A big big thanks to Noëlle for reaching out to me and asking if I want to write a review!
Didahihi is a book about the 1977 Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders. We follow Sonny, who lives within the Native American community. Slowly but surely, fingers are being pointed towards them. Who else could've done it, right?
The book goes at a slow pace, it is very descriptive. While I do think it was beautifully written, the descriptions and conversations became a bit repetitive over time. I felt like Sonny kept having the same conversations with the same people over and over, and I noticed a lot of particular words returning frequently.
I do think she is good at writing plot twists, giving you just enough snippets to figure out what happens yourself (if you'd like), yet make it impactful and shocking at the end.
If we're going to be completely honest: at first I had my doubts if a person, who is not part of the Native American community, should even write a book like this, from the perspective of a person who is. We dive deep into their community, their rituals and more. But it is very clear that Noëlle did a lot of research and for that, I can only applaud and praise her, well done.
I know for sure there will be loads of people out there that will love this book. If you're looking for a slow, psychological and mysterious read, this one is for you (:
