The final reckoning has arrived. When the owner of a Scarborough cocktail bar is gunned down during a winter light show, DCI Tom Raven is drawn into a web of intimidation, vengeance, and a chilling connection to his own past.
As a vicious crime family infiltrates Scarborough’s businesses, evidence begins to mount, pointing at Raven himself. Suspended from duty and hunted by his own colleagues, he is forced underground to uncover the truth.
When his daughter Hannah is dragged into danger, the emotionally charged conclusion brings Raven full circle, forcing him to face the consequences of past choices. For Raven, this final case will cost everything – his reputation, his freedom, and possibly his life.
Set on the North Yorkshire coast, the Tom Raven series is perfect for fans of David J Gatward, J M Dalgliesh, Simon McCleave, and British crime fiction.

What a rollercoaster of a ride in this final instalment of the tom Raven series. I have loved this series from the very beginning with so many wonderful characters and plots. Tom Raven and his team are trying to solve a murder while Tom is also searching for a missing person. Old faces come out of the woodwork so to speak., and as the tension rises our hero needs to watch his back. not wanting to give too much of the plot away the ravens called had it all tension, suspense, murder and emotion and by the very end I had a tear or two.
thank you MS Morris for a totally wonderful series with lots of wonderful characters. I will miss this series so much.
It is almost a year since I read the previous book of this series but the main characters had been so well brought into the earlier books that it was easy to slip back into this episode in their lives.
Time has moved on at Scarborough Police and at the end of the week DI Dinsdale will be retiring, much to the delight of the other team members but he still has time to call in a debt from Raven.
Raven already has his hands full because of the murder of a local club owner during a crowded drone lights show. As the investigation widens old enemies with scores to settle come to light.
The series is one where the rest of the police team have had a part to play not only at work but also in their private lives. Here its no different with Jess wondering if she has blown it with her new boyfriend when she deserts him after hearing the gun shots at the lights display. Also Becca has to make a decision as to whether her future involves her ex who has returned from Australia or someone nearer at hand.
In my opinion it is the authors' skill that although these staff issues make such a broad framework for the series they don't detract from the main stories.
As with the other books (which you have to read first), tension builds to an exciting ending and as I see that I gave 5* to the previous book, I can hardly give less here..
This is the last book of a great series and I am looking forward to the start of the new one in May 2026.
The last in the DCI Tom Raven series and possibly the best. With romance , shocks and horror this book has it all. A gripping ending that keeps you turning the pages until the last. Highly recommended.
I regret investing the time to read this series. For an author to develop a character that you are invested in, and then to yank the rug out was absolutely cruel.
I hated this book. I have followed these characters throughout the series and to end it like this feels like a betrayal. It was completely unnecessary to kill off the main character at the end. You set us up for the culmination of a love story we have watched develop over the series and then destroy it. I will never invest my time in another book or series by these authors, knowing they will end something in such an awful way. They are good writers, but that is only one part of what makes a good series.
Spoilers ahead. I have enjoyed this series and looked forward to this book. I didn’t realize it was the last of the series until the sad ending for Raven. Of course, like everyone else, I was sure hoping fto read more with Raven and Becca finally getting together but the writers chose a different ending. It may have been more of a fitting ending for this dark character, but it made me so sad. I guess they have their reasons for ending it (and in this way) but it was a huge letdown as there could have been more adventures. The death scene didn’t quite seem believable that Raven could have been shot with that many people around. I recently read their other series (Bridget Hart) that also ended abruptly and had no idea going into it that it was the last in that series either.
I don't want to read a book where the hero dies in the end. Great series. Shitty end. I won't be reading future books by this duo. I don't reward authors that do this.

I am absolutely disgusted by the ending of this book/series. Raven dies at Harry’s hand. Despite the fact that armed officers could have stoped Harry. Despite the fact that Ray could have shot Harry. Despite the fact that the dog could have gotten to Harry one damn second earlier. It took a tortured series of unlikely events to force the ending of Raven’s death. There was nothing in this series that warranted his death. Raven may very well have had a flawed personality, and been tortured by demons, some of which were of his own making, and others by circumstances forced upon him; but he had a solution to those demons through Becca. I could go on, and on, over how horribly this series ended, but all would be variations on the same theme: protagonist undergoes positive growth and learns from his mistakes, but dies while the criminals get to live. Now, if the author wanted a better approach, it would’ve been for alternate endings; one ending as written, and the second with the dog saving Raven’s life and Raven beginning a new life with Becca. One thing I do know, is that I cannot trust this author to provide a series ending that I would find satisfactory. As such, I will no longer be reading any books by this author. Knowing now how this series ended, I would never have started reading it.

