Mother’s voice rings in my ears as I stand perfectly still in the darkness, fearing that each breath I take will be my last. I’m crouched down in the closet with blood on my hands, my legs and back aching to move, even an inch.
But I can’t. One twitch, one cramp, and I’ll bang into a shelf and give myself away.
When Stefan Zeigler swept me off my feet four months ago, I had to fight the voice in my head telling me that my new boyfriend was too good to be true: handsome, wealthy enough to own a home in the Hamptons...and totally into me.
Or was that Lucy’s voice, my gal pal attorney friend who doesn’t need a man to live large? Or my mom’s voice, warning me of controlling prenups and the dangerous secrets of the superrich?
I’d always dreamed of a better life, and working my way there wasn’t going so well for me, with my pile of student loan debt, a rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan I could barely afford, and a stable but low-paying PR job.
Is it so bad that I dared to believe in a fairy tale ending, even after I found out about his felon brother? Or his nefarious business associate? Or the fact that his last girlfriend looked a lot like me—and seems to have vanished into thin air?
But now I see that fairy tales have a dark underbelly beneath the glitter, just like my life right now. I’m Erin. I got what I wished for. I’m a rich guy’s wife now.
And it just might be the death of me.
A twisty, unputdownable domestic thriller full of psychological suspense, perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Kaira Rouda, Emily Shiner, Daniel Hurst, and John Marrs.
I'm so excited for this book! As a former single woman who has dated in Manhattan, this was a fun book for me to write. If you enjoyed SWIPE, you'll probably like this one, too. If you're new to my novels, I write page-turner suspense/thrillers with strong but relatable female protagonists and morally ambiguous characters. My books are not the darkest for a thriller, but some are darker than others. This one is on the lighter side, but it's still a thriller, so expect murder, betrayal, intrigue, and all the ingredients that keep readers turning the pages.
Erin has lived her entire life with her nose pressed up against the glass. The daughter of a single mom who served Manhattan's superrich, she vowed that one day she would make it to the other side. So when a handsome, wealthy guy sweeps her off of her feet, she goes with it, despite the warnings of her mom and best friend. Is Stefan the man of her dreams, or is something off about this guy?
P.S. I got the idea for this book years ago when my friend was dating a Hamptons billionaire. She didn't end up in a closet with blood on her hands, I promise. But let's just say it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Be careful what you wish for...
Erin Donovan grew up with limited means, but a scholarship to a prestigious preparatory school gets her in with the in crowd, and she’s now in middle management and living in Manhattan. Her best friend Lucy, a lawyer, prefers to keep men at arm’s length, but Erin has always had the dream of being a rich guy’s wife. Lucy keeps warning her about rich men being more trouble than they’re worth, but Erin treats looking for a wealthy husband like a job. One night, her hard work pays off.
She and Lucy were out at a bar when Erin notices a man in the corner. Right away, she can tell he is old money - the suit, the posture, and the confidence in his eyes gives it away. Eventually, Stefan approaches her and offers to buy her a drink, but they end up going to dinner instead. It turns out that he’s in the art world like she is, he has a house in the Hamptons and indeed, comes from a very wealthy family. He’s also quite sexy, and it’s not long before Erin has a sleepover at his Hamptons home.
The next morning, she’s shocked by a muscular man walking into the house, acting like he owns the place. It turns out to be Tanner, Stefan’s half-brother, and he’s wearing an ankle monitor. Afraid she’s in a house with a criminal, she starts to freak out, but Stefan explains the situation. Tanner was convicted of selling forged artwork, and is out on house arrest for a couple more months. He’s staying in the guest house, then he’ll be heading back to his home in Los Angeles.
This book is the story of what it’s like being a rich man’s wife, and it’s also a story about art forgery, especially of pieces the Nazis stole during World War II. Told from the points of view of Erin and Madison, the woman who lives next door and is cheating on her husband with Tanner, we get a very suspenseful story of wealth and power. Erin’s mother always told her that rich people have their own sets of problems, and she realizes her mother was right - but it’s too late; she and Stefan are already married, prenup signed and ironclad. The more she learns, the more she feels that she is in serious danger, and she doesn’t know how to get out of it.
