From Ally to All-In: The Five Stages of Moving Beyond Privilege and Becoming a More Inclusive Leader

Rate this book
The business world is often depicted as a zero-sum game, a hopelessly divided space where results and performance benchmarks are one goal, while a commitment to inclusion and a positive culture for all team members is another—and rarely can the two be achieved together.

This is simply not true, as Mike Lynch, creator of the Ally to All-In Framework, presents this call to action for leaders, especially white men, who are ready to take an honest look at their role in creating truly inclusive environments. From Ally to All-In doesn’t shame or blame or impose ideology—it explores what it means to do more than just pay lip service to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and instead engage in a way that’s authentic, responsible, and deeply engaged.

Lynch shares personal stories of struggle and growth, as well as those of clients he has coached and mentored. These enriching experiences are anchored by the five building blocks of the ally to all-in journey—Awareness, Acknowledgment, Atonement, Accountability, and Amplification.

This is your guide to move beyond allyship toward a more active, wholehearted commitment to inclusion. Leaders who do the committed inner work required to show up meaningfully in these conversations will feel empowered, not overwhelmed.

Become energized as you use your privilege and influence to elevate others while also improving business results—one conversation and one action at a time.

I would like to begin by saying that I am not intentionally trying to be rude. This book shows a lot of promise. It is very informative and shows amazing knowledge of the topic as well as display of strategies on how to make workplaces more inclusive for everyone. This was a great brochure, but a terrible book. I found myself bored all the time by the writing. I care about the topic and I felt like some of the ideas presented were great, but I just kept wishing that everything was structured differently (the book basically consists of the introduction, introduction of the model, detailed look at each of the steps and the conclusion, which sounds great, until you understand that we could have been discovering the model throughout the book) in order for the book to actually be interesting.
What I am trying to say is that having a lot of knowledge doesn't mean that you will be able to write a good book, you also have to know how to write a good book and this author didn't know how to.
