This is the third book in the Maxx King trilogy. It is full on action and high steaks throughout the story. I really enjoyed getting to know Maxx in more depth and the glimpses of his childhood and his life with his mother and grandmother on the farm. He is such a nicely developed character who feels believable.

This book has everything, action, corruption, assassins, betrayal, war, love, friendship,  loyalty and second chances. It is well written. The dialogue between characters really brings them all to life. There is a lot at stake and the characters' relationships with one another bring tension and emotion to the story that really worked well.

The author manages to pack so much in and the pacing had me turning the pages. The ending was nicely done. I liked how everything comes full circle.

Huge thanks to the author and Love Books Tours for providing a copy of the book to review.

Exciting!

This is an exceptional thriller for those who enjoy superb action tied in with military operations. There is a lot packed into this book: an unhinged assassin, a dangerous scientist, DARPA, dangerous tactics in Afghanistan , and corrupt government officials. The characters are developed well, and the reader easily connects to their plights. There is a core group of loyal friends who work together to stop the evil schemes, and there is a nice touch of romance.

Loved this book!

This awesome book is an exciting addition to the Maxx King series and mixes pulse pounding excitement with emotional resonance. I really loved how the author's writing style is stylish with great scene-setting from dark urban alleys to lavish backrooms. Maxx is developed as flawed but relatable (just like people in the real world), with temptation to wander into his personal demons and duty. The novel has a tight pace with sharp dialogue that propels it forward while giving unexpected twists that feel exciting rather than gimmicky. Some subplots are lightly sketched but do not detract from the weight of the main narrative. Falling Angels is an exciting ride that solidifies Maxx King as a solid protagonist in a series fans of spy and action fiction won't be disappointed in.

After following Maxx King through two incredible adventures, I honestly didn't think John H. Thomas could top himself. But, 'Falling Angels' isn't just a satisfying conclusion; it's a masterpiece that left me emotionally breathless and deeply moved.

The plot is absolutely insane in the best possible way. Maxx and his team are hunting a rogue ex-defense researcher, corrupt agency insiders, and an Iranian physicist with world ending technology. The story rockets from Seattle's tech labs to Beijing's chaotic streets to Afghanistan's dangerous mountains. Meanwhile, a deadly hunter is stalking Maxx across the globe, making every moment feel like it could be his last. Thomas weaves this massive conspiracy with quiet, heartbreaking character moments phenomenally. His writing pulls you forward relentlessly while making you feel every emotional beat.

Maxx has become such a beautifully complex character by this third book. Those glimpses into his past, made him feel like someone I actually know. Thomas shows us a man trying to do right in an impossibly complicated world.

Gabby, Andres, and Glen absolutely shine here. They feel like real people with genuine fears and hopes. When betrayals hit (and they hit hard), you feel them right in your chest because these relationships feel so authentic.

The pacing is absolutely perfect. I found myself on the edge of my seat during action sequences, gripping the book. The love story between Maxx and Gabby shattered me in the best way, becoming the emotional heart that gives meaning to all the high stakes action.

Thomas writes dialogue that feels natural and action that unfolds with cinematic clarity. The ending brought everything full circle beautifully, leaving me satisfied yet somehow wishing for more.

This isn't just a great thriller; it's a great book that reminds you why you fell in love with reading.

I've been stuck in a reading rut lately, bouncing between genres trying to find something that clicks. Mystery felt too slow, romance too predictable, literary fiction too dense. Then I stumbled across Falling Angels and suddenly remembered why I love reading in the first place. This book has energy that just pulls you forward page after page. The way Thomas structures the story with multiple threats converging kept me constantly guessing where things would go next. I particularly enjoyed how he develops Maxx through those childhood memories on the farm. Those quiet scenes provided such nice contrast to the chaos of his current mission and helped me understand what drives him.

The relationship dynamics fascinated me more than I anticipated. Watching these four people navigate trust and loyalty while literally fighting for survival created this beautiful tension throughout. Thomas doesn't waste words but he also doesn't rush past important moments. Everything feels purposeful. The technology angle added this modern relevance that made the whole conspiracy feel disturbingly possible.

I found myself thinking about the story even when I wasn't reading. The ending tied everything together without feeling too neat or unrealistic. This reminded me that sometimes you find the perfect book when you stop looking so hard and just take a chance on something new.

