A Ship of Lies: A Lesbian Romance

Rate this book
She bought a ticket to freedom… but found herself captive to love instead.

As the powerhouse CEO of a health-tech company, Flor’s used to running numbers, not navigating feelings. Especially not after the implosion of her perfect-on-paper marriage. But a lesbian-only Mediterranean cruise seemed like the safest place to test the waters of her new identity. That is, until one spilled coffee, one too-pretty bartender, and one impulsive lie leave her in unfamiliar territory.

Scarlett O’Hara never meant to drag a stranger into her dating drama. But when her matchmaking best friend tries to pair her up with the wrong woman, Scarlett panics and blurts out a fake relationship that includes the ice queen she accidentally doused with an airport latte. She didn’t expect Flor to play along. And she definitely didn’t expect the woman to look at her like she was both a mistake and a revelation.

What begins as a flirty cover story quickly turns into something far more intimate. Between sunset strolls in Italy and stolen glances that turn to scorching touches, Scarlett and Flor are about to discover that sometimes the biggest risks come after the lie. When the truth finally surfaces, so does the one thing they never planned for… real, undeniable love.
If you like fake dating, ice queen, age-gap sapphic romance, you won't want to miss this steamy lesbian romance with a happily ever after!

Flor Dubois is a CEO, going on a cruise to get away from her life; from her recently divorced ex-husband and business partner Mark, and from her decision to come out as a lesbian after a decade of marriage to a man. Apart from a drunken college night that she can’t really remember, she has never been with a woman, and so her choice of a lesbian cruise is to get some experience in a safe place.
Scarlett O’Hara is bartender in The Tipsy Mermaid, one of the main bars aboard the cruise liner. She is an aspiring illustrator, having got her creative side from both her parents. Scarlett also seems to be very clumsy!
When Scarlett’s best friend aboard the liner, Minna, tries to set Scarlett up with her cousin Jessie, Scarlett will go to any lengths to avoid this. But Minna is so overwhelming that eventually Scarlett lies that she has met someone. That someone is Flor, and so we get a fake girlfriend story. But this is written in such a way that we can feel the women slowly falling for one another.
The first few books in this series (including the introductory free novella) were linked in some way; the founder, friends, or the working staff. But this and the previous book are very much standalone stories. The only linking characteristics are the fact they are lesbian cruises set on ships sailing in The Amoré line.
This, in my opinion, is the best book in the whole series. It is so well written, with some really sweet and also fun moments.

And that’s Amore! “A Ship of Lies” is the final tale in Lauren Hart’s Amore series. The book is a sweet and fitting finale to a wonderful series - filled with humor, self-discovery, and a fib that turns into forever for Flor and Scarlett. Flor, newly entering life as a lesbian, unwittingly becomes a party to Scarlett’s deceitful escape from her best friend’s matchmaking plan. Flor only booked the all women cruise to explore possibilities in an environment filled with lesbians - but how can she meet women when Scarlett has embroiled her in this fake relationship? As leading characters, Flor and Scarlett are likable and sympathetic. Supporting characters Minna (the matchmaking best friend), and her cousin, flannel wearing fisherwoman Jessie, introduce the conflict and the humor. Minna wants to match Jessie with Scarlett, who then concocts a fake relationship with Flor, a complete stranger. Forced to spend her ten day cruise with fake girlfriend Scarlett, Flor doesn’t meet lots of women, but still manages to explore her lesbian persona. Lauren Hart specializes in HEAs, and “A Ship of Lies” certainly has that - but getting to the happily ever after? Well, you’ll just have to enjoy this book for yourself to find out how. I received an ARC of “A Ship of Lies” and this is my honest review.

This is the final book in The Amore series and it does not disappoint. I've really enjoyed each book in this series, but this is my favorite of them all. The initial introductions of Flor and Scarlett perfectly setup the reactions of each upon their accidental meeting. Flor is an ice queen looking to embrace her new found sexuality and Scarlett is a bartender/artist who sweeps her up in a fake dating scheme to avoid being setup by her matchmaking friend. As Flor becomes who she's meant to be, there's plenty of humor, much provided by Minna and her cousin Jessie. If you like well written, fake dating, opposites attract, age gap stories, you won't go wrong with this one. The humor, self discovery, and happily ever after make this an all around good read to me.

I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another triumph of love from a cruise vacation.

Lauren Hart has just proven how talented a writer she is by presenting yet another well written, smart, full of fun tale of love. This one’s ice queen, Flor collides with Scarlet in the airport in New York leaving Flor drenched in coffee. The next meeting is almost as much fun for the pair as Flor sees Scarlet across a bar on the ship. Scarlet is behind the bar when Flor steps back to make an escape and slams into another patron causing her to fall rather ungracefully and knocking over a brass table with bar menus making a great scene! More laughs occur with Scarlet coming to Flor’s rescue and the story grows. I don’t want to give it away, let’s just say it is a fun read. Honestly I read this as an ARC read and truly enjoyed every minute.

The fifth and final voyage on the Amore is my personal favourite. Scarlett and Flor were great characters with lots of personality, humour and a little snark added to the mix. Age gap and fake dating combined to bring the Amore series to a conclusion. I’ve really enjoyed this series and wish I could afford to go on all the cruises covered. The imagery and details of all the ports stops has left me with a longing to experience them for myself. Jessie was a brilliant side character that grew on me as the book went on. Loved the epilogue

The perfect ending

This romantic farce was the perfect ending to the cruise series. From the very beginning, the book is surprising, funny, hot and sweet. Just like indeed the whole series. The completely opposite characters are hilarious as they reluctantly start falling for each other, and for me, towards the end, it got complicated. I knew this was the end of one of my favorite series, so I had to slow down when at the same time, I just had to see how the story unfolds.

I enjoyed this final book in the series. As Flor sets out to relax and fully embrace herself, Scarlett is just trying to make money while she decides what she really wants to do with her life. With their random meeting and entertaining continuation of them being together on and off the ship they start to discover what they want and help each other along the way. Great beach read with some spice to mix it up.

Stop hiding

The always in control Flor is newly out of the closet and is looking to embrace her new life. She manage to get caught up in a whirlwind named Scarlett and her web of lies. It make look fake, but feelings are hard to hold back and these two heat up the sheets quite well together. Flor is finally opening up and showing Scarlett her vulnerable side. It's fun and sexy and everything a cruise should be. I adored the entire series and will travel with them again I'm sure.

I really enjoyed this series, it strongly reminds me of the TV show Love Boat with a lesbian love twist. This book is light hearted, fun to read and full of drama, it has fake dating, age gap and ice queen all neatly packed into an unforgettable romance. I like the witty banter, the steamy hot sex and the sweet happy ending.

Good ending

Great ending to a great series. One of those where you don't want it to end but do happy with the ending.
