Charismatic, charming and powerful the Wallace brothers, Axton and Jace were always going to achieve great things, and when they developed The Oxford Hotel, it seemed they had everything they wanted. Including, thanks to Vixens, an Exclusive Private Adult Club, utilising their establishment, a boundless amount of attention from women. Whilst Jace indulged Axton never crossed his self-imposed restrictions and refused to participate, instead ensured that members complied with one very specific rule. If a woman says no, it’s no. If that line was crossed Axton and Jace ensured they never had the opportunity to repeat it. Until one evening he saw her, sitting in the hotel grounds watching the slowly setting sun. Drawn to her with an uncontrollable pull he found himself in her company, and in this moment his world changed. His reason for everything was her, but will she let him in or keep him at arm’s length like she has everyone else.
Alana is a Royal Air Force Veteran of sixteen years whose time came to a sudden end with a Medical Discharge in 2021. Passionate about her time in the military she was unsure what path to venture down next.
Whilst she took a mainstream position, her love with reading was reignited whilst her husband was deployed. Diving into the realm of forbidden dark romance she found her imagination would run wild with where each plot was heading. With ideas and scenarios bursting in her mind she decided to write her own to make them come alive.
As she wrote her first novel, The Sicuro she found her fire once again. Enjoying character development, scenario plotting and pushing the boundaries of the ‘norm’.
Okay, so the main character having my name? IMMEDIATE bonus points haha
Ruin Me is a dark romance that dives deep into many layers of plot and explores trauma, PTSD, and anxiety in a way that feels raw and authentic. Ashleigh is a beautifully complex heroine, and her growth through the story is something I really connected with. Axton? Oh my my. Unhinged, obsessive, morally gray and I loved every second of it. Their relationship is intense but layered with so much care and vulnerability, and I can’t wait to see how it develops as the series continues.
I was also so incredibly curious about the side characters as they added depth to the plot as it unfolded too!
If you like your dark romances with high stakes, emotional depth, and a love interest who would burn the world down for you, this one’s for you!
Thanks so much to Alana for allowing me to Beta Read this! 💖🫶✨
This fast paced, deeply emotional dark romance had me hooked from the start. I loved getting to know these characters and following their journey through grief, trauma, and the emotional scars that shaped who they are. It’s a powerful story of strength and resilience, of breaking down walls and learning to both give and receive love again.
Axton? This mannnnnn. The lengths he went to just to show Ash she was safe and cherished, he was ready to give her the world! The ending felt like the perfect conclusion for where their relationship stood, wrapping things up in a way that felt both satisfying and true to their growth.
I’m definitely hoping we get more of Jace and Cass in the future!
This book took me a while to read - not because it wasn’t good, but because life simply got in the way. Still, Axton and Ashleigh stayed with me for days. I kept thinking about what would happen next. And yes, Mark lingered in my mind too… I’ll come back to that little piece of shit later.
The story mainly follows Ashleigh (at least that’s how I saw it). Even in Axton’s scenes, the focus remains on her - on her past, her future, her strength, and her journey toward accepting that she is, in every sense, a survivor. A survivor of what? Domestic abuse, sexual assault from multiple men, being drugged, and even an attempted murder. As I mentioned - and will do in the future - I know personally how domestic and sexual abuse can shape someone’s personality, their strength, and their will to survive. I know what it feels like when a police officer tells you, “Unfortunately, ma’am, we can’t do anything; the investigation hit a dead end because it was reported too late.” (Six months late in one of my loved one’s cases - and never in mine.)
I often say I have no triggers, and that’s true. I also stand firmly beside every author who brings CSA/SA/DA into focus in their work. Many victims remain silent for many reasons, and I don’t blame any of them. I did too. But now, as an adult, I see what I might have done differently back then.
Axton is the perfect person for Ashleigh to reignite her inner beast - to help her realize that she can and will live, and that she won’t let Mark win. He already stole three years of her life, and that’s more than enough. I loved that Axton was masculine enough, and secure enough in that masculinity, to hand control over to Ashleigh. Even when he was acting submissive, you could feel and see that he is a MAN. (Dear Alana - I don’t know where you got your inspiration, but asking for a friend… does he have a younger brother, maybe?)
Usually, I hate over-explained scenes - conversations, sex scenes, or endless inner monologues about the feelings. Show me, tell me, but don’t drag it out! BUT (a big but), in this book it didn’t feel overdone. In Axton’s case, it felt like security - a safety net.
When Ashleigh went missing, my first thought was, “F**k, it’s Mark. He’s done something to her.” I’ll let you find out what happened - no spoilers here. Around 70% into the book, with about 100 pages left, I started getting that reader instinct… something felt off. “Everything’s fine, no one’s dead or seriously hurt, things are calm - so WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?”
Now, about Mark. I actually messaged Alana on Instagram to say I really hoped he would suffer badly. Her reply? A single side-smile emoji. (Thanks, Alana - that did not help calm my curiosity!)