It felt bittersweet starting this book as I knew it was the last in the Maxx King trilogy, but what a way to finish.
I loved hearing more about Maxx in the beginning and it was well worth it for that ending 😍
The bit in between was high action full of suspense and corruption galore.
I’m hoping the ending gives a clue as to the characters that may feature in a future book 🤞 😃
So much happens in these books it’s hard to know what to say without giving too much away.
What I will say is that if you love a good thriller then John H. Thomas is a must read author. Great characters both good and bad, a fearless hero facing a conspiracy of an epic scale.
I going to miss Maxx but I’ll soothe myself with the audio books on my journeys to keep him going.

Thank you for having me on the 3 tours I’ve loved them.

Awesome

This final installment of the Maxx King trilogy was simply incredible. Its descriptive language, combined with the fluid development of the story and characters made it easy for me to get hooked on the entire plot. The science fiction in this book is truly captivating because, at times, it doesn’t stray far from the reality we live in today, especially with the global conflicts that create tension and threaten world peace. I found the story and the main character’s development fascinating, and thanks to the author’s writing, it’s easy to step into his shoes and experience his emotions, his stress, and the weight of his decisions. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to escape their routine and dive into a unique and unforgettable story.

Waiting for a great continuation of the Maxx King Series, this is just amazing and will capture your attention. The author's writing style is breathtaking. I love how he describes each character. I'm a fan of Maxx and his career path from the military to cybersecurity. It’s an ongoing situation where he manages to overcome betrayals, shows the life of a spy, and the danger of his reality.
What got my attention and kept me reading without stopping was the personal side of the book, where the author portrays the reality of the actual world, which adds connection to the reader. The grit, emotions, and his loyalty to the team will make you feel empathy and be there for Maxx King in all his situations. It is a great thriller and a strong ending to an amazing series.

I just finished Falling Angels, the heart-pounding finale of the Maxx King trilogy, and I’m still catching my breath. As a fan of gritty thrillers, I was hooked from the first page. Maxx King, the relentless ex-Army Ranger turned cybersecurity expert, battles a world-ending conspiracy with stakes that feel all too real. The global chase—from Seattle’s shadowy labs to Afghanistan’s rugged peaks—kept me on edge, with betrayals and twists hitting like gut punches. Maxx’s relationship with Gabby, felt flawed and human, making their loyalty and losses hit hard. Thomas’s writing is sharp, blending espionage, cybercrime, and brutal combat seamlessly. The showdowns had me flipping pages late into the night. For fans of Jack Slater or Matthew Reilly, even Tom Clancy this is a must-read—a wild, emotional ride that sticks with you.

After Masters of War, I didn’t think this series could get any more intense—but Falling Angels absolutely delivers. Thomas brings Maxx King’s story to a powerful close, balancing nonstop global action with raw, emotional depth. The narration by Scott Fleming is phenomenal, giving every chase, betrayal, and quiet moment real impact. The pace never falters, and the tension feels almost cinematic. What surprised me most was the heart beneath the chaos—Maxx’s loyalty, love for Gabby, and moral struggle make this more than a thriller. It’s an epic, human finale that left me breathless and sad that this was the end of the trilogy.

Falling Angels is the third book in the Maxx King Thrillers series, and it absolutely delivers! Ever since I finished Masters of War, I couldn’t wait to dive into this one — and it was worth it.

The plot is intense, filled with suspense, and the climax had me on the edge of my seat. As someone fascinated by cybersecurity, I was completely hooked. The emotional layers add real depth to the story, too.

The book is moderately paced, with lucid language that makes it a smooth and addictive read. You can easily finish it in 2–3 sittings. A must-read for thriller lovers!

Maxx King doesn’t just fight enemies; he battles like a figure pulled from legend. His journey has the weight of myth—betrayals like epic tragedies, victories like ancient conquests. The stakes feel bigger than one man, yet intensely personal, echoing themes of sacrifice, destiny, and relentless pursuit. This thriller reads like a modern epic: gods replaced with governments, swords swapped for weapons, but the spirit of myth intact. If you’re drawn to stories that resonate beyond their pages, this book captures that timeless quality. Order it today and witness a tale worthy of its own legend.

So here we are at the conclusion. Book three, the culmination of all the tension, all the stress, all the action in books one and two. If anything, book three is even more frenetic, more super charged, more powerful. We saw growth and character development in Masters of War and the author takes that up a notch in Falling Angels.
Once again full of tension, totally gripping. The very definition of a page turner. A satisfying resolution to Maxx's story and a throughly enjoyable trilogy.

