A grumpy hockey player. A sunshine PR queen. One fake relationship to survive the off-season—and one summer that changes everything.

The first rule of hockey PR?
Never. Date. A. Player.

Which shouldn’t be a problem—Tate Foster is the least dateable guy on the team.
Logical. Bookish. Allergic to chaos.
He hates attention almost as much as he dislikes me, the team’s PR rep.

But when I rope him into a social media stunt to boost his image, the unthinkable it works.
Suddenly, Tate—aka “Sheriff”—is looking like boyfriend material.
And those dimples he tries to hide?
Yeah…they’re messing with my professional objectivity.

Then my ex crashes my family reunion, and I need a date—fast.
Tate offers to return the favor by pretending to be my boyfriend.
Just for the summer…until the family reunion ends.

Except now we’re sharing a sofa bed in a too-small cabin, fake flirting in front of my entire family, and winning the Family Olympics like our future depends on it.

The PR plan was simple.

The rules were clear.

So why am I the only one completely, hopelessly falling for the act?

A perfect blend of heartwarming moments and laugh-out-loud humor, this closed-door hockey romcom is full of grumpy-sunshine charm, sweet fake dating, and one summer that changes everything—perfect for fans of Leah Brunner, Emma St. Clair, Jenny Proctor, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Wowzers!  Every time I start a new story by Grace Worthington, I think she can’t top the previous one she does… this book is no exception!

Tate Foster has been loosely hinted at for the last several books and now he has his own!  Oh my goodness this man!  Stubborn as a mule but Clark Kent incarnate, yes please!  Unfortunately, Tate did put his foot in his mouth at the beginning of this story and needs this email sparring partner to save his butt in a big way!

Now it’s up to Lauren Williamson to step in and save the small-ish dumpster fire!  Time for a PR overhaul and considering how much Tate hates her general PR schemes, it’s extremely likely he will absolutely abhor this one!  Somehow the plan includes capturing moments into the summer offseason!  And due to series of awkward occurrences, Lauren is forced to face the music of her family reunion with the “grumpy” hockey player in tow!

The banter, the activities for PR and the reunion, the everything… will have you both laughing and crying!  The raw vulnerability moments are every bit as beautiful as the hysterical family members and teammates who try to weigh in!  This book couldn’t get any better if Grace tried!  Throw in an adorable puppy and it’s a recipe for success!   Proud to be a Carolina Crushers fan!

I read this one in a single night, which says a lot. The banter really pulled me in, and once I started, I didn’t want to stop. If you enjoy grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, and the good old “only one bed” setup, this one hits the mark.

Lauren has sworn off dating athletes, with a job that has her constantly cleaning up their messes. And past relationships that have closed her off to it. But when Tate finds himself in need of a PR makeover, Lauren ends up working closely with him to rebuild his image. What she doesn’t expect is to actually start to like the guy behind the headlines.

When her family reunion comes up, Tate offers to be her plus-one which means... more time together, more sparks flying. But when the weekend is over, are they really done pretending? And what of their careers that may make any thoughts of a future impossible?

The chemistry between them was great!! Tate slowly breaks down all of Lauren’s walls, and you can’t help rooting for them. Grace wrote such an amazing story... I’m just wondering when we’ll get Rourke’s book. Who’s going to take on the playboy of the team?! Lol!

I rated this 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5!
I received a complimentary copy, and this review is my honest opinion.

Lauren is the PR manager of the Carolina Crushers hockey team and when Tate "Sheriff" Foster, the grumpy defense man, is in need of approving his image she's got her work cut out for her. Tate is a reluctant client, but Lauren manages the impossible and she gets to see a whole new side of him. When she needs a boyfriend to her annual family reunion Tate volunteers. It's only for a week, right?

