Trurevell is on the brink of destruction. Three Fateborn individuals are bound by an ancient prophecy. Eve mimics, Rhea channels, and Robyn controls the very fabric of the world. Together, they are the only hope to usher in a new age of magic.

Their journey will take them through forsaken cities, haunted forests, and across desolate plains, battling relentless shadow creatures that hunger for their destruction. But the true threat lies in what waits for them in the darkness, a malevolent force that has been patiently watching, waiting for the right moment to strike.

As they draw closer to each other, the bonds between them will be tested by secrets, fears, and betrayals. Time is running out, and with every step, the darkness grows stronger. Can they overcome their differences and unite before it's too late, or will the shadow claim them all? The fate of the world rests on the fragile threads of their connection. On the strength to face the darkness within.

I just finished reading fateborn by Deborah Tamber last night and I intended to give it a “just finished” review but unfortunately I couldn’t due to being rendered speechless. It’s a fantasy/adventure/thriller story from the perspective of the three main characters Robyn, Eve and Rhea.
What stood out for me most was the pacing, the rich lore and attention to minute details that bridge the divide between literary and relatability, Deborah’s ability to encapsulate the humanity of the characters in a way that makes you feel like you’re right there is a rare but beautiful thing.
This book (as the first in the trilogy) has a little something for everyone;
Robyn is an endearingly stubborn but kind hearted man, disillusioned by betrayal and the failure of a corrupt system, he fears his own destiny and the power within him and allows this to stand as an obstacle between him and his true potential (and if you aren’t rooting for him; you can’t be my friend).
Eve is an avid fighter who grew up in the woods (literally in treehouses) with a race of woodland folks, she is in love with one of them but has spent her time somewhere in between “accepted” and “ostracised” due to being different.
Rhea is a young hermit who bears the resemblance of a white witch and scavenges/does odd jobs for the occupants of the slums outside a fortress in the desert and due to her good nature happens to rescue someone who repays her kindness in ways even he couldn’t comprehend.
It’s a story about fate and my goodness does it hit the mark, it feels like watching 3 video feeds one after the other but although some parts may seem trivial, not a word is wasted and all points converge in a way that satisfies the soul.
I was once (like many of us in our 30s) an avid and obsessive reader but life got in the way, this book has single-handedly reignited my love and passion for literature and more importantly fantasy.
Who is this for? I’d say it’s for fans of Tolkien, Garth nix, eoin colfer, George R R (is that enough “R”s?) Martin, Harry Potter or for any other now matured ex fans of young adult fantasy or fiction in general.

With Fateborn, A Tale of Amethyst, Deborah Tamber immediately throws you deep into world of Trurevell & doesn't pull any punches with that.

In a point of view, chapter by chapter style you're introduced to the three main characters, Eve, Rhea & Robyn.

In the beginning you're filled with so many questions that beg you to read on further to find the answers, "what's an Urfsa", "how would I fair against a Wulfrer or even a Hog Toad alone in the forest?".

As with any world building story, after the initial chapters where you're introduced to each of the characters you begin to understand the lay of the land and grow to love the titular three.

The writing from Deborah truly conveys what I can only describe as the "vibe" of each character as each chapter is narrated from their point of view, you get to know their quirks, thoughts and feelings.

They're each unique & if all names & chapter headings removed you'd still be able to distinguish the headstrong pages of Eve from the endearing ones of Robyn or the humble ones of Rhea.

They all still have the same essence that Deborah has cultivated though, each character has a bit of a cheeky sassiness to their thoughts that doesn't always come out in their words or actions which always manages to keep an element of humor even in the darkest of moments.

I thoroughly enjoyed my read of Fateborn & I'm looking forward to more!

You don't have to be a lover of fantasy novels to be able to enjoy a good story and that's exactly what this is!