This book is the third in the Maxx King trilogy, and if I’m totally honest, I don’t know which of the three I liked the most. All of them contain intrigue, plot twists, and excellent character development, especially of King.
I think the author did a great job with this final book. The main plot, centered around cybersecurity, betrayals, conspiracies and saving the earth, keeps the reader engaged, interested, and eager to find out what comes next for Maxx and his team.
Highly recommended and definitely worth reading. It’s perfect for those days when you want to immerse yourself in a good book with a good cup of coffee.

Another brilliant book from John H Thomas, plenty of action yet again with King needing to save the world from complete devastation. We get a glimpse into Maxx’ past growing up and with a perfect ending fit for the end of the series!
I enjoyed the change of genre from my norm as I mentioned with the previous book and will be looking out for more by the author in the future.

Just finished this third Maxx King book and need to share thoughts while everything's fresh.

Opening Impact

What grabbed me immediately was how Thomas throws you into the deep end. No slow buildup, just immediate stakes and tension that never lets up until the final pages.

Character Development

Maxx grows throughout without losing what makes him compelling. His relationship with Gabby adds heart without softening the thriller edge. Their dynamic feels authentic under pressure and the character work here is exceptional.

Global Settings

The globe trotting aspect could have felt gimmicky but each location serves the story. Seattle tech world contrasts beautifully with Beijing chaos and Afghanistan danger. Settings enhance rather than distract from the narrative.

Exploring Betrayal

This theme runs deep here. Not just plot twists but genuine exploration of what broken trust does to people who depend on each other. Those emotional consequences matter as much as physical threats.

Action Sequences

Brutal when it needs to be, strategic where appropriate. The assassin hunting Maxx creates constant dread even during quieter moments. Every confrontation feels earned and top tier.

Technical Elements

Thomas handles information smoothly. Never felt lectured about cybersecurity or weapons tech. Information flows naturally through character knowledge and situation demands.

Team Chemistry

Dynamics shine brightest during crisis moments. How they problem solve together, protect each other, handle disagreements under stress. This camaraderie makes you invested in everyone's survival.

Villain Depth

The rogue scientist and corrupt agents have reasoning beyond simple greed or power. Makes them more threatening because their logic almost makes sense. Villain complexity truly impressed me.

Emotional Foundation

This keeps everything grounded. Amid conspiracies and global threats, the story remembers it's about people making impossible choices. That human element makes spectacle meaningful.

Final Thoughts

This trilogy closer delivers everything promised and then some. Thomas has created something special here that action thriller fans absolutely need to experience.

A Fierce, High-Stakes Finale That Refuses to Let You Breathe

Falling Angels is everything you want from the final book of a thriller series — fast, unforgiving, and packed with heart-pounding tension from the very first chapter. John H. Thomas takes everything he’s built in the Maxx King world — the danger, the espionage, the complex web of betrayals — and turns the dial all the way up.

Maxx King, the relentless former Army Ranger turned cybersecurity specialist, once again finds himself in a race against time, but this time the stakes aren’t just personal — they’re global. The conspiracy at the heart of the story feels terrifyingly believable, as cutting-edge science and ruthless ambition collide in ways that could reshape the world.

What I loved most is how this book doesn’t just rely on nonstop action (though there’s plenty of that); it’s grounded in the relationships and emotional grit of the characters. Maxx’s loyalty to his team — fierce, no-nonsense Gabby, the steady and reliable Andres, and the ever-loyal Glen — adds real heart to the story. And the tension between Maxx’s mission and his desire to protect Gabby adds a layer of vulnerability to this otherwise unstoppable hero.

The settings are vivid and intense, from high-tech labs in Seattle to chaotic streets in Beijing and the unforgiving mountains of Afghanistan. Every location feels alive and dangerous, pulling you deeper into this global game of cat and mouse.

John H. Thomas knows how to keep readers guessing — the betrayals hit hard, the villains are as cunning as they are ruthless, and just when you think Maxx has the upper hand, the story takes another sharp turn. There’s no filler here — every scene, every twist, every brutal confrontation pushes the story toward its explosive conclusion.

For fans of action-packed, espionage-fueled thrillers with complex characters and razor-sharp writing, Falling Angels is a must-read. It’s a brutal, emotional, and utterly satisfying conclusion to the Maxx King saga — and it cements Maxx as a hero who truly earns that extra “X.”

Picking up Falling Angels was the best impulse decision I made this month. Here's what worked brilliantly for me:

The conspiracy feels massive yet somehow personal at the same time. Thomas manages to make world ending threats feel intimate through character relationships. Maxx King is complex without being annoying about it. He has depth and vulnerability that makes every dangerous situation genuinely tense.

