Ryan Lokkesmoe (pronounced lox-moe) is the senior pastor of Community Church at Lake Wylie, a congregation in the Charlotte area. Prior to that, he served as the lead pastor of a church he planted and as a small groups pastor at a large multisite church.

Whatever the subject matter, Ryan's main goal is to help people grow in their knowledge of and relationship with Jesus.

Ryan grew up in Texas. He and his wife Ashley met as high schoolers in their church youth group and have been married since 2006. Ryan is a musician and loves to read, especially history, theology, and classic literature. More than anything, he enjoys spending time with Ashley and their two children.

Ryan Lokkesmoe brings us a great reminder in Jesus Was Human Too, by doing just that, showing us Jesus's humanity throughout scripture in different seasons and examples. Jesus as a twelve year old was just as human as any twelve year old, even if he was God in the flesh. Ryan brings us through different examples like his mixed up home life, his work life, his public life and his private life. Even to his family that goes past just his brother James and his mother Mary, but even to Joseph as well as other siblings that aren't mentioned. Very down to earth book, easy to read and comprehend, and yet still deep enough to make you think. I like the addition of discussion questions at the end of every chapter as well as a prayer to meditate on. Thank you, and I highly recommend this to others.

Ryan Lokkesmo’s Jesus Was Human Too is a quick, accessible read that doesn’t try to reinvent theology so much as refocus your attention on a central truth we often glide past: Messiah fully entered human life, with all its strain and vulnerability. There may be nothing radically “new under the sun” here for seasoned readers, but that’s not really the point—the value is in reflection, and the book works well as a simple, steady companion for personal devotion, journaling, or small-group conversation.

I love it when a book can so change my perspective. We often gloss over Jesus's life without really understanding the complexities of living the life as a human. As Hebrews said, he was tested in every way that we are and yet did not sin. I'm am thankful that we have a High Priest that has lived our experience.
