers intrigued and guessing, and eager to see what was going to happen and what challenges were going to come next. Though I am sad to see the series over, I feel content and fulfilled with this story and it has easily become one of my favorites!

Shannon Mayer has taken her readers on quite the fairytale journey in her Inkbound Trilogy.

After her mother, the Queen of C’aan Saas, sealed her away in the book of fairytales for her safety, Mayer has sent the heroine, Harmony, and her best friend first through the tale of Cinderella, with some horrific twists, in Inked in Ashes. The second story, Inked in Onyx, saw Harmony and friends fall over the page into the world of Peter Pan , Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys and Captain Hook.

That was another world where nothing was as it seemed, Harmony showed even more development, and important friends were left behind by Harmony as she and Hook traveled over the page to find the answers necessary to go through to Harmony’s final chapter.

They end up in Oz! The Emerald City. Land of Flying Evil Monkeys and Munchkins. And the Wizard behind the curtain. And more twists before ending home for the final battles.

This last book is so good. Familiar yet not as Mayer throws in her own twists and surprises here, making this familiar tale new , poignant and exciting.

The battle scenes were great, the characters in their respective emotional growth and relationships were fantastic and beautifully executed. Harmony and Hook each are so well done.

Inkbound is a fabulous fairytale fantasy trilogy. One I’m highly recommending.

Love the covers.

Inked in Emeralds was an action packed conclusion to the Inkbound trilogy. This trilogy is a fairytale retelling dream! Each book weaves a different fairytale into a new imaginative story, with Inked In Emeralds pulling inspiration from The Wizard of Oz.

The stakes are high for Harmony and her crew, as they battle their way through Oz and onto Harmony’s home to rid the worlds of The Wicked Witch. Harmony is surrounded by a wonderful found family, who support and care for her. Developing those relationships and trust was paramount in this book. While a lot of the characters were recurring in different ways throughout these books, each version had their personalities and role to play in the impending battle.

Harmony navigates the story well and the growth we see from her is inspiring. She had some difficult decisions and sacrifices to make but I felt like the story got the happy ending it deserved. Expect a touch a love triangle in this story, with Harmony caught between Duncan and Hook. It added some great tension to the story.

This is a great bingeworthy trilogy and perfect for the fairytale lovers.

🜲 Characters 🜲
I loved reading about the previous and some new characters in this book. While the previous books had our characters more on a happy note, this time, you could feel the tension in them, and how their happy feeling was tuned down. You still have funny moments with the characters, but this time, there's a bit more of a doomsday feeling, and the characters, through their actions, show that things are serious.

⚔︎ World-Building ⚔︎
I loved the inspiration from The Wizard of Oz, it gave it away from that town name, which sounded so funny, and I loved it lol - it was clever. The details offered were enchanting as the story itself, and I loved that fairytale feeling.

♡ What I liked/Disliked ♡
I loved that while the story was more serious, and things were more tense, it still kept that funny vibe and made me laugh, feel that adventure, but also feel what was at stake. The story does have a happy ending, but some things happened that may be a bit upsetting. I also loved the budding love between Harmony and Hook, and how things ended. It was the perfect ending to the trilogy. HOWEVER, I hope we'll still get to see some of these characters in other stories.

🔥 Spice Level/Potential Triggers 🔥
The spice level, I'd say, is at 3.5 pepper flames. There's one scene, detailed but not very graphic. Potential triggers I think are worth mentioning are battles that include blood and limbs, loss of a friend/acquaintance.

"Inked in Emeralds" by Shannon Mayer takes readers on a wild ride through Oz, blending familiar fairytale elements with the author's unique brand of magic and adventure. Harmony and crew find themselves in a vibrant yet dangerous Oz, where the Wicked Witch of the West—a.k.a. her mortal enemy, Almira—is causing havoc. Mayer crafts a compelling narrative that balances action-packed sequences with moments of humor and heart.

The dynamics between Harmony, her band of misfits, and the intriguing love interests add layers of complexity to the story. While the plot is engaging, at times, the pacing falters, and certain subplots could benefit from further development.
The characters, are a standout, each bringing their own strengths and quirks to the quest to defeat the Wicked Witch. Friends both past and present will have to merge together to bring Harmony home to C’aan Saas for the epic battle royale.
Overall, "Inked in Emeralds" is an entertaining ending to the series, offering a fresh twist on the classic Oz tale. Fans of urban fantasy and fairytale retellings will find much to enjoy in this imaginative and action-filled novel.

