An alternate cover edition can be found here and here.
Jenna Morgan is just like any normal teenager. That is until she turns seventeen and in a matter of a week Jenna is kidnapped, meets a mysterious young man named Alex and learns the shocking truth about her true heritage. Which is why both demons and angels are hunting her. Just when she comes to accept her true identity the unthinkable happens leaving Jenna devastated. She soon meets Dylan, a small town home boy who quickly heals her heart. But when his life is threatened by the same monsters who had already tore her world apart will Jenna be able to save him...or will she die trying?
As a child, Pamela was often found hidden away with a book in hand. Thanks to her grade school teacher, who loved her books and encouraged her to ‘Keep on writing’, she published her first book Revelations in 2014. These days you can find her at home in Little Falls N.Y, with her kids and dog. Most nights, except when her favorite TV show Supernatural is on, you can find her in her office bringing her characters to life. (And yes, sometimes arguing with them along the way.)
I was gifted a copy of 'Revelations' by Pamela Daniell, in exchange for an honest review.
This is one hell of a book, I was transfixed to the story from the start to the very end. Our lead character Jenna, goes on a rather life changing journey, lets not forget the fight between heaven & hell for her soul. I especially loved the prequel, where you got to understand the back story that's hidden from Jenna until she turns 17. Then she is kidnapped, rescued, learns about her heritage, lied to, suffers a heart wrenching lose... you would think she has no love left to give?? I'm not going to ruin this book for you, so I'll stop there.
I will say that the journey for Jenna, made her character very likeable, you felt her lose, pain, anguise, anger & love along with her. The book was thoughtfully put together, making it easy to understand what was going on, without giving away all the major details before they occured. I especially loved the paranormal content within the book & the exploration of teenagers constant struggle with right & wrong. I'm hoping there is more to this series & will keep an eye out for more from Pamela Daniell in the future.
Imagine what it is like to discover that your dad was an angel who came down from heaven and fell in love with your mom. Angels aren’t meant to do that and dad ended up in a heavenly prison. Revelations has all the makings of a teenage fantasy romance but goes much further than that. Pamela Daniell has put a lot of thought into her writing and her latest novel can be read at more than one level. There is something in it for all ages. The pace is fast. I hesitate to use the term “page turner” but that’s what I found myself doing. Angels and half-angels use their supernatural powers to combat the forces of evil. The outcome is never predictable. Events don’t happen at random. There is a tight logic to what is going on. Demons use the cunning of top undercover agents. Angels have to see through their wicked schemes. Revelations has the elements of a mystery thriller. You can never be sure of the outcome until you reach the end.
What an enjoyable read! From the storyline to the characters, I was sucked into another world where angels and demons exist. The characters were well written, especially Jenna. Usually teens come across bratty or annoying but the author did a great job at making her a pretty good kid. There are some feels moments where I teared up and others where I cracked a smile. I can’t wait to read the next book! This is fast becoming a favorite series! I give this 5 stars.
With them or against them, whichever you choose the other side is going to kill you. You can't choose to be ''something in the middle'' because then both sides want you buried six-feet-under.