I really liked the writing in this book, and it was definitely a page turner. While thriller stories about wealthy families with secrets are a dime a dozen, this had a unique feel, and I enjoyed Erin’s character. The extra drama around Madison and Tanner, as well as the art, made this quite suspenseful, and the ending was great! Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and in time, you’ll see why. Four stars.
(Thank you to Pathways Publishing, Bonnie Traymore and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on September 19, 2025.)
In this domestic thriller we follow the perspectives of Erin and sometimes Madison. I didn’t find the story very good because I was bored at times during the read. Moreover, the ending was predictable and just fine.
Thank you netgalley for the early access to the book.

Erin Donovan is swept off her feet by Stefan Ziegler after a chance meeting in a bar, she suspects he is too good to be true as he is handsome, wealthy enough to own a home in the Hamptons and totally into her. Erin comes from humble beginnings, she has a rent controlled apartment, a stable but low paying job but she dreams of more. Ever heard the saying be careful what you wish for? Erin is about to discover firsthand that being a rich man’s wife is not all it’s cracked up to be and that instead of entering into a fairytale she has walked into a nightmare.
This book was really good, it’s clear from the beginning that all not right with Stefan and that he is a man of many secrets. This book had a very steady pace as the tension builds and more secrets come to light, I did think Erin was a bit naive and she was looking at Stefan with rose tinted glasses. Most of the main characters are keeping secrets from each other and there is a lot of double crossing going on, Erin was out through the wringer a lot in this book and overall I highly enjoyed it as it was a really well written book. All the characters and their back stories were really well flashed out, my favourite character was Madison.
Traymore does a great job of keeping the reader confused, constantly going back and forth between thinking Erin is paranoid, and Stefan really is Prince Charming, and maybe he really is a scary man hiding lots of secrets, who is using Erin for some nefarious, unknown purpose. I enjoyed watching them meet, then date, and then begin married life even with so many questions circulating. It’s a complicated mystery with many different dangling threads, and Traymore weaves them masterfully. A talented author with a juicy story! I highly recommend.
I was on a thriller high when I picked this up—coming off the back of three other thrillers. After reading the blurb, it reminded me of a favorite webtoon of mine, so I knew I had to give it a shot.
Unfortunately, I had just finished Hojay’s latest book (which was absolutely phenomenal), so while this story was interesting, it fell a bit short in comparison. It gave me a strong sense of déjà vu.
Erin jumped at the chance to be a rich guy’s wife and completely abandoned the people who truly cared about her, which made her hard to root for. This was actually my first time reading a domestic thriller, and despite some frustration with the characters, the ending was solid—and surprisingly satisfying.

Overview The Rich Guy’s Wife is a fast-paced domestic thriller that follows the lives of two women, Madison and Erin, whose seemingly glamorous worlds are built on secrets, lies, and appearances. Told in dual perspectives, the story primarily centres on Erin, who begins to suspect that things in her carefully curated life aren’t quite what they seem. As tensions rise and facades begin to crack, both women are forced to confront uncomfortable truths about the people closest to them and about themselves. The book fits firmly into the domestic suspense / psychological thriller genre, with tropes such as dual POV, wealthy suburban drama, secrets and lies, unreliable appearances, and “who can you trust?” tension.
My thoughts I found The Rich Guy’s Wife to be a really quick, engaging read. The fast pacing worked well for this kind of story and kept it consistently entertaining - I always wanted to read “just one more chapter” to see what would happen next. The dual perspectives from Madison and Erin, with Erin as the main protagonist, added a nice layer of tension as I tried to work out who was putting on an act, who could be trusted, and what was actually going on behind the scenes. I especially enjoyed the mystery element, which kept me intrigued and on edge throughout. That said, I was expecting a bigger final twist at the end. I had built up in my head a scenario where Madison would be revealed as the true villain who had murdered Stefans ex and was setting the brothers up. Instead, the actual reveal felt fairly tame, without that big jaw-dropping moment (or another one) that I’d anticipated. It didn’t ruin my enjoyment, but it did make the ending feel a little less impactful compared to the tension that had been building. Overall though, this was a fun, fast, and compelling thriller, and I flew through it because I genuinely wanted to know what was going on. Even without a massive final twist, it absolutely delivered on pace and entertainment.
