Ivy and Beckett have been inseparable since the age of five-next-door neighbors, best friends, and each other's safe haven. But everything changes the summer before high school, when Ivy's mom falls gravely ill. In the midst of heartbreak, Beckett makes Ivy a if neither of them is married by thirty, they'll marry each other. But when Ivy's world falls apart, she shuts Beckett out, and he buries himself in football. By the time school starts, the best friends have become strangers-him the rising jock, her the grief-stricken loner.
One final tragedy sends Ivy running to New York, and Beckett to the NFL, their lives permanently divided. Years later, Ivy returns home to run her late aunt's bookstore. When an injury forces Beckett back too, he's determined to fix what they lost. But some promises are easier made than kept-and some wounds run deeper than time.
This was a really sweet story. The second chances, childhood best friends trope was adorable. Watching their love story unfold was just fun.
There were a few grammatical errors that I feel like could be caught from outside readers so I hope they can get edited out.
A quick read, but I also felt like it went on a little too long. I felt like the honeymoon chapters were a bit extra and could have been left out. I wish it had just stopped at the wedding and then epilogue.
