Ava Starr is the star WNBA player for the Cade’s Cove Vipers. As the daughter of the Hall of Fame legend Axel Starr, she has big shoes to fill. All she has ever known was the art of basketball, which left little room for anything else, including a dating life.
Marcus Hastings was once the scrawny nerd who only cared about anime and playing the game. Now, as a professional esports gamer, he has to find a healthy balance to a usually sedentary lifestyle. Between gym visits and taking part in tournaments, Marcus usually stays to himself and out of the way.
The two unsuspecting souls find themselves unable to fight temptation on multiple occasions. Feelings arise, emotions heighten, and souls dance in this sports love story.

This was a fast paced romance with Marcus and Ava how he went from being her “savior” against a disrespectful dude to being with her. It was nice how her teammate was supportive of their relationship even though he was her brother. I also thought it was nice how her father listened and respected what he had to say about their relationship. There was a bit too much talking leading up to their intimate scenes for me like less talking just get to the action but it didn’t overtake the overall growing affection they had for each other. I thought them and their planned celebratory dates were cute and it was nice to see them supporting each other in their respective games/achievements as well.
Book three of the BLP Sports Series was simply amazing!! Mya gave me everything I wanted in this love story and so much more. It was truly amazing and refreshing to read a love story that both characters truly loved and respected each other.
Ava and Marcus were definitely made for each other. They loved each other unconditionally and were each other’s biggest supporter and fan. She allowed him to be the man in the relationship and he allowed her to truly live in her soft girl era. They were each other’s peace.
I definitely recommend this to everyone that loves sports romance or romance in general, you will definitely enjoy this novel.
This book seemed forced. The relationship seemed forced. It was like the author took every single saying, cliche, hip words ect. and put them all in this book. It just didn't mesh to me. The story line wasn't bad it was just very rushed in my opinion.
WNBA isn't anything to play with. It never has been and thankfully it is still the dream for women who Ball... Mya told this story easily with emphasis. Ava and the girls were amazing. Marcus supported his woman all day... The external and Internal stories did not fight for extra attention. It's a good read...
I loved the chemistry between Ava and Marcus. I loved how he allowed her to be in her soft girl era, and she allowed him to be the man in the relationship. I also loved how they showed up for each other. They were what each other needed. I would recommend this book.
This was a cute lil non-insta-love story. Baby, we love a protector, okay! Even though the MCs already knew each other in some capacity, it was nice to see them get closer on page. I ain’t gon’ lie though. I was ready to see Cinnamon’s cousin get his ass handed to him though.
I need more. I love how Marcus was nerdy but assertive with his BDE. Ava got to be soft which she wasn’t used too because she’s tall. I need Najah love story next
This book was soooooo good!! I wish I could give it 100 ⭐️ because Bae Bae when I tell you how this author weaved together one of the most sexy, funny, naughty, and the most entertaining reads of 2025. If I'm lying, I'm dying. Right from the beginning, when Marcus comes to Ava's aid against some out of pocket rapper sparks, he starts going off like firecrackers during a 4th of July picnic. And that was just the beginning.
The chemistry they had was fire. But that was only part of what made Ava and Marcus's story such a great read. It was, in fact, the friendship and respect that they had for each other and their chosen career paths that sold me 100% about this book. I loved the fact that Marcus was a sexy nerd who was a die-hard gamer. (Gamers deserve love, too.) I also loved that he supported Ava in every step of the way. He was her cheerleader and her coach. not only said what he said with his whole chest, He showed up and walked the walk. And the same goes for Ava. She is the type of woman you want in your group cause you know she keeps it 💯 and will have your back no matter what. This book had me being a cheerleader and a protective auntie all at the time. Especially when it came to Ava's father. Iyktyk.
The best thing about this book is that it was a great read from start to finish. I loved every second I spent being in Ava and Marcus's world. Do you want to see unconditional love in print? Read this book. It has that and so much more. I highly recommend it. Author Mya is doing the dang thing in 2025. I can't wait for her next book!
MMC is a professional gamer FMC is a professional basketball player Teammate’s brother Spicy scenes but not overwhelming the story.
This book was such a vibe. Quick read with a strong FMC and an equally strong MMC. Quick start to the story but it is written in such a way that we understand the implied yearning from both sides. Loved how they both showed up for each other for support and encouragement. Thoroughly enjoyed and looking forward to reading more from this author!
Hoping for a cute novella in the future but the story is complete and perfect on its own
You've got a guy who's a professional gamer and a girl who's a top WNBA player; they meet, fall for each other, and we get to experience their beautiful story together.
Don’t get me wrong—I love a good hood jam (my TikTok girlies know the vibes 😝), but sometimes you just need a feel-good romance, and that’s where Mya shines in His Starr Player. It hit me with all the feels, and I totally loved this book. I definitely recommend it for all my die-hard romance readers.