The Rich Guy’s Wife was a fun, well-written, mild thriller with good characters and a solid storyline. I particularly enjoyed the relationship between Stefan and Erin—it was both intense and challenging, and the author portrayed it with a believable mix of tension and depth. While I would have loved a few more “twists” and a slightly darker edge to the plot, it was still an engaging read from start to finish.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Bonnie Traymore for the opportunity to read an eARC of The Rich Guy’s Wife in exchange for an honest review.
At first, I found the book a little slow and had trouble connecting with the characters. There wasn’t an immediate hook, and Stefan in particular irritated me—I couldn’t tell whether he was a victim or not, and his role left me confused.
It also took some time to figure out how Maddison’s actions and her relationship with Erin fit into the bigger picture. But once things picked up, I was hooked. The suspense became really gripping, and by the end, I was completely invested. I was totally shocked by how the girls reacted at the end—I did not see that coming!
I still don’t know if Maddison was acting out of genuine concern or if she had a deeper motive, and that ambiguity actually made the story more intriguing. I loved how the focus stayed strong on the female protagonists throughout.
Even though this is my first book by Bonnie Traymore, I really enjoyed her writing style. It’s different from what I usually read, but in a refreshing way. I finished the book in under 24 hours! My only real criticism is that the ending felt a bit rushed—if it had been drawn out just a little more, this would’ve been a five-star read.
Overall, a fast-paced, twisty thriller with complex women at the center—I’ll definitely check out more from this author!
I felt as I was reading there were a few spots I was getting bored but once you got to the meat of the drama those “boring” parts made all the sense!!
The end really picked it up for me! I did figure it out or at least have a big instinct on the who but everything around it I was still shocked. I feel like there were some holes to fill still but overall a good one!
Such a good book. I chose it for the cover art, but the story sucked me in from the start. I finished it in less than 24 hours, which is quick for a busy mom. Lots of twists, but nothing too crazy or implosible. I didn't expect the ending. The last few chapters flew by. Great book for a quick mystery/suspense fan.
Erin Donovan is a woman determined to escape her working-class roots by marrying into wealth. When she meets Stefan—a mysterious, well-connected man—she thinks she’s found the life she’s always wanted. But when a surprise pregnancy, a hasty wedding, and a suspicious death collide, Erin begins to question who she married.
This is a quick and easy read, with short, cliffhanger-filled chapters that keep the pace moving. However, the plot lacks depth. The suspense elements feel underdeveloped, and several promising storylines—like stolen art, family secrets, and Stefan’s shady business—are glossed over. Erin herself is hard to root for, as she actively ignores every red flag waved in her face.
While the premise had potential, the ending and epilogue felt rushed and incomplete, leaving too many loose ends and unanswered questions. A few character arcs, like Lucy and Madison’s, could have been more impactful with additional focus. Overall, this felt like a draft with potential that needed another layer of polish to shine truly.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pathway Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
”In New York City, if you’re not filthy rich, you’re poor.”
Erin Donovan has always been ambitious, determined to leave behind her humble roots and marry a wealthy man. Her best friend, Lucy, comes from money and can’t quite understand Erin’s desperate need to escape but she tries to be supportive. Then Erin meets the mysterious Stefan, a man from a wealthy German family who could offer her the life she’s always dreamed of.
”Be careful what you wish for…”
But as Erin begins to peek behind the curtain, she quickly realizes there’s more to Stefan and his family than meets the eye: a long list of suffocating expectations and a dark, unsettling past.
”I got what I wished for. I’m a rich guy’s wife now. And it just might be the death of me.”
This is the third book I’ve read by Bonnie Traymore, and her domestic thrillers always feel fresh to me. The multiple POVs keep the suspense alive and provide plenty of twists that leave me guessing. One thing I’ve learned—nothing is ever as it seems; and once again, Bonnie delivered! While the ending felt a little rushed, overall this was another highly entertaining read.

