The Darling Devils #3

Wild Darling: A Charming, Wholesome Young Adult Romance Featuring Enemies-to-Lovers, Hockey Rivals, and First Love

Rate this book
Alexandra Moody's BookTok sensation DARLING DEVILS series is back with the most devilish Darling brother of all — in a wholesome, banter-filled ice-hockey romance perfect for fans of Hannah Grace, slow-burn chemistry, and happily ever afters!

She's ready to take a shot at her goals. He doesn't realize that his heart is wide open . . .

Parker Darling is ready to take center ice now that his older brothers have left to play hockey in college. He shows up to the first practice ready to be team captain of the Ransom Devils, only to find a new coach at the rink—one who already hates Parker for a dumb mistake he made years ago. A mistake he made with the help of Coach Foster's daughter, Mackenzie.

Kenzie Foster loves hockey, too, and she's a ruthless goalie. If only her dad hadn't forbidden her from playing—not that she'd want to be on any team with that arrogant jerk Parker Darling. She can't believe she's stuck on the bench at a new school, watching the Devils struggle to win without the force of all three Darling brothers.

Parker hates losing, and when the Devils' star goalie is cut, he knows he has to step up and lead the team back to greatness. Kenzie, meanwhile, sees a wide-open net and an unused uniform just waiting to prove her dad wrong. They'll need to work together to reach their goals—without getting too close to making another big mistake.

What a fitting conclusion to this heartfelt and hilarious hockey romance series!

Now getting into the actual review 😮‍💨...here's a lovely quote to set the mood:

"I didn't want other girls. I wanted the girl that pissed me off. The girl who called me on my shit. The girl who laughed or threw a middle finger up when I called her on hers. I wanted the girl who was fiery and determined. The girl who took up so much space in my head, even when she wasn't around, it was a miracle I could think of anything else."

⭐️ Soooooooooo.....5 stars? Yes, very much 5 star material here. I would like to take it a step further and say that the entire series is a 5 star series. ⭐️

Honestly, the romance was cute, it really was. But it felt more like a bonus to all the other stuff that was going on. Not that this is a bad thing, in fact I think it worked rather amazingly for this book. I liked how a lot of the focus and page time was dedicated to Parker and Kenzie's hockey training and all that comes with it. There was a coming of age vibe to this book which obviously endeared it even more in my eyes.

While I felt that some of the romance was sidelined for more of the ins and outs of the hockey world, the romance that was there was absolutely delightful. First, Parker and Kenzie were actually enemies. Wow, enemies to lovers where they're actually enemies?? Who would have thought? Anyway the romance is great, the tension was great and their chemistry practically drips off the page. I was eating up every second of them. The banter was also pretty great. And that's saying a lot coming from someone who loves to cringe and make fun of "flirty banter" that's really just bullying or bad jokes wrapped in the label of "banter." So that was refreshing and I thank you Alexandra Moody!

Overall this was a banging 5 star read and this entire series is something that I would definitely be interested in rereading and time or two.

𖥻 “ kiss me so we can go back to simply hating each other. kiss me, so i can stop feeling this way whenever you walk into a room.' ”

so happy to be back in this world again. like i'm telling you sometimes all a girl needs is

a) a silly little YA interconnected standalone
b) that's entertaining asf
c) with real enemies to lovers!!

i scream into the void.

this one was definitely my favourite in the series- & i'm not surprised. the author lowkey stepped up her game with this one. the yearning, the banter eek it was all so cutesy <3 definitely had it's cringe moments as well that made me physically put down my kindle but ah.... what can you do.

parker + mackenzie are adorable and i love how confident mackenzie was in her hockey skills. girl if i was the only girl on an all boys hockey team i would've freaked out but hg pushed past the criticism and found her way. like, yes! i love this for her!

cuteness overload aside, this was not especially "well written" and had that cringe aspect as i mentioned before. but it was entertaining enough for me to move past it.

the single crumb we got for the next (and last??) book is SENDING ME. i just know the drama is gonna be so tea. 💌

╰very cute and fast paced!!