View original review over at http://www.chantolaspinall.com Who knew that turning seventeen could turn your world upside down? Certainly not Jenna but she is about to learn the truth. This is more than discovering who she is. She will uncover what she is. Her heritage can no longer be hidden. Her very survival depends on her knowing the truth. The whole truth! Jenna and Erin Morgan, the daughter and mother duo seemed to be like any normal single parent household – on the surface that is. Looks can be deceiving. And boy was I deceived. Jenna has been having this reoccurring dream. She is on the beach, sand in her toes. Pretty relaxing scenery, but she isn’t there for the sun, sand and sea. The dream continues to offer her two boys. Their faces never clear. One boy full of mystery. Dark and adventurous. The other, radiated peace and a sense of calm. They always remained at a distance with out-stretched hands. An indication for her to choose a boy. A path. Jenna shrugs it off. After all it was only a dream. It meant nothing. Right? It takes a mysterious man buying Jenna a crystal angel pendant at a flea market, to allow her mother to realize that they weren’t safe. They had been found. It was time to move. Their move ended in a car crash, having been ran off the road by two men. Jenna was captured and placed in a facility for testing. The thing is, Jenna is no normal human. She isn’t even human. No sir. She is what they’d call a Nephilim. The offspring of an angel father and a human mother. Being a hybrid she has crazy powers and abilities. They manifest at seventeen but she has not a clue. Anyway at the facility she meets a kind soul who is determined to help her. His name, Alex. He is just like her, having a human mom and an angel father. They escaped and are reunited with her mother. He teaches her to use her abilities. But even in hiding they just aren’t hidden enough. Tragedy strikes and leaves Jenna raw. It leaves her vulnerable. She meets another boy, Dylan. A hometown charm. His care and love manages to soothe her breaking heart. In the end Jenna’s dream will manifest and become an ugly reality. She must choose a boy. Each will take her down a different path. Heaven or Hell. The decision is hers. No one can interfere. No one can choose for her. See if good or evil prevails in Revelations. Don’t miss out on the epic adventure, the OMGs and the I-didn’t-see-that-coming moments. Happy reading! -Chantol Aspinall
This is such a great YA reader. I love the supernatural books and when they are written right, you can't go wrong. This book was written perfectly. Everything that you are looking for in a book was here. You wanted that mystery, the thrill of finding out that you were so wrong at the beginning, and the young romance that blooms to make the story that much more interesting. There was so much intensity in the book, so much loss, you see so much love, you see how hard is to choose right and wrong. It keeps you on your toes all the way through the book. The characters were perfect. You see the struggles within each of the characters in this book. How do you choose? How do you choose what you think is the right thing, when it could be the worst thing that could happen to you? Are you able to recover from losses that would devastate the best of people? Everything in this book screams at you and for that I am so grateful I got to read it.
Jenna was born different. Her mother knew and needed to keep her safe. Her mom just found out they were discovered and now they have to go on the run. Only problem is, Jenna doesn't know that she is who she is. After having to move immediately and not knowing why Jenna is confused. Then the accident happens and she finds herself in the hospital. I don't want to get into the whole story, but I what I want to tell you, remember Jenna is a teenager. A teenager that now has abilities that she never knew she had and she has to learn how to control them. There are people out there that want her to use them for evil and then there are the ones that want her to use it for good. She needs to decide. Jenna was great. I loved that she was a teenager, a strong one, so she will need that strength for what she needs to deal with. I don't want to get into the other characters because you as the reader has to decide who you are going to trust. Who is deceiving her and who wants her for the right reasons.
I can't wait to dive into the the next book of this series. Remember this is a series and you must read this book first. Great beginning to what I can only imagine will be an awesome series.
I was sent this book from the author for an honest review. This book is a DNF for many reasons.
My biggest problem with this book is how obvious everything is and not to mention the stereotypes. The female characters are whiny and bitchy, often portrayed as weak. While the guys are all strong, knows everything, and somehow better than everyone else. This book made me very frustrated at the lack of strong female characters and POC's.
Another thing, along the lines of stereotypes, was the fall for a guy in one day thing. It was more than one day- definitely less than half a week, that's for sure. As a female, and I know other girl's feel the same about this, IT'S NOT A THING THAT GIRLS GO AROUND LIKING EVERY GUY THEY MEET. It's annoying and degrading. Not something I want to read in a book/be promoted by a book. And the possibility of a love triangle. As I didn't finish the book, I can't say whether there was one or not, but I had a feeling there was going to be one. A YA troupe that everyone wants gone is love triangles. Especially in situations where it's one girl and two guys, it's a huge put down to the large female audience and basically tells girls they have to like every guy they meet.
The last thing I'd like to point out was the lack of character voice diversity. Every young teenage girl had the same language and mannerisms. Every guy spoke the same. Every adult/"motherly figure" ALL SPOKE THE SAME. (One thing that I really hated was her mum calling her "honey", and the other lady she meets later on calling her the exact same thing. I've never met anyone who uses the term honey okay). Eventually all the characters blurred together, and I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters.
I had many rants on social media about these things I've just stated, where loads of people have agreed with what I say, so I know I'm not alone on these opinions.
Overall, I really liked the ideas of this book. If the characters were written better and the overall story told in a better way, this book would have been more enjoyable (and I probably would've finished it).
Okay so like i said in my last post i was contacted on Goodreads about giving a review of a couple of books and i started Revelations By Pamela Daniell. First off, it took me longer than i would have liked to finish this but it wasnt becasue of the book itself. I have had a busy week and ya know life unfortunatly gets in the way of reading... Damn adulthood!
