Amber grew up reading sick and twisted murder mysteries. Romance was for little kids and their fairy tales. One day, after her grandmother died and she inherited a boat load of romances, Amber found a new genre to love. Then she discovered erotic romance and found her calling.

In the summer, when not creating sexy, seductive stories, Amber can be found at the ocean or floating around in her pool, with music blasting in the background. In the winter she enjoys sitting in her sunroom watching the snow fall, with the fireplace glowing. She also spends lots of time with her husband, children, and three dogs.

Adrift was a quick enjoyable read. Wished for a bit more character development, though. Their relationship evolves too quickly to be quite believable. Each of the main characters have past issues that I would have liked to have known more about, but in a story this length they stayed at a superficial level. This is my first book by Amber Skyze and I would definitely read another book by her.

Kari is a woman who will remain with me for a long time to come. She has suffered in the past, and it wouldn’t be so bad if she could keep her scars private—the mental ones—but she also has scars on her skin. These remind her, each time she sees them, of what happened, preventing her from moving on. Of course, mental scars are just as deadly, if not more so than outer scars, but at least we can forget them for a time, shove them away so we can proceed with our lives with some degree of normalcy. And Kari can hide her outer scars, but each time she dresses/undresses, they are there, taunting her.

I couldn’t even begin to imagine how that felt until I read Adrift. Now I have some sense of how upsetting it can be, how traumas affect us in ways we wouldn’t understand unless we had been through what Kari has. She also sees herself as a larger woman, so her self-confidence isn’t very high. Couple that with having liked her co-worker Ben for the longest time, with him seeming not to have noticed, and living alone with just her cat for company, you get the sense of a very lonely individual who is screaming inside for love and affection, a life just like everyone else. Very sad.

But Ben hasn’t been oblivious to Kari and her life, and when their boss insists they go on a work picnic, giving up their weekend to do so, Ben shows just how much he understands Kari. Along with his lover, Adam, he sets out to show Kari that she can love herself and be proud of who she is, proud of her body.

Of course, I fell in love with Ben then, because he gave Kari so much more than she’d ever dreamed of. Yes, she’d wanted him to like her, but to give so much of himself, selflessly, with the sole aim of making her accept herself for who she is, was heart warming and made me want to cry.

Best Bits: 1. The times when Kari is struck with indecision and how Ben or Adam draw her out of it, drawing her out of herself.

2. When Ben revealed about his past and being rejected by his father. He cried, and Kari comforted him, as did Adam. A touching moment.

3. Kari agreeing to give Ben what he wanted—no plot spoilers. What a lovely, lovely woman she is.

Adrift takes you through a gamut of emotions, because I think, like me, you’ll see some of yourself in Kari—the insecurities, the longings, the hope to just be accepted. She’s beautiful inside and out, and I was so glad Ben and Adam taught her to accept that. An emotional read, one I don’t think I’ll ever forget, Adrift really should be on your To Be Read/your Must Read pile.

While the sex finally got interesting at the end, it still felt more like a pseudo "romance" novella with a poly twist than erotica. I was expecting more sex and less talk of happily-ever-after. The story line seemed too contrived and the characters felt emotionally immature. The sexual themes were erotic but the scenes themselves were brief, glazed over, and unimaginative leaving the reader disappointed. All in all, it seemed more like an adolescents wet dream than adult erotica. Reviewed by Myah

Adrift is a well placed title for this story. The female character in this book was definitely adrift. The two male characters were ok but just too goody for my taste. The tale was a little hard for me to swallow. Overall it was ok but didn't stand out for me. If the book been longer and the characters more developed. It could be a great story.Reviewed by Monique

Kari has held a secret crush for her co-worker Ben for three years, never talking to him until their group is told they have a mandatory retreat where they both thinking pulling nails with their teeth would be more fun.

Ben has been waiting for an opportunity to get closer to Kari, now that he and his lover Adam have an opportunity to see if the desire he has held for her can lead to something more.

So I am a sucker for full figure women stories, however this one just doesn't work. You have a hard time warming up to Kari and for neither of them to have ever talked to one another and the next professing undying love was a bit hard to chew.

Nice MMF story about a male bi couple and a BBW, with some steamy sex. This was pretty OK, kind of short and probably would have benefited from more character and story development, but I was actually in the mood for a shorter story so this worked pretty well for me. I didn't love Kari at all, but the editing was good and I'd read more from this author.

Could have used a lot more detail... very shallow story. The relationship was interesting, but happened way too quickly to be believable.