LOVED this. A brilliant fantasy novel that has made me desperate for the next one to find out more about these fascinating characters. The book tells the story of three different people (Rhea is my fave) and the story swaps constantly between their different tales - each chapter is told from the perspective of one of the three which is my favourite way to read books told from multiple perspectives. Eventually, their stories begin to overlap and I found myself getting more and more excited for when they finally found each other. I moved faster through the book as the story progressed because these brilliant characters - deep, flawed and layered - were so interesting.
The story has such a way of making you think, I was constantly guessing and coming up with theories and now can’t wait to get a hold of the next book in this series to see if my theories were right! If you like fantasy I’d recommend, but even if you’re newer to fantasy (like I am), I think this is a great book! The world building is beautifully written but easy to understand so I didn’t find it too difficult to get into this new world, which is usually what puts me off fantasy. But the real draw for me was the characters, in particular the relationships between them and those around them, and the depth of emotions that made you relate to them. Despite it being in a fantasy world, they felt like real people to me who think similarly to how I might and that in itself was gripping.

Fateborn is a wonderful book and I’d thoroughly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written with a good balance between descriptions, conversations, action etc. The pace was perfect, it was clear that the story was building up to something important but there were plenty of things going on to keep your interest along the way. I often get a bit lost with an unfamiliar fantasy book because it's an imagined world, but I found this book relatively easy to follow which helped me enjoy it more. The story told from 3 different perspectives was a nice touch. Deborah painted a very clear picture of each character's personality, strengths and weaknesses. The 3 main characters are brilliant, but flawed, which I think makes them more believable and made me enjoy getting to know them. I am really disappointed to have finished it to be honest and I cannot wait for book 2 as I am eager to learn what happens next. I am certain that I will be re-reading book 1 at some point too. I particularly liked the description of Jade Palace, it sounds like a really beautiful and serene place to be. I think Rhea was my favourite character overall due to her gentle but resilient nature, and I loved the relationship Robyn has with his comrades. Thank you Deborah.

I absolutely loved Fateborn! It took me a couple of chapters to get used to the changing POV's, since the story follows three individuals trying to figure out their respective roles in a world-changing prophecy, but once I was used to it the story gripped me and didn't let me go until the very end (and long after I put it down).

Deborah Tamber has created an incredibly vivid and unique world with characters you can't help but root for (even if you want to shake them from time to time). I enjoyed every single second of this book and can't wait for Book 2!

If you love epic fantasy with great world-building, high-paced action, well-developed magic systems, and characters that feel real and honest, Fateborn is for you!

What a read this was! This isn’t my normal genre of choice, however I was hooked! Constantly wanted to know what was happening next! The book was so enchanting and gripping, it added twists and unexpected outcomes, leaving me creating theories in my head of what I think may happen, which kept me wanting to keep reading. I highly recommend reading this book if you want an interesting read! I really enjoyed how the book used different point of views/experiences to tell the story. I can’t wait for book two!

Fateborn is a beautifully written, emotionally rich fantasy that pulls you in from page one. With three unforgettable main characters—each carrying their own scars, secrets, and strengths—it creates a story that’s as much about finding belonging as it is about battling darkness (which we all can learn from). The world is vivid and magical, the pacing tight, and the relationships feel real in a way that hits you right in the heart. Usually, I wouldn’t typically gravitate toward fantasy, but this book continued to reel me in throughout. I would say it’s a must read.

I absolutely loved this book. It’s full of brilliantly varied and dynamic characters that you will love, hate, get frustrated with, and want to beat around the head.

Deborah has created a brilliantly vibrant world that sucks you into the characters’ lives and adventures.

The interweaving narratives sucked me in and I absolutely devoured this book. I can’t wait for the next one.

What an amazing story, the tale follows three main characters as they come into their powers. This keeps the pace going as you crest each characters tale.

To quote Trosan “it’s like dipping your hand into a different world every time you reach for a book”.

The author has also created a new mish mash of creatures to populate the story, making me have to visualise a new creature for the first time in ages. I can’t wait for the second installment!

I’ve been desperate for a book that would engulf me into a world with quick pace that would draw me in for hours, this is exactly what I needed! Tamber manages to successfully blend high stakes and character-driven fantasy. Sometimes with multiple view points the story can get lost, this is not the case. Reading this was a joy, and frankly, I can’t wait to go back to it for years to come. (Bring on the next book pls)

As a person that reads casually and usually struggles to set aside time to read books I can say this book has been the one to get me back into reading.
The story was gripping from start to finish and I didn't want to put it down at any point. The story is accessible to any that like fantasy and I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the world and following the journeys of the main characters.
I can't wait to read what happens next in the next installment!!