Thank you so much Shannon for providing me with an advanced reader copy! I just demolished the first two books and feel so blessed to receive a copy of the final book in this trilogy! What an ending 😮‍💨

In this we get The Wizard Of Oz vibes (which was alluded to it from book 1) and y'all have no idea how excited it made me! Harmony and Hook get dropped in Oz! One thing I realized while reading this trilogy is things aren't always what they seem! I love how Shannon keeps us guessing and entertained throughout the whole journey; there are NO dull moments!

Harmony has just grown into such a force to be reckon with of a FMC, her development throughout this trilogy has me so proud; I just adore her character. She is so relatable and this is going to be a rough goodbye; my heart is in seams at the moment 😢

And absolute brilliant conclusion to a stellar series!

If you are into slow burn romance, found family, epic adventures/ high stakes, and pure magic ✨ this book is for you and you need to read it ASAP!

The finale is here and we’re not ready for it! But, here we go! Harmony has reached the final book, and she’s not alone! Hook has come with her, and Prince Duncan is there waiting for her! Now, we’re heading into Wizard of Oz territory and yes, that includes flying monkeys.
The quest is on to get back to Harmony’s home, her true home in the real world. She’s managed to escape dangerous kings, evil fairies and dangerous crocs, but could this final foe be the toughest of all? Yep, probably, but Harmony has got this!
Packed with drama, suspense, twists, heartbreak and surprises this book is going to do everything to keep you engaged in what happens next. Harmony is going to struggle with her heart on so many levels. Duncan and Hook. Making choices like a queen and so much more. This story will break your heart and put you back together again.
The ending? Fitting...and jaw-dropping at the same time. We may or may not have started freaking out. LOL! All that matters is that, we’re sad to say goodbye to these characters, but we’re glad that they get the ending they deserve.

This series has squeezed my heart in more ways than one. It was such an epic adventure with beautifully done worldbuilding based on fairytales. This one was just like the others, a perfectly paced adventure with slow burn 🔥 and heart wrenching emotions. I loved the touch of love triangle and the steamy buildup between the lovers. And Fetch (animal companion)❤️ has my whole heart. I LOVE SHANNON'S BOOKS.

Another great series! I loved that it was easy to read and quick. Every time I told myself I was going to bed, the pages told me nope. It does wrap up for the couple in this one!

It was full of romance tension, plot tension, and everything else tension. I absolutely love the fierce FMC and the characters she meets along the way. And no spoilers, but it was just emotional and raw.

And absolutely a 5 star and I recommend the whole series to everyone who loves romantasy and fantasy retellings with a little bit spice.

I have really enjoyed this series! I keep saying it, but Shannon has brought me closer to fantasy and loving it. This series has merged together the retellings of Cinderella, Peter Pan, and now The Wizard of Oz, but imagine them with a darker side and morally grey characters. And let me tell you, she’s done it brilliantly!

I feel like this was the perfect ending to this series! Harmony has grown so much as a character from when we first met her in book one. She is a fierce FMC and I just love her.

I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give spoilers, but be prepared for a wild ride! The land of Oz will have you mesmerized. It’s full of tension…romance and plot! And the triangle with Hook and Duncan…omgggg…okay I have to stop! You have to read it! And Fetch is back, he’s the best animal companion you can ask for! Get ready for a ride and an adventure because this book is about to take you on one!

Excellent Finale!

This was the perfect ending to this trilogy. I really enjoyed this fairytale retelling of the Wizard of Oz. Complete with munchkins, the green Wicked Witch of the West, flying monkeys, the Yellow Brick Road, and the man behind the curtain himself. Harmony has to make a lot of hard choices in this one and definitely doesn't make the right decisions. We have both MMCs from the first 2 books present together which creates some lovely tension! Everything is wrapped up nicely by the end and while there was a lot of sadness, it was the perfect ending (for most)! And then you flip to the last page.....well read it and you'll find out!

This was okay, and I am happy I read it, but I didn’t like it as much as the first two books. The Wizard of Oz is the fairytale featured in this book and it stayed similar to the original story of Oz so it didn’t feel as exciting to me.

🌶️🌶️ The story had several steamy scenes that very clearly described adult acts but it wasn’t as explicit as most smutty scenes are. I still think it’s best for the 18 and over crowd.

🎧 The audio was fine, it didn’t add or take away from the story in my opinion.

This book was the most epic conclusion to an amazing series. It was absolutely incredible and I loved it so, so much.

Harmony, Hook, Billy, Duncan and all of their friends were so perfect. This story was so clever and had so many surprises and twists. I was constantly on the edge of my seat.