I honestly really did like this book and i think it is because it reminds me of a mix between mortal instruments and percy Jackson with a splash of supernatural in the mix. You have the hunters and the hunted, the nephillum and not. When you pick up this book and you start it you really dont want to put it down. It starts with a short chapter that kicks the whole story off in what feels like a proper description of how relationships between heaven and earth would be! Now if you are a huge fan of Cassanda Clares writting i would suggest this book because it gives you a different take of angels and demons without completely destroying all faith in writers! Lol The book itself is not long at all! Containing a total of 236 pages, it is a very quick read but at the same time you feel like it lasted longer only because you want it to! I look forward to reading a ton more from Pamela and i encorage you to do the same! You will fall in LOVE with Jenna! (The heroin) Below are the synopsis and amazon buying page as always! **Synopsis:** Jenna Morgan is just like any normal teenager. That is until she turns seventeen. In a matter of a week Jenna is kidnapped, meets a mysterious young man named, Alex and learns the shocking truth about her true heritage, which is the reason both demons and the angels are hunting her.
Just when she comes to accept her new identity the unthinkable happens leaving Jenna devastated. She soon meets Dylan, a small town homeboy who quickly heals her heart. But when his life is threatened by the same monsters who had already torn her world apart will Jenna be able to save him in time…or will she die trying?
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review Jenny’s life has been somewhat average until now. When she turns seventeen, circumstances lead her to learn that she’s Nephilim, and her choices will determine the outcome of a divine war between heaven and hell. The first thing I noticed about Revelations is how good the storyline is. I found it to be interesting, but not in an overdone fashion; it was pretty straightforward. I appreciate the fact that the story was written from Jenny’s perspective, which gave me some insight to her character. However, I can’t say that the whole reading process went as smoothly as I was hoping it would. Firstly, I noticed that the characters’ emotions weren’t expressed well enough to make an impact on me. They all spoke and acted like they were reading from a script, and were following cues from some unseen director. The one emotion the characters “successfully” expressed was anger, and that’s mostly because there were a few shouty capitals and exclamation marks involved. Moving on to Jenny herself, I found her to be quite dense. I’m aware of the likelihood that the author intentionally made her oblivious to what was happening under her nose, but I just couldn’t bring myself to tolerate it. In the beginning, Jenny did not seem to be interested much in her situation; she wanted to continue living in blissful ignorance. I’d like to think that if I just discovered I am not completely human, my preferred genre would change from mystery fiction to something related to demons and angels. She does grow as the story progresses and even though her overly trusting tendencies are what landed her in trouble, they turned to be a necessary part of the story. There is romance, and it plays an important part in the story, but it doesn’t feel like it’s the focal point (which is always refreshing). In all, I think Revelations has a lot going for it plot-wise (which makes me curious about the rest of Jenna's story). I just wish the characters came across as more realistic.
***THIS REVIEW WILL BE OF THE SERIES AND NOT THE INDIVIDUAL BOOKS***
The start of the series will catch you by storm! Not only was I transfixed from start to finish, I was left wanting more!!
Jenna is the main character and she goes through some trials in her young life. Heaven and Hell is fighting for her soul. There are not many books that give you a prequel.Usually, it's scattered throughout the story, I can appreciate being prepared!
The characters in this series are very real. You can feel Jenna's loss, pain, anger, sadness, fear, and love throughout the first book. I won't put any spoilers.
As Jenna's character progresses, the story gains more action and adventure as Jenna is brought into herself. There is no damsel in distress in this series! I love a strong heroin as long as she stays real and Pamela did an excellent job of that.
Pamela created a world that is real. Everything going on could be happening right now and we don't even know it...(hint, hint :))
I like Dylan's character. I like the unique relationship between Dylan and Jenna. I think it could grow into something big! There are some great surprises to this book that will leave you reeling.
These book are solid 4 1/2 stars. They will keep you interested from start to finish. You won't be able to put the books down once you start.
Jenna Morgan is just a normal teenage girl until she wasn't. When she turns 17, her life takes a drastic turn. Within a week, she's kidnapped, meets the mysterious Alex, and learns about her true heritage, which has angels and demons desperate to find her. She's accepted the truth about herself, when tragedy strikes, leaving her devastated. But, unfortunately, she and Alex must go on the run in the middle of the night, landing in a new place. She meets Dylan, who heals her heart, and Jenna starts to fall for him. But when the same dangerous monsters locate her, will she be able to keep Dylan safe?
