Tristan and Caleb's journey south is marked by ambush, starvation, and collapse, until an unexpected rescue gives them one last shot at reaching home. Hannah and Elias face violent fallout from a tense standoff with local survivors, even as mist damage pushes their homestead to the brink of ruin. Now operating alone, Evelyn offers lifelines over the radio—but when danger arrives at her doorstep, she realizes not all rescues are meant to be remote in Book 3 of Twilight’s Ruin.
From 4-million-copy bestselling author Mike Kraus and Stephanie Mylchreest comes a new thrilling tale of survival.
When the first eruption blankets New Mexico in a deathly sulfuric mist, no one believes it can reach them. But as the unstoppable, acidic and unpredictable haze spreads, the world descends into chaos. Hannah Holloway, a sustainability influencer turned survivalist, finds herself racing home with her two children as the mist closes in on Albuquerque. Her sealed homestead may offer temporary refuge, but with survivors around that may not be all they appear and a husband who may never make it back, nothing is ever certain.
Tristan Holloway, miles away on a hiking trip, watches helplessly as the mist consumes valleys and people alike, including killing one of his best friends right before his very eyes. With only a backpack and a promise to get home, he navigates the brutal new landscape where the wrong breath can be your last and kindness is a risk.
Meanwhile, in a government facility buried deep underground, volcanologist Dr. Evelyn Kim discovers evidence that could save lives. But her orders are stay silent and protect the data. Breaking free might cost her everything but staying might cost the world even more.
Passionate about reading and writing for as long as she can remember, Stephanie was inspired to create her own literary worlds by the books she has lost herself in over the years (some of her favorites include: the Harry Potter series, The Road, 1984, Wool and Station Eleven).
Stephanie writes speculative fiction in the wee hours of the night after her children have gone to sleep. She particularly loves writing stories about characters who find themselves in unusual or challenging situations, and exploring how they deal with the fallout.
Having lived on several different continents over the last ten years, Stephanie is also an avid traveler. She married her British husband in Las Vegas with Elvis as celebrant, which was just as fun as you would imagine.
Relentlessly bleak! Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2025 Twilight's Ruin: Book 3 continues the story of the Holloway family facing the wrath of the acidic air which blankets the majority of the world, killing the majority of people and animals while simultaneously eating away at any material exposed to the air. Tristan and Caleb find that the world gets more dangerous with each passing day as the few survivors become more desperate and unpredictable, while Hannah, Elias, Ethan and Lila struggle to keep the homestead in one peace as the house is breaking down one bit at a time. Evelyn continues her solo effort to help others, but is not going unnoticed. The writing is excellent and clear, with particularly haunting descriptions of the world, now covered in bodies breaking down and structures failing more and more as time passes. The characters are well constructed and well rounded, the dialogue is very tense, fitting for the magnitude of the challenges that the survivors are facing. This is the best book in the series so far, which is no small statement given the outstanding quality of the series so far. 5/5 stars, highly recommended for any fans of apocalyptic and disaster survival thrillers!
Twilight's Ruin Book 3 - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
Survivors of the recurring deadly sulphur haze, Caleb and Tristan are still fighting to hold onto their dwindling supplies and return to their families. Scientist Evelyn has become the so-called 'mapmaker' in her solitary bunker, dispensing lifesaving advise to others. on a satellite radio. And back at their rapidly failing home, three generations of Tristan's family are doing all they can to hold on until he returns...but will he make it?
Twilight's Ruin Book 3 will grip you firmly by the imagination throughout and keep you on the edge of your seat, as you join vicariously in the struggle for life against previously unimaginable odds.
I decided to set aside my skepticism that there is science to explain the unabated haze and did enjoy this book more than the first two. I will admit that the tension of dealing with a recurring and deadly phenomenon where ordinary shelter is not sufficient does make for good reading. I’ve come to appreciate Evelyn even more and applaud how much her help has meant to the people she has touched. A good dog like Bluey is always a plus. Hannah and crew on the farm and Tristan/Caleb on the move are also compelling and I look forward to the next book.
Book 3 of Twilights Ruin continues to be a great story that has held my interest from one chapter to the next. The struggles and dangers for Tristan and Caleb and Hannah and her family at home had me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. A well written story, great characters and plenty of exciting moments.
Stephanie continues to weave thrills, suspense and dramatic moments throughout each group’s storylines as everything continues to worsen around them. This is another truly well written series entry, as Stephanie’s wonderful style brings the reader into the story. This is a series not to be missed, I can easily recommend this series and all of Stephanie’s works.
This was another really good part to this post apocalyptic series! I always enjoy this writers work & this was not a disappointment! Good continuation of the plot, stress & tension through out the adventure! A really good read!
A world you could imagine has many similarites and the hop skip and jump for us to get there.
I was captured by the protagonists and the settings they had to work with an intriguing situation its driving me to distraction trusted hasn't made. It home to his family yet
Once again the survivors try to find a place to live and stay safe. Full of action, suspense and danger. These two authors are absolutely amazing and I can’t wait for the next book.