I really loved these characters and their story, I didn’t want it to end. I loved the little hint in the epilogue and I can’t wait to see what Shannon Mayer writes next 💚

UGH

This is a book series that never should have been written. I like some of the characters but seriously. To say the fairytale stories have been over done is an understatement. And it's just the same nonsense over and over. Hook being in his 70's and hooking up with a barely legal virgin is cringe. And switching from Duncan being the love interest to her suddenly being into Hook *(Stockholm syndrome) is weird. As well as him moving on two Billie two seconds later. Save yourself the time and move on to something better.

Wow. I can’t believe this series is over. 🥹 Inked in Emeralds was the final book in Shannon Mayer’s fairytale-esque slow-burn fantasy trilogy, and it absolutely stole my heart. This series has been such a magical, emotional ride, and it easily became one of my top reads of 2025. ✨📚

This installment swept me away with its darkly whimsical retelling inspired by The Wizard of Oz 🌪️💚. Harmony and Hook found themselves dropped into the land of Oz, where paradise quickly turned into peril. But nothing compared to the chilling reveal that Harmony’s mortal enemy, Almira, was none other than the Wicked Witch of the West herself… and she would stop at nothing to end Harmony. The flying monkeys 🐒, the desperate townsfolk, and the looming battle to return to C’an Saas all added so much urgency and tension.

What I adored most (besides Hook, of course 😉⚓) was Harmony’s journey. She had grown so much since book one—fierce, courageous, and stubbornly determined—and I found myself cheering for her every step of the way. Her impulsive decisions, hilarious inner dialogue 😂, and moments of vulnerability made her one of my favorite heroines this year. The side characters continued to shine as well—the found family vibes, the loyalty, and the heart they brought to this tale made me laugh and cry in equal measure. 💕

The romance… oh, the romance! Shannon is a master of the slow burn, and the tension here was both maddening and deliciously perfect 🦋🔥. The triangle between the dark pirate of Harmony’s dreams and Prince Charming kept me absolutely feral to turn the pages. I truly never knew what was going to happen next, and I loved how the story balanced adventure, humor, and those swoony moments we all crave.

This series had it all—villains, magic, high stakes, friendship, and a beautiful thread of resilience and self-discovery running through every page. Even when my heart was racing with the action or breaking over the struggles Harmony faced, I couldn’t put this book down. 💔➡️💖

Though I’m sad to say goodbye to this world, Shannon Mayer wrapped it up beautifully. The ending felt fulfilling and left me with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. This was such a unique fairytale retelling, full of adventure, humor, heart, and unforgettable characters. Truly a must-read for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, Once Upon a Time, or Wicked. 🌊✨🪄

Inked in Emeralds was a wonderful conclusion to the Inkbound trilogy! It does have an HEA but it seems like the story could continue with the next generation and I’m very excited for that! The Inked in Emeralds prevailing fairytale was Wizard of Oz, so the majority of the story takes place in The Emerald City. Everyone is not as they seem & Harmony’s ragtag crew must determine who they can trust as they rush to obtain the final object & her mother’s prophecy.

*There is one spicy scene in Emeralds. I’ve included the percentage/chapter at the bottom of this review.*

Each book in this series picks up immediately where the last left off.. and that means that each one begins with Harmony being thrust into a new story. First book was “Cinderella”, second was “Peter Pan”, and now we have “Wizard of Oz”. I loved Shannon’s unique take on these widely known stories and how she incorporated them into Harmony’s journey.

In this book they learn they must face some trials that Harmony’s mother had set out for her. In the meantime, they are staying in the Emerald City palace with the Wizard of Oz. True to the Oz story, he’s the weak man behind the curtain, so you have this “will they or won’t they” tell situation going on throughout.

The found family in this story just tugs at all your heart strings. Without each friend Harmony meets along the way, she would not be able to make it to the end of the story. Harmony’s soft heart was both a detriment and her saving grace. I really think it’s what will make her a great Queen, even though so many were saying it’d be her downfall.

The only aspect I did not like was more-so a personal reason - there is a love triangle going on between Duncan, Harmony, and Hook. I typically do not read love triangle books because someone always gets hurt & it ends up feeling like cheating. I felt so bad for Duncan this entire book and I just wanted to wrap him in a big hug. This is a me problem though, not a book problem!

All in all I loved this book and this entire trilogy! Shannon’s writing is some of my absolute favorite. It’s always fun, immersive, and completely unique. I will continue to recommend any of her books!

Thank you very much to Shannon and her amazing team for the ARC copy! 💚

My heart hurts and I’m processing that ending but my review will (hopefully) come soon

✨several hours later and I’m back✨

It’s incredibly fitting that this story released in the middle of the recent fandom surge with the Wicked movie musicals gracing theaters and television screens. Two tales showing a new side to the 1939 classic that most of us know and love. It’s perfect!