This was one of the worse in the series, and didn’t figure out till the end. It appears this husband and wife duo can only write a series for maybe 4 to 5 yrs before they run out of ideas. They did at least get up to 10 books for this series.
They have a new series now, and I won’t be reading that series. It’s like getting into a TV show, and it getting canceled.
When the blurb said that this was the final book in the series, I didn't believe that it would end in such a final manner. While I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others, it is a shock to have it end with Raven's death. I thought for sure he would be almost fatally wounded, but brought back, though unable to work as a police officer any more. I can appreciate wanting to create a final ending to a series and I applaud the author's bravery. I am not sure what they are doing, though as they haven't updated their other series about Bridget Hart in awhile.
I would have liked to have seen Gillian be more of a dark horse in her support of Raven.

I started this book with apprehension knowing it was going to be the very last book in this series. OMG what a way to end the series. Raven investigates the shooting of a man in the grounds of Scarborough Castle and it soon become clear that a dangerous crime gang are trying to infiltrate Scarborough. This book has everything. There's danger and there's romance and so much tension as the book charges to it's heart stopping conclusion in Peasholm Park. I have to admit that a few tears were shed at the end of this book, and I even feel emotional writing this review. I will miss Raven and the gang. If the authors are reading this then how about a book following Becca in her new job?
Why did Becca leave her car at Ellie's when she was not sure where she needed to go and then at the roundabout the flow of cars sounded the same - really?? I did not really agree with the Becca and Raven as a couple - there was a really big age difference - he is around 50 plus and she seems around 30 Nice ending for Becca It is not only Jess but a number of British mysteries have cars in bad shape mechanically. Her car dies and it is woe is me - you work for the police call dispatch and get someone to clear you off the roundabout.
I have very much enjoyed the Raven series, but there were a number of weaknesses in this final book, not least of which was the change in Raven's character from shrewd and focused to bumbling and confused.I am not against the ending itself. But to work it had to be sharp and dramatic. In fact the final action scene was melodramatic to the level of a 1950's children's comic. But I am a loyal follower of these joint authors and have advance ordered the first in their new series.
This has been a brilliant series, and the last of DCI Tom Raven. This book had everything in it, thrills, romance and good friends. What a way to end the series too, and even though when turning the pages you wondered how it would end, you half hoped he would survive, but then you would have wanted just one more book. So the ending was dramatic and for me sad, but Raven was his own man and this is what he would have wanted. So we bid a found farewell to Raven and wait for a new series. But thankyou for a wonderful series.
The book was very entertaining and kept the readers attention throughout. However, the ending brought me up short. I didn't want to lose the main character. In fact I'm feeling berefit over the character's ending. I don't want to say "goodbye". The whole series of books was worth reading and was better than watching movies on the TV. I was still hoping for more adventures starring the main character. So sad.
I love Raven and have enjoyed the series. I absolutely hate, with a passion, the final book. The last book left me upset. Yes, I realize it is just a story but to kill Raven off in the end was just terrible. I realize the concept of the ending but thought it was so unnecessary to kill him off. What was the point, to leave readers miserable? I read a lot of British mysteries, I don't expect happy endings but at least not such a miserable end. Just terrible!
I loved this series but was disappointed in the way Raven is treated in the end. There are a lot of intertwined characters from previous books in the series. There are several murders as well as threats to loved one, and for a time Raven is on the run from the police. As you read and see the connection you know the story is going to have a climax that will affect all the main characters, but I didn't see the ending. I will miss this series and Tom Raven.
I cannot believe the ending of this book has left me feeling sad. The death of Tom Raven at the hands of his nemesis has brought to an end a series of books in which you got to know his life and friends, his tenacity, and the loyalty he inspired. It's only a book I say, but what an author to be able to get the reader so involved. Will miss Tom Raven. Thankyou MS Morris.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in the DCI Tom Raven series; a really gripping ride through Scarborough! Feel quite bereft that the story has concluded… M.S.Morris are hugely talented authors - very much looking forward to their next work, set in Pembrokeshire 😃
Dci Tom Raven was the typical old school policeman. Dedicated, driven, honest .His army experiences shaped him as a man and even as a flawed character he was credible. I loved all the books and had a feeling that the ending would be as it was. Thank you M S Morris.
I know life isn't fair and it doesn't always provide happy endings, but did this have to be so damned miserable? Couldn't Raven simply have retired? As you can no doubt guess, I am not happy with the ending! It's the reason I'm only giving this book 3 stars.
No words will adequately capture my feelings when reading this book/series. I like murder mysteries and love Scarborough, Yorkshire, etc. Perfect escapism and entertainment.
I have loved the Raven series. The sad ending brought tears to my eyes. It was a realistic ending though. I am looking forward to M S Morris new series of books.
Excellent read to a very sound series - the characters stronger through each one .. this last one had a few moments of slight over explaining and obvious moves but then it came to a finale that is very strong
Spoiler Alert ‼️ This book had me in tears. It was a totally unexpected ending. I have read this series from the start and it was a slow burner but I became totally invested in the characters. Shall miss Raven

I have a clear picture of Tom Raven in my mind. He loved deeply. If he mistrusted you he will give you the chance to earn his trust. If he made a promise he tries his best to keep it. He will be missed!!