Sports romance, grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, and some forced proximity to top it off! In addition we get dual POV, so we really get to know the characters. Tate always follows the rules (hence the nickname "Sheriff") and thinks logical, hates having his picture taken and being the center of attention. It's fascinating to see how Lauren gets him to open up and we get to know who he really is. Tate also makes Lauren question her life choices and it's both heartwarming, sad and humorous. And Lauren's family is a story in itself!

It was fun to meet the main characters from the previous books again: Brax & Jaz (The Roommate Remodel), Vale & Sloan (Perfectly Wedded) and Leo & Victoria (Perfectly Faked). Every book can be read as a standalone, but when you've read about them before it's fun to see what they've been up to lately!

* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *

*Update for audio*
This fake dating, family reunion story was fun to read back when it released and I have been having a blast listening to the audio version!

The narrators have done a great job with this story. There is such great banter between Tate and Lauren, but also so many sweet and tender moments where Tate really sees what Lauren needs and is there for her in any way that is necessary.

***

What a fun and swoony story this was! Lauren and Tate didn’t seem like a match at first, as Tate pushed back against any and all publicity that Lauren needed him to do to improve his image. Yet, as he grudgingly allowed her to set up some perfect shots for the social media pages, it was clear that there was a lot more to Tate “Sherriff” Foster than simply being a logical grump.

There was a lot more to Lauren, too. I loved that Tate jumped in and provided the support Lauren needed at her family reunion. He was an excellent fake boyfriend, but he was so much more than that, too. The way these two connected and bonded over the week of the reunion was really special. I liked that Lauren was able to understand the reasons behind some of Tate’s personality quirks.

Lauren was sometimes quick to jump to conclusions or afraid to set herself up for possibly being hurt, but Tate truly balanced her out in the best of ways. Once these two started communicating, Tate was so good at telling Lauren what was in his heart.

Perfectly Grumpy is another excellent addition to one of my favorite hockey series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I also purchased a print copy. All opinions are my own.

I'm hooked on Grace Worthington's books! I discovered her last year and have loved reading her books. I've been following this Perfect Crush Hockey Romance series and was beyond excited that Tate was getting his book! I may have picked it up and been sucked into it completely and read it in one sitting! *Happy Sigh* Thank you summertime!!!

Tate and Lauren were so fun together. They have chemistry zinging from the beginning but they are doing everything they can to avoid each other. There are reasons of course, but I loved watching those walls come down. And I really loved seeing more into Sheriff Tate's (that's his team nickname) story and what makes him tick. All you readers out there who have book boyfriends, you're going to find you have another one with Tate. Just sayin'!

PR Lauren (her nickname and she's the PR person), is bright and bubbly and full of sunshine. She tries all kinds of fun stuff with the team for PR and Sheriff just keeps putting up resistance and roadblocks! But then some PR stuff needs to happen and it gets a little twisted by Lauren's family and the next thing she knows, Sheriff Tate is her boyfriend...fake boyfriend that is. And he's all in for helping her! Cue the music! Seriously they are adorable together! Tate shows up at all the right times and is genuine and caring. Pretty soon both of their rules and walls are tumbling down as their hearts start to realize that none of this is fake!

Things I loved:
Family reunion
Harley ride
Puppy!!!
Hide and seek
Baking
Grocery story run
Forced proximity
That KISS!!!
Family
Pictures!!!
Healing
Sweet love story!!!
And soooo much more!!!

Seriously, go read it! You can read it as a standalone, or you can go back and read the previous two books. I've loved them all. Now to be patient and wait for more! ;-)

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses. Characters share a bed due to circumstances but only platonically, nothing more than sleeping and waking up snuggling accidentally happens.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

A grumpy hockey player and the team’s upbeat PR rep agree to a fake relationship to salvage his image—and get her through a family reunion. But close quarters, fake flirting, and unexpected chemistry threaten to turn a summer stunt into something real. She knows the rules… so why is she breaking them?