“so, no, there weren’t other girls. there was only her.”

⌗my thoughts!🩵

this was pretty cute!! from the series its def my least fav, book 1 is the best out of the three imo but i still liked this!! there were a few moments that were kinda cringey and gave me second-hand embarrassment to the point where i had to close my kindle😭😭 but the story was good! parker was always displayed as the crazy one of the 3 brothers which def showed but i think him and mackenzie were perfect for e/o💗 i also loved the small glimpses we got of reed+violet and grayson+paige!! such cute couples 🥹

⌗characters💛

⊹ mackenzie
╰  ࣪ ˖ although she was a BIT insufferable at times overall she ate🤏🤏 like hello miss girl playing goalie on an all boys hockey time? diva behavior im telling u 🌷 her and parker’s relationship from enemies to acquaintances to friends to lovers was very well done aww!! they’re perfect for e/o fr!!

⊹ parker
╰  ࣪ ˖ he was mentioned a decent bit in books 1+2 and i acc wasn’t sure if i was gonna like him…but hey his character development was WILD!! him and mackenzie= power duo! its so sad seeing all the pressure placed on him bc his two older brothers are hockey superstars awh😭

overall this was very cute!! cringe at times but i enjoyed it, the perfect palette cleanser!! i would definitely reccomend this series it’s so fun yayy!

love,

ᴡɪʟᴅ ᴅᴀʀʟɪɴɢ
I loved this book so much and I honestly didnt think that I would which breaks my heart because I loved the rest of the series but I did end up coming around at the 2nd half of the book. I loved all of the representation we got with the women in hockey because I do think that women in sports isn’t talked about enough but its rare to see a female playing hockey in a mens league it almost never happens and I loved the fact that she was a goalie. The only thing I had a love hate relationship with is the fact that Parker was essentially told to back off from protecting her (Mind you this is the same girl that punched him in about the second chapter so she was more than capable of protecting herself) but generally most players are protective of their goalie but I loved that Parker was trying to protect her even though she did not need it in the SLIGHTEST. I also loved the cameos we got in this book (Grayson my baby ilysm) but it was just good to be back in Ransom. I do totally recommend this series because I am extremely picky with my hockey romances and I love this series. Side note: Parker calling Mackenzie different names reminded me of Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams and how Annie is always trying to guess Will’s name.

🏒𝒫𝒶𝓇𝓀ℯ𝓇 😈
I didnt LOVE Parker in his brothers books because he was very playboy ish to me and I just generally don’t like that hockey players are perceived that way (although some are) I loved that we got to see him actually falling in love instead of going from girl to girl. I also loved that we got to see his art and how he was reluctant to share his art with Mackenzie. Also HE LIKES MARIAH CAREY?!? I loved the part where he was singing obsessed( looking back this would have been a better song choice but I thought that into you would have been a better choice because of their history together) I also loved that we saw a more emotional side of Parker without his brothers and the expectations that were put on him to play as the lone Darling Devil and live up to the name but I also loved how she wrote the team bonding scenes. But I liked Parker in his own book way more than his brothers.

🎧𝓜𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓮𝓷𝔃𝓲𝓮🥅
I loved Mackenzie so much, she reminded me of my best friend because she had such a bold personality but also very gentle once you got to know her. I loved that was able to get past her overprotective dad and play the game (although once I understood her dad’s reasoning for being that way I understood a little bit more) I do think her dad was being fair about the rules for parker considering Mackenzie’s history with him. I loved that her and Parker bonded over art and hockey because in truth sports (especially hockey) can help you find the one you love. I have had it happen to me twice (platonically and romantically) but regardless I loved the way that their chemistry was written especially as an enemies to lovers plot line.