The final tale in Harmony’s page-turning journey brings us to the land of Oz, but one very different from the tale we’ve all been familiar with. New iterations of old characters are introduced and old characters are brought into this new world to continue on the now yellow brick path to the final battle that’s been gearing up the last two books between Harmony and the one whom deemed herself the wicked witch, Almira.

The way Shannon twisted the theme of the head, the heart, and courage from the original Dorothy tale into literal trials Harmony must go through with the new characters that represent those original three (Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Lion) was genius! Heart-wrenching, because these were incredibly tough trials for Harmony to go through, but a perfect setup nonetheless.

There was so much going on for the buildup with this finale. Old characters from previous tales are brought back and everyone is gearing up for the final battle. Reading the last maybe 6ish chapters had me on the edge of my seat, frantically flipping pages. Thought my heart was going to be torn out one way and then was completed blindsided by how it was actually torn out. The ending for this one was heartbreaking yet perfect in a bittersweet way. Yet another series ending where I need Shannon to start chipping in on my eventual therapy bills (I’m thinking of you in this moment, Gossamer).

But more than that emotional ending, the very final page has me incredibly interested to know if Shannon has more planned for this world than the stories Harmony has ventured through thus far. Only time will tell…👀👀

This is the third book in the Ink Bound trilogy and it is the perfect ending to this series.
First, let me say that the character development and world building are incredible. This series is the retelling or re-imagining of three fairy tales. These are skillfully written and so well done. I can't say that enough, because I have never been a huge fan of the classic fairy tales but these books made me change my mind. I will not tell you what fairy tales these books cover, I will let you discover that for yourself.
Harmony, James, Duncan, Billy, Fetch and Molly are all such wonderful characters it was a pleasure to read this book and have their stories finished up.
In this book the war with the wicked witch is finally going to take place but Harmony might not be ready in time if she can not complete trials that her mother made for her. She must pass these trials before she can be given a powerful gift that her mother left for her.
Each person in Harmony's life is important but the people with her for the trials are there for a reason which becomes clear during the trials.
Harmony has quickly become one of my favorite characters from all of this authors books.
If you love a great story that is well written, has twists, action, magic, a touch of romance a really bad but well written antagonist this one is for you. The main protagonist is such a strong, protective and compassionate character that grows and evolves with each book, I mean just perfect. I love it when the main character changes and grows with a story instead of staying stagnate.
Snap this one up, but for the full journey start with the first book. Inked in Ashes, if you read that one first you will grab Inked in Onyx because, well you just will want to know what happens next and in what world will Harmony end up.

Slow burn (low spice), found family, love triangle, lost heir, bada$$ FMC, growly pirate captain, cinnamon roll Prince Charming, secret identity, multiple fairy tale elements, betrayal, amazing falcon sidekicks, great side characters, prophecy, high stakes, trials to see if she is worthy, evil witch, monsters (those evil flying monkeys!)

Again, this book picks right up after the last ends with Harmony being surprised by Duncan's presence. Her and Hook landed in Oz and were quickly taken to a small bubble of peace. The problem? They must travel to Emerald City for the last piece of the puzzle to be able to travel back to her home and defeat the evil witch. But that same witch is terrorizing Oz as well and has evil flying monkeys swarming the land during the night hours. Can they make it before it is too late and all hope is lost?

I have not been able to put this trilogy down! And this final book of the trilogy did not disappoint. There was humor as well as lots of danger and super high stakes and so much character growth for more than just Harmony. I love how we get to see some awesome characters in different iterations and the ending. Gosh, the ending. It was so epic. I think it was my favorite of the three and while Shannon gave us emotional damage, she also gave us a perfect ending! And there is… maybe a hint of more to come?

By far my favorite book of this series, I loved getting to explore the land of Oz in this book and see out the end of this story of a princess dropped into her own fairytale! This book picks right up where book 2 left off, with Harmony accompanied by Hook into the next story, only this time some familiar faces followed them and aren’t just new characters in the same bodies! I loved getting to continue Duncan’s story and this new version of Billy in the land of Oz! While in Oz, Harmony must work with her friends to make it to the emerald city and avoid danger at every turn and then when they get to the city they must pass the test and trials of the great and powerful wizard to unlock the final prophecy and take down the evil witch. “Are you a good witch or a bad witch.”

