The Conjurer and the Corpse

Rate this book
How do you solve a murder that hasn’t been committed yet?

When Alice Hawtree finds her own temporally displaced corpse in the study of her country house, Journeyman Magician Redwald de Cordonnay is called from the City of Athonstone to investigate.

Armed with his knowledge of obscure magic and crippling need for order, he travels to the distant village of Martingale-on-Trew, there to figure out who her future killer is and save her before it’s too late.

But in doing so Redwald must not only outrun the ticking clock, and the iron will of fate, but navigate the festering grudges at the village’s dark heart and face his own, literal, demons.

A must-read for fans of gaslamp fantasy, steampunk, and golden age detective stories. Contains language and injury detail.

About the author

C.E.Colemane is an author and lapsed lawyer from the Chilterns. When not writing mystery stories with a gaslamp fantasy twist, he can be found skulking through the rain-slicked alleyways of London, enjoying room-temperature pints in wood-panelled corners, or walking 1,500 miles across Europe.

Fantastic read! A brand new world to dive into, with well thought out characters, and twists and turns right up to the end. The main character really reminded me of someone too. Loved this book and would thoroughly recommend.

This isn’t my usual genre but I absolutely loved this book! The world of magic and mystery really drew me in and it had me guessing throughout all the twists and turns. A great take on the classic whodunnit and a wonderful debut novel! Hopeful that this becomes a series as can’t wait for the next one! Would thoroughly recommend to any reader.
