Amos Carver #9

Dead But Not Forgotten

Rate this book
When Carver finds out Liana Cardoso is missing, presumed dead, he'll stop at nothing to find out what happened to her, and he'll avenge her by any means necessary.

Carver and Liana started out on opposite sides. She was NSA, he was trying to stop an assassin from hunting down Paola and killing her. After Carver saved Liana from Enigma, they laid low in the mountains of western North Carolina for a while and then the NSA welcomed Liana back in from the cold.

But someone in the upper echelons of power sold a list of undercover agents to an information broker. The organization Liana had infiltrated on her first mission back to the NSA presumably saw her name on the list.
And now she's probably dead.

Carver goes to Washington DC, his least favorite place in the country because it's filled with some of the worst vermin in the world—politicians. He's going to find out who sold the list, who bought the list, and he's going to kill anyone who had anything to do with Liana's fate.

She might be dead. But she'll never be forgotten.

If you're looking for an action-packed series with well-developed characters, John Corwin's books are sure to impress. This particular installment raises the intriguing question: is Carver a tough guy or a big fluffy bunny? The answer, of course, depends entirely on whether you're on his good or bad side.
Carver's loyalty to his friends and his relentless pursuit of justice make him a deeply compelling protagonist. Despite his rugged exterior and fierce determination, his true desire is to kick back with a cold beer on the beach—a dream that feels almost within reach, were it not for the chaos constantly swirling around him.
The pacing of the story is superb, keeping you hooked from start to finish, and the action scenes are nothing short of riveting. For me, this has been the standout book in the series so far. Highly recommended for fans of adventure, character-driven narratives, and a touch of humor. Five stars!

It sounds trite, but this series really does get better with every book. Here, Carver is trying to find out what happened to his friend, Liana, an NSA agent who has disappeared. The story is terrific, the pacing is superb, and the constant underlying tension made me want to do nothing but read the book to find out what was going to happen next. What really gets me is how realistic the criminal activity sounds. I've spent quite a bit of time wondering if this stuff is really going on in our government. I guess this is what a book hangover is as I can't get it out of my mind! If you like tense, well-paced action, a really imaginative story that seems eerily possible, even though this is supposed to be fiction, with interesting tech and tools (a snap gun, how cool!), and well written characters - don't wait! Grab this story and dive in, I highly recommend it and the entire series, which is best read in order.

Carver's at his favorite place-the beach when he feels he's being watched. Turns out he's right, an NSA operative was here to let him know his friend and NSA agent Liana is missing & presumed dead.

She helped Carver save Paola and was welcomed back to the NSA, however in her first undercover op, someone has outed a long list of government agents for money. The NSA is not actively searching as there is a lot of turmoil due to a change in administration and no one wants to rock the boat.

It's up to Carver to find out what happened and avenge his friend. Carver is not really sentimental but he does have a loyalty streak- no one messes with his friends. The trail leads from DC back to Chicago and to the traitor of his friend.

A fast read and about a 3.5 for me.

Good, not great

It's been a while since I read the previous book in the series so it took me a while to get back into the flow. Overall this book is a good read, well written, with a diverse cast of characters. It was slow in parts and (spoiler alert) the confrontation between Carved and the lead antagonist that was built up throughout the book didn't materialize. I enjoyed the book overall and the ending was unexpected.

Great book

This was another great book in a series that keeps you going.
Plenty of action with enough details to make things plausible, even when it seems crazy, if you haven't read any, you really should. I can't wait for the next one.

Better and better

This was another fantastic story and I think we can all agree. Carved is a straight up bada$$. He hits hard and you better not get on his radar. If you do bad news for you. Can't wait for more installments of this series.

He'd been through a lot tonight. He'd saved three lives, taken four lives, and asked a lot of questions. And now he was maybe a little bit closer to finding out who was behind blowing Liana's cover.

Whatever it was didn't matter right now. Carver was sticking to the mission—finding the people who killed Liana and holding them accountable.

Probably the story yet. Carver is a better human being and I found the book to so much better I read in one sitting.