The most adorable facts (because our main man Tate is just “someone who really loves facts”):
• Dimples (plural)
• He reads his book to her in bed
• She’s extroverted and he’s introverted
• Their fake-dating chemistry is off the charts
• We love a smitten kitten (or in this case, maybe a smitten dog?)
• She rides a motorcycle
• Closet moment

You don’t have to tell me twice to love a misunderstood hockey player in glasses. This story naturally envelops so many sweet tropes and character traits that make you root for them from the very beginning. Couple this with fake-dating chemistry and you’ve got two shyer characters giving in to their pining.

The beginning felt a bit clunky due to some outdated references (he’s on the phone with his mom and she tells her husband to jump on the other line—what is this, 1998?), but once they arrive at Lauren’s family reunion, everything really takes off. 👏🏻

If you’re a fan of the fake-dating heat and family competition shenanigans in Faking Christmas, you’ll enjoy this flirty summer version.

4.5 stars

This was my first read by this author but definitely won’t be my last. I already have the rest of this series on my wishlist. This is a romantic comedy and I totally laughed out loud. Our hero Tate is a hockey player in the AHL and our heroine Lauren is their PR Manager. The banter is on point as Tate is very against photo ops and pretty much against doing whatever Lauren tries to set up for him. After a misspeaking mishap has him allowing her to help his image, he ends up helping her out at her family reunion - by being her fake boyfriend. The tension and swoon between these two is high! This book kept me engaged. This book also has an only one bed trope. There are quite a few instances where underwear is mention and teased about but it doesn’t go any further. I really enjoyed this Grumpy / Sunshine romance and all of its focus on fun and family. The puppy was an adorable addition. This is a just kisses romance, intimacy level 2. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

I received an ARC of this book from the author through Booked with the Emilys and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Tropes:
grumpy x sunshine
hockey player x pr manager
fake dating
forced proximity
one bed
grief
Dual POV

Perfectly Grumpy was very cute! I was introduced to the Crushers Hockey team previously and this time around Tate, the resident quiet, likes his facts, defensive man gets his moment to shine. Tate hates publicity photo shoots, won't share his private life, and likes to volunteer at the animal shelter. He seems very grumpy, but doesn't that just mean he's misunderstood? Definitely. When he accidentally insults the Commissioner's wife, PR is there to twerk his image and Tate isn't happy about it.

Lauren is the Crushers PR Manager. She cares about the team and knows Tate's goal is to make it to the NHL one day (they're AHL). However, she needs to revamp his image to help make that happen, and Tate is going to drag his feet about it. But.... it's summer vacation for hockey, and players get a week off, and Lauren has a dread family reunion to attend.

What happens when Tate's cabin rental is on the same property as the lodge that Lauren's family rents for the family reunion for the week? Water balloon toss, canoe racing, fake dating, paint ball gun matches, dealing with trauma and grief, and..... one cabin/one bed. Oh that's right.... a surprise guest at the lodge means Lauren either bunks with this guest or bunks with Tate. Yeah, I think I'd pick Tate too LOL.

I loved both characters. I enjoyed humanizing how someone may appear one way but it's because we don't take the time to understand maybe they're dealing with their own issues/experiences too. Also... puppies!

Wow, okay! I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did, actually!

First of all, it was incredibly funny to have a character with my exact same nickname and so many things alike with me irl. I was a bit worried it would make things weird but not at all! It was quite nice!

I'm not giving it 5 stars because although I devoured it, I did think the slow burn was maybe a tad to long. The yearning was great don't get me wrong, but the whole ex plotline I feel delayed things a bit for no actual reason. Also I would have loved to see a bit more of their relationship, rather than the whole thing at the rink. Still, it was incredibly adorable and I love how normal they both were.

Characters felt well rounded, I liked that we got enough of a backstory to be able to understand them and how they think. Tate wasn't toxic which was refreshing and I liked that Lauren wasn't just there for the plot: she has aspirations, there's a big weight in her shoulders but you can see where it's coming from, she has a mind of her own! Love to see a FMC that doesn't change their whole personality for a man.