(I NEED CAMMIES BOOK AND BASED OFF THIS BOOK I THINK ITS GOING TO BE BROTHERS BEST FRIEND OR HER FALLING IN LOVE WITH HER SKATING PARTNER IDK I JUST NEED IT NOW)

Grayson is still my favorite Darling Devil tho 😝

this is a spoiler-free review

Please don’t hate me for this review y’all 😭 I love Rival Darling and Grumpy Darling. This one just did not hit for me at all.

🎧Now Playing: Risk by Gracie Abrams

🎶look at me now. said I wouldn’t do it but I hunted you down🎶

I had such high expectations for this book, and unfortunately it just didn’t meet them.It just felt so different than the other books of the series. It wasn’t giving cutesy romance to me, and I really didn’t like Parker all that much compared to Reed and Grayson (I’m sorry 😭)

ALSO TOTAL ASIDE but you agree with nothing about this review, I’m sorry 😭 I really am not trying to be a hater. There was a time I wouldn’t give a book anything lower than three stars because I didn’t want to tick people off, so I am taking this as a win (🥳) if only because my ratings are more accurate to me now. SCORE ig (I hate reads that flop with a passion tho 😭😑)

I did think the back and forth banter was cute at times, and I loved the whole approval from the dad/team, but otherwise? Eh. The plot fell flat, the story kinda ended just when it was starting to get good, and both of the MCs are so stinking immature. I love Grayson and Paige with my whole heart, and I think about them a lot. I doubt I will remember Kenzie and Parker by the end of the week.

Though some of the stuff in here was so cringy that maybe I will. 😭

🎶know you had a girl but it didn’t work out🎶

I think my biggest ick was Parker. Parker was such a player, and I know that there was supposed to be the whole “oh he changed for her thing” but honestly? It wasn’t well executed in my opinion. He was really arrogant, and I felt like his character arc was rushed. It’s only the last 25% we get his one girl, sweet, lovesick side. The other 75% he’s cocky and pushing the line and only doing things for Kenzie because he enjoys seeing her frustrated. I guess what this all means is I am really not into players. I didn’t find him or his personality attractive at all. I kind of figured his story would be my least favorite book, but I am still disappointed. 😔

🎶know you bought a house, but you had to move out and I’m not proud🎶

Kenzie was also kind of mid in my opinion. We didn’t hear much about her before Ransom High, just that she moved, which I was disappointed by. I think developing a character’s backstory is a crucial element of a story, especially when a character has an extreme amount of angst (like MacKenzie). She was really rude to her dad throughout, and kept saying things like “I don’t need you to protect me I need you to support me” which is total crap. A dad’s job is to protect his kids and look out for them. Doesn’t matter if they’re 5 or 18. Your dad should be concerned if you are a girl in a man’s sport (SIDENOTE: not saying women shouldn’t play hockey, but against boys? No. Injuries would abound because God made us both different. Men aren’t superior to women and women aren’t superior to men. We are just built in different ways. Women shouldn’t not go head to head with men in sports. That’s for protection. The dad was totally right to be concerned.) or if you are hanging around with a player boy. I also didn’t like how comfortable Kenzie was with lying to both her father and stepmom. I think she just had really low character. I was disappointed by her, and I think it kept me from rooting for her fully.

🎶guess I’m just scared of you shooting it down. you can just talk and I’ll stare at your mouth🎶

The romance was also disappointing in my opinion, because it was littered with so many innuendos. I will get into it more in my content section, but they are literally just physically obsessed the entire time. Character is not really a concern for either of them. Also, because of how much of a player Parker was and how forbidden the relationship was, I felt like the romantic banter and cuteness only really happened in the last third or so of the novel. The beginning was more them hating each other and being forced to hang out but the tension literally cones from them kissing at fourteen. Because they are both hot. There really aren’t any other attractive factors. *sighs loudly*

🎶you could be bad but I wanna find out and, and I wake up in the middle of the night with the light on🎶

Content is where the two stars were solidified for me:

SPICE - lots of innuendo. Kenzie steals Parker’s clothes while he’s showering right at the beginning of the book, so he has to walk back to his car without them, and it prompts sporadic comments the rest of the book, talk about getting in someone’s pants, kissing and thinking about kissing, Parker sneaks into Kenzie’s room (just to talk), mom reads a book with a half dressed man on the front, Kenzie attends a class with a hula hoop instructor who women fawn over and who stuffs his “package” (the books words, not mine 💀)

LANGUAGE - more than either book before: sh-t, d-mn, a-s, h-ll, Lord’s name in vain a handful of times

LGBTQ - none

SPIRITUAL - Parker thinks about something being an omen, woman clutches rosary beads

🎶and I feel like I could die. cause you’re not here, and it don’t feel right. cause you’re not here🎶

To sum this review up, I am bummed because the other two were so clean, and this one was so borderline. I had such high hopes, and I literally recommend Grumpy Darling to everyone, so it isn’t an author issue. This was just not what I was hoping for. I will read the one about Cammie (and Seth hopefully 😱), because I love the rest of this series and I want to give the Darlings another shot.

I wouldn’t recommend this particular book, but they are all standalone books connected by overlapping characters, so you could totally read the rest of the series and skip this one!

🎶oh I’m actually invested, haven’t even met yet. watch this be the wrong thing, classic🎶

Thank you so much for reading my review! Have a blessed day! 🫶🏻

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5 stars)

i love Parker so much. he's sarcastic, chaotic, and really earns the title of "wild" Darling. but i loved his determination. the way he wanted to bring the team closer together. a also really liked how Parker never once doubted Mackenzie. he wanted her on the team because he knew she was good enough and deserved that sport just as much as any of the guys.

going into this, i thought i wouldn't like Mackenzie but i ended up really liking her. she was relatable, strong and really matched Parker's attitude. they knew how to hand each other's personalities and they just worked well together.

i liked how their relationship when from "i hate you" to "i don't mind you, but i still have to hate you" to "i wish i hated you, but i actually love you."

there were also some good quotes in this book. one of my favourite was Parker's analogy about music:

"Have you ever hated a song the first time you heard it? And then the more it comes on the radio, the more it drives you insane? But then after a while, you start humming it everywhere you go. You know all the words. It's on all your playlists. And somehow, despite everything you thought before, it becomes your favourite song?"
"Mackenzie is my song."

now, an explanation of why it wasn't 5 stars. as much as i loved this book, it just didn't have the 5 star kick. the ending felt rushes and cut short. i would have loved to see more of parker and mackenzie together after everything they went through. the pacing toward the end was too fast for my liking.

still, this was a really enjoyable read. it was light and a good clean enemies to lovers romance. i hope we get a book about Cammie, the youngest Darling, because i love her. (grumpy darling will forever by my favourite)

Really liked this one!
The enemies to lovers trope was really well done in this book. The characters were really likeable. I loved Mackenzie she was such a girl boss! I loved that there was a deeper reason for kenzie’s dad to not let her play cause “not letting her play because she’s a girl” would’ve been really stupid.
and…Ahhh Parker and Mackenzie make such a cute couple!!!

Oh. My. PARKERRR.
This one was probably my favorite of the series. I’ve had so much fun reading these books, and I lowkey don’t want to have to wait until November for the next book to come outttt.
There wasn’t really anything about this series that was groundbreaking, but all of the books together created one of my new favorite troupe packed storylines! It was just so cute, bingeable, and ultimately a good time. It reminded me of a younger, high school version of one of my favorite series by Cindy Steel, so I loved that!
Kenzie and Parker were probably my favorite couple of the series, mostly cause I just liked Parker so much hehe. The sports romance, enemies to lovers, play boy/bad boy (which is, again, lowkey my favorite troupeee)—it was all such a vibe.