4.5/5 Stars I've been reading tons of thrillers lately, and knew I wanted one that dealt with a rich husband and a mystery so when I saw the blurb for this I got excited. This book was exactly what I needed in the moment and filled the quota of what I wanted. Erin was an interesting character, and I could see why she wanted to be a rich man and I loved how she progressed over the story. And I honestly found it interesting that although she seemed stubborn, she gave into Stefan so easily for certain things. I felt that was totally off for her character. The writing style was good, and the build up and suspense was perfect for this domestic thriller. Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
“The Rich Guy’s Wife” was a well-written and engaging domestic thriller with a compelling premise and smooth pacing. The writing style is clear and accessible, and the characters are developed enough to hold interest. However, the story lacked the distinctiveness or emotional depth to truly set it apart from others in the genre.
I’d certainly be interested in reading more from Bonnie Traymore. I’d recommend this domestic thriller to readers who appreciate a slow-burn mystery, are newer to the genre, or are seeking a lighter, more accessible read without heavy graphic content or intense emotional weight.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The Rich Guys Wife by Bonnie Traymore This book had me engaged from the first page, I loved the characters, the plot and the author's writing style. I really like how the author describes her characters and develops throughout the novel This was a really page turner and I'll continue to read this author's books
Twists on twists and turns. Not a wasted sentence or location!
Can't put it down reading, yet light! Character development could be more extensive, but unnecessary. So many psychological Mexican stand offs in the Hamptons, yet! This could be a dark comedy, directed by Woody Allen!
Thank you to Bonnie Traymore, BookGoSocial, and Netgalley for the ARC. My review is voluntary, and any opinions are my own.
This was a very intriguing story! The story just kept building momentum until the climatic ending. It was a fast read. It grabbed my attention and held on until I finished it.
Reading about Erin, Madison, Stefan and Tanner as well as the other characters held my attention until the end. There were a number of twists that kept me thinking and trying to piece things together and it made for an enjoyable read.
What a suspenseful psychological thriller that has you stuck on your couch until the surprising & unexpected conclusion. The prologue really sets the tone for the novel & the twists & turns will have your head spinning. All Erin has been wishing for since she was a young girl is to be a rich man’s wife & when it finally happens she’s on top of the world…or is she? Is being a rich man’s wife really all it’s cracked up to be…well Erin is about to find out. Here’s a fair warning to all “be careful what you wish for because it just might come true”! But the real question is…do you really want it to?.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is one of them books you make sure you have a free day or you're up all night because you wont be able to put the book down. Swipe written by this author was also a hard to put down book so I should've known this would be the same.
This authors writing style is perfect!
thank you netgalley and the publishers for the earc
I devoured this in one sitting! The characters were great and the plot was so dang twisty! I never knew what was going to happen next and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The world that was built was perfect and every little detail helped keep you in that world. The pace was perfect and the writing was done really well. I’ll be reading more from Bonnie!
My favorite book of Bonnie Traymore’s so far! “The Rich Guy’s Wife” is a gripping thriller that pulled me in from the very first page. The suspense builds steadily and masterfully throughout, keeping me on edge and eager to find out what would happen next. With sharp writing, well-paced twists, and just the right amount of tension, this was a true page-turner—I didn’t want to put it down! Be careful what you wish for…
I really feel like the problem with this book is that it is being pulled in too many directions at once, and since none of the characters OR story-lines are particularly well thought out, it makes becoming invested in the any of them even harder.
First up we have Erin, a girl who holds down a steady job and has her own apartment. And despite what the blurb would lead you to believe; she seems comfortable enough if not particularly well off. But she wants more. Specifically she wants to be the wife of a rich man. Despite her mother's warnings. Despite her best friend telling her she doesn't need a man (but of course Erin finds it hard to take said friend seriously since her friend comes from money and has a friends with benefits relationship with a man). I'm not even sure I ever really understood why she wanted that sort of lifestyle other than her mother used to work at a place that catered exclusively to rich people and Erin envied them.
Erin ends up getting swept off her feet by Stefan. Tall, dark, handsome. You know the type. He's also incredibly rich, so bonus points for him. Except even Erin complains about his hot and cold behavior towards her. He goes off on a business trip right after they sleep together and barely contacts her while he's gone. They see each other maybe once a week or so. But again, he's rich, so she overlooks everything she feels is wrong about him. In fact, she even decides at one point to play his game and make herself "less available" to him. Whatever.