I loved the elements of one of my favorite movies that this book brought in while still spinning its own adventure story! All of the reoccurring characters returning from previous books and getting to check in after they had previously been left behind was also a fun surprise! There were lots of good twists and betrayals and even a few tragic deaths that had me reeling but also understanding of the sacrifices that needed to be made for the greater good! Overall the story wrapped up well while also leaving room to explore more into this fantastical world! My rating 4.8/5!

Thank you to the author and crowns and chaos pr for the gifted arc, all opinions given are my own!

Shannon Mayer delivers another exhilarating instalment in her Inkbound series with Inked in Emeralds—and it might just be my favourite yet. Dropping us headfirst into a dark and dazzling Oz, she takes everything familiar and twists it into something thrillingly unpredictable: a cyclone of danger, magic, and tangled loyalties.

I adore how Mayer weaves together the nostalgia of Oz with her own unique, gritty imagination. The Wicked Witch of the West is no mere villain but a terrifying force who raises the stakes to impossible heights. The flying monkeys, the emerald shine, the sense of being caught between wonder and horror—it’s all vividly rendered.

But what truly hooked me (pun intended) is the beating heart of the story: the dynamic between Hook, Duncan (Prince Charming), and our heroine, Harm. Their chemistry sparks off the page—fiery, messy, and deliciously tense—while the misfit crew, headed by the irrepressible Billy, provide warmth and humour amidst the darkness. It’s this blend of sharp-edged adventure and emotional intimacy that makes Mayer’s world so completely addictive.

Every page brims with action, peril, and heart, and just when you think you can breathe, Mayer reminds you that in this world, the rules of story-magic bend towards chaos.

Verdict: A spellbinding, high-stakes adventure that fuses fairytale nostalgia with Mayer’s signature bite. Fans of fractured fairytales and fierce heroines will devour this. Five sparkling emerald stars.

Ok, so this book was the perfect ending to this series. After the wild rollercoaster that was the first two books, this was the perfect climax and ending to a fantastic tale. The build up and slow burn was absolutely worth it and the suspense kept me hanging on until the very end. Each of the segments of the story (it’s a three book series) was a different retelling of favorite fairy tales but all mashed up into a wonderful and wonky adventure. Shannon Mayer is a genius. You can’t convince me otherwise!

This book picks up after Harmony & Hook turn the page and leave Neverland to find the last item Harmony needs to help fulfill her destiny. When they end up in the wild and whimsical land of Oz, lots of things become a little less clear and a lot more complicated. It’s a race against time to get to the Emerald City and prepare for the final showdown.

This story is full of all the important things! You get adventure, suspense, self discovery and found family, on top of all the delicious and soul wrenching yearning between an exiled princess and a tall, dark, and cranky captain! The writing in this book is fantastic and at times tragic. I love these characters and after finishing the series, I’m not sure exactly where to go from here. I do know that I’m firmly “If Shannon Mayer writes it, I’mma read it” kind of girl at this point! Her stories don’t miss.

“Destiny is like a river. Ever changing.
One, tiny thing—the turn not taken, a kindness to a stranger, or a last second pivot—could alter it all.”

Inked in Emeralds wraps up the Inkbound series beautifully, and I loved every fairytale twist this trilogy brought — from Cinderella to Peter Pan, and finally the Wizard of Oz — before bringing us back to Harmony’s real world.

The story picks up right after the last book, and I really appreciated the quick recap at the start. It was a nice little refresher since I tend to forget details, so it helped jog my memory as I dove in.

The plot flows effortlessly, and one of my favorite parts was definitely the found family vibe. Seeing all those characters come together to face the final boss? The showdown was everything I hoped for!

This final installment is both emotional and packed with action — full of heartwarming moments, witty banter, and thrilling scenes that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Harmony’s journey wraps up nicely, leaving me satisfied with how everything turned out. Plus, there’s a bonus epilogue teasing a spin-off with fresh characters in the same universe, which I’m really looking forward to!

⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via the author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

Diving back into this magical storybook world full of found family moments, high-stakes adventure, and just the right amount of heart was 👌

Harmony’s character growth across the trilogy was such a highlight for me. She evolved into a truly formidable woman, one who balanced strength, vulnerability, and determination so well.

This was an enjoyable and fitting conclusion to the trilogy, tying up loose ends really well. Also, please tell me I wasn’t the only one picturing Hook from Once Upon a Time? 🤣 Because it made every scene ten times more entertaining!

I would recommend this book to others and definitely will look for other books written by this author.

I want to say thank you to the author for the ARC.

Note (How I rate): One is DNF. Two is got there but struggled. Three stars is a good, enjoyable read. Four is an excellent read and five is a comfort read that lingers with me for life. My five stars can be imperfect but to me they hit right.