P.S. If you're looking for another great book by Mya, my personal favorite is Mistakes of the Heart.
Marcus and Ava's story was so adorable. Their relationship started after Marcus intervened in a situation where someone was disrespecting Ava. There was no drama between them just love and passion. I loved how Marcus loved up on Ava and allowed her to be her soft and feminine self. Their support for one another's chosen professions by showing up at each other's games, when time permitted, was something else that I loved about them. Marcus was Ava's peace, and he always showed up when she needed him. This was another great Mya book that I highly recommend.
The couple is oddly mechanical when interacting and it’s off putting for me. I also found it hilarious that Marcus is like ppl are gonna think all we do is fuck when they have done literally just that. The connection for me was just meh…check out the highlights I guess. And condoms don’t just prevent pregnancy I wish authors don’t writing not using projection like oh it’s just a baby I’m on birth control we’re good… nooo
🥴WITAH‼️….Yuck‼️”His Starr Player: BLP Sports Series - Book 3 of 10” (3.0 ⭐️’s 🎁) was written for a significantly younger audience. I barely completed chapter one without being offended by the banter & dialogue and prepared to abandon project B3 of the BLP Sports Series 🤷🏾♀️🥴‼️Nevertheless, no pretense this book was awful and Ava & Marcus’ light, camera action Gen Zer’s storyline (& if S&M among strangers qualifies 🥴) just wasn’t the read for me🙂↔️‼️
Marcus brought out the soft girl in Ava & I LOVE that for our girl!! He brought her nothing but peace, acceptance in all things her & support in her career/ legacy!! That man knew he wanted her from that first night in the club & he wasn’t letting up off of her. The way Ava supported Marcus with his egames career also made me smile, because the sport may look different, but she was still right there cheering her man on. I love it all!!
The author warned us that this book was unrealistic and she didn't lie. This is going to sound odd but Ava and Marcus just spoke wayyyy too much. I love open communication but my God, can't ya'll f**k without excessive dialogue. It would appear that they can't. Also Ava legitimately announced on social media that she wasn't playing the 1st game of the season because she didn't have a necklace her grandmother gave her...minutes before the game. I would hate her as a teammate.
This was a palate cleanser love story that I didn’t know I needed. I smiled the entire time! I loved how their story and relationship developed, and how supportive they were of each other. I also really loved the fact that the FMC was the athlete on the court. While Marcus is an athlete too, this bit of role reversal worked well for this story. I will definitely read more by this author.
Another banger from Mya!! I loved their fast paced loved. It was also cool to be introduced to the world of esports. While fast paced, Mya has a way of still providing character development and depth that keep you entertained and falling for the characters. Bravo!
Great read. If you enjoy reading a love story, that's positive and have grown folks being just that grown, then this is your sports book! Ava & Marcus were perfect for each other. The family dynamics was positive as well. I would love to see more of Mar us and Ava, I know they have more to say.
Marcus defending Ava turned into a lifetime of happiness for the two. Once they hooked up that first night, nothing could keep them apart. They become inseparable, as well as each other's peace. The support they gave one another was beautiful. Marcus didn't allow her father to run him off. Their careers and happiness was always first. Excellent job!
Mya is a new author to me, so I was not sure what to expect, but I loved this so much. I really enjoyed the professions of each character - I think this may be my first professional gamer, and I read a lot of books. Their story was sweet and honest and relaxing to read. Marcus and Ava worked well together.
This was such a cute read!! I loved it!! I loved how Marcus stood up for Ava and how that lead to them being each other’s safe space. She allowed him to be the man and he allowed her to be in her soft girl era even though she played basketball lol The love and respect they had for each other was simply amazing! 🤩
I love how you depicted that in a relationship it is important to be there for each other no matter what their passion is. So many times, women show up for men, but hardly is it reciprocated. It was a nice reminder that being each others ride or die is essential to the success for both the individual dreams and the relationship.
This is probably the cutest sports romance I think I have read!! Starr and Marcus were so perfect!! Their love showed from the very beginning and I was here for it all! A baller and a gamer!! Mya you made me want to find myself a gamer who loves anime lol would highly recommend!!
This was a short but cute and spicy novella full of green flags and support from both sides of this relationship.I loved that they both had unconventional jobs, her a pro athlete and him a pro gamer. No drugs and no drama or angst. I smiled from the beginning to "The End" of Ava and Marcus' story.
I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. Marcus and Ava were so cute together. This book had very minimal drama and all the love and cuteness for this couple. They kept me smiling with their easy chemistry and organic interactions.
This story was missing something. The chemistry (if we are going to call it that) seemed awkward throughout the story. It was almost robotic. This was a big difference from the previous 2 installments.
I'm not a sports girly when there is to much emphasis on the sports and this was very heavy with the sports aspect, but i still though this was def very cute, and the spicy def hit... there was no obstacles so the couple navigated the start of their relationship with ease.
