Amanda feels someone watching her. Her husband, Michael, doesn't believe her. But then he's pretty busy .... with his girlfriend on the side.

Detective Adam Stanley shows up on her doorstep asking if she knows where her father is. She does ... he's in prison. Her father and his wife terribly abused not only his own children, but other children before Amanda testifies against them and sends them both behind bars. But Det. Stanley says her father was released weeks ago... and he's missing.

Now she is really scared .. he promised to take revenge when he got out. With 2 small children to look after, a cheating husband, and a diagnosis of Multiple Personality Disorder, she is scared that maybe she has done something she doesn't remember.

Her fear becomes overwhelming when her stepmother is found beaten to death. Now the cops are looking at her as a suspect. And the killing isn't over yet. All the victims have one thing in common --- Amanda. They were all involved in her abuse as a child.

Is she a victim .. or a killer?

Content Advisory: This book is intended for mature audiences and contains graphic and disturbing imagery.

This is a very well written psychological thriller not to be missed. The characters are credible. Amanda has tried so hard to learn to live with her past. Even she doesn't know if she is a killer. Did not like her husband at all. He was so blatant in his cheating and seemingly uncaring what his wife thought. He even told the police he though she could have killed someone. No love and support there. The suspense is palpable that begins with the very first page to the very end. The ending was explosive.

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

☆☆☆☆ 5 PERFECT Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Everything about this book was AWESOME! Miss Newbound, your writing doesn't leave anything out of the THRILLER spectrum.

 photo PicsArt_02-13-04.47.18_zpsjn4ki0il.jpg

Amanda has the seemingly perfect life and marriage. What people don't see is a past filled with childhood sexual abuse, a severe case a paranoia, and a loveless marriage with a cheating husband.

 photo PicsArt_02-13-04.56.16_zpsjgsddeqt.jpg

As Amanda doesn't think things can get worse, she is feeling even more paranoid, sensing someone is following her. Things out of the ordinary begin to happen that she can't explain.

Then one day she gets a visit from a detective.

 photo PicsArt_02-13-04.53.13_zpsdiv7m2xc.jpg

Meeting the detective sends shock waves through her entire body, something she hasn't felt in a long time. Those feelings are pushed aside when the detective informs Amanda her father has been released from prison. The man that sexual abused Amanda and her brother and led a pedophile sex ring.

Amanda ' s life is about to spiral into an abis of the past and present colliding. People's lives ending in gruesome ways. All clues leading back to Amanda.

This story is her fight to figure out what is real or a dream and how two men will fight to save her or ruin her.

Absolutely fabulous thriller!!! My review can NOT begin to describe all the twists and turns you will come face to face with!!!

Love you Miss Newbound!!!!!

Beyond Shadows is the first in the Adam Stanley series but he isn’t a central character in the story to start with – it’s all about Amanda Flynn, a woman who is going through a personal crisis after discovering her philandering husband in a bathroom with a curvy red-head and on top of that she find out that her convicted paedophile of a father has been released from prison 6 weeks previous and has gone missing. Enter Adam Stanley! As the story develops and there are more bodies dropping, Adam comes into his own and his and Amanda’s stories become more intertwined.

This book is very graphic, definitely not one for the faint-hearted! The deaths are gruesome and there is some rather explicit content at times. I did half expect some level of a shock factor after having read one of Netta’s other books “An Impossible Dilemma”, a stand-alone thriller that definitely makes you think! Beyond Shadows is another one that gives you food for thought; the murder of Amanda’s father, a paedophile who abuses his own children. Despite the horrific nature of his crimes, the guy has been murdered.

I was a bit confused by some of the language. The story is set in London but there are references to "daycare" and "homicide", both terms I associate with our friends in the States but given the author is based in New Zealand, it makes sense.

This is a brilliant story with plenty of intrigue and bodies for a crime thriller. I was kept guessing for sometime and there was plenty of shock revelations!

A big thank you to Netta Newbound for sending me a copy of Beyond Shadows. I’m looking forward to reading more investigations with Adam Stanley.

This is a sloppily-written, partly predictable run-of-the-mill thriller with some gore and some sex. It faithfully follows the rules of all lesser mysteries :

a) the leading lady is beautiful, willowy and vulnerable,

b) the detective is empathetic, athletically built and ruggedly masculine,

c) they are strongly attracted to each other,

d) the leading lady’s husband is a spineless creature, cheater and/or criminal ,

e) the baby boy is chubby, cheerful and adorable,

f) the young daughter is smart, beautiful and of course also adorable. She has a mass of tumbling (!) curls and loves the colour pink.

That is a recipe for boredom. Why can’t we ever have a slightly overweight heroine, maybe with thick glasses, an inspector with a paunch and a receding hairline, a likeable husband, a baby boy with sticky-out ears and maybe a squint, and a little girl with mousy hair and buck-teeth who loves lime-green ???

This was my first venture into reading one of Netta Newbound’s psychological thrillers and as the story gripped me from the opening pages, I’m sure I’ll be back for more. Beyond Shadows is concerned with Amanda Flynn, a woman going through a personal crisis after discovering her husband is having an affair with a voluptuous red-head and to her horror discovers that her convicted paedophile of a father has just been released from prison and subsequently gone missing.