I will say the end was very reminiscent of Grease and I think it would have been fine and maybe a bit more interesting if she had taken the job in Kansas. Sure, love the whole family is everything vibe but she spent the whole book talking about dreams and working hard just to put everything on pause when it's at her finger tips.

Overall it was a very good read, I really enjoyed it!

Perfectly Grumpy is the third book in the Perfect Crush Hockey Romance series. While those who have read the previous books will enjoy seeing these familiar characters and may have a better understanding of the team dynamics, I do believe this could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.

Once again, Grace Worthington has knocked it out of the park with this one... or whatever the hockey equivalent of that would be! Tate and Lauren were such a fun match. First of all, Tate was just the perfect MMC. He definitely had a bit of grump thing going for him, but he was also just a really interesting character... grumpy, yes (and not a fan of cats in the slightest), but the sweetest with dogs and kids... with a somewhat secret nerdy side that just made him all the more endearing too. And Lauren was the perfect sunshine to his grump. They had a really fantastic chemistry... both in their banter early on as she tried to get him to be more PR friendly and with those romantic sparks as the story goes on too. I just absolutely adored these two together. The competition of the family reunion and the banter between this team added so much fun and humor, which balanced out some of those more difficult aspects of their story as well (to include mentions of grief and childhood cancer). This was a beautiful story and while I have enjoyed every book in this series so far, this one is a new favorite. I loved it.

Perfectly Grumpy is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

This may have just become my favorite Grace Worthington book. I just love Tate and Lauren together, and the family reunion setting, and getting to hang out with the Crushers again. Plus, grumpy/sunshine and fake dating are two of my favorite tropes. I just love it all.

Lauren is all sunshine (hence the nickname Tate gives her) and chaos to Tate's ordered grumpiness (though, he's not truly grumpy), a perfect opposites attract. They bring out the best in each other and quickly become each other's safe space. Lauren's struggle through her grief was so real, and the way Tate helps her in it, not with advice, but with simple validation and presence was beautiful. And Lauren makes Tates comfortable enough to loosen up, lose some control, and break some rules, which I love.

Lauren's family reunion was such a fun setting for this fake dating scheme, it made me wish my family organized an olympics competition (though, paintball is not one I'd be down for). And I think I appreciate the Crushers and their group chat even more in this book than ever before (which may be because I am more familiar with them after reading more of their stories, so the friendships feel deeper). It makes me really excited for Lucian's and Rourke's stories coming up later this year (I hope!).

Thank you so much, Grace, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I love this one! All opinions are my own.

Lauren has one hard and fast rule as the PR representative for the Carolina Crushers: Never date a player. She loves her job; most of the players are a joy to work with and then there’s Tate aka “Sheriff” who keeps her on her toes. He loves playing hockey, but isn’t a fan of the expectations off the ice. Known for being analytical, he often comes across as grumpy and his comments can occasionally be misconstrued. After one such incident, Lauren is tasked with rehabilitating Tate’s reputation.

During the course of his image rehab, a small spark ignites between Tate and Lauren. When he learns Lauren is dreading her upcoming family reunion, Tate volunteers to accompany her as her plus one. Simple, right? Except things get complicated right away and their fake dating starts to feel not so fake.

PERFECTLY GRUMPY was an infusion of happy straight into my veins. It has everything I need for a breezy summer romance: flirty banter, forced proximity, only one bed, and a MMC who is hard as nails on the outside and a big softie on the inside. Toss in a meddling AND competitive family, an obnoxious ex-boyfriend, and a cute dog and you have all the makings of a delightful escape.

Thank you to the author and Booked With The Emilys for the gifted book. All opinions are my own.

Perfectly Grumpy by Grace Worthington was an absolute delight from start to finish!

I adored the dynamic between Lauren and Tate—yes, he's grumpy, but that façade melts away quickly to reveal a total sweetheart with a heart of gold. Their chemistry was irresistible, and I especially loved the scene with them motorcycling together—so much fun and intimacy packed into those moments.

