When Cassie is named executor of her late grandmother’s estate, she has no choice but to return to the coastal hometown she fled at eighteen. She has no interest in facing all the demons that have haunted her for the last decade, but she can’t refuse her beloved grandmother’s last wish. She’ll get in, get everything set, and return to her life.

What Cassie doesn’t anticipate is encountering Eli, the childhood best friend she had to leave behind when she left town, right before they were able to become something more. He now has a young daughter, and, noticing him struggling as a single dad, Cassie offers to babysit for the summer. While their relationship is cold at first, they soon remember why they fell for each other in the first place.

With Eli and his daughter, Cassie finds a happiness she didn’t believe was in the cards for her anymore. But when Cassie comes across the reasons that made her run in the first place, Cassie must decide whether avoiding her fears is worth risking the precious love she’s found.

i love love love ns perkins’ writing & her books but i fear this was just pretty mid for me 🥲

the vibes and the setting are perfect for summer and it’s so so quick, so a perfecttt beach read!! i could’ve read this in one sitting if i didn’t have #responsibilities. but the story and characters themselves were pretty meh for me. i didn’t feel into the book at any point honestly, i wasn’t super invested in the romance or anything happening in the story.

will still continue my slow and steady way through ns perkins’ backlist ofc but this one was a tinyyyy bit of a miss for me :(

pre read:
i've loved every ns perkins book i've read so far so hopefully the trend continues!!! also this cover is so !!!!

I can’t quite explain how much I loved this book — how it pulled me out of a reading slump just to drown me right back into another. I devoured it in one sitting, and the moment I turned the last page, I wanted nothing more than to start it all over again. It was the kind of story that leaves you feeling a little bit full and a little bit hollow. the perfect emotional summer read.

maybe it was the little girl with her big heart, or the gentle, soft-spoken dad who quietly became one of my favorite MMCs. cinnamon roll dads are my kryptonite.

even though I don’t usually gravitate toward second chance romances (the ache is always too sharp) this one felt different. maybe because they both lived in the in-between. they tried to move on. they tried to love other people. they hurt, they healed, and they kept going. and maybe because the FMC didn’t wait around. at nineteen, she left — chose herself, her future, her peace leaving behind her loved ones including her first love. and I loved her all the more for it.

but still — the bond, the tension, the way they saw each other… it never really went away and it showed with how vibrant and candid it was transcribed through the narrative.

the family drama hit deep. the mystery around her abrupt disappearance kept me turning pages. and somehow, the heavy themes wove themselves into something soft, tender, and so incredibly human.

this wasn’t just a summer romance — it was a story that mattered. one I’ll carry for a long while.

many thanks to LoveNotesPR for the eARC & the author for the eARC

Thank you NS Perkins for the arc of Until Summer Ends. I was so excited for this upon seeing her announcement and email for her ARC team since I always love a second chance and single dad, however this just didn't really work for me. Miss Perkins, if you're seeing this, please look away! I love you to pieces but sadly I didn't love this book.

This was a sweet and heartfelt story with a gorgeous setting for summer in beautiful Maine. While I enjoyed parts, I found most of it didn't really connect with me.

This is supposed to be a second chance romance, and there are some flashback chapters, but it is a very very hard trope to nail. Perkins' other second chance romance, The Infinity Between Us, was also a book whose story I was not convinced of. Unfortunately I felt the same between Cassie and Eli. I did not feel their connection, there was zero tension, and their dialogue chafed. I found their interactions to be pretty stinted and awkward, not like how two people who had known/loved each other would interact. I was unconvinced of their love story. Eli was very one dimensional and I just did not care for him at all. He never came alive for me (neither did any of the characters, for that matter) which is a bummer. I thought it was a little too perfectly written that of course, he has a kid, and of course, Cassie has endometriosis and cannot conceive because of it. A match made in heaven! The way they interacted after around the 45% mark just felt like two strangers who had airdropped into each other's lives and not people who grew up together.

Their chemistry was discussed but not shown, and again, I just felt nothing. The spice was an amalgamation of recycled and cliched sentences that you could find in 4/5 books you pluck from a romance shelf at Barnes. There wasn't anything inherently unique about this story. Now I'm not always looking for the top dawg of creativity, but I found all of the characters to be dull and unlikable and therefore, I had nothing to look forward to except for the final page.