Ms Newbound defines her characters pretty well, and her narrative contains many twists and turns which kept me engrossed. There are graphic scenes – beware those of a nervous disposition.
This is a story with enough intrigue to make it a good psychological crime thriller mystery.

Recommended. I’ll be back for more!

You know how if you are a frequent e-book shopper how you tend to browse for new books in your genre and read the top 5* review and then all the one stars?
Ok then maybe it is only me. I tend to steer away from books which sounds too gushing.
One or two sentence reviews leave me cold.
Tell me something or leave it but please do not say I adored it and so will you.
So if I came by this book via my usual way of shopping I would have given it a skip.

I mean really. It is minimal wording high gushing praise that leaves me cold.

But I did not come by it in my usual way.
So I started to read the book and must say the one true negative of the story is that an entire host of characters are introduced that is really left to fall flat on their backs. Some are turned on their side from time to time like a good roast. Some however was truly magnificent.

And this is where the book got and kept my attention. It is a mystery thriller with twists, it is really explicit in it's true to life descriptions of pedophiles etc but it does not glorify it, it puts it forward as a despicable fact of life.

The story at a stage becomes predictable. It is however not from the get go and you the reader tend to suspect everybody even, yes, our poor heroine. But not until your a very good ways in does it thruth hit you and even then a nice little surprise follows that first realization.

I think by now you know I love the book. So if you want, I say go for it. You cannot go wrong with it.

I got 36% into this but had to call it a day in the end as there are just too many mistakes and really, life's too short to be wading through books that aren't properly presented.
"I glanced at Jacob who asleep on Michael's knee" or "He placed a cup of coffee in front of me and bending to kiss my cheek" or "She wore red knee length skirt."
There were apostrophe errors and speechmarks kept being missed as well. THAT happened a lot and it was on page 134 and it happened again that I gave up on it.
I liked the quote at the start-"No trait is more justified than revenge in the right time and place"-Meir Kehane.
I was NOT liking Amanda at all and the way she behaved. I'd wondered why, at the beginning, that she was at a party in jeans, so I sided with her husband there. I thought she behaved terribly at times, though in no way am I excusing him, either. Yes, I'm sure if I read on further I'd have learned of all her earlier trials and tribulations but I just wasn't that interested anymore.

4.5 stars. Downloaded this book to my kindle as Amazon had it on offer and as it was free who was I to turn the offer away. What a book, could not put it down and read it in an afternoon. The book flowed really well the only glitch to the book for me was because of the storyline some bits were not easy to read but otherwise than that what a great book.

I read this book knowing it was a murder mystery but not realising it was so much more. It deals with such issues as child abuse, cheating husbands and of course plenty of murders. I read a huge amount so I have read one with a similar enough twist to solve the mystery however this didn't detract from the story in the slightest. I loved the characters, and the ongoing relationship story line going through to her next book. If you like a good murder mystery this is for you.

Netta Newbound has written a powerful story to introduce DI Stanley in Behind Shadows: A Psychological Mystery Thriller (Adam Stanley Series Book 1) An Adam Stanley Psychological Thriller. Amanda Flynn’s life is in chaos. Her husband cheats on her, deserts her for his mistress and takes their children with him. Her past comes back to haunt her when her paedophile father is released early; he went to prison vowing revenge on the daughter who testified against him. Is he the stalker in the shadows? Murdered bodies are discovered one after another and Amanda, who is diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder has connections with them all, and no alibi. Abandoned, scared and doubting her own sanity, Amanda turns to DI Adam Stanley, but is he right to believe in her innocence or is Amanda a serial murderess?

Behind Shadows: A Psychological Mystery Thriller is the first of Netta Newbound’s novels featuring Detective Inspector Adam Stanley and it looks set to win thousands of fans for the series. Lonely after the death of his wife, Adam is vulnerable and so is Amanda. Her story twists and turns. I “guessed the end” so many times, wrongly; meticulously researched, it reveals the terrible cost to the victims of paedophiles, and the depraved lengths to which others will go to cover up the crime, for love or to hide their own perversions. Netta Newbound’s Behind Shadows is a horrific thriller that hooks readers in the first paragraph and plays them like fish on a line: an intense, brilliant, five star, must-read.

Typically I find my next book by reading reviews on goodreads and seeing what my friends have read recently. Behind Shadows was found by searching the psychological thriller genre under kindle unlimited. I figured I would try the service for a month. The first few weeks I was disappointed with the choices and unable to find a book that I haven't read yet and that could hold my interest, but I'm glad I did not give up! I'm so happy that I gave Behind Shadows a chance. I can see myself getting into more of Mrs. Newbounds writing.

Although I figured out the ending a few chapters before this book did not disappoint! There were plenty of twists and turns. I'm excited to read the second book in the story and hopefully get a glimpse into the characters lives and to find out where they are now. I found myself very invested in the characters.

