About the author

Stuart Barker was born in Galloway, Scotland and graduated from Strathclyde University in 1996. A lifelong motor racing fan, he worked at Motor Cycle News, first as a news reporter then as a feature writer and road tester. After four years, he became a freelance writer and has been published in many magazines including FHM, Superbike, Two Wheels Only and Biker. He has co-written books with Niall Mackenzie and Steve Hislop and wrote a bestselling biography of the late Barry Sheene.

Stuart Barker is incredibly knowledgeable about motorcycle racing and while there Is little in the way of Marquez’s private life, or the sort of emotional drama found in the IOM TT books, 'Joey Dunlop' and 'Ragged Edge' (both by the same author), the blow-by-blow account of Marquez’s racing career should be enough to excite any MotoGP fan. I was also fascinated by the decline of the Japanese factories in MotoGP. It seems unthinkable that the likes of Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki could get it so wrong after decades of domination.

And now the stuff I didn't like…There are times when 'Marc Marquex: Everything or Nothing' reads like a companion volume to Stuart Barker’s 'Valentino Rossi'. There is a lot of overlap between the riders’ career, so if you have read the Rossi book, you will get a sense of déjà vu when reading this bio of his nemesis Marquez. The other criticism I have is that, at the time of writing, Marc’s career is resurgent. He is currently at the top of the MotoGP standings with his brother Alex in second place. Rading a biography that ends just as the 2025 season is about to start is kind of dissatisfying if inevitable.

Nitpicks asides, 'Marc Marquez: Everything or Nothing' is a pretty solid sporting biography.

A by-the-numbers, almost 'extended' Wikipedia view at Marc Marquez's career, but nevertheless very interesting for me to read about many events that I saw first hand. The Rossi book was more intriguing for me, purely because I wasn't watching MotoGP in many of Rossi's years, so I was hearing these stories for the first time.

Speaking of Rossi, mind-boggling why Valentino keeps up his tirade against Marc all these years later.