Stefan convinces Erin to come away with him for what was supposed to be a weekend getaway to his home in the Hamptons (but ends up only being one night as Erin magically events plans for the next day to I don't know put him in his place or something). While there we are then introduced to Tanner (Stefan's half-brother who has a huge chip on his shoulder about something that makes no sense, but that I will get to in a minute), and Madison (the neighbor who is also the wife of a rich man, but who is also having an affair with Tanner).
Throw in a few more minor characters who are only there to move the plot forward (and who could have been much more integral to the plot than they were), and there you have your cast of characters.
Now for the plot and it's many, many flaws. Let's start off with one of the biggest ones in my opinion. Tanner's hatred for Stefan. Yes, there are many reasons two half-brothers may hate each other, but Tanner seems to especially dislike Stefan over their inheritance. Which given the fact that their father is still very much alive makes no sense. It doesn't matter what the will does or doesn't specify, nor does it matter what the law specifies. No one is getting a thing until the old man dies.
Then there was the way the author had Tanner speak about his six month home-imprisonment sentence. He specifically tells Madison "If I went to trial, I'd have been acquitted, or maybe they would have figured out he was in on it. Six months is better than nothing." What do you mean six months is better than nothing when you might have been acquitted of the charges?
Later on, Erin and Stefan are out to dinner when they are approached by an acquaintance of Stefan's (a suspected criminal although his part is so minor I was never really sure what exactly he was supposed to have done), and after finding out that Erin deals with art (mainly marketing), he asks her for a business card and she gives him one. Then suddenly, everyone is worried that the man gave her a business card. Can we please keep these minimal facts straight?
And then we get to the ending. Where everything is revealed at a break-neck speed, and all of it was so predictable that I found myself rolling my eyes and wishing that certain subplots (that I can't talk about without giving away major spoilers) would have been better utilized as I feel like had even one of those been fleshed out more, I would have enjoyed this book a lot more than I did.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
I was drawn to The Rich Guy’s Wife by its intriguing blurb, and the book delivered exactly what I hoped for: a twisty, engaging mystery with well-drawn characters and a satisfying conclusion.
First Impressions The opening hooked me right away. The first chapter mirrors the blurb, then the narrative shifts back in time to slowly build up to that moment. It’s a clever structure that immediately creates tension while grounding the reader in the characters’ lives. From the start, the writing felt strong, with characters who were believable and easy to connect with.
Plot & Pacing The pacing is steady, with just the right amount of suspense to keep pulling me back in. This isn’t a breakneck thriller, but the story unfolds in a way that steadily tightens the tension. What impressed me most were the twists and turns sprinkled throughout. Every time I thought I knew where the story was heading, something shifted, keeping me on my toes and engaged until the very end.
Characters Erin is the heart of the novel, and her journey drives the story. I really enjoyed seeing her growth from the beginning to the end, and I found myself invested in how things would turn out for her. Madison’s chapters added a fresh perspective and filled in parts of the narrative Erin couldn’t cover, making the story feel fuller and more layered. Both Erin and Madison, along with the supporting cast, felt realistic—like people you might actually meet. Dialogue throughout was natural, adding to the sense of authenticity.
Writing Style & Atmosphere The prose is clear, smooth, and engaging. While the focus is on plot and character, the atmosphere builds nicely, especially as the tension ramps up toward the climax. It’s easy to picture the settings and situations, which helps draw the reader further into the unfolding drama.
Emotional Response By the final stretch, I couldn’t put the book down. While it’s not overly emotional, I did feel invested in Erin’s story, rooting for her as the tension grew. The mystery is well-constructed and leads to a satisfying conclusion, and the wrap-up after the climax ties things together nicely. . Content Warnings Violence and trauma (integral to the mystery, though not gratuitously graphic)
Final Thoughts The Rich Guy’s Wife is a smart, suspenseful mystery that balances character depth with an engaging, twist-filled plot. Fans of domestic thrillers, mysteries with layered perspectives, and character-driven suspense will likely enjoy this one.
I’d absolutely read more by this author, and I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a gripping mystery that keeps you guessing until the end
