The saga continues...

After the birth of their first child, life between Jack and Kate McBride couldn’t be more perfect. That is until Kate’s mother appears and threatens to tear their world apart.

Jack has met his match in Marnie St. Clair, the scheming and all controlling mother in-law who is determined to pull her daughter away from the crude and overbearing cowboy and re-unite her with her sophisticated ex-husband.

It could cost Jack more than his sanity as deception yields a deadly hand, not only threatening his relationship with Kate but also threatening her life.

This is a heartwarming tale about love, sacrifice, and the price of a man’s soul who will do anything to save the woman he loves.

Did Not Read -

I purchased The Taming and The Price in my early reading days. Now, I’m trying to clear out my Unread Kindle books and I thought I could use some Cowboy lovin'... Book #1's Alpha-Hole Cowboy was just too awful, and didn't work out for me.

I’ve learned a lot since these two purchases. Like, the word Saga really means LONG DRAWN OUT DRAMA…

I’m putting these two books away until there’s a time in my life when I’m TOO happy and want to take myself into the Melodrama Soap Opera Genre an Emotional State of Depression.

I’ve tried to be vague enough to avoid spoiling the story in my review.

I am giving this book 4 stars because it took my emotions on a ride that I was not entirely happy with. It’s not the greatest book ever written and it’s not ever going to be one I re-read (often, if at all) but after the masses of crap I’ve been reading lately, it’s a stand out.

Let me state upfront that I do at times judge books by their cover. When I saw the cute pair of kid-size boots on this cover, I was sold. Mind you, if I had seen the ironed crease in the man’s jeans I might have thought twice before one-clicking. I’ve never understood why people iron jeans. Anyway, back on track…

I knew nothing about this author until this and the first book in this trilogy (The Taming) was mentioned in a Goodreads group. I decided to read Book 1 first and I enjoyed it. Yes, Jack, our hero, was the definition of an overbearing arse but that was a large part of the entertainment.

So, about that emotional rollercoaster…

- I was angry. Kate’s Mother is likely the most manipulative woman I have ever read about. What this woman did to Jack and Kate is horrible. Just horrible. At times I did not want to continue because I didn’t want to read more about her heinous activities. This woman is unhinged!

- I cried. Yes, reading about Kate’s journey brought me to tears. I hate reading about things like this and the utter uselessness people feel when they aren’t in a position to make things better. You see a very different Jack than the one in The Taming.

- I was disbelieving. There is a strong element of spirituality in the latter part of this book. I am a pragmatic soul so I was blasé about this. It did what it needed to move the story along but to me, it’s just fantasy. I was cried out by this time so had no energy to scoff or roll my eyes.

- I was frustrated. The first half of this book irritated me. It felt like I was reading a repeat of The Taming. Kate was being a whiny cow, constantly bickering with Jack about how he can’t force her to do things. Truthfully, she was weak - courtesy of her Mother’s manipulations – and did some very stupid things. It was a very close thing to me putting the book down and moving onto another because of what felt like repetition from The Taming.

A bonus with this book was a sneak peek at the final book. Thankfully, the story moves forward 20 years and hopefully Kate and Jack will have mellowed somewhat so we can avoid any TSTL moments.

Cary West you HAVE ME.
This Second book is just something else, I don't recall ever reading such a precious thing
and to say that i like jack is understatement, i love him, I really enjoyed the fact that he was
always there no matter what, in poorer sickness you name the situation and he was there.
By the end of the book, there was a moment that i didn't think that I would be able to stop crying and finish the book.

Cary West gave us new prospective, faith, believing against science, showing us that there are colors between black and white.

5 undeniable stars.

While I loved Kate and Jack, I should have stopped after the first book. For me, this story is just done.

The Price.

This book was a lot better. The story was a better story. Sex is not the entire book. I do' like sex, but I like the story too.