This book is not for those who do not like graphic material. There is a lot of detail regarding the abuse the main character had suffered. At times I feel authors can over do it with the detail, but this book was very well written. Definitely a book I could not put down!

Kept me guessing

This book was great. The only thing that bothered me was the explicit details of the sexual abuse but I already knew to expect it going in. Overall, I couldn't put this book down.

I have just completed this book. The book is gripping and holds one's interest throughout. It is a book that could best be described as a psychological thriller. Amanda Flynn is the main character in the book and she has many problems as a result of the child abuse that she had suffered. Her husband, Michael, has been cheating on her and has not been much of a support. Her father had served a prison sentence for pedophilia of which she and her brother, Andrew, were victims. This writer, who is relatively unknown has certainly proved herself as a very talented writer and certainly has the gift of holding one's interest until the last page. The situations that Amanda had found herself were tough and she was doing her utmost to care for her children. The starter of the book was her discovery of her husband, Michael, engaging in a sex act with his mistress and the way she reacted to it. So many surprises occur in this book that holds one's interest throughout. This is an excellent read and deserves recommendation. It is not a read for the faint-hearted.

Netta Newbound had me from the beginning AGAIN! Every time I read one of Netta's books, I just want more and more. A page turning story that leads you down into the darkness and evil that only the most disgusting humans on earth could bestow on their own children. Death isn't good enough for these people.

I'm in love with Adam Stanley and so very happy that this is a four book set. I would hate to think book 1 is the end for him. I just want more and more.

You love thrillers? You love stories that make you wonder what makes people evil or just plain crazy? If you love stories that make you wonder how any human could endure such an awful experience without losing their own mind, this is the book for you.

Amanda Flynn's life isn't good right now. First she finds her husband with another woman then she finds out that her paedophile father has been released from prison. She keeps having a feeling that she's being watched and is worried that it may be her father who threatened revenge when he got sent down. One by one those responsible for all the sexual abuse she and her brother suffered are being killed. As she suffers from dissociative identity disorder she's not sure if she is actually the killer or not. Can Detective Adam Stanley uncover the truth?
Yet another great read from Netta Newbound and has five stars from me

What an excellent read. No fear in tackling the disturbing issue of child abuse and the long term impact in this story. Gritty and close to the bone in places, it really showed insight into distorted thinking of predators and the vulnerability of children, even in their own homes. Characterisation was excellent and the impact of keeping secrets played out in the relationships of the main characters. The story knitted together well and the ending, although not wholly a surprise, was not drawn out unnecessarily.

I found this book quite by chance through author Marcus Brown's reviews and thoroughly enjoyed it and am so happy there are further parts to the story.
A very sad, but twisted tale, and I have to admit in places, shocking.
I don't want to give away the plot, but this book shows us quite candidly the after-effects of child abuse and how it can ruin lives.
A great read and well written.
I am looking forward to finding out how Amanda moves on with her life after the revelations toward the end of the book.
Once again, I have found an author that writes without pretention and tells a good story.

A past that comes back to haunt in unusual way...

Amanda and her brother were sexually abused as children, now a mother of two she feels as though she is being watched. Believing like those around her that she maybe losing it, especially when the abusers from her past start showing up. The only one who thinks something is off, is DI Adam Stanley, but will be figure it out in time?

An interesting murder mystery that keeps wondering who the real killer is to the last page.

This is the first of the Adam Stanley Thriller series.

If you’ve read the blurb before starting and liked, then you’re in for a brilliant unputdownable read.
I felt sorry for the main character, Amanda. She’s still struggling to overcome the abuse she experienced as a child, by her father and his friends.
Her marriage is unhappy. He thinks she’s paranoid. Why? I kept thinking.
We have a few gruesome
murders pop up in the story.
Some lovely characters, but some bad too. Is it wrong to like a bad character?

So glad to hear this series continues.

Believable and tragic

A sad and tragic story of lives damaged by sexual predators. I think parts of the story should have had warnings of descriptions of an explicit nature. The subject of the story is such that sexual acts are a given, but I think some parts of the story were too graphic.
That said, I think the author caprured the essence of what it must feel like to have suffered trauma of a serious nature in childhood.

Amanda’s childhood was horrific and now people age starting to die. But is she responsible? Is she blocking things out, having a mental block? Luckily a new detective is on hand to work his way through the murders and offer support at the same time. A good book, well worth a read. Keeps you guessing and ends well. If a book ends and you didn’t guess what would happen that’s always a winner for me.

Another brilliant story!!

I just didn't want to stop reading this book despite the quite horrific and disturbing memories that were brought to life, although at times I didn't want to carry on reading either, but this was such a compelling read.
I thought I knew who was guilty, then twists threw me off again and again until I realised I actually had no idea at all!
A brilliant storyline with an outcome I never expected! Highly recommended!!

Great characterisation in this gripping psychological thriller with an ending I didn't see coming.

Amanda Flynn's life is falling apart when she catches her husband having an affair. As if this isn't enough to contend with her father is a convicted paedophile.

Definitely not a read for the squeamish, the deaths come thick and fast, an intriguing read not to be missed.