Cassie left her hometown pretty much as soon as she could because her father was a terrible drunk, cheater ,and abuser. Everyone in the town would ridicule the McIntyre family, Cassie included, and she felt like she was suffocating living there. So she leaves, leaves her mom, her sister, Eli--the supposed love of her life--and Ruth, who gave her the money to leave in the first place. There were so many "Before I left" and "After I left" and yet the reason for leaving was so bland that it just didn't feel necessary or real. Furthermore, this conflict is addressed and resolved pretty early on, like around 30%, and I just felt like none of the characters cared enough about anything for me to feel like it mattered. There were no stakes to look out for, nor was there any true plotline to follow. Cassie's sister is mean to her upon her arrival, but then that dissolves quickly. Eli doesn't even seem to be apprehensive of Cassie's return despite her leaving for eleven or twelve years. It just seems like Cassie came back and nobody batted an eye. He just lets her babysit for his child while he's keeping his daughter's actual mom away from her? Like that doesn't make sense. She wasn't in contact with Eli for any of those years, either, and I just found it entirely unrealistic and unbelievable. Combine that with the absolute lack of tension and I have two characters who I don't care about in the slightest.

A lot of the book is Cassie packing up Ruth (her grandmother's) house because she died and also because she was on sabbatical from her job, going through her things to keep. Despite Ruth being discussed as a seemingly important character to Cassie, there was no effort to show us their relationship. This is partly due to the fact that Cassie's father, Ruth's son, would keep his kids from her, but apparently they lived in the same town as the grandmother but didn't see her? But also did at the same time? Then Ruth helps Cassie flee after her dad hits her and says "she doesnt know whether she'll see her granddaughter again in this lifetime" like it's truly so dramatic. Phones exist, people can drive... like nobody made the effort in over a decade? I find that extremely hard to believe. Honestly, it felt like a jumbled mess trying to get the story straight, since it seemed Cassie would retract on previous statements and configure new ones as the story went. There were just several variables that seemed unaccounted for. Also Cassie's friend, Emily, felt like a last-ditch effort to show that Cassie could have a friend? Though she existed merely through text messages, and half-hearted half pages worth of a phone call. There was not enough of a dive into Cassie's actual life.

One thing that bothered me was there was a conversation between Cassie and Eli about her ex fiance. This person she was with before her diagnosis, and he decided to leave her after he realized that there would never be kids in the future. In the conversation, he's essentially painted as the villain, and where I see how that might feel, but honestly I don't really blame him? Like if you didn't discuss BEFORE marriage what would happen in the event that you couldn't have kids, then that is YOUR problem. Sure, he should be devoted to you, but also he wanted kids and couldn't even adopt them with you because of your juvenile record. Like it's one thing after another with Cassie. Meanwhile Eli is calling the guy an asshole, and he just wanted kids.... Idk like that seems like an issue that could've been resolved if you actually communicated before getting engaged. And I'm not defending the fiance because he was kinda an asshole but this is something that I just didn't agree with. "He wanted kids more than he wanted me" I mean at least he had the foresight to leave you so he wouldn't drag you along into a loveless marriage? Like he kind of did you a favor.

I'm super disappointed I didn't love this; it wasn't a horrible book, it just didn't stand out in any way to me or have characters whose lives I was invested in.

Good moments:
- Reconnected with her mom
- The scene with her sister during labor
- The crochet club (lowkey the best part of the book were those old ladies)

Cringeworthy moments:
- "All this talk about men being obsessed with asses," he teases, nipping at my lips.
"You have an insane ass. Sue me."
"Ditto"
- "Yes chef" during sexy time
- "Then, I do what I'm the best at. I run."
- "When I learned I couldn't have kids, I felt like someone had taken my only purpose away from me. Being a mother was what I was supposed to do with my life"

3.5/5

small beach town + single dad, is gonna do it every. single. time.

my reading relationship with n.s. perkins has been strange as of late. the first four books i read by her were so spectacular and i pledged myself to her fanbase but the recent releases haven't been my cup of tea. this book had the workings to be my perfect story, a girl who ran away from her hometown returns and falls back in love with the boy she left and he's now a single dad.. love to see it. sadly it just didn't hit all the marks.

it felt like the romantic relationship didn't have many moments. one second they were just friends and she was helping him with childcare and the next second they had feelings for each other again. more tension really would've helped their relationship timeline feel normal. eli and cassie were very basic characters, nothing about them stuck out but i did enjoy them, i'm very in the middle, just like my rating. the book was cutesy but its not a new favorite. oh, and the flashback chapters were so random and written so weirdly, could've done without that.

i do commend this author though because she like just got out of med school and she's been writing romances for awhile. i could never be that good at multitasking. this book needed to focus more on cassie's relationship with ruth or her past with eli or mending the relationship with her sister. none of these plot lines felt full so every moment of development didn't feel as satisfying as it should have. all that being said i'll be sat for her next book!