It's been a while since I read books like this, and I was reminded how much I love them with Revelations. The character development is spot on, and the realistic teenage emotions are great. The colorful cast of secondaries are fantastic as well. Pamela Daniell's talented writing style swept me up into her world, to where I was fully ready to battle angels and demons. The twists and turns kept my heart pounding cover to cover, and I love that this story is original from others of this genre. Revelations has only whetted my appetite, and I cannot wait to read more of this brilliant series. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I was given a copy of this book for and honest review.
Revelations is a fun YA novel that keeps you turning the pages. Pamela Daniell creates her own unique spin on Angels and Demons that really freshens up the genre. Her characters of Jenna, Alex and Dylan are well developed and the twists and turns will keep you intrigued. Although there is a small romance theme I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the main focus of the story. Whilst I love romance, every now and then it is nice to read a YA novel where this is not the dominant theme. Instead, the exploration of good and evil (as you would expect from Angels and Demons) takes centre stage. Watching Jenna find her true identity and come to terms with and develop her abilities takes centre stage, as does the choices she has to make on her journey. The author explores the weakness of human nature, Jenna's inherent need to do good and the strays from that path that she takes at moments of weakness. Although this book is obviously the first in a set/series you do get a satisfying conclusion at the end of book one while being left eagerly waiting for more.
Jenna just turned 17 and was stuck in bed for a week instead of getting to have any fun suddenly when she feels better though things for her go terribly wrong and she and her mom end up on the run and that is when she finds the truth out about herself. Things get crazier and crazier as she learns to control her abilities and the only one she can trust besides her mom is Alex. Just as she feels she is finally getting a group on her new life devastation happens and her world is turned upside down once again. With so much happening at once can she trust in others while also trusting in herself.
Jenna is a strong female lead and my kinda girl. She is take charge when she needs to be, knows when to step back and let others do the planning and didn't let anyone step all over her.
Something crazy happens in her life and she accepts it and tries to find the best way of dealing with it and moves on. She trusts her instincts and was pretty mature for a 17 year old girl.
The world was well created as were the characters making it easy to feel like you were right there with them. Great start to a series and I'm excited to see more!
Jenna lived a normal life until her 17th birthday. She went with her mom to a flee market and was approached by a man and given angel pendant. Her mom freaks because she knows they have been found. She informs Jenna that they will be moving but not given a reason why except that she will explain once they are somewhere safe. When they leave there is an car accident and she is kidnapped. When she wakes up is in some type of hospital that does testing to find out what kind of powers she possess. Her mom sends Alex to break her out. He will teach her about her heritage and how to control her powers. Jenna must learn everything she can to protect herself from those trying to harm her and will have a tough battle ahead in the war of God vs Lucifer.
I enjoyed reading this story. I felt for Jenna in this story. She went through so much in a short time but always believed in love and goodness. I thought it was brilliant how her reoccuring dream helped to guide her on her journey. The end you knew which boy was good and which was evil.
I was given a copy of this book for a honest review. Revelations is a great young adult novel. Jenna mother is human and her father is an angel. Most of the children of this type of mating are males, but as a female nephilim she is rare. Her mother has spent her live keeping Jenna hidden, but as she begins her senior year they are found and have to find a new place to live. Her mother meets a boy, Alex that offers to help train Jenna. Jenna is finally told the truth by her mother. Jenna’s abilities far exceed Alex’s abilities. On her journey she has to deal with loss, love and betrayal. It is a journey that will pull you in as you go along for the ride. This is a great, fast read. I enthusiastically recommend this book as a great read.
This is the fist book I've read by Pamela Daniell and it definitely won't be the last. From the first page right up until the end I was hooked. This is a quick read consisting of just over 200 pages, although it seems shorter as I was enjoying it so much! I was on tenterhooks reading this, everything that I thought would happen at the beginning didn't, and everything that happened I was shocked! I don't want to give anything away as don't want to ruin the suspense for anyone but all I will say is that you NEED to read this! All the characters in this book are brilliantly written, I felt them coming alive at every page.. I cannot wait to read more of this series, it's definitely becoming one of my favourites! #2OCCAB
Revelations by Daniell - my honest review. There are shades of Revelations in the Bible with angels and demons. Jenna is the main protagonist and it's her YA story of escaping the baddies while falling in love. Her mother is taken from her and she and a boy called Alex leave a long way away to stay with her mother's best friend. It's a typical story of teen love and rebellion. And hovering around Jenna is someone who wants her to be a demon. This revelation took awhile in being manifested. Why did God allow her Mum to die? Will Jenna's boyfriend declare his love for her? And will he be safe? Some proofreading would have made this a 5 star.
