Love. Hate. Secrets. Lies.

All she had to do was stay away... but now, it's too late.

Gigi

My life was progressing nicely until my brother died. Since his death, I've ached to feel human again, and the feeling I gravitate towards most is danger.

I'd never experienced that feeling… until Harry St. James stumbled into my ex-boyfriend's house at three a.m., covered in blood.

It just so happens that his secrets hold the terror and release that I crave. And I'll stop at nothing to experience it.

Harry

Violence and crime are in my nature. I've devoted my life to a dark, twisted world in exchange for money and power. I'm one of the most notorious criminals in London, yet it's all worthless without her.

If I let Gigi Thomas get too close, it's only a matter of time before I bleed the purity in her dry.

She doesn't know everything about me. I've been keeping things from her. Dark secrets.

I know more about her family than I've let on.

And if she finds out, she'll kill me.

Secrets is a dark romance for mature listeners.

4.5🌟 This book was utterly addicting in so many ways!!!!❤️‍🔥 Definitely up there with my top dark romance books!

There was so much to unwrap in this book. We had; action, spice, tension, mystery, secrets🔪. My attention was instantly gripped with the storyline and the characters. I felt like the story was well written and the plot was so well developed.

The main characters, Harry and Gigi, are both part of The Circle, a group of London most notorious criminals sent on different heists💣. At times I felt like I was in the book with the characters as they went along on their missions as part of The Circle.

Harry St James! My god this man is instantly up there with every dark romance book boyfriend😮‍💨. He instantly screams dangerous but also has you swooning with his actions and when he opens his mouth. This man was down bad for Gigi. He was so possessive, instantly falling for Gigi but he also had a heart of gold. The chemistry between them both had me kicking my feet🔥. Let me tell you, you could cut that tension with a knife! He kept many secrets from Gigi which you could tell was to protect her but at times it backfired for him.

Gigi Thomas is the girl who is drawn to danger the same way a fisherman is lured in by a Siren. If you want a badass fmc then she is exactly that🔥. Gigi really struggled with her emotions when it came to the death of her brother, Jack, and the information she found out about him as the story progressed. She was also tied with her loyalties to The Circle’s rules and her feelings for Harry. Though utterly stupid with her actions at times, Gigi always had me intrigued. I feel like she was constantly one step ahead of everyone. She went from being a strong individual when joining The Circle to slowly losing herself and becoming someone she barely knew once the power of climbing the ranks consumed her. It was hard to watch her punish both herself and Harry with her actions, and push them further apart❤️‍🩹

I feel like this book constantly kept me on my toes with the twists and turns, wondering what was going to happen next👀. I loved the idea of trying to guess before it happened. It also gave Divergent vibes at times.

The ending!!!! I did not expect that at all but it was a great set up for what’s next to come. I’m genuinely excited to see where we go from here

Overall, this book was extremely well written and it was so easy to get hooked on the storyline and the characters. I highly recommend it❤️‍🔥

ARC READ.

My review:
This book is true dark romance and I liked the premise alot.

I did feel like this book was a bit too chaotic and back and forth and things felt like they came out of left field. I was confused at some points because I just shocked it went several ways because I didn't feel the internal monologue showed us that's where it was heading and that things weren't detailed enough. I don't know if im explaining myself well here lol.

I don't love the female MC, and found her to be annoying and entitled. I loved Harry though and the side characters.

I am keen to see where the sequel goes with this and redemption of characters.

Ok so this was lowkey bad. Let me tell you why:

1. It's not really enemies to lovers but more like strangers to lovers way too quickly
2. Progression is too steep, we get time jumps and gaps in the storyline that are not filled
3. I know the book is called "secrets" but I don't like wasting 600 pages on a mediocre story that leaves me confused and unsatisfied but without the motivation to move onto the next book 🙂‍↔️

Let's start from the beginning: I was intrigued by the plot at first and expecting somewhat of a spicy enemy to lovers set in a secret society context and I was looking forward to it.