“until summer ends” could be easily renamed to “clara, this is for you” because hello???? every single detail about this story calls out to me on a crazy level. childhood best friends? check. second chance-ish? check. single dad? check. a cute and funny kid? check. cinnamon roll hero? check. a complex relationship between siblings? check. a romance that leans into women’s fiction territory? check. oh and tears? CHECK, CHECK AND CHECK!

if any of these things are also very special to you, i highly recommend picking eli and cassie’s story, and embark on this very emotional and angsty journey that will leave you wanting more from all of the characters in the end.

the romance itself was stellar. i felt for eli, i felt for cassie, i felt for the past and all that i knew was coming to drive them to be away for so long, and i felt for the present that felt limited since the start. their natural intimacy, that feeling of knowing the other person will always love you for you… ugh, i could cry again thinking about it. eli and cassie’s relationship is what people hope, wish and dream to find a sliver of, one day.

this book, just like all of n.s. perkins’s titles, deals with very serious and somewhat heavy/complex topics. and despite how many people accuse the romance genre of being blindly optimistic and putting rose colored glasses at times, USE ends on a very realistic note. and honestly, that’s one of the things that made it very dear to me. it shows that despite the complicated scenarios people may deal with everyday, there’s still plenty to celebrate and be happy about.

i was quickly attached to cassie, eli, zoe, and keira (and honestly more) and i hope to see them again in the future. especially keira, like with her own book… maybe? 🤭

Until Summer Ends 🌅
Firstly,I want to thank LoveNotes Pr & N.S. Perkins for trusting me with this ARC!✨
Cassie is back in hometown after swearing that she will never ever step a foot here, even her grandma's last wish has there again. Here, she will find her chilhood ,more than, friend who now has a little girl. Will decisions keep her back this time or her demons will win?
This is THE summer book,I will not say it a solid romance because truly,it much more deeper than that, this book is about trust, love, emotions & emotional abuse.
Cassie is for the girls that choose themselves, yet struggle every day with that decision, for those who live every day in their past, with that haunting them always.
Eli,is the classic single dad, hot, young yet his own past seems to worry him too, specifically the parts that C is in,he feels betrayed yet he understands every action that she took, and this time he is determined to make things right again.
As for the book I liked her narration very much, and especially the retroactive narrative accompanied with the third person that she used.Girl I was so hooked in that chapters!!
My only con is the TOO many birth & pregnancy info that she put,I get that it was a huge part of Cassie's life that she could not be a mom,yet sometimes I found them TOO many for my liking!

Out On July,8th ❤️‍🔥

Tropes:
❤️ Childhood Friends to Strangers to Lovers
❤️ Second Chance Romance
❤️ Single Dad
❤️ Forced Proximity
❤️ Found Family
❤️ Coastal Small Town
❤️ Chronic Illness Rep
❤️ The One That Got Away (and Came Back) 😭

Cassie returns to her coastal hometown out of obligation, not nostalgia , but seeing Eli again (her almost-something, now a single dad) shakes everything loose. Their history is complicated, the pain is real, and their path back to each other is anything but smooth. But oh, it’s worth it.

Eli isn’t your typical broody hero, he’s soft where it matters, steady even when hurt, and so clearly still in love with Cassie it hurts. Watching her bond with his daughter Zoe while navigating her own quiet struggles absolutely broke me. The way this book handled chronic illness was raw, real, and so thoughtfully done.

From late-night kitchen talks and lake weekends to laugh-out-loud yard sale chaos (Keira. OMG. 😂), this book blends heartache with humor in the best way. Ruth’s quiet presence through the scrapbook storyline had me tearing up more than once. And the moment Cassie realizes she was never forgotten, that Eli had always been asking about her, always holding on, ahh they were just so cute!

Cassie and Eli’s story is emotional, imperfect, and so deeply earned. If you love second chances, small-town drama, found family, and a romance that hits you right in the feels, Until Summer Ends is one summer story you don’t want to miss.

📌 Note: This story includes themes related to chronic illness. Please check the author’s content warnings if these are sensitive topics for you.

