When teenagers start dying around town, it's up to Detective Angus Young to figure out if the cases are connected and who would want them dead.

"Beside me in bed is my favorite way to be with you."

4.5⭐️

Ghostly Death, book number seven in the Ghostly series, really made me feel. It was a rollercoaster of a ride. And even though we did not really get to know the teens who kept ending up dead, I still felt really bad in this one.

All these teenagers dying because, in the end, someone was stupid and hateful as hell — it honestly made me sad, and yes, I shed some tears. I completely understood Angus' feelings toward the end. It just felt like, somehow, some way, these kids could have been saved, and that was what bummed me out the most.

To be honest, the premise behind how they were dying and the lore surrounding it would actually make for a really great scary paranormal horror story. Just putting that out there.

I felt so bad for them. There were some really painful, terrible ways to die, and these kids did not deserve that at all.

I really, really liked this one. But there is not much more I can say without spoiling things, so I will leave it at that.

4 stars. Audiobook. Paranormal cozy mystery with a touch of romance, zero spice, contemporary setting, series of 9 books following the same couple. Police homicide detective and medical examiner that can see ghosts. I would not say this is a buying-level series, but if you can get it from the library or part of a subscription service, then go for it. Maybe a good pallet cleanser after something super emotional since there is very little drama, angst or action.

The stories were well written and I eventually warmed to the characters, but the series overall was somewhat bland. It was too light in too many areas and needed a bump-up somewhere. No spice, little to no romance and sweetness, lack luster bad-guys, average investigating, no extra quirky parents, no nosy but endearing neighbors, no sassy friends or snarky ghosts, no obnoxious but lovable siblings/boss, no crass BFF or fun-loving crazy aunt. We don’t even get any decent hurt/comfort. At book 5, the MCs are a couple but still going home alone and spending so much time separate, even when they are dealing with some sad stuff and only a short drive away. There was some cuddle scenes and sweetness, but it’s really far into the series and sparse. I feel a bit unfair in my assessment because these books are fine, I’ve just read so many that are similar but way more than fine.

A series of murders has Angus feeling guilty and helpless

3.5 stars…In this book we get to see a bit of the downside for Angus having inside information from ghosts. As a group of teenagers are picked off one by one Angus feels powerless even though he has some inside info from a ghost of one of the teens.

I found a lot of the situations implausible. Despite their kids’ friends being murdered these parents are pretty blasé. I’d have been glued to my kid in similar situations, not leaving the kid home and going out shopping. It also seems like the cops could have been a bit more pro active even without hard evidence. The suspect was obvious from the minute they are introduced. And the reason why is pretty obvious though not to the cops.

There’s a lot of repetition and quite a few typos so a good editor and proofreader would have been helpful.

a fantastic series just got better with a great story,Ghostly Death

Rating: 4.75🌈

The Ghostly series by E M Leya continues its quiet, very terrific otherworldly journey with Ghostly Death, a poignant tale of young teenagers lost too soon to a mysterious serial killer, a disheartening investigation, and a crime whose resolution feels realistic, sad, and, as the officers and main characters will say, not entirely satisfactory.

Leya’s story is so well written, slowly pulling the events together, one horrific incident after another, like puzzle pieces fitting into the scene to form a larger picture for the police and medical examiner’s team to investigate. That the case will have help from the some of the beautifully portrayed victims in the form of their ghosts is not just a major narrative element but a quietly powerful emotional aspect of the story. We will see the events from their perspective, feel the grim reality, and their grief.

It’s one of the things I’ve so appreciated about this series and the author’s writing is how Leya builds the characters, including them in their lives, families and surroundings. Whether they are the main characters, surrounding cast, or the victims, they are real to us in their realism. The readers understand these characters because they are grounded in ways we ourselves recognize.

There’s no huge drama. Instead it’s personal stories that make the most poignantly deep impact and ones which are those we can relate to, that will hit us emotionally.

I absolutely recommend reading this series and story. It helps to read them in the order they are written. Here the characters are still dealing with the aftermath of the events from the last book. Again very believable and raw.

I’m looking forward to the next in the series, Ghostly Dilemma. With this book, a strong series got even better.

I have read every book in this series, except for the last one. (Ghostly Awakening, Ghostly Findings, Ghostly Envy, Ghostly Claus, Ghostly Target, Ghostly Hostage, Ghostly Death, and Ghostly Dilemma) The entire series are 4-4.25 stars all day long. If you are looking for sexy times on page that stem up your reading glasses, this is not that at all. All sexy times are off page and that doesn't distract from the stories at all but adds to its charm. It actually feels sweet. This is a soft, slow burn, low angst, story with two cinnamon rolls for main characters that both give me a toothache. This is seriously a great palate cleanser and while there are some stakes the story is not about that.