Supporting characters actually matter here. Gabby brings emotional weight beyond being just a love interest. Andres and Glen feel like real teammates with their own strengths and personalities. The villains have actual motivations rather than being generically evil.

Pacing is phenomenal throughout. Never drags during exposition, never rushes through important character moments. Action sequences are clear and visceral without becoming repetitive. Different locations add variety and atmosphere to the story.

The technology elements sound disturbingly plausible. Made me think about cybersecurity and advanced weapons in new ways. Thomas clearly did his research but doesn't show off about it.

Emotional beats land effectively. The romance feels earned through shared danger and trust. Moments of betrayal genuinely sting because you've invested in these relationships. Team loyalty creates touching moments amid all the chaos.

Writing style is clean and efficient. No pretentious language or unnecessary descriptions. Dialogue reveals character naturally. Flashbacks to Maxx's childhood add dimension without stopping momentum.

The ending delivers satisfaction without feeling forced. Threads come together logically. Left me feeling complete yet wanting more from this world. Already hunting down the earlier books in the series.

‘He’s a piece of work’ – Further adventures of Maxx King!

Washington state author John H. Thomas continues his technothriller Maxx King series with FALLING ANGELS – a highly successful novel featuring Maxx King, a former Army Ranger turned cybercrime investigator. Before the action begins, we meet Maxx in the opening lines of this final volume of the series: ‘Maxx felt a sharp blow to the back of his head. Grabbing his head with a tight grip, Maxx swiveled around, his eyes scanning for the cause of the impact. Beneath his fingers, he felt the warm trickle of blood seeping through his hair, not a gusher but enough to confirm his suspicion – he’d been hit with a rock. Rocks don’t just fall from the sky, he thought with a wave of confusion. Someone had deliberately thrown it at him, but no one was visible.’ Tension established, and some background provided, this novel explodes into thrilling action!

Thomas outlines the plot well: ‘In the explosive finale of the Maxx King trilogy, former Army Ranger Maxx King, a cybersecurity expert, faces a conspiracy that could end humanity. From Seattle’s secret labs to Beijing’s frenetic streets and Afghanistan’s war-torn mountains, Maxx and his team of allies—fierce Gabby, steadfast Andres, and loyal Glen—hunt a rogue ex-DARPA scientist, traitor CIA operatives, and an Iranian physicist wielding technology that could trigger chaos on a cataclysmic scale’.

A scintillating blend of espionage and technothriller themes takes the reader on a spectacular tale that provides a completely satisfying experience. Maxx King commands attention, a top-notch action hero – a first-class candidate for cinematic conversion! Absolutely thrilling!

📚 BOOK REVIEW
Falling Angels: A Maxx King Thriller (The Maxx King Thrillers Book 3)
by John H. Thomas

"Falling Angels" written by John H. Thomas is the final book in the Maxx King trilogy and brings readers to an epic and emotional climax. The story has great action scenes and is full of suspense, but the author has also developed all of the characters throughout the series to create depth in their stories. We see Maxx as a human hero with flaws as well as strong motivation to fight for what he believes in through flashbacks to his childhood and days spent with his grandmother and mother on their farm, and these experiences add warmth and contrast to the chaos of Maxx's life as he tries to accomplish his mission.

"Falling Angels" is an ambitious story that moves quickly, as it covers multiple countries on multiple continents and shows how the author plans to bring together the world's corruption, assassins, advanced technologies, and impending global threats. However, at its core, this series is about character relationships. Maxx's relationship with Gabby and the tension and loyalty among his teammates are the basis of the explosive action of the series. The characters get hit hard when they betray one another, which is a characteristic that makes Maxx a more realistic and relatable character.

The dialogue is witty; the action scenes are "cinematic." The writing is fast paced. The end of the book ties together all three books in the trilogy in a very fulfilling manner. It is more than just a thriller; it is a reminder of why gripping, character-driven stories are popular with readers.

Book Review : "Falling Angels: A Maxx King Thriller" by John H. Thomas

The final part of The Maxx King Trilogy by John H. Thomas is a heart-pounding, world-covering ending of the series. In this last book, the world is coming to an end, and Maxx is in the middle of it all. Maxx is caught in the middle of global conspiracies, rogue scientists, and shadowy Intelligence agencies in the book.

From clandestine labs in Seattle to the downtown streets of Beijing and the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, the story moves quickly and with great urgency.