The family reunion setting was brilliantly done and provided the perfect backdrop for some family drama, which added depth and humour to the story. Tate was the ultimate swoon-worthy hero: warm, sensitive, supportive, and endlessly kind. Lauren, meanwhile, is a hard-working, relatable protagonist whose grief was portrayed with such honesty—I was rooting for her from page one.

What made this book stand out was how it balanced that feel-good, comforting vibe with real emotional depth. Both characters carry the weight of loss, and seeing them process that grief and find healing together gave the romance real heart.

This was my first Grace Worthington book, and it definitely won't be my last.

Grace does it again! Taking grumpy on the outside, nerdy ball of human on the inside, Tate, and facing off against bright and sunny Lauren, you had a perfect match from the get-go. Couple this with the hilarity of the two of them at a family reunion trying to fight off attraction, and I was hooked.

I love how both characters had depth, dimension, and were relatable on some level. As always, I love the slow-building and clean chemistry between the characters. Overall, this feel-good romance has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, but it also has the emotional depth that keeps you wanting to read more.

Perfectly Grumpy has become of my favorite one in the Perfect Crush series. Even though I say with each one, I mean it with this one. I loved Perfectly Grumpy! I was hooked from the start! This story is full of sweet and swoony moments. Lauren and Tate were hilarious from the first email 😂 I love their dynamic. They balance each other perfectly. Tate is so sweet and protective of Lauren. I love how Lauren encourages Tate out of his grumpy zone. The grocery store scene had me cracking up. The romance was kisses only and closed door. Highly recommend if you love forced proximity, faking dating and grump/sunshine! I cannot wait for Rourke’s story next!

This book is the perfect summer read and had me laughing within the first few pages.

I loved lauren and her sunny personality, she is such a go-getter. She is the PR manager for the Carolina Crushers and threatens the players with participating in ridiculously funny videos.

Tate, aka sheriff, despises being in the center of attention, which makes him seem grumpy, but in reality, he doesn't like crowds and people (and honestly, same).
But after a minor PR disaster, his public image is in need of revamping. As Lauren works her PR magic, she is in need of a fake boyfriend to take to her family's reunion summer camp. Enter Tate, who is happy to help 😉. Their whole dynamic is filled with chemistry, banter, and so many funny moments.

I loved how Tate helped Lauren through the difficult moments with her family. He heard her concerns and also was so understanding. Lauren really had to fight through her fears and figure out what she really wanted in life. But Tate was so steady and stable for her, helping her with realizing what she wanted and being so supportive. Each moment when he called her Sunny was swoon-worthy.

I 100% recommend this gorgeous book. It was the perfect hockey romance, full of banter, chemistry, and chaotic family moments.

🏒 Perfectly Grumpy by Grace Worthington

A sunshine PR queen. A misunderstood hockey player. One fake relationship—plus family chaos, healing, and unexpected heart.

📚 Plot Snapshot
When upbeat publicist Lauren agrees to a fake relationship with stoic, rules-loving hockey player Tate, it’s only meant to boost his public image and help her save face. But cramming into a too-small cabin during a wild family reunion—with competitive games, nosy relatives, and a shared past—makes pretending a lot harder than either of them expected. Slowly, fake turns into something painfully real.

🖋 Writing Style Vibe
• Snappy + Heartfelt + Rom-Com Warmth
• Breezy pacing with lively banter and tender emotional moments
• Clean, cozy romance that balances humor with genuine vulnerability
• Perfect for fans of fake dating, found family, and healing through love

❤️ My Highlights
✨The family reunion chaos was a blast! From awkward group games to heartfelt late-night chats, it brought warmth and depth to the story.
✨I loved the slow-burn connection between Lauren and Tate. He’s not truly grumpy—just misunderstood—and seeing her break through his walls was so satisfying.
✨Lauren’s grief over her mom’s passing was tenderly handled, and the way the reunion helped her reconnect with her family and herself was both moving and uplifting.
✨Tate was such a refreshing MMC—quiet, steady, respectful. He never tried to fix Lauren’s grief, just offered presence and patience.
✨I also appreciated the subtle commentary on being misjudged, and how love isn’t always loud—it can be quiet, steady, and sincere.