Lance, an assistance medical examiner is on his first day back at work after a bad car accident almost killed him. His only family is his brother, who is away in the Navy. Lance leads a quiet life very alone in his daily life with few friends he has at work. One his first day back, the ghost of one of the corpses on his table starts to talk to him and Lance thinks it is a side effect of the head injury he sustained, he feels crazy and is freaking out about what it means for his future. In comes Angus a homicide detective that inadvertently sees Lance interact with a ghost for the first time. Growing up with a mother who can speak to the dead, Angus feels compelled to help Lance understand what is happening to him.

What comes after is Lance finding friendship and love in both the living and the dead. Finding family, friends, and love has never been so sweet. The respect and care Lance and Angus show each other is top tier relationship goals. The books are not action packed, there are no explosions, no hanging by one finger off the edge of a cliff moments. But these stories carry a lot of heart and are just sweet. Definitely going to check out E.M. Leya's other series.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I’m new to EM Leya’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Ghostly Series. It’s definitely one of my favourites of the series so far but also heartbreaking. The case that Angus & Franks were investigating was completely horrible and I shed a few tears thinking about how those left behind will cope with all they’ve lost. Lance & his ghost friends are there to help aid in the investigation where they can. This case hits Angus especially hard feeling like he let people down and didn’t do enough to protect those in danger.

Lance is there listening to and just helping him process the case. I think they make an amazing team and I’m glad they got away for some much needed alone time for some rest and relaxation after this messed up case was solved. Please note that the murder scenes are rather descriptive. I’ve read dark romances before so it didn’t bother me too much, but others may find it hard to read. Man, Franks has come so far from when he learnt about ghosts. I’m looking forward to reading Ghostly Dilemma next, as well as more books by EM Leya in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to others.

This one frustrated me to no end. It started with the whole hey 2 girls who are close friends have died and the 3rd girl who they hang out with all the time might be in danger. She's only 17 but I'll just call and leave a message for her to call me. I won't bother informing the parents she might be in danger until tomorrow. Then there was Angus and the whole I have to meet with the parents and I can't tell them their daughter is dead because she hasn't been reported missing. REALLY? You can't say you saw her picture because you are investigating all the teens in that group and when another dead teen turned up the ME's office contacted you and you recognized her from her picture. Then another teen is attacked and YOU KNOW the last two are in danger and you have an idea about who the killer is but do you take any actions to protect the last 2 teens or SERIOUSLY STRESS to the parents how much danger they are in - Nope. Finally,

This might be the end of the road for me with this series.

I don't know why I keep reading this series. The stories are very simplistic, the writing repetitive with tons of filler, and there are absolutely no sexy times, but for some reason I really like Lance and Angus and their houseful of ghosts. I'm sure I'll read the next one.

You know, it's absolutely possible to like a book and still be irritated by it. All I'm going to say is if you know somebody is killing teenagers in a way they are the most terrified to die, you do not leave them willy-nilly out there in the world. You protect them, you put protection on them. Three dead girls, one dead boy, and one attempted murder later and you're still not protecting these kids.

Lance and Agnus are back and this time they are investigating a group of teenagers who have died under suspicious circumstances.
It was an interesting theory about why and how they died. I can just about buy the killer who was exposed at the end of the book.
So glad there will be another in the series.

Lance & Angus

Another good one. Enjoying this series. The deaths of teenagers, all friends, has the detectives and the morgue busy. I’ve been able to figure out the murderer in a couple of these but just like Angus, we need the evidence to catch up. The ghosts do their part as usual and it’s nice that they help the newer ghosts get acclimated.

The murderer was pretty obvious, but it was kind of nice to have an easier book after the last one. Lance and Angus are happily living together with a few ghost roommates and a sweet dog. Life is good, but would be better if Angus wasn’t getting phone calls about dead teenagers. These characters are so wonderful and the stories are always intriguing.

I love this series, I really do. Angus and Lance again are caught up in a mysterious death invesigation when ghosts appear to lend a hand. Teenagers are beginning to get murdered. No explanation, and as they begin to seek the connection of the dead teens it gets really complicated. This was a hard one for me because it involved the death of younger characters, so fair warning. But I love the dynamics of these characters, their unliving friends, and of course the trope of "I see dead people".

Another great entry for Angus and Lance! Their connection continues to grow stronger with each book, and I really enjoyed how their relationship was balanced alongside the paranormal mystery in this one. The ghostly elements were fun and added just enough tension without overshadowing the romance.

Angus and Lance have such a good dynamic—supportive, protective, and full of heart. The story moved at a good pace, and it was great to see how far they’ve come as a couple. If you’ve been following the series, this is another solid installment that keeps things interesting while staying true to what makes these two so great.

Can’t wait to see what happens next!