(The only thing I’d have younger YA readers note with this series is that there is a lot of underage drinking which was very unnecessary as well as some mild cussing that doesn’t have anything to do with the main story, just is at parties and whatnot. There is also probably the most innuendos out out of series in this one).

I really loved Parker though out this whole book and its a perfect light read. parkers character development was done really well. however I felt like the ending was really abrupt and unfinished, I would of loved to see more of parker and Kenzie. I also feel like Kenzie's conflict with her dad wasn't portrayed well. I feel like if your not talking to your father for weeks it would have a much larger affect on you than shown in the book, it was mentioned a few times but it just felt bushed over. overall I think is a good book but I'm going to have to stick with the second one in the series being my favourite.

Okay so, read this book in one sitting because HELLO? IT WAS SOOO GOOD!!!!!
The ending bits were sooo sad, like I cried tears of happiness and sadness because like tell me why I'm never going to experience this kind of loveee 😫😫

Okay I like to go character by character - I always do that!!!

First we have McKenzie - I love herrr, she's so nice and sweet! Like her relationship with Parker is just so witty and URGHHH!! Her relationship with her father although is just truly heartwarming, him really only caring about hockey, and how it's a "mens sport" then turning into the backstory of her widowed mother and it's just sooo sweet and him at the end being nice and I couldn't I cried in the bit where Parker gave her very own jersey with her mother's number - so sweet I genuinely canttt!!!

Next, we have - Parker Darling, omfg bro, this man (we all say this for every fictional men, that we like lol) Him being so down bad is just like.... Crazy and DONT GET ME STARTED ON HIM THROWING ROCKS AND CLIMBING THROUGH HER WINDOW TO HER ROOM!!! AHHHH!!!! LITERALLY ALL THOSE OLD PEAK ROMANCESSS!!!! I can't literally SO sweet!!! And him rejecting Vanessa because of Kenzie's judgmental eyes at the party.... URGHHH!!! I could go on about him for ages but let's get a move on!!!

I really just do the FMC and MMC with the longest paragraphs and the other characters with just short ones!!

Okayyy - Jaz!!! Ekkk, she is such a nice girlll likeee, and throughout the book I was shipping her and Isaac but ahhhh!!! Literally so good like genuinely she was so nice and I always love when the new girl just has that like main trio and someone else she meets at the start and then two are like sooo close and it's just sooo heartwarming I canttt 🥹🥹

Okayyy next is Isaac, he's such a little book nerd, JUST LIKE MEEEE, I relate to him so much when he was just rereading Lord of the rings (I haven't tho lol, just like rereading bookss) But yeahh, we don't see him that much at the end of the book and he's just a side but omfg, he has glasses (just wanted to point outtt)

Okay next is coach foster (Kenzie's dad) ehhh, lowkey pissed me off at the start but like I knew they were kinda gonna bond and he had some deep traumatic backstory but yeahhh!!! I just wish he would pay more attention to his daughter lol... And like accept Parker in the first place like they had a secret kiss... Idk what year they're in like maybe 12? I have no freaking clue like I didn't see anything related to it, but like wait that would've meant she'd been like 15 or 14 lolll... But yeah...

Sethhh, my little diva lollll, I literally thanked him when he told Kenzie that there was no one in the changing rooms (when Parker was there) LIKEEE.... 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🤭🤭🫣🫣 But yeahhh, he was literally such a good character lol, I loved the fight club thing like 😭🙏

Who else.....

Grayson and Reed...

OMGGGG
Okay wait I can't even remember if I read the 2nd book and who was that with.... Was it Grayson and Paige??? Yes it WASSS!!! If I remembered lol.... But OMG MY MAN MY MAN MY MANNNNNNSSSSSS!!!!! Love them, they're iconic and they do iconic shitttt

Okay well like those are my favs, I hate Elliot, just like he was so rude to Kenzie... (Also hate him because he's named Elliot, like Elliot ward....)

Welllll, that wraps it uppp!!!