🤔 What Fell Flat (if anything)
The pacing at the start was a little slow, and it took time to feel fully immersed, but once the reunion began, the story really found its rhythm.

⭐ Final Rating + Shelf Status
★★★★☆ (4/5)
A solid keeper. Sweet, satisfying, and warm enough to revisit again.

💭 My Thoughts
Out of the series, this may just be my favorite. While the fake dating setup is familiar, what made this story shine was its emotional grounding, particularly how it explored grief, misjudgment, and self-worth. The family scenes were rich and fun, but also meaningful. And I couldn’t help but root for Tate, a quietly wonderful man who respected boundaries, listened well, and made Lauren feel safe. This wasn’t just a romance—it was a story about being seen and chosen, even when life feels messy.

💕 The Swoon Scale 💕

Perfectly Grumpy by Grace Worthington is the third book in her Perfect Crush Hockey Romance Series but can be read as a standalone. I do recommend you read them in order as they are interconnected and all so great. Perfectly Grumpy is told from a dual POV, following Tate "Sheriff" Foster and Lauren "Sunny" Williamson. Lauren is the PR manager for the Carolina Crushers. Tate is a grumpy defenceman for the Crushers. Lauren works closely with Tate to help rebuild his image during the hockey off-season. When Lauren finds out her cousin is bringing Lauren's ex to the upcoming family reunion as her date, Tate offers to be her plus one. Lauren and Tate's chemistry and dynamics were perfection. I absolutely devoured this book. It is my new favorite by Grace. Grace had become one of my top go-to authors for sweet romcoms. I can not wait to read more from her.

No way,” he says, looking straight at me with a confidence that’s suddenly more attractive than it has any right to be. When did Sheriff Serious become Mr. Funny and Cute? “It takes a bold man to admit that,” I say as we stop in front of the feminine products section. “If I can flirt with you here, I can flirt with you anywhere.” He grabs a package off the shelf. “Besides, some guys bring flowers, I bring maximum absorbency for your family reunion.”

“So,” she says, clearing her throat and turning away from me. “What do we do now?” I contemplate for a second and reply, “I could think of a few ideas.” She tilts her head. “Are you trying to be smooth right now, Sheriff?” “Smooth has never been my strong suit,” I admit. “But for the record, you’re the one who told me to take my shirt off.” “I told you to hang it up to dry,” she says. “There’s a difference between common sense and … whatever this is.”

“Because love doesn’t replace. It layers. One memory over another. And I think your mom would’ve wanted me to be happy. Just like she would’ve wanted that for you.”

Grace Worthington, you absolutely blew me away with this story ! Yay! It has lots of feels and real cute moments that are typically you and they’re so enticing and excitingly funny too. Tate Foster is a grumpy hockey player and Lauren is a sunshine gal that can do PR well. And Tate needs all the good publicity he can muster because of late he’s been all bluster ,not turning up for media interviews and the like ,he’s usually took a hike ! It’s up to Lauren to whip him into shape and she isn’t about to fail Tate ,so you’d better take notice ! He is appreciative of her efforts and in fact when her ex shows up throwing himself into her family plans , he offers to fake date her at a minutes notice,it’s the least he can do. So they ,well.. do. Fake date I mean and the consequences are heavenly, and ever so much fun too. Family Olympics! I adore these two!! Those antics and only one sofa bed between them! How frantic is she ,but now let’s not be silly she can be around the man without anything untoward or awkward occurring ,even though she has old feelings a stirring. They must be doomed into falling for each other they are fated to be together . Not over the moon but. Oh brother! Well it seems that way whether the grumpy guts likes it or not…well she hopes it was his lips that planted on her face when she woke up! Maybe they should tie the knot too ,then what would he do, cos he ain’t running away . I think he’s here to stay . And a canny lass is our gal Lauren too because she has this crush and doesn’t know what to do.Sweet faking dating charms especially when she falls into his arms . Her ex you see hijacked her family party so she wasn’t about to turn up alone like Sally no mate was she? It made sense but ooh it’s intense the pulse between them both but they did swear an oath… Brilliantly entertaining as all Grace’s storytelling is ,ever so compelling it is too . Phew ! Wonderful prose and still wearing clothes ! 😉 Well done that author who has the prowess to keep us reading for hours with her love stories so devout with nothing left out it’s so immersive and not at all cursive. Perfectly sublime. I had a great time reading this. It was absolute bliss!

