Rate this book
When souls choose to ascend or descend, their memories are erased, but Vexia remembers everything.
Born in Purgatory and marked by a word she didn't choose, Vexia was never meant to be the perfect angel. Yet white wings bloom - and with them, silence, suspicion, and a power she doesn't understand.

The realms are fracturing.
Storms rise. Prophecies stir.

And when a forbidden connection forms between her and a demon Royal feared across Hell, the Balance begins to break.

He is everything she was told to avoid.
She is everything he was told to destroy.

Together, they'll challenge Gods, shatter balance and risk becoming the very calamity that ends it all.

Calamity by A.K. is a breathtaking dive into a world between life and divinity. With poetic language and haunting imagery, it explores choice, memory, identity, and the cost of becoming something more. Vexia’s journey from the gray stillness of Purgatory to the light-drenched heights of Heaven is both visceral and deeply emotional. Her refusal to forget—when all others do—marks her as something extraordinary, and dangerous.

Beautifully written. Emotionally raw. Mythical and modern at once.

5/5 – For fans of poetic fantasy, introspective protagonists, and divine worldbuilding.

I dove head first into this beautiful story of finding your true self, coming into the you that you were meant to be and finding a love that is against everything that you were lead to believe. Vexia’s story coming from “ The Gray” into Heaven and realizing that things aren’t as they should be, did she make the wrong choice? Does she really belong here? I’m so glad that she started to question these things and really leaning in to figure out what and who she is. Then enters Zareth and her world literally turns upside down. This man 🥵

“I look at you, and it’s like hearing a song I know I’ve bled to before. Something beautiful that’s only ever played at the edge of ruin.” He exhaled once, slow. Sharp. “If I say it out loud, it becomes real. And if it becomes real, I don’t think I could ever walk away again. Not even to save us both.”

The odds may be against them but I think and hope that love will win in the end. I cannot wait for the next book because that cliff hanger took me out! Calamity was written so beautifully and roped me in like I was right there with these characters. I am in love!

Honestly, this book was so, so good. I loved it so much. 😭From the very first page, l was pulled straight into this world of angels and demons. It’s written in a way that makes everything so easy to follow and visualize. The events are slow-paced, but in the best way. I could really connect with the world and the characters. And since this is only Book 1 of 5, that slower build-up made perfect sense.

And Zareth… omg. If beautiful words are your love language, he’s absolutely a top-tier book boyfriend. I cried over his love declarations and how deeply he loves Vexia. His emotions felt so real and every scene with him hit me right in the heart. 🥺

And the ending?? I don’t even want to talk about it.. just know that I screamed and that it is still haunting me.

AK, you are so, so talented. I can’t wait to read your next book and dive even deeper into this world and the characters.

I rated this book 4,5 (up to 5) ⭐️

I had the pleasure of being an Arc reader for Calamity and I loved it!!

The authors detailed world building and descriptions of characters are truly incredible. Really brings what you imagine to life!

This book contains Angels, Demons and Gods with plot twists that will make your jaw drop and leave you emotionally damaged! Get your tissues ready!

Vexia and Zareth are our main characters who give off the trope of enemies to lovers with lots of spice!! Their forbidden love is beautifully destroying.

100% recommend and cannot wait for the rest of the series!!

There’s something haunting about Calamity. It’s a story about memory, power, and the terrifying beauty of falling for someone you’re not supposed to.
I felt so seen by Vexia, and so wrecked by Zareth. The writing is lyrical without being overdone, and the plot slowly builds into something devastatingly powerful.
I wasn’t ready for the emotional damage this book dealt. But I’m so glad I read it.

Spicy wings? ✔
Enemies-to-something-more?? ✔✔
A morally gray demon prince with a whisper tattoo and god-tier tension??? OH BABY, YES.
Calamity gave me everything—a fierce heroine, a dangerously sexy love interest, and a slow-burn romance that MELTED MY BONES.
If you’re not reading this book, you’re missing out on your next favorite obsession.

Thank you A.K. for this ARC of Calamity!!

This was a difficult read just because of the format of the e-read and .pdf did not save my spot… the problems of us readers 🤣🤣

However, I normally am not a “fantasy” girly… A.K. did a phenomenal job in drawing you into a magical world of angels and demons and the imagery of her descriptive writing was amazing.

The character building, the slow burn, to passion, to emotionally exhausted… chefs kiss!!

Looking forward to the next book

Arc reader here and this book had me in tears by the very end. Calamity by A.K. Was in my opinion a hauntingly beautiful descent into being confined by the world in which they don’t fit the mold, passion, and the kind of love so hard tale that leaves bruises—both on the heart and the soul. This novel grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go, pulling you into a world where survival means sacrifice, and love is anything but simple. Learning to grow and change but also learning that the world can be a cruel and unfair place. A.K.’s writing is raw and lyrical, full of emotional depth and brutal honesty. The characters are far from perfect—wounded, volatile, and deeply human. The heroine’s journey is both painful and empowering, and the male lead? Dark, dangerous, magnetic—and absolutely unforgettable. This book was truly amazing and gripping. It closely related to my own life experiences in which I have felt myself confined to the rules of this world. I would rate this book five stars and what sets Calamity apart is how it dares to explore the unspoken: trauma, trust, and the fine line between ruin and redemption. It’s not a light read, but it’s a necessary one. You’ll feel every page—sometimes with your heart pounding, sometimes with tears in your eyes. A dark daring masterpiece well constructed and composed.

With angels and demons separated and the realms fracturing can their forbidden connection bring about a calamity that ends it all?!

This book had me in a “choke” hold from the author’s letter

“ to those who hold both darkness and light inside of them: welcome home”

The relationship between Vexia fmc and Zareth mmc is a beautiful slow burn that leaves you wanting more in the best way. The things that demon says “swoon”

“She’s my mirror, The only thing that makes sense in a world where nothing ever has”

This book is stunning with clear lyrical writing that throws you fully into the world.

A story about Power, forbidden love and Memories.

Fully recommend!

Now when is book 2 out?

A.K, this was amazing. It's my favorite read for 2025 so far.
I need book 2 like yesterday 😩..

Angels and Demons, forbidden love, Gods, and Royals. A badass Angel FMC, and he falls first and hard demon MMC.

The banter, flirting, and the slow burn was 🔥 🥵. The spice was soft and sensual and so stunningly written.

This book is so different from any other romanatsy I have read so far and I loved it.

Obsessed

I haven’t read many angel-and-demon stories, but wow, this one blew me away! From the very first page, I was hooked—and by the end, my jaw was on the floor. When I first saw this book, I just knew I had to read it. The celestial vibes were immaculate—the contrast between the light of an angel and the darkness of a demon was everything I didn’t know I needed.

We follow Vexia, who ascends from Purgatory into Heaven. She’s supposed to have her memories wiped clean like everyone else... but things don’t go as planned. She’s welcomed by a tight-knit crew and quickly finds a sense of belonging with her new-found family. But just as she’s settling in, the fragile balance between Heaven and Hell begins to fracture—and that’s when he enters the picture.

Enter Zareth, a hot, foul-mouthed demon who Vexia crosses paths with while searching for answers. The mouth on this man had me swooning, and let me tell you, he is officially on my book boyfriend roster. The tension between him and Vexia? Absolutely scorching. Their chemistry practically jumped off the page.

This book had it all—twists, secrets, tension, spice, and a fresh take on the fantasy genre. I couldn’t put it down. If you’re looking for something unique with celestial stakes, unforgettable characters, and a romance that burns bright and dark, add this to your TBR immediately. You won’t regret it!

Thank you to A.K. for an advance copy!

I was lucky enough to be an early reader for this beautiful piece of work.
As someone who was severely burnt out on romantasy and some of the tropes involved, Calamity was a breath of fresh air.
The way memory, belief and the views we have on heaven and Hell are contradicted and interwoven together is quite magical.
Once the story picks up, it had me on the edge of my seat, giggling and kicking at some of Zareth’s lines.
I cannot wait for the paperback to be released, to proudly display this on my shelf. It’s definitely something I will be re-reading.

Where to start with Calamity. I had never really stepped across in to the angels and demons genres but I am so glad I did. From the very start you are pulled in with beautiful poetic declarations that really do hit personally at times. The clear world building and introduction of characters was brilliantly done and gave a good explanation of what everything meant but still getting to the point. The bad boy lover from enemy we didn’t know we needed. And how it ends leaves you reeling for the next book. Amazing !

Vexia was born in Purgatory, marked by fate, and cursed with memories no soul should keep. When white wings appear, she’s pulled into a realm of prophecy, power, and suspicion. But everything changes when she forms a forbidden bond with a feared demon prince. As their connection grows, the balance between Heaven, Hell, and everything in between begins to unravel and they may become the very force that ends it all.

WOW! What a book! I received this book as an Arc Copy. The description, the world building is amazing! It started off quite slow and was very descriptive of the world it is set in, it then slowly creeps into more of romance side and my GOD (pardon the pun, you'll understand when you read) does it get good. Starting off with a POV from the fmc but then later get POV from the mmc and its incredible to see both of their sides! The ending had me shouting and gobsmacked!! Cliffhanger 😪 Honestly, one of the best romantasy books I have read this year!!