We were off to a good start when the MFC talks about her ex saying "The only person I’ve had sex with in recent months is Greg, and it’s been so vanilla it’s practically flavourless." But then she goes on to have the most vanilla sex with the enemy 🫠. [Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️/5 at best]

About the society: to get in you need to pass a couple of initiations and prove your loyalty. Why? Because they are the most ruthless and cunning master mind criminals in all of Europe. Then how do you explain that the members end up doing the most amateur and botched jobs you've ever read about? 🤦🏻‍♀️

And when you go into a story thinking yay we have this super confident bad-ass MMC no one can mess with, only to find out that he's high key scared of his boss, it takes away quite a bit of the excitement. 😬

And let's also talk about the story in general as it lacks inner coherence, which extends to multiple dialogues in the book. There are some conversation that are so unrealistic and cringe that it breaks the fourth wall and you're looking around in your room thinking "what ???". Same is true for the plot holes in that you don't really know what and when something is happening. Cut to a new scene and it's like how did this happen from where we left off ?

And I get that characters have a change of heart and objectives change thought time, but I just felt like the three parts of the book lacked coherence in the way we think about the characters, the vibe of the setting and how it all fits into the bigger picture. 😵‍💫

And don't get me wrong, I'm all for mystery and secrets but I also enjoy the parts of a book in which they are revealed and we're not getting any of that here. The MCs even promise to each other "no more secrets" but then remain silent and not talk about anything literally a second after their promises. 🤡

So that when a big secret is revealed on the last page it's just utterly disappointing because you've trusted the process and you got nothing. Throughout it all I was waiting for things to make sense and mentally keeping up with the plot holes and following the ups and downs in the MCs relationship. But because we're left with even more questions at the end, I'm left being angry and not feeling motivated to pick up the sequel that might be equally long.

Guys when I tell you that this is my favourite book of all time (along with Six of Crows), I genuinely can not fully express how much I love this book and the characters. The plot had me so intrigued from the start and had me gripped as the story continued. There are so many twists and turns and the plot twist and the cliffhanger at the end ... omg it has me dying for the second book to release!!

If you love Haunting Adeline or the Never After series, this is THE BOOK for you! I genuinely don't think I will ever find a book as good as this again, it's left me with a bookish hangover but in the best way possible! Enemies to lovers with forbidden romance... chefs kiss!

I can't wait to return to the world when book 2 is released but seriously guys what are you waiting for? Time to read this!

This started out so strong and man I love Harry so much but I absolutely could not stand Gigi. She is absolutely insufferable.

Sadly, I think this one just missed the mark for me. I really wanted to love it but the back and forth “I need you” but “we can’t be together” drove me absolutely insane. I also felt like this book was so long but very little actually happened. Also I really disliked all the time jumps. It made the flow very confusing in my honest opinion.

I did LOVE MIA so much so I was sad to see she wasn’t in a lot of the book.

BUT what is going on with her parents and why didn’t we get anything from them at the end? I was really unsure why they were so mean to Gigi in the beginning? It felt pointless sadly.

Like I said. I really loved Harry and the spice was fantastic but this one just didn’t hit for me like I hoped 😭

I didn’t care for the writing style. It was unusual, lacked cohesiveness in flow especially in the beginning. There was an element of your having had history of what she was writing about, even if you didn’t, coupled with lots of inner thinking. As such, I couldn’t immerse myself in the story. Lost interest within my threshold of 20%. The heroine was a horror of a person. DNF

The book is divided in 3 parts and I’ll be honest my favourite part was the first one. I’m always a huge fan of character introductions and I love to see and feel how the plot comes to life. The first part of the book was also very eerie and I seriously enjoyed every single thing about it! The drama was so good I was constantly on the edge of my seat! 😳

But I did struggle with the other two parts. Mainly with the second part since the Female MC Gigi got thrown into all the chaos and chose a path that I personally don’t enjoy in stories. While I was invested in the MMC Harry, I just couldn’t get into Gigi’s character. Couldn’t understand her way of thinking and why, for the love of god, she did the things she did.

Nonetheless the ending was so interesting because one big secret was revealed and of course it had to end in a *cough* cliffhanger *cough* (which I personally LOVE😫). I love it so much when the book leaves me confused and wanting more. It’s safe to say I’m so excited for the sequel because I heard that there’s redemption coming for Gigi 👀

❥ Forced Proximity

An amazing debut from Sophie Grace. Secrets is well written and full of action, lust, love and plot twists. There really isn’t a dull moment during this book, and the ending had me gasping. I’m very excited to see what will happen in the next book.

Secrets is a dark romance, but I reckon it’s a good book for those who are looking to get started with dark romance, without getting too overwhelmed by a shopping list of triggers in the beginning. We have Harry and Gigi, who dislike each other from the get-go, but Gigi is insanely attracted to him, which she shouldn’t be because Harry is her ex boyfriend’s brother, and he screams trouble.

But trouble is what Gigi is looking for, and once she finds out what Harry is involved with, she’s eager to be included as well. All the while, they’re back and forth on the lust they’re feeling for each other. Gigi finds her way into the crime world of London, a secret society, and fraternizing within the circle will be punished. Harry and Gigi are having a hard time staying away from each other, but secrets keep tearing them apart.

Like mentioned before, this book is full of action, and it was maybe a little too much for my taste. I felt like I didn’t have time to wrap my head around what was going on before something new popped up. Also, Gigi.. not my favorite FMC. There’s a fine line between stubbornness and stupidity. But Harry St. James… he says all the right things.

“I don’t fucking share. Why haven’t you wrapped your pretty little head around that simple concept yet?”

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Wow I wasn’t expecting the end of the book to rip my heart open, give me a sliver of hope, put me on an emotional rollercoaster, and then end like that!! This book was worth all those emotions though! I don’t even know how to process the end of this book….like I need book 2 ASAP Sophie! There were so many plot twists and I absolutely loved them!

HOLY HELL HARRY ST JAMES IS MY NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND! I loved his mysterious broody vibe right from the start and I only grew to love him more as the book went on! It broke my heart when Gigi wouldn’t stop trying to join, but damn the forbidden aspect made those spicy scenes HOT AF. His filthy mouth is to die for!

🖤Touch her and die
🖤Enemies to lovers

Thank you so much to Sophie Grace for the ARC of this book! It is set to release on July 25th and is perfect for dark romance lovers!

Doing ANOTHER reread because the audio dropped yesterday and OH. MY. GOD. I am having the best time 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

I cannot tell you how much I absolutely devoured this book! Like it’s not even funny, this book is everything! It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while, a standout favourite. A infinite star read…

There’s not been many times where I’ve immediately wanted to reread a book, straight after finishing, but this?! THIS MASTERPIECE… it has GRIPPED me. I need the next book like yesterday.

It’s gritty, and tense, sexy & addictive. From the first sentence it had me… I just knew, from those first few words that this was going to consume me. And boy, it did. The spice was chefs kiss.

I’m obsessed with the characters, the story, the plot, the twists….. the plot twist at the end too?! Didn’t see that coming! The story wasn’t predictable… and I don’t know how it would all play out, but it was a hell of a ride.
This book has me crying so hard.. heartbroken… distraught.. I was a mess. But were the tears & heartbreak worth it? Absolutely..

Update: I couldn’t stop thinking about the book, to the point I just couldn’t even think about starting another. So i picked it back up, for a reread. It was even better the 2nd time round. I have never, in all my years of reading, ever read a book twice back to back. This book is special, and one of my firm favourites of the year, maybe even of all time. I feel so honoured to of been able to Arc read this for Sophie.. thank you so much! 🫶

Get this on your TBR.

First off I just wanna start by saying that just because I didn’t absolutely love this book doesn’t mean that you won’t! I’m a very true mood reader, and it very well could have been my mood.

Things I liked about this book - the secret Society and the bones of the story. I freaking loved Harry St. James!! The spice was really good & the plot was interesting and entertaining. And for a moment there it was giving a Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibe!! ( loved the training scenes😮‍💨) I loved the moments of tension we got.

