I think Morrigan is a very well made character. she has a lot of room to grow and improve, and we did get some in this first book. I love the concept and the theme.
And I wait eagerly for the time when MC has like decade experience under her belt for I personally don't really care for teenage angst, particularly when MC ticks many teenage behavior patterns.(absent parents, early independence, need to fit in but no close relationship, does against what is advised repeatedly and very defensive ECT.)
We have nice lore going on and interesting magic and I wait in interest how it is expanded in the future. Speaking of the future, since RR told the story is supposed to go over from centuries to millennia of reaping, this fantasy will then expand to scify. I wait for how the story will describe our civilization's next millennia and how the technology will affect magic and reaping.
so.. hurry up and publish more and don't stretch the apprentice arc too long

A definite page turner.
Something I couldn't put down. Magic is real and so are Reapers. This is a story about a girl who has been recruited by Death himself. Her Reaper requirement is just to let him and his demonic Cat teach her the ropes. Problem is, she isn't sure that's what she wants. But the alternative is Limbo. And that's something she knows she doesn't want. She misses her old life, so she reconnected with her oldest friend. This friend knows all about her new life and still accepts her, which is what she thought she wanted. Not to sure, she ruins away and causes havoc with a demon possession. Even after all that's happened, Death still wants her as his apprentice. Question is, does she still want it for herself?
It's a story you don't want to end. Read and enjoy!

The story is of a girl who dies young and becomes a reaper. Her conflicting emptiness about her new role are well-written.
This has an excellent combination of serious emotion, characters with depth and mysterious, a good amount of humor and other light moments which keep it balanced, and just... I loved it.
I recommend it to people who like magic, modern (but fantasy) witchcraft, and characters with realistic emotional conflict.

okay get a job as a reaper. okay I died, I really didn't have a choice. but it came to being that or be stuck in the limbo. training is hard that's something else happened on the day I die. something's out there, something dark.