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️

Perfectly Grumpy, the third book in Grace Worthington’s Perfect Crush Hockey Romance series, is a fantastic read. She never fails to impress me with her storylines, character development, and the amount of sizzle she can ‘bring to a book through heated glances, electrifying touches, and must have kisses. She is a definite comfort author of mine that never fails to bring me exactly what I need with her books.

Insert foot here. A common expression most of us are familiar with. Tate, our MMC, does just this at the beginning of his story and needs help in fixing the situation. The PR he has to work with has never impressed him and he isn’t sure if she’s going to be able to fix this the way he wants. But what choice does he have? As her PR “scheme” gets underway, he finds himself enjoying his time with her and realizing there is more to her than what he knows.

Lauren isn’t thrilled about working with a hockey player who is outspoken when it comes to how she runs her campaigns. She knows she can do her job well, but isn’t sure if it will come across that way when Tate keeps fighting her at every turn. As their work meetings turn into spending time together and she gets to know the man behind the hockey gear, she realizes she likes him. When Tate steps up to help her through a family reunion, she isn’t ready for the weekend to end and their pretending has to end.

Grace never fails to write characters that I find myself rooting for and loving all around. And not just her MCs, but her side characters burrow their way into my heart as well, making me hopeful for their stories later on down the road. I have enjoyed every book of this series and each book brings something special to the series. If you haven’t read any of Grace’s books yet; what are you waiting for?! She is a wonderful author and puts so much heart and passion into every book she writes.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Perfectly Grumpy
by Grace Worthington
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

RECAP:
Tate Foster is a grumpy, introverted hockey player who’d rather be reading romance novels than dealing with the spotlight. When his PR rep, Lauren, needs a fake boyfriend to get through an awkward family reunion, Tate reluctantly agrees to play the part. As they navigate the charade, their playful banter and unexpected chemistry spark real feelings neither of them saw coming.

REVIEW:
Having loved the first two books in this series, I picked up Perfectly Grumpy already expecting it to be the perfect hat trick, and it definitely scored! From the very first chapter, I knew I was in for another fun, flirty, feel-good ride. There’s just something about Tate, the bookish, brooding hockey player with a secret soft side, that completely won me over. Add in the fact that he’s secretly a bookworm and awkward in the most endearing way, and he’s definitely on the roster of my favorite book boyfriends.

Lauren, on the other hand, is all confidence and fire, and I am here for it. I really enjoyed the “help me save face in front of my family” premise for their fake relationship, because who doesn’t love awkward dinners with nosy relatives? The banter between them had me grinning like a fan in the front row, and I gobbled up every little glance and almost-maybe moment.

What I loved most, though, was how both Tate and Lauren grew throughout the story. There were plenty of light, funny moments, but also a surprising amount of depth. Grace Worthington really nails that mix of heart and humor, and it kept me turning the pages way too late into the night.

