"This prayer companion isn't written by a woman who has it all together, prays pretty prayers, or is always comfortable praying aloud. It is, however, written by someone who, like you, longs for the power of God to reside in my heart, the hearts of those I love, and my home." —Cathy Baker

Absolutely loved this book!! Such a great tool and reminder that we can invite God in and praise God in every task and part of our day! As a stay at home mom my number one goal is to teach my children about the Lord and this book serves as a great tool to help pray for each room of your home, the activities you do there, and the people you invite into that space! How beautiful to praise God and romanticize even the little moments of your day! I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, but I found it to be very easy to read especially if someone was newer in their faith as well!
This amazing book will show you so many creative ways to not only pray for each space in your home but for your family & all who enter in. It has places to personalize this to you & your home!
Just this week, I was telling my spiritual director how much I long for more books with practical prayers—prayers about everyday life. Not just theological reflections on prayer, and not just beautiful words for special occasions, but prayers for ordinary things. I pray for my neighbours to enjoy the flowers I plant in the front garden. I thank the Lord for the fluttering robin in my backyard that brightens my day. My prayers are woven into daily, simple moments, and I often feel alone in that.
The very next day, I saw that NetGalley had Making Room for God. It truly felt like a God-send.
The book begins with a blessing, which immediately made me feel at home. I grew up with blessings spoken over both little and big things, and that gentle opening set the tone for the whole book. Cathy Baker doesn’t preach at you—she comes alongside you.
I found myself relating to her in many ways. I’ve never thought of myself as particularly creative, yet she expands the understanding of creativity so beautifully. She names so many forms of creativity—quiet, hidden, everyday expressions—that I began to see my own life differently. One of the most helpful tools for me was the “feelings list” exercise: writing what I feel in one column and then writing what God says—His truth—in another. That practice alone was invaluable.
The book offers many creative and practical ways to pray—approaches I had never considered. I’ve known Celtic prayers to be earthy and practical, but I don’t always find them consistently biblical. What makes Making Room for God such a gift is that it is both practical and deeply rooted in Scripture. I didn’t feel the need to stay guarded, as I sometimes do with devotional books that stretch or loosely interpret Scripture. Cathy handles God’s Word thoughtfully and faithfully, which built trust.
She is also refreshingly honest about both her gifts and her struggles. The tone is gentle yet truthful—love and truth walking hand in hand. She invites herself into your space rather than speaking down to you, and that posture makes all the difference.
This is such a practical book, and it intentionally leaves room for you—to reflect, to write, to grow. It doesn’t rush you. It truly makes room for God in the midst of daily life.
I genuinely wish there were more books on prayer like this one—books that help us pray through ordinary days with biblical depth and creative freedom. I only wish I could afford to buy my own copy. It is absolutely worth it.
I’m so grateful to NetGalley for introducing me to Cathy Baker and Making Room for God. This book truly felt like a gift from God, and I’m thankful for the chance to experience it and reflect on its practical, Scripture-rich prayers.