A perfect 5 star read from the queen N.S. Perkins.

This was truly one of my most anticipated reads this year, the moment I found she was writing another book. Anything she writes ends up being one of my favorites.

The endo rep in this book had me literally sobbing through the book, but the way found family was portrayed in this book was so amazing. I loved every single second.

This was definitely on the low emotion for N.S. Perkins, though. Don’t get my sobbing confused 😂 it was just super emotional for me. It was such a good single dad x nanny romance where she’s not reallyyyy a nanny because she refuses to accept money from him through the entire book… which was very comical.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED. second chance will always be my favorite and this one just really knocked it out of the park for me. As always.

If you like
✨ single dad x nanny
✨ small beach town
✨ second chance
✨ found family
✨ neighbors
✨ endometriosis rep
You’ll eat this up

I don't know where to start with this book. I LOVED it 🥺

When I saw it on Love Notes Pr's social media, I knew it would be for me because it contains all the tropes I adore reading.

I came across a beautiful story, where Cassie's issues and her struggle with her past have been handled with so much sensitivity and respect (thank you, thank you, thank you). The evolution she has throughout the story, and how she is rebuilding her life and her relationship with her sister and Eli and above all with herself.... I promise you that more than once it made me cry 🥹

Eli and Zoe are everything that is right in this world, and they both love Cassie so much it hurts. The relationship between the two of them is so beautiful, wholesome and pure that I wouldn't mind reading another two hundred pages just about them.

Five stars is not enough for all that this book deserves, because it has become a summer comfort read and I know I will read it again at some point 🫶

Thank you to LoveNotes Pr and N.S. Perkins for this ARC 🧡

Absolutely LOVED this book! Be aware, there are trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, so be sure to read them.

This story is so emotional and heartfelt. It dives into some heavy topics such as childhood trauma, abuse, and infertility, but it also encompasses enduring love, facing your fears, and second chances. The characters are beautifully written and definitely find their way into your heart! It’s easy to identify with them and feel the same emotions they feel throughout the story. I loved Cassie and Eli, and sweet little Zoe stole my heart from the very beginning.

This is such a beautiful book and wonderful summer read!

A little slower at times, but overall a cute love story! Perkins always does an amazing job as making me feel the sad emotions that goes into her character building.

I was a little annoyed at how Cassie kept running from her father and the abuse there, but overall it all played out how it was suppose to!

4🌟 - I liked it!

A hot new bombshell has entered the villa!!! This indie summer second-chance romance is truly swoon worthy! I devoured this in one sitting on a flight ✈️. Absolutely bingeable for any poolside or beachside reading this year!

It has a single dad, emotional storyline, adorable child, complex storyline, heavy topics regarding infertility, and an idyllic setting!

Loved the connection between Eli and Cassie, and was totally invested in the story from the beginning!

first and foremost i wanna thank n.s.perkins & lovenotes.pr because i received an arc in exchange for an honest review <3

the story follows cassie, who returns to her coastal hometown because she and her sister have been appointed administrators of her late grandmother’s estate. she plans to get in and out without any emotional detours. but then she runs into eli, her childhood best friend and now single dad.

one thing that stood out immediately was the setting, a house at the beach and mostly quiet streets. it all created the perfect backdrop for a story about healing, second chances, and love that lingers.

until summer ends deals with some heavy themes, and perkins handled these topics with care and honesty.

the only thing that held me back from a full 5-star rating was that i didn’t feel an especially deep emotional bond with the characters. while i liked them and appreciated their growth, i remained a little emotionally distant from the romance.

still, until summer ends is a beautiful, atmospheric read. perfect for fans of emotional, slow-burn second-chance romances with a cozy seaside setting.

This book was sooo cute!!! I loved the whole small town summer vibes (perfect read for the beach or a road trip)
While I loved our two main characters, Eli and Cassie, I wish we got to know more about them when they were growing up cause I felt disconnected from them individually. I did love the small glimpses of Eli’s POV from when they were younger. It was so cute to read his feelings towards Cassie. Overall, the book is just a cute, fun summer read.

My first summer read of the season so obviously it was a hit for me. Gave me all the fun summer vibes including:

* Second chance
* Single dad x nanny!!!
* Small costal town
* Childhood friends to strangers to lovers

After 11 years, Cassie returns to her hometown in Maine to settle her grandmother’s estate. She quickly has to face her haunted past including Eli, the love of her childhood life who is now a single dad to a daughter.

