So, I picked up Hidden Power thinking I’d get a cool paranormal story with some emotional drama. What I didn’t expect? Was to be wrecked. Like…full-on, crying at midnight, hugging my pillows kind of wrecked.

Amber’s story hit way too close to home. I don’t usually talk about this, but someone I love went through something really similar being gaslit, trapped, and made to feel like they were “crazy” when they were really just hurting. Watching Amber rise from that literally blasting her way out with psychic power felt like watching my loved one reclaim herself all over again. I kept whispering, “Yes. YES.”

Laurie Bowler didn’t just write a book about supernatural powers she wrote about reclaiming yourself when everything’s been taken from you. And she did it with so much empathy, intensity, and heart. I honestly felt like she knows. Like she wrote this not just for entertainment, but for survivors.

The bond between Amber and Samantha also destroyed me in the best way. If you’ve got a sister, you’ll feel this in your soul.

This isn’t just a story. It’s a whole experience and if you’ve ever doubted your strength, it’s also a little reminder that you’ve got more power inside you than you think.

Okay, so here’s what I loved most about Hidden Power: it’s not afraid to get messy. Laurie Bowler doesn’t sugarcoat trauma. She writes it honestly, but she also shows how it doesn’t have to define you. That combo? Chef’s kiss.

Amber’s journey is about more than just discovering she has psychic powers. It’s about healing, about waking up to the truth of what’s been done to her and deciding that it doesn’t get to control her anymore. And you know what? That’s one of the most real things I’ve ever read in a fantasy book.

I grew up being told to “tough it out” or “not make a big deal” about stuff. So reading about Amber finally owning her voice and then literally shaking the earth when she does? I felt that. In my bones.

And then there’s Samantha—loyal, stubborn, brave-as-hell Samantha. Their sister bond reminded me of the way my best friend and I have supported each other through hell and back. It’s not always pretty, but it’s unbreakable.

I want to hug Laurie Bowler for writing something so honest, thrilling, and empowering. It’s paranormal with soul. If you like your fantasy laced with truth, read this.

Hidden Power is a well-crafted book with few noticeable issues in spelling, punctuation, and format, making it easy and smooth to read.

The characters are thoughtfully developed, each bringing a unique purpose to the plot. Though a few interactions seem slightly forced, their dialogue generally flows well and reflects their personalities.

The storyline itself unfolds at a steady pace, making it easy to stay engaged. Each scene connects logically to the next, providing a clear path through the plot. The book maintains a balance of tension and resolution, which held my attention without feeling overwhelming.

If you want a story that will take you on a ride of your life with plenty of thrills along the way then this one is for you. A truly engaging and creative novel.

Hidden Power is not just a typical fantasy Ya book but one that has a lot of unique elements tied in. The dynamic between Amber and Samantha is perfect balancing their characters roles splendidly throughout the book. One of the my favourite parts is where the characters are trying to develop Samantha's magic, this part is so descriptive and brilliantly written that you will be taken on an adventure. Every part of this book I loved. A plot that will take you on an emotional ride with a lot of action and side characters entering the overall plot. This is a fabulous book to read and one that I want to read again just because I love it.

I took this book on holiday with me, and I am so glad I did. I loved the dynamics between Amber and Samantha and how they stuck together so she could develop her magic skills. Amber's death at the start was really awful, and I shed some tears, especially when she questioned why her friends decided to kill her in the first place or why they even bothered to be her friends. It was fun to explore the realm of travelling they did together and how they built friendships even though one was a ghost. This is such a fantastic story everyone would love to read.

Hidden Power is a wonderful book that delves into the journeys of its two main characters. Samantha undergoes a transformative experience as a whole new world unfolds before her. She must navigate various aspects of her life and heed the spirit of Amber, who tragically met her demise at the beginning of the book and seeks revenge. I especially enjoyed the easy-to-read and descriptive writing style, as well as the accidental travels through different realms. Overall, it's a fantastic read.

The book really was not for me , although I am sure for others it will be a great read. I had a hard time with the graphic details and wish it would have come with some trigger warnings and I think it may need some more proof reading for grammatical errors. With saying that I still think the book deserves a 3 star rating from me.

Oh, Amber and Samantha's story is something else! Their bond is so special, especially with Samantha working on her magic thanks to Amber's support. And oh, when Amber passed away at the beginning, it really tugged at my heartstrings. It made me wonder, just like Amber did, about the true meaning of friendship when she asked those tough questions. But you know what? Their adventures and how they make new friends, even with Amber being a ghost, brought a big smile to my face. This tale is a heartwarming journey that's sure to win over anyone who gives it a read!