So why 4 stars and not 5? Simple, I wanted every single detail about Mark’s fate. I wanted to read it with a devilish grin, soaking up every dark, heavy, satisfying moment, I wanted it be pitch black. Unfortunately, that part was a bit of a closed-door scene.
Final thoughts: This is a really good book - I’d call it a light dark romance, maybe more grey than black. It’s a standalone, but honestly, I could totally read a book about Jace (😉). I also loved that it’s set in the UK - as a UK reader myself, that made it feel even more real.
Emotional, Steamy, and Unputdownable! Ruin Me by Alana Lawler is everything I love in a romance—intense chemistry, emotional depth, and characters you can’t stop thinking about. Lawler’s fluid and captivating writing style truly brings her characters to life. Axton’s quiet strength and integrity made him unforgettable, and the slow-burning connection with the mysterious woman was beautifully written.
I felt every emotion—the longing, the hesitation, the spark of hope—all set within a unique backdrop that added a rich, sultry atmosphere. The chemistry between the characters is electric, but what lingers is the quiet vulnerability and the question at the heart of it all: will she let him in?
This book had me hooked from the start. Highly recommend it for fans of deep, respectful romance with a sizzling edge!
Thank you for letting me be a beta reader—can’t wait for the next one!
Firstly, I'd like to thank Alana for allowing me to be an ARC reader of her second novel! I feel so privileged to be a part of her authoring journey.
The story of Ash and Axton is powerful and one a woman cannot miss out on reading, and one a man could definitely learn a thing or two from! Axton helps to reignite the flame in Ash that she had forgotten existed following trauma. There is nothing more sexy than a man conceding his power to a woman, for them to feel the power that they behold.
I could not put this book down!!!! Each chapter had me wanting more, and the kink is *chefs kiss*. This book is an absolute credit to Alana, and has me clutching at my seat for the second installment. Could not recommend Ruin Me more!
Thank you Alana for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read this!
This book was fast paced, dark and steamy and was all about healing and overcoming.
What does this book have? Attractive brothers that own and run a hotel. That every month hold some adult events and what happens when one of the brothers, Axton, is enchanted by a woman in the garden? Her pursues her for a one night stand.
When he’s had a taste, he just wants more. Unlike him.
The FMC Ashleigh is fierce and strong with a lot of demons in her past. She’s worked on rediscovering herself after an absolutely horrific night.
Axton isn’t there to fix her or save her, he’s there to make sure she’s the strong Warrior he knows she is.
The spice is steamy, the story is gripping. I couldn’t stop reading it!
This book had me hooked right from the start. The fast-paced flow really worked for me, and the plot was just as compelling. What stood out the most was the complexity of the characters—Ash and Axton have easily become my favorites.
The story was gripping, from the high-stakes moments to the spicy scenes that were absolute perfection. Alana did an incredible job with this one, and I couldn’t ask for more. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for something punchy, fast-paced, and filled with romance that lingers in your thoughts long after you’ve finished. You’re going to love it! 🖤🖤🖤
Truly a dark romance that includes trauma, healing, and intense love. Ashleigh is a raw, complex heroine whose growth felt so authentic. And Axton? Unhinged, obsessive, and absolutely everything the way he protects and empowers her had me obsessed. This book is fast-paced, emotional, and full of high stakes. If you're into morally gray love interests, fierce loyalty, and stories that explore deep emotional wounds with care, Ruin Me is a must-read!!
***Pleaseeeee check trigger warnings ahead of time***
I absolutely loved it! One of my all-time favourites. I love how Axton lets Ashleigh take control and power which is exactly what she needed to feel safe. I have so many quotes from this book that really stuck out to me and I loved. I love how Ash finally gets revenge and how willing Axton is to help and make sure it happens. He made her finally feel safe and got her to trust someone when she thought she would never find that.
This book had me hooked from the beginning! Ruin Me is a fast paced emotional, steamy read. I enjoyed this book so much the chemistry and love between the characters was absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend you read this book!
Wow. This dark romance was a wild ride. Ashleigh the FMC is fighting her inner demons from a past trauma when she meets Axton the sexy biker MMC. She has been locked in her own world for so long and meeting him changes everything. He walks beside her as she faces her past. He’s not there to save her but to give her the confidence to realize the true warrior she is and that she has control over her own destiny. It was amazing to follow her as she rose from the ashes and became fierce and in control of her life and stopped living in fear.
Highly recommend this book. I’m also hoping for another book as I would love to have more of Jace and Cass as well. Thank you Alana for the opportunity to ARC read this book.
Ashleigh & Axton - A Second Chance at Life Romance I absolutely adore this couple! Not only a very dynamic relationship, but the characters have such complex depth that you can feel their pain and insecurity. This unconventional development of a situationship into something real and permanent is so beautiful and wholesome. This is dark and sweet and complicated, but thén light and passionately wrecking and straightforward at the same time. Very well written and an absolute must read.