I really enjoyed this NA/YA fantasy about Angels /demons and nephilims. The book is written in 3rd person mainly from Jenna's POV but occasionally from other characters meaning often you can see the inevitable that the main character can't , leading to you screaming at the book "NOOO DONT GO IN THERE, don't trust him" like its a cliche horror flick, but there is nothing cliche about this book. The storyline fits well with the genre and works well as a YA book the characters are well developed and 3 dimensional. The resolution happened a little too quickly in my opinion based on the flow of the the other books but the ending was satisfying enough and leaves it open for a sequel
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in Pam Daniell's series and now wait with baited breath for the second. The characters and plot were well developed. The author had me hooked by the end of the first chapter. The battle between good and evil and who would turn out to be the bad guy kept me turning the pages. The romance was just enough in this YA novel. I wouldn't usually read this genre, but I was given a copy for an honest review and I wasn't disappointed. I'd recommend Revelations to lovers of the genre or anyone wanting a refreshingly different and easy read.
I really enjoyed this book. Jenna has such a normal life, until a man shows up. Her life is thrown into chaos, Secrets were held from her, people are out to get her, and she keeps losing those close to her. Shes training to become someone who can defend those she loves, but what if one of the trusted few is actually the one out to get her?
When you must choose good or evil, imagine your choice being the one that could save or damn so many?
Grab this book, you will be waiting till the next one comes.
Loved this book from start to finish . Jenna gets what she thinks is flu when she turns 17 , next thing shes being kidnapped , finds out she a nephiim & both angels & demons want her just not for the same reasons . Jenna ends up with a life filled with pain & not knowing who to trust , she makes a deal that could have repercussions later but if she didn,t make it she would lose someone else she loved . Pamela Daniell has great characters you instantly feel connected to , can't wait for the next in this series
This maybe a young adults book but it will be enjoyed by both young and old especially if you enjoy reading about Angels and Demons. I loved it from start to finish and didn't want to put it down. Jenna is your typical teenager, until she turns 17. She goes to a flea market with her mum when a guy hands her a pendant of an angel, which clearly has her mum spooked and on the way home she is kidnapped, which leads her to learn about her heritage. I won't tell you anymore as I hate reviewers that give away too much of the story
And adventure soul finding story about a girl named Jenna who is in the middle of an epic battle. God vs Lucifer. They say the child with the most gifted powers will side with one army and that army will win. Why does everyone want to control her? Why are these people are after her? Can't she just live her life with her mom and call it a day... Well her day is just going to get worse.
Good book Good first book of the series. I don't normally read YA books but I can't resist books with angels. I enjoyed it. The author created strong, well thought out characters within a vividly descriptive world. The story moves at a good steady pace and leaves you eager to move on to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this series.....Gifted ARC copy....L.
Excellent story of angels vs demons. I enjoyed how Pamela introduced the interactions of the main characters. It wasn't what I expected and I can't wait to see if there is a sequel to the story. I enjoyed the fact that it's not like any other magical, supernatural stories. Keeps you guessing until the end .
I just finished this book! My heart was pounding and I forgot all about dinner, I had to see what was going to happen with Jenna next! This is a must read book! I am excited to read the next in the series Defiance soon!
Again need a 1/2 star. This would be a 4.5 from me. I LOVED this book. I will definitely be following this author from now on. This is (can be) a standalone. Although if you are like me you wont want to stop there. I cannot wait to start the next one. The biggest reason this is not a 5 was I felt Jenna to be rather naive and not the brightest. She is supposed to be a 17 year girl, and to m acts more like 13 ish. Aside from this minor issue the rest was awesome. This story does have a religious undertones. As it deals with God, Angels, Lucifer, and demons. Absolutely one of the better books Ive read so far this year. This is a YA and appropriately so, but definitely can hold the attention of any age.