The book has much more to offer than pure adrenaline-pumping action. Maxx is much more than just an unyielding ex-army ranger and Cybersecurity specialist; he is a fully-formed character shaped by love, loyalty, and the scars of his past. Having an occasional look at his childhood adds warmth, context, and depth to his persona. Also, his bond with Gabby provides him with a complete emotional grounding that lends a personal touch to each of his missions. There is an emotional connection with the other supporting characters, including Gabby, Glen, and Andres, because they provide tension, trust, and the emotional depth of the story.

John H. Thomas seamlessly blends military action with techno-thrillers to create a balanced narrative that relies on Cyber Warfare, cryptic codes, and brutal hand-to-hand combat. While the story may feel like it's moving too fast and has too many twists and turns at times, it ultimately rewards the reader with an emotionally-charged plot, an intense final chapter that ties everything together, and is sure to leave thriller fans breathless.

There's something deeply satisfying about discovering an author who simply knows how to tell a story well. I picked up Falling Angels during a particularly dreary weekend when I needed an escape from routine, and Thomas delivered exactly what I didn't know I was craving. This book operates on a different frequency than most thrillers I've encountered. The narrative feels almost meditative at times despite the explosive content, if that makes sense. Thomas takes these massive geopolitical concepts and distills them into something profoundly human.

Watching Maxx navigate his responsibilities to the world versus his responsibility to Gabby creates this beautiful philosophical tension that elevates the entire experience. I found myself pausing frequently not because the story dragged but because certain passages demanded reflection. The way betrayal ripples through relationships, how loyalty becomes both weapon and weakness, the cost of doing what's necessary rather than what's easy. These themes linger long after the immediate action fades. The global settings aren't just backdrops but characters themselves, each location adding texture and meaning to the journey. Thomas writes with this understated confidence that trusts readers to pick up on subtleties without spelling everything out. It's refreshing.

The ending brought genuine closure while leaving me contemplating the broader implications of everything that transpired. This is storytelling that respects your intelligence while thoroughly entertaining you. Exactly what good fiction should accomplish.

Falling Angels by John H. Thomas marks the explosive climax of the Maxx King trilogy; it delivers everything that former readers could want from this collection. The book begins with Maxx racing against time to save our planet; throughout the book Maxx will travel at record speeds through secret labs located in Seattle and across war-torn countries. The pace of this action is fast-paced but does not distract readers from the development of the characters involved.

Maxx in this book continues to present as a wonderful mix of the strong and vulnerable; he is constantly being challenged both physically and emotionally due to the accumulation of betrayal upon betrayal and the dwindling of allies. What is further enhanced by the story is how much the core of the conspiracy within the story appears to be truly plausible in that it is based upon current tensions across the globe, which provides grounds for the science fiction component of the trilogy and also contributes to the feeling that Maxx is facing a constantly shifting landscape. The true emotional core of the story is the loyalty that Maxx has for Gabby, Glen, and Andres; it adds sincere and genuine emotion to the story, while Maxx has an even deeper personal stake in protecting Gabby.

John H. Thomas manages to combine intense cinematic action with clever dialogue and meaningful relationships to bring the trilogy to its logical conclusion. Falling Angels stands out as a fantastic ending to this series and burns into the mind an image of Maxx King as a hero.

The thrilling, high-stakes conclusion to the Maxx King trilogy, Falling Angels, offers both heart-pounding action and unexpected emotional depth. By involving former Army Ranger and cybersecurity specialist Maxx King in a plot that endangers humanity as a whole, John H. Thomas escalates the stakes. The book is theatrical in scope and fiercely fast-paced, spanning the savage mountains of Afghanistan, the bustle of Beijing, and secret labs in Seattle.

The groundedness of this work, in spite of its worldwide scope, is what really makes it unique. The espionage narrative and tech-driven threat are terrifyingly plausible, but the characters are the true force. Gabby is my favorite character; she's feisty, smart, and fearlessly courageous. She serves as the story's emotional center and is more than just a supporting character. An otherwise unstoppable hero gains fragility from her relationship with Maxx, which intensifies every threat and makes every task feel more personal.

Deeply ingrained themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and treachery give the relentless action genuine weight. Thomas demonstrates that this isn't just about explosions—it's about people—by skillfully balancing harsh fighting, cyberwarfare, and clandestine politics.

Fans of Matthew Reilly, Daniel Silva, and Vince Flynn should definitely read Falling Angels. It's a swift, brutal, intense, and incredibly rewarding conclusion to an outstanding thriller series.