Their story felt nostalgic, cozy, and endearing. Something about reunited childhood friends who still have that natural pull towards each other… it’s all so sweet. There is also nothing like reading at 11:30pm, past your bedtime, when the MMC says “fuck it” which causes you to stay up to finish the entire story!

Not my first N.S Perkins book but this is the first I’ve read in a while. Her being a resident physician, using the correct medical terminology is my fav and is something I appreciate as a nurse!

Thank you N.S Perkins & Love Notes PR for the ARC :)

"I'll be fine," the girl says as she stands, handing him the heating pad back. "I'm keeping the gummy worms, though." "They're yours." Everything he owns, he thinks, is hers. His heart most of all.”

Soft, nostalgic, and quietly emotional. A second chance romance that feels like summer and healing all at once. I’ll read anything N.S. Perkins writes. She’s magic, truly.

"Cass," he says, the nickname sounding like a rolling wave coming from his lips. "I can't think of a single day when I won't want you here."

✨THINGS AND STUFF ✨

Broke me but also put me back together.

A second chance romance with childhood trauma, infertility, and young love that never had its chance.

Some moments were deeply triggering but N.S. Perkins wrote them with such honesty and care that I felt seen, heard, and understood. The emotional depth is what makes this story truly special. It’s not just a love story, it’s a story of healing. Raw and real.

You can always leave home.
You can always go back home.

Cassie returns to her grandmother's house after her death only to come face to face with everything she left when she was 18 including the one that got away and boy next door Eli.

This was a perfect summer read! Here's what I loved:

Cassie: She has such a journey in this. You completely understand why she left home and know why she doesn't want to stay but you still are pulling for her to. I loved seeing her relationships with her family and friends. There is a lot of mending that needed to be done and that is woven into the story really well.

Eli: Single dad tropes are some of my favorite. Eli is such a great dad and his daughter was the cutest. I loved seeing him open back up to Cassie after being so hurt. He's such a good character.

The Summer Feel: This one takes place on a lake and during the summer. Both together make a perfect summer read! This one has all of the vibes of Perkins's other book The Infinity Between Us which I also loved.

All in all, this was a great summer romance.

Thank you to the author for the gifted copy!

Thank you to Love Notes PR for the ARC!

What to expect:
🤭 Single Dad
💞 Second Chance
❤️‍🔥 Friends to Strangers to Lovers
😇 Nanny

There are a few trigger warnings, so please make sure to check those before diving in.

When I first started reading, I thought it might be just another friends to strangers to lovers story... seemingly similar to some others I’ve read with the same trope, but I was so wrong.

I wasn’t prepared for the wave of emotion that came with Eli and Cassie’s story. Their connection was raw and beautifully written. I laughed. I teared up. It was a heartfelt emotional rollercoaster that completely pulled me in.

This was my first time reading a N.S. Perkins novel, but it definitely will not be my last.

This was my last read of June and it literally saved my whole month! My reading month had been filled with okay reads but it was starting to become just meh until I decided to start this one, and gah, I’m so happy I did!! Cause I really needed a FIVE STAR read!

And N. S. Perkins never ever ever disappoints on giving her readers a beautiful and emotional love story! These two were angsty and emotional perfection.

Perkins had me crying before I hit the 30% mark. The way she described what her heroine was feeling and her heartbreak had me so emotional. Cassie was dealing with so much loss, and then being confronted with her past and having to also deal with all that too. It was honestly so heartbreaking. She was so strong, though. I was rooting for her the whole way.

Eli also had my heart. He was an incredible friend, an amazing father to the cutest kid, Zoe, and just an overall amazing human being. The chapters we got of these two in the past were so emotional, it made what was happening in present time even more emotional for me.

The love these two shared was really so darn beautiful. Being willing to let the person you love go because it’s what’s best for them. Going away and never looking back because staying in contact would only hurt them more. The way these two always had the other’s best interests in mind. Gosh. I’m all in my feels all over again.

The longing, the friendship, the connection, the sacrifices, the caretaking, the deep love, the angst. Ugh. I hadn’t read a book like this in a while. I missed the emotional rollercoaster. The way a book hurts but becomes one of my favorite books. Thank you, Noémie, for writing these two’s story. They might just be my new favorite. Watching them fall in love all over again, watching Cassie make up with her family, watching her fall in love with Zoe, it was all so special.