I think what I had that hardest time with is that I was getting really confused, the time jumps were throwing me off & sometimes things seemed a little choppy and I found myself having to reread things because I felt like I wasn’t understanding. I’m huge vibes girly so if I’m vibing with a book and things are flowing I’m here for it, but unfortunately, I just found myself really lost a lot of the time(& again maybe that’s just me) I also didn’t understand why these two disliked each other, especially towards the beginning of the book. I also was expecting Gigi to redeem herself because she was treating Harry so shitty but that never came and I really wanted to like her( I love badass women)but I just didn’t.

For a debut novel, the story has so much potential &
a lot of good tropes. I think it’s worth checking out!

Also the book itself is stunning 💗

DNF at 35% for now. I did try to get back to the book but the flow of the story just didn’t flow well. This could have used another round of editing or more beta reading.

I’m really Struggling to like the FMC she’s very entitled. A lot of the story has weird progression and jumps between scenes suddenly. There isn’t much of a story atm just characters being into one another. A lot of problems seem to all be miscommunication as the mmc is keeping so many secrets. And they suddenly just starts getting together after a time skip? I don’t know. Just didn’t flow well for me as a story.

But good first attempt at a book! It’s hard getting yourself out there and writing a story.

DNF at 55%. I thought this would be better than it was. The premise was solid but sadly the execution wasn’t. I tried so hard to keep going (almost DNF’d at 30%) but couldn’t force myself anymore. The flow was off, the time jumps were annoying and everything just seemed over dramatic. I didn’t feel the connection between Harry and Gigi at all. She gave me horrible second hand embarrassment. Some of the plot lines irritated me and I think most of this book should have been cut. Most of the beginning was unnecessary and just made me lose interest.

Again, I think the storyline had great potential, it’s just a shame it was a bit waffly and the writing style didn’t capture my attention.

It's time for a long ass rant review. Grab your snacks everyone!

This book was soo bad, it made my soul cry. I feel like i was being tortured for reading it, so i had to stop.
Let's start with the things i disliked about the book-

1. First off I couldn't understand the dynamics b/w the MCs like they met something something happened they hooked up and then she's mad at him for hiding something as if they've known each other for ages. And it's not even that the less time since they met, no moments between them happened suggesting the bond. It was messy.

2. Secondly, there's not much written about harry's world or what he does. It would have been nice if there was. I was around 200 pages into the book and there was barely anything!

3. The fmc Gigi was infuriating. I did like her in the beginning of the book but then she started doing things that pissed me off bad. She was an entitled brat who didn't care about anyone but herself.

4. The FMC was hell bent on becoming a part of the secret society which would've been fine if there was a motive or any explanation to it but the only reason is the supposed "darkness" in her. I thought her reason was her brother's death and all but no, it was the "darkness in her" and bcoz she was intrigued with everything.
Did i mention that I've come to hate the word 'intrigue'. It was repeated in the book so many times by the fmc that it started pissing me off.

5. The author tried really hard to make the fmc appear dark and stuff, she did succeed in the beginning but not so much later on in the book, it was rather funny coz the Fmc action and thought don't align.

6. Ohhh and did i tell you there was cheating too. Not between the MCs. The fmc cheated on her bf with the Mmc because they met after 10 months or something.
And when the fmc went to break up with her bf this happened-
“We haven’t had sex. The only few times we’ve ever done anything you’ve moaned another guy’s name.” (this is the bf's pov)
i got a huge turn off and my liking for the fmc went down some more.

7. The plot was not plot-ing at all. I want something to continue reading the book. They were no answers. There came a point when i started to feel the beginning of the plot but nooooo it vanished into thin air and let me tell you the plot was pretty much fmc wanting to know everything about her brother's death that was made to look like an accident. The fmc forgot all about her brother's death as soon as she found a way to become a part of the society, so yeah the plot was forgotten and not just that the MCs started acting as if they were long lost lovers. Their chemistry was dull and boring.

This book was so messily written. There was so much happening in the book but nothing at the same time and the MCs weren't helping too. They acted like they were teenagers rather than grown up adults.

I tried to continue with the book but i just couldn't.

Skimmed after 371 page (68%) mark.

