Dr Anarchy has succeeded! He's won! He took over the world! Well... one small corner of it at least. Now that he is God-Emperor of Rhode Island, he intends to show the world he's a lot more than an ordinary supervillain. As a head of state/celebrity/genius, he intends to make Rhode Island the greatest and most successful empire the world has ever seen. What could possibly go wrong?

felt much more like a anthology rather than a whole book
The writing was good and the characters were just as fun as the first one but it felt a lot more like things the author thought up rather than a whole story: there was an ending but it felt kinda mid.
Would read as it so short but I don’t think it is needed reading.
I wish the ending would have been more descriptive or had a prologue, great book and I really enjoyed it. I will update this to give stars if another book comes out.
This super-hero parody is mostly funny Parody / not too dark comedy / anti-hero / super heroes 10 years to the day that book 1 was published, we get the sequel, and it's pretty good (whoops. this was published last year. I started reading it on May 17, not knowing it was the 10 year anniversary. what a weird coincidence) A perfect twin to book 1 in theme and tone. Except... in book one Doc is doing the typical super villain stuff. In this one he's won and in charge of his own little empire. This satirical story pokes fun at Hollywood, the internet, politics, and superhero tropes. If you liked book 1 you shouldn't be disappointed. I liked that Nelson Chereta stuck to a good story more than a good comedy. He doesn't let jokes drive the plot just to be funny. But there are moments we are reminded that Dr. Anarchy is a villain who does bad things that aren't funny.
For a sequel to a book that had a pretty tight ending, and that really didn't need a sequel, this turned out halfway decent. Certainly not quite as good as the first book, but still really damn fun overall.
Like the first book, this really plays up the comic book references, and from what I know even pokes a little fun at character tropes and stories from classic characters, especially Batman. The portrayal of the parody of The Joker was a pretty good stand-in for the animated cartoon version I grew up with, for instance, and I love how Alfred Pennyworth became Andrew Poundsworth.
We do spend a little less time with Dr. Anarchy and Raven initially, as there is a fair bit of world building that has to go on for this particular story, but once things get going it all just flows into a hilarious mess of a story. It was all great fun though. It says a lot for a series that I found on accident through free titles on Audible.
Oh, speaking of that. There's no entry for the audiobook here, but that is how I read this. The performance was just as good again as it was for the first book. Well recommended if you like comic book style stories with a bit of humor.
Book 2 in a series with a villain protagonist, this book is really mostly an evil Batman story. The scenes with the protagonist, Dr Anarchy, are just disjointed scenes. In one scene he's trying to buy an NFL team, then he's having breakfast with his mother, then he's talking to Saddam Hussein. It's all just random things happening.
The only real story is about the Batman like character cracking under pressure and becoming Extreme with a capital Ex. To quote the Killing Joke, "I've heard it before and it wasn't funny the first time."
I found the protagonist unlikable. Being played for laughs didn't endear him to me at all. I also found the book to be much shorter than I was expecting, a few hours to read the whole thing at most.
This book wasn't for me. If you're looking for a good superhero or supervillain story, there's better ones out there.
Really entertaining book, though don't bother if you didn't like the first. This is really more of the same. Like the first, it's got an overall story but from chapter to chapter, it's more of a series of short vignettes. To me, that's fine because it is very entertaining but something to be aware of.
There's not a lot of world building or character development going on here. I think the only character with any development is actually Dark Detective. That being said, my only real criticism is the ending. I understand that the author wanted to get to a point, but how they did that just didn't add up. Characters made decisions based on what the author needed, rather than what made sense based on previously established motivations, so I was just left with a bad taste in my mouth.
That being said, I really enjoyed this and the first book and look forward to future releases.
Never thought we’d see another book in this series again, but it was nice to spend time with the characters and gave me an excuse to reread the first book as a reminder.
It wasn’t perfect, I will say raven felt a little subdued in this one and felt like she was mainly there just to question anarchy’s idea, not that she didn’t always do that, they just didn’t quite feel like a team or even a couple this time around.
I have mixed views on the ending. On 1 hand it felt a little disappointing but on the other it really was the only way things could go, and I’m hoping it will give the author a reason to come back to this world again in the future.
When I found out that Dr Anarchy was getting a sexual, I preordered the book. Granted I only found out the day before it released but I still preordered.
Money well spent. The format is different from the original, no longer being from Dr. Anarchy’s point of view, but the different perspective work well and help flesh out the world.
It is rare for a second volume to exceed the first, but this one manages it. The characters are engaging, the plot moves swiftly, the implicit world building is inspiring, the interactions are great and much of the dialogue lives up to the standard. The format is changed, but it works very well for this tale. The rules and examples were fun but couldn't tell this narrative. A strong recommendation.
Man this has been a long awaited book 2 but I still have to say it was not long enough, the switching of POV was great and really spread the story to great side characters but it was still not long enough, ether way tho it was great to continue following the Doc and his shenanigans 👍
I really enjoyed reading this book and hope he continues the series. Dr anarchy is just fun to read. I would say the small sniper stories are my favorite part of the books.
Not nearly as funny as the first one with rather predictable story beats. I am disappointed I was really hoping to love it as much as I did the first one.
