This shorter story starts out fine, but by the middle it's pretty obvious there was no professional editor involved, given the annoying repetition of "felt something crack open in his chest." There's also an enormous plot error that allows them to get back at the people who tried to kill them. Like, an impossible thing. And, the difficulty of disappearing from a government agency is entirely glossed over.
It's free. It didn't get the attention it needed. I can't recommend anyone bother with it. These guys aren't difficult to understand without it.