Thank you @graceworthingtonauthor and @bookedwiththeemilys for the #gifted copy of this book and for the opportunity to read and review it. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

ARC REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Working as the Public Relations Manager for the Carolina Crushers, Lauren Williamson, spends her days strategically creating social media content. While the majority of her work days are filled with filming viral videos and producing thirst-trap photos of the AHL players, she is no stranger to handling a scandal. So when Tate “Sheriff” Foster (defenseman) accidentally upsets a hockey bigwig, Lauren concocts a plan to save his reputation and career. With Tate unwilling to comply with her requests, the two become entangled in a battle of wills. Will the pair be able to smooth things over during their brief off-season, or will their stark personality differences cause division for the team?

Perfectly Grumpy by Grace Worthington is the third book in her Perfect Crush Hockey Romance Series. This series is comprised of standalone novels that feature character crossovers from this and previous series (Renovation Romance and Love on Thin Ice) of hers. While every book features a MMC who plays hockey, the books primarily focus on the love stories.

This book was a standout read for so many reasons, but the biggest one being Tate “Sheriff” Foster. Tate is both an enigma and paradox rolled into one. While his career forces him to remain in the spotlight, he would love nothing more than to hide away in the shadows. On top of it all, the “defenseman” is artistic but logical, sensitive but strong, bookish but worldly, protective but vulnerable, etc. His inability to confined by traditional social norms made him the ultimate book boyfriend!

Read this book if you enjoy:
-grumpy/ sunshine
-opposites attract
-fake dating
-hockey
-clean romance

Special thanks to Poets and Saints Publishing and Grace Worthington for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is by far my favorite book featuring the Carolina Crushers from @graceworthingtonauthor!

"I completely misjudged him at first, mistaking his resistance for grumpiness, when all along he was just uncomfortable being molded into someone he’s not."

THIS RIGHT HERE. ⤴️

Grumpy-sunshine is not always my favorite trope because sometimes the grumpy character is just mean, and the jump from that to a believable love story is really hard. This time, our grumpy MMC, Tate, is just a hard core introvert who is completely fine telling things like they are, thinking logically and doesn't need his life on display, even as a professional athlete. And the FMC, Lauren, doesn't come in thinking she is going to change him. In fact, it takes a little "backup boyfriend" action to get Lauren to break her rules about dating athletes, especially hockey players she works with. The friendship they develop while repeatedly stepping in and "saving" one another is the really special part of this story. It was so lovely that I didn't even mind the slow burn.

"We might be different people, but grief is universal. And when you find someone else that gets it, it’s a gift."

It takes some time for both of them to break their dating rules, especially when walls are up and they both think they are terrible at dating. But this story is a gift; the beauty in the brokenness. There is tons of chemistry, hilarious moments, and sweet asides. There's a lot to work out, and there are some heavy themes, but the romcom aspect really shines. I'll always take a romcom with a little grit, and this new story from Grace is AWESOME!

I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.

There has never been a better pairing of a grump versus sunshine duo than the two main characters in this book.

Tate Foster is an outstanding hockey player, but he is so much more with his Clark Kent glasses and his very large, logical brain. For Tate everything is black and white. There is no gray area. That big brain of his is full of useless facts that he spouts off on a regular basis to anyone who will listen. He is also a rigid rule follower which is how he has been nicknamed the Sheriff. All of these things together make him a PR nightmare, along with his hatred of any kind of public attention and dealing with the media. This in turn makes this hunky hockey player look more than a little grumpy.

Lauren is the polar opposite of Tate with her sunshiny personality. She is the PR manager for the Crushers, and she knows giving Tate a new, more likable public look will be quite the task, but Lauren loves a challenge.

This book was so much fun to read with so many laugh out loud moments. The PR stunts she comes up with caused me to chuckle as I could just imagine the look on Tate's face. Then an encounter with a mouse and a frying pan had me laughing like a complete lunatic.

There were some very dramatic a/k/a sad moments as Lauren and Tate realize they have much more in common than they realized.

The swoon factor is red hot. The characters are incredible with Lauren's Granny being one of my favorites. An adorable puppy is the cherry on top.

You do not want to miss this diamond. However, do not plan anything else for your evening once you start reading because this book is most assuredly binge worthy.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