I love dark romance, but the execution of this one did not work for me so eventually I gave up and skimmed the rest to get to the end hoping that the reveals/cliffhanger would make it worth it. It wasn't.

This book was very long and yet it felt like barely anything occurred. Multiple time jumps were included, which just made it feel even more chaotic and didn't seem to have much of a purpose. It felt like lazy writing, but then again I fear how long it would have been without them. With it divided into three parts, maybe splitting it into multiple books and reworking it a little bit would have helped.

The FMC, Gigi, came off as incredibly immature and entitled. I hope for the sake of those moving on to the next book when it is released that her character is redeemed in some way because as she is written in this book I could not root for her. Given this was written in a dual POV format with more emphasis on her POV, for more than half of my reading experience I was annoyed. I can understand that the author probably intended for her to be unlikeable to a certain extent, and but she was insufferable and therefore I have no investment in their relationship.

While I did like Harry (the MMC), given the points above I was having trouble understanding what he loved about Gigi given there was nothing of substance in their relationship. There was so much back and forth about how they just NEED to be together, but oh no they can't! It was repetitive and didn't work for me at all. I also found it inconsistent that Harry is so terrified of his boss who was the reason for a lot of the "relationship" drama, yet was constantly doing things that would draw his ire. I also found it annoying that they kept saying they would stop lying to each other, yet continued to do so.

Overall the ride was not worth it for me and I was left disappointed and not intrigued enough or hopeful enough to pick up the second book to see whether my grievances are resolved.

OH. MY. GOD.

first of all, thank you so much sophie for giving me the opportunity to arc read your debut novel. you absolutely DELIVERED !! this has to be my new favorite read 🖤

if you’re a fan of dark romance, secret society, plot twists, possessive vibes, enemies to lovers, he falls first, SPICE … get this on your tbr PRONTO !! the writing in this alone had me hooked from the very beginning. the plot was gripping and intense. the spice was spicing 🥵 it’s a perfect mix of plot and spice and just everything you could ever want in a dark romance book. i cried, i giggled, i threw my kindle across the room.

you get a strong and confident FMC, gigi. she is hellbent on discovering what really happened to her brother. and during then found herself struggling and bouncing between living arrangements. we dive deeper into her family’s lifestyle where she feels sort of like the black sheep. until she meets harry, he brought out that darkness that was inside of gigi no matter how hard he tried to protect her from the ugly in the world. gigi was always meant to be a badass and everything fell into place when she learns more about the secrets 💪🏼
and oh my god harry 🧎🏻‍♀️ this man is possessive and obsessive. as he said “i’m f-cking obsessed. there’s a difference.” DONT MIND IF I DOOOOO !!! he only has a soft spot for gigi and gives everyone the hard exterior. the man that he is. and with that mouth on him … how could you not fall in love !?!

the ending took me OUT !!! i was staring at the wall for a good two hours trying to wrap my head around that. not only did i just love the main characters, but also the side characters as well. this was sexy and all around has me in the biggest chokehold. i’m so excited for what book two has in store !!

5⭐️ 3.5🌶️ ARC REVIEW:
This has to be one of my favourite reads up to date as wow. This was PHENOMENAL. I could not put this book down! It had everything a dark romance needed, a whole shopping list of trigger warnings, SPICE, tension, plot twists and so much more. We had plot twists and I mean a LOT which made me hooked all the way through. This book has left me speechless, I cried. And I don't cry easily with a book. But this book definitely got me!!!!

Gigi: The main FMC and let me tell you she is a badass and I do not blame her for wanting Harry as bitch I would too if I could. Gigi was struggling with her housing arrangements and her ex boyfriend... Greg ew. And she has been wanting to solve the case of her brothers death, which leads her to the sex god Harry.

Harry: The main MFC is all we basically want in a book boyfriend if I am being honest. Possessive, protective, and has a dirty mouth on this man. 😅 He's a mystery we all have to crack but I feel so much for this character and I adore him so fucking much and you will too.

I even loved little side characters of this book and I'm praying they get their own stories too as I love each and one of them so much. Mia had my heart from the start.