Pause to invite God's blessings on those who live, laugh, and lament within your walls. As you develop a rhythm of unceasing prayer for family relationships and beyond, you'll have a front- row seat to watch God at work in the lives of those you love. A good book. The book is easy to read and understand. I recommend this book. Making Room for God by Cathy Baker is a 5-star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Cathy Baker. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
This book is a gentle, thoughtful invitation to experience prayer in a fresh and deeply personal way. Cathy Baker beautifully connects everyday spaces with spiritual reflection, showing how our homes can become places of intentional prayer, awareness, and connection with God. What I appreciated most is how accessible and creative the approach feels. Each room becomes an opportunity to pause, reflect, and invite God into ordinary moments that are often overlooked. The prompts are simple but meaningful, encouraging mindfulness without feeling overwhelming or overly structured. It’s a wonderful reminder that prayer does not have to be confined to a specific time or place.
The writing is warm, encouraging, and practical, making this guide easy to return to again and again. Whether you are new to prayer or looking to deepen an existing practice, this book offers inspiration, flexibility, and a sense of calm. It would also work beautifully for small groups or personal devotional time.
Making Room for God is a thoughtful resource that helps transform daily routines into sacred moments, reminding readers that God is present in every corner of our lives.
As I read Making Room for God: A Creative Guide for Praying Through Your Home, my eyes were opened to a multitude of prayer opportunities that present themselves throughout the day—many most of us miss. Prayer doesn’t have to be formal or complicated. When we learn to see our homes with the eyes of our hearts, prayer prompts appear everywhere.
The author’s approach to praying throughout our homes reminds me of Brother Lawrence, the 16th century monk, who wrote Practicing the Presence of God. Cathy suggests ways to make daily monotonous chores—washing pots and pans, dusting, sweeping floors, and folding laundry— into sacred moments of intimate communion with God.
Making Room for God invites us to prepare not only our living spaces but also our minds and hearts for opening our homes.
“Biblical hospitality puts to rest the need for perfection, an ideal home environment, or any desire to be someone other than who we are because it’s not so much about us, but about how God wants to love others through us,” (p. 27).
Kudos to the author for this simple yet profound approach to communing with God and extending his love to others. This book would make a perfect housewarming gift.
Making Room for God - A Creative Guide for Praying Through Your Home, opened my eyes to see my home in ways I’d not considered. It reminded me in the humblest of ways that my home is a gift from God - a place where all who enter and exit can know the warmth of His love and joy. Cathy helped me see beyond the structural aspects into the people and activities that home spaces embrace.
Everyday tasks are investments in advancing God’s kingdom and springboards for prayer! Fine China and paper plates are welcome. :) Talk about freedom! This book drew my focus toward the people who will use those plates, and that is the perspective shift I needed.
With features such as Prayer Opportunities, Creative Pauses, and Gospel Nudges, this book kept my thoughts God-centered, servant-minded, and wrapped in prayer.
This statement set the tone for every chapter: “On this day, I paused to pray for help in releasing the need for perfection in order to serve the Lord freely.”
Making Room for God is one of God’s good gifts - a gift that gives its reader opportunities to draw near to God and create spaces where others can know Him, too.

Cathy Baker presents a gentle, practical approach that transforms ordinary spaces into meaningful environments for reflection and connection with God.
What makes this book particularly impactful is its interactive and personal nature. By encouraging readers to engage with their physical surroundings through reflection, writing, and intentional prayer, it creates a tangible way to deepen spiritual practice. The concept of “praying through your home” adds a unique and accessible dimension to faith based living.
At its core, Making Room for God is about intentionality, presence, and cultivating a deeper spiritual atmosphere within daily life. It encourages readers to slow down, reflect, and invite faith into even the smallest moments. Uplifting, practical, and purpose-driven, this guide resonates with individuals seeking a more personal and consistent prayer life.
What a helpful and insightful personal prayer resource from author Cathy Baker—and it is so unique! This will make such a great gift. So many cool features in this book, but I’ll mention just a few. The prayers the author includes are so honest and can truly help us express our own needs, requests, and feelings to the Lord. I love how the prayers are steeped in the truths of scripture. In fact, a scripture follows each prayer. As I read, this book acted as a springboard as I made the prayers unique to my situation and life.
The author also includes references throughout for free online resources and printables found on her website. She’s even added special sections at the back of the book for holidays and for those building new homes. This is a gem of a prayer resource and a gem of a gift for others. Thank you, Cathy Baker!
I really love the prayer opportunities listed for each area of one's home in Cathy Baker's book, Making Room for God (2026, Our Daily Bread Publishing). Of the five main areas of the home (and additional spaces), my favorite so far is the gathering space especially with the Gentle Gospel Nudges at the end of that chapter. There's even a place in the book to sketch your room and write down your own prayers. I put this book on my reread list so I can add to it every few months!
Cathy Baker did a remarkable job in this amazing book. It has opened my eyes to see things more clearly in my home on how to pray and study over each room in my home. Cathy had touched my heart in many ways through each page the stories scriptures to the prayers . After each chapter shes leaves room for you to jot down maybe your thoughts and prayers . If you need a book that will touch you this is the one . Thank you Cathy Baker .
Described as “A Creative Guide for Praying through Your Home,” Making Room for God is different from the typical prayer book. Cathy Baker gathers wisdom from past experience, inspiring scripture, and innovative activities to create an action based book for young families in their new homes, long-term homeowners, and all those in-between. I’ve purchased copies of this faith-filled book for my children—both recently relocating into new residences.
What a cool book to remind us of ways to add God into our home and reminders of how to pray more, embrace Biblical truths, and refocus our attention. Organized by rooms of our home and Biblical verses to support us, it also has a section to refocus our attention on God for holidays and verses to use in so many situations. I loved it!
Homeowners have repairs. I like how the author included specific aspects of a home, such as the “Foundation” along with related scripture (Luke 6:47-49) and an example of prayer pertaining to it. As I address issues caused by a big rain and failed sump pump, this book reminds me that every occasion is an invitation for God to work in and through me where I call home.