Overall this book is immaculate, it has everything you possibly want and crave in a dark romance and the men as well 🫣 THE ENDING THOUGH... Sophie I need book 2 now!!!! All I can say is read this book now!

“This man will be the death of me. He is torturous and damning. Yet ... perfectly imperfect. As if the realisation impales me straight in the chest, I don't want him to be the death of me. I want him to be the making of me.”

First of all, thank you Sophie for sending me this ARC to read. Congratulations on your debut novel 🥳

In Secrets, we follow Gigi and Harry. Gigi is struggling since her brother’s death, and one day she meets Harry, who is covered in blood and in her ex-boyfriend’s house. He’s full of secrets and she definitely wants to know more about him.
I loved the secret society world trope, it was definitely not how I expected it but I loved the world building and details.
I loved Sophie’s writing and how she described Gigi’s feelings in the book. She’s a complex character and what she goes though is not easy for her mental health, I really loved how I could feel her while reading. I also loved Harry, he’s kind of a villain but still the perfect book boyfriend who wants to protect Gigi and pretty much unalive everyone who looks at her the wrong way 🫠
I did not expected the twists and turns on the last part of the book! Now I really can’t wait for book #2 !!

Secrets will be out on July 25th. If you love enemies to lovers, secret society, touch her and d!e and lots of TWs, this one is definitely for you !!!

Book one. Read the trigger warnings ⚠️

I don’t know where to start with this one, it did draw me into the intrigue of the circle. There were some parts that didn’t make sense, the repetitiveness of our FMC or MMC saying ‘brother trained me/you’, but when anything happened she seemed like she gave in. That was until she decided her future was within the circle for money and power, thus a training regime was set. There were aspects of her initiation that I guess made her stronger but she still seemed to rely on the MMC, who she ‘hates’.

The story continues along a line of twists and turns, a love/hate relationship between the MCs. Throw in criminals, a bit of trafficking, betrayal, secrets, lies, kidnapping, auctions, this story has all that and more. There are sections for me that start but never show us a conclusion before jumping into the next chapter, it doesn’t detract from the overall story. It ends on a cliffhanger of sorts which leaves us with more questions than answers.

All in all, I feel I’ve read similar stories but this one has a few more twists, it definitely draws you into their world and you are left wanting the next book. 🔪🩸🖤⛓️

Consider me speechless.

This book YANKED me out of my reading slump. I absolutely loved Harry and his psychotic side (we listen we don’t judge). Harry and Gigi have a very toxic relationship, yet I can’t see them being with anyone else.
I also fell in love with Hudson’s character, as he was sweet and caring toward Gigi. He was always there for her when she needed him.
As for Gigi, I got to watch her grow from a weak, helpless girl to a badass criminal boss woman. There were times when she lost herself, and times I was disappointed in her. But regardless, she’s the strongest version of herself she can be. I have a love-hate relationship with her character to be honest.

Now what made this review hit 5 stars for me was the plot line and the plot twist. I was hooked the entire book. The story was there, and I always knew something was coming, but I NEVER could have guessed the ending. I gasped so loud and had to take a 5 min break to think about the twist I had just read.

There are a few typos and mistakes in editing but honestly the book was so good that I could look past it.

My point is, go read this book ASAP.

It was so different from what I expected tbh but it had literally everything. I loved it since the beginning and it was hard to put it down(when I did it was bcs I fell asleep while reading it lmao). I loved Gigi and Harry sm especially Harry and his way with words ahh🤭. Oh and the title of this book is really really fitting a lot of secrets and mystery👀, I loved it. Girly but the ending?? The beginning of the last chapter I was like oh thats cute🥹 and then in a matter of seconds like WHAT. THE. HELL. I need the second book now!!

Love. Hate. Secrets. Lies.
All she had to do was stay away... but now it's too late.

What an amazing debut novel from Sophie Grace. I loved her writing style.
Secrets is about a strong and feisty FMC Gigi, and a very morally grey MMC Harry, and when they come together, you get an incredible mix of banter, love, a secret society, spice and plot!

Tropes:
- Enemies to Lovers
- Touch her and d!e
- Secret Society
- Forced proximity
- Dual POV
